Fitness How Do We Dispell the "Pink Dumbell Theory"? Oct 01 2009
14:07 (UTC)

I just picked up some weights at a Play it Again Sports last night and they had weights from 1lb to 100+.  Now what would I seriously do with 1lb dumbells?  Finger curls?

I picked up the 6lb set since I'm a beginner and that seems to be a good starting point.  What did you guys start with?  I hope to soon be well on my way to joining some of you in the heavy lifting category.

I don't cook my oatmeal.  I mix equal parts old fashioned oats, milk and non fat yogurt in a bowl and leave to soak overnight in the fridge.  The oats are still nice and chewy.

I make mine the night before...and it involves no cooking.  I mix 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup 1% milk and 1/2 cup lowfat plain yogurt.  Mix in a bowl or to go container and leave in fridge overnight.  By the morning it's ready to eat.  Add any toppings you like on yours (I enjoy dried strawberries, walnuts and some brown sugar).

I just buy the angel food cake.  You could make your own and they sell mixes but as I understand it this particular cake can be a bit trickier than standard cakes.

How about angel food cake? ~140 calories a slice.  I like mine with fresh strawberries.

Foods McDonalds 'Seared chicken mini snack wrap' Jun 02 2009

Original Post by helloelloello:

I agree with the person who worked at McDonald's. I was a manager of  3 differebt Mcdonald's over a period of 3 years and things usually aren't done by the book, so the nutritional content of the products vary GREATLY. It is true that all mcdonald's have teenagers working in them and most absolutely hate to be there and want to do as little work as possible. The grills do not get cleaned regularly, there is huge carbon build up and these fake 'seared' products end up cooking in beef/bacon grease on the grill. Also on the prep benches there is a lot of grease from spilt burger patties andf the snack wraps end up getting placed ontop of this. Not to mention all the grease that ends up in the tubs of lettuce because at mcdonald's you wear the same gloves to touch cooked sloppy greasy meat & salads

:)

Before we get on a rant about how all McDonalds are evil.....all stores vary.  The one I worked at for 3 years was always in pristine condition.  The grills were cleaned between all uses, if you dropped something on the prep table you cleaned it up before you went on, and there were tongs for the meat.

Now I understand stores are different because the Wendy's I worked at next needed to be reported to the health department.  Rotten tomatoes anyone?

-greek yogurt

Disliked:

-cottage cheese (I want to like but just can't seem to eat it)

-Kashi Go Lean Crunch (too hard, very chewing intensive)

Need to try:

-Quinoa

OMG LOL.  The visual of that is just fantastic.

This has been a great thread.  Thanks for starting it and asking what so many others have always wanted to.

Ok, my weigh in today was at 209.6.  That makes me +1 but I also haven't been able to log for 3 weeks or so and it's TTOTM so I don't feel too terribly disappointed.  It was this time last year that I joined CC and lost 25 pounds in about 3-4 months, maybe I can do it again.  Here's hoping.

Corey, I wouldn't be too concerned (unless it doesn't start at all) mine was also a bit late starting.

Hi Bethie,

I've lost 25 of the 100 pounds that I want to lose.  Don't let the numbers scare you and don't expect to lose it overnight (or even in 3 months).  I think a reasonable goal is 1 year but remember that even if it seems long that you'll be looking better all the time.

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't been around.  I was laid off at the beginning of April and then my computer died.  I've been called back to work now and parts should be arriving any day now for my computer so hopefully I'll be able to post again.

We have very simliar goals.  I'm 5'2" and weighed 235 pounds last May.  I lost 25 pounds by July/August by eating 1500 calories a day.  I took a few walks but mostly the loss was from just eating less.  I also had a cheat day once a week where I could eat up to maintenance (around 1800-2000 calories).  This kept me from feeling like I was deprived.

I ran into some rough patched in life so the weight loss didnt' continue but the important part - I didn't gain it back because of what I've learned so far here.  I have restarted my weight loss mindset and hope to work my way down to around 135.

You can do it.

It's that time of the month and I'm at 209 currently.  I haven't been counting like I should so I'm not going to see the scale moving like I want it to.  I've got to stop letting things get in my way.  I've lost 25 pounds...I know I can keep doing this.

I did really well when I first started here last May.  I lost nearly 30 pounds by August.  In September my cat started to go into kidney failure (at nearly 20 years of so I'd known him almost all of my life).  I focused more on making him comfortable than on my weight loss (which I don't regret) and even after losing him in November I haven't been able to get back into the groove.

Currently my husband and I are about to both be unemployed to due mass layoffs here.  I'll have time to focus on my eating patterns and exercising but I'll also be facing a drastically reduced budget and more stress.

Wish me luck.

I'm going to ask the other obvious question here.....are you sexually active?

If you are: you may want to take a pregnancy test to be safe (whether you were careful or not).

If you are not: then go with the nutritional advice above for now.

I'm having trouble locating the pancake mix in the store.  In what section are they keeping this in usually?  Pancake mixes, baking mixes, other? I couldn't find it under either pancake or baking.

Foods fruit allergy and yogurt Jan 13 2009
17:52 (UTC)

My roommate in college was allergic to almost everything under the sun...including raw fruits and vegetables.  She also lamented that she missed eating fresh strawberries, but her allergic reactions were quite bad, she went into cardiac arrest when they gave her the scratch test.

My husband had the allergy shots and he said he isn't bothered by them (allergies) now like he was as a kid.
