Fitness How do you do HIIT on the Elliptical? Nov 08 2009

Hey so i think this is HIIT on the elliptical but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken!

I do about 20 mins regular elliptical then start doing intervals of 30secs as fast as I can  at level 14 - then recover 1min level 3ish and repeat.  I try to keep this going for about 15mins and listen to my body if I need to extend the recovery time I do.

I find if the resistance is too low you cant go as fast as it feels out of control and also when its up highish you have to work your arms too so everything gets tiered.

I like the plan above of working the intensity time up and recovery time down, think i will try 20/40 next time so thanks vyperman7.

Can you do resistance training for lower body on the elliptical? Do you just crank up the resistance and go slow?!?

Oh this happens to me too so it has been helpful reading this thread! Not to mention comforting knowing its not just me!

The thing is people always say its common with long distance runners, but I dont even do that much of a distance and systematically I need the loo after 2k!

My only solution so far is to run the 2k near home go to the loo then continue with the actual run! It is just frustrating that it interupts. Afterwards I can run on no problems.

Personally I think its the extra muscle work in the stomach area, the deep muscles not the surface muscle, that causes everything to move through quickly!

Everyone around me knows my addiction to my hot chocolate!

I use Options with just water and in the morning, I add a sprinkle of coffee and a tablespoon of oats.  The oats thicken it and become part of my breakfast as well!

In the evening if im hungry I will put in a tablespoon of oats and small amount of chopped nuts, it turns into a warming drink and snack though does up the calories.

I like the cayenne pepper idea, think i will try that, boost the metabolism and all.

The Options chocolate is full of fake stuff though which does bug me and I have tried to find alternatives but no luck yet! The Skinny cow brand isnt bad.

Thank you for all the wisdom.  Im going to take it slower for a start and start slowly and gently outside to try and get my joint adjusted.

Also will try and get someone pro to check my shoes and make sure they are fitting/supporting my feet well enough.

Thank you for the posture information i have been looking into this and i think when starting slow i need to think about my posture so this can be correct from the start!

Thank you all

Ooo this is a good thread, maybe if i put this down publicly it will help me work harder to stick to it...maybe!

  • yoga salute to sun every morning
  • healthy spaced out small meals and snacks
  • 20 mins weights every other day
  • some form of gym/exercise after work
  • NO evening nibbling

I think my focus needs to be my health and fitness and the rest of november is going to be good.

I hope everyones month is rewarding, you can achive alot when you put your mind to it.

I am another fat free/low fat fan, its a good source of protien with low fat and calorie content.  I am a sweet tooth and usually mix it with a bit of low sugar raspberry jam to eat straight or put on toast.  It reminds me of rice pudding!

Fitness Morning Yoga Jul 21 2008

A common routine for rising in the morning and before bed at night is 'sun salutation which incorporates a low lunge, plank, upward and downward facing dog and a back bend all in flow with the breath.

I do something called 'the bending palm tree' (not sure if thats a technical term!) before to loosen my body which is just where you take your arms up then do a slight back bend, from this sweep forward into a forward bend and sweep your arms slightly back then sweep back to the top and repeat.  I think the idea is your a flexi tree!  Really helps your hamstrings before downward dog though.

I also enjoy doing shoulder stands and plough variations in the morning but generally sun salutation with variations such as half moon pose after donward dog or side plank pose before returning to plank an then upward dog.

the website yoga journal is very helpful for routine ideas and information.  Enjoy any new ideas your find.

ilovechai -

I completely know what you mean, i did that this evening and feel rubbish and worthless and crap now!

Basically i had free tickets to a high quality resturant food tasting event and went in on my way home from work.  There were loads of free samples of pizza, curry, chocolate brownie, chocolate coated flapjacks, cereal bars, fudge, the drink baileys and cheese and bread - all this lovely rich and well made food.

I completely went crazy and did circuits sampling everything MULTIPLE times, i really cant believe how much i ate its was ridiculous - no control at all it was like some white noise glaze over eat mess!!

Anyway i felt ill but wasnt sick still not sure if im glad or not but im going to try and ome to terms with this now.  oh dear ashamed! But yeh, your not alone!!
