while having a big flap of skin there is not exactly attractive, would you prefer a flap of skin or a bulge of fat? I think the flap of skin sounds better (and healthier). Plus, if its that awful, you can get the skin removed surgically (obviously its not ideal, but its not the end of the world). Continue with your weight loss, congratulations on what you have accomplished, and good luck in the future! |

| The Lounge | Has anyone ever volunteered in Africa? | Aug 03 2008 05:41 (UTC) |

Yes! I volunteered in a township in Cape Town, South Africa for a month in 2006. It was the best experience ever! I would definitely look into some programs in South Africa. Cape Town is insanely rich in history and culture, and Johannesburg is a TON of fun! |

| Foods | The Yoga of Eating: Discuss | Aug 01 2008 02:10 (UTC) |
|
as a more i guess cynical, keeping it real type of person myself, i think it is unfortunate that this article is written under a somewhat flowery "yoga" point of view. That is not to knock yoga or the lifestyle (I'm just starting yoga), but because I actually agree with what is being written and feel like it would be taken more seriously by people if it were written under a different guise. The main point seems to be that we should eat to feed ourselves, that is eat to live, not live to eat. I fully support the idea of eating for nutrition and not eating because of emotions or just plain boredom. That said, this is no groundbreaking article. That we should begin to focus on using food as nourishment and other things to fulfill/punish/love/hate ourselves and other things in our life is one of the oldest (and probably most successful) dieting techniques. Unfortunately, we also must accept that often times people cannot separate food and nourishment from emotions/boredom/etc etc. Many people will continue to fail at dieting (or will just continue to be in lesser health) because this is one of the hardest techniques to implement in one's life, especially after habits have been formed. |

| Weight Loss | Success With Cutting Out Dessert/Sugary Foods? | Jul 30 2008 01:20 (UTC) |
|
I used to adore sweet treats. Then i decided I wanted to lose weight. I cut sugar out of my diet all together. At first it was hard because so much food has sugar, but over time I've realized its so worth it. I am at my lowest weight basically ever and my body looks better. Plus all those empty calories that I used to waste on candy and the like, I now use on high volume foods like veggies that fill me up faster. I'm basically never hungry. As for the cravings, I actually do get them once in awhile, but I just look at myself in the mirror and say I would rather look like this than like I used to. I'm always open to getting some really dark chocolate when I get a craving, but in the end I never end up giving in. I don't know why, probably just building habit...
Good Luck and tell us how it goes! |

hey candyapple, First of all, and most importantly, congratulations! Second, I think it is important to note that you cannot by any means control the actions of other people. So, while it would just be annoying to tell you to ignore it (because I know I would not be able to), I am going to remind you that you lost the weight for yourself. You've done something great for your body and your health, and in the end that is all that matters. Keep up all the good work! Also, these people with not so delightful reactions make the people with encouraging reactions seem that much better! Try and concentrate on the good! |

for pasta: shirataki tofu noodles - they are 20 calories for one serving, 40 calories for a big bag of them. They are soo easy to make and satisfy the pasta craving. Also, I totally agree with La Tortilla Factory tortillas. They are huge and super low cal. The brand FlatOut makes similar products and are also all excellent tortillas and low cal. |

| Weight Loss | very close to your goal weight but it doesn't look like it. | Jul 06 2008 04:04 (UTC) |

Wow! I am right there with you. I am four pounds from my goal weight, but my love handles wouldn't show that. For me, I am not going to change my goal weight. I am not obsessed with a number and I know it does not always reflect an ideal body. Instead, I am going to begin to focus on toning up through more weights. I'm excited to be near my goal weight, and CONGRATS to you too. I hope you are able to focus on perfecting yourself in your mind. I know weights will definitely help! Good luck! |

im probably too late to be of any help, but I love Panera. I would recommend getting half a sandwhich and some soup. I love the mediterranean veggie sandwhich! Otherwise the strawberry poppyseed salad is actually very good! Have fun! |

If you really want the frozen meals, I would suggest Amy's frozen meals. They have them everywhere and they are all vegetarian and most are vegan. Watch out though, because they are not all low cal. Good luck! |

| New Members | new to CC, not new to dieting... :) Question re: grocery list! | Jun 11 2008 17:56 (UTC) |

the best tip I have ever recieved is to shop only (or as much as possible) around the perimeter of the grocery store. That is where all of the fresh produce, meats etc etc are and it means you avoid all of the junk food. That's not so much of a list as it is a guideline, but it helps you pick better foods if you stay out of the junky aisles. Good Luck! |
