The only factor I can really see affecting my period is the amount of exercise I get. Whenever swimteam season starts up, it's gone; whenever I'm taking a break it comes back. It's really kind of silly, in my opinion. It's like I can't be an athlete and still feel like a young woman. |

| Weight Gain | Should I Be Worried? | Jun 02 2008 12:05 (UTC) |

It's good that you're concerned about your health, rather than being in denial about your behavior. In my opinion, you sound like you have a bad body image of yourself - judging from your weight/height, you're already thin. If you're unhappy with certain areas, weight training (crunches, squats, etc.) is always helpful. :) As for being diagnosed... I'm not sure. I went undiagnosed with anorexia for three years, until I finally came to my senses, and now I'm four months into recovery. Trust me, it's worth taking the leap. You'd be surprised at how much happier your life is when you can think about things other than food and exercise (although I do try to be healthy). Anyway, best of luck, and be careful! |

I'm basically built like a boy - no hips or chest. But guys at my school seem to like to touch me a lot, which can be very frustrating and extremely creepy. |

I have a lot of doubts about NutriSystem: a), their food is not nearly as appetizing as it looks on TV (I've know several people using it), b) it's not a permanent diet - as soon as you go off it, you put the weight back on because you go back to your old eating habits, and c) it teaches you that you can eat hamburgers, lasagna, etc. and still be healthy/losing weight. Which is a very bad habit to get into. |

| Weight Loss | When to weigh?? | May 20 2008 11:47 (UTC) |

The morning is usually the best time for me (whenever I do get around to weighing myself), because when I eat throughout the day the food in my stomach/the water I drink makes me weigh more. Really the best time is in the morning, after using the bathroom. (In my opinion at least!) |

| Weight Gain | questions for those recovering from EDs. | May 15 2008 12:11 (UTC) |

Sometimes I have days where I have to force myself to eat, like, "you NEED to eat that yogurt." And I have to convince myself that eating peanut butter is okay. But the struggle for recovery is so worth it - your life will be all the better for it. :) |

Eat a ton of fruits and vegetables, and try to cut down a little on junk food, sugar, dairy, and foods containing yeast, like bread. At least that's what I've heard - I've tried it before, and it seems to make a big improvement. :) |

| Young Calorie Counters | Don't ask if you have an ED when you know you DO! | May 08 2008 00:11 (UTC) |

I've had my ED for three years (it developed when I was 12).
Although personally I would never try and have some random posters on the Internet try and diagnose me/reassure me that I have an eating disorder, because frankly, it really can cause people problems with triggering... I was trying to recover, and was successful for about two weeks, then I got triggered. And now I've got all the same old issues, plus I'm even unhappier because of recovery weight. But anyway... I don't think we should be so harsh to girls who think they might have an eating disorder, even though they're probably just trying to get attention. But for all we know, they could be genuinely concerned for their own health... and just want a little advice. |

| Foods | Peanut Butter!! | May 05 2008 22:48 (UTC) |

I get Skippy Natural. It tastes just like regular peanut butter - no stirring or refrigerating, plus no hydrogenated oils, which can contribute a small amount of trans fat (the jars can say 0 grams as long as there's less than 0.4 - consume a jar of peanut butter, and it can add up!). |
