Thanks to everyone for your posts, the further I get into this pregnancy the more I don't mind the little things about my body. I am starting to look more pregnant so the skin is filling out again for now. I have already started to eat much healthier and (with doctor's okay) I have started working out again and I feel amazing. The stretch marks on my legs are getting lighter so that keeps me hopeful for my tummy. BTW- my mom's body looks amazing you can't even tell she had kids, however, I've inherited most everything from my dad so I wouldn't be surprised if I have to look at my aunts for an idea of how my body will handle all of this. Eitherway just trying to get across that I appreciate the posts and I am feeling better. |

No need to be nervous, personally I hate going to the gyno but thats just because I feel like I don't need to go. Obviously the Air Force knows better though. I've had a million types of exams done and if you are worried about pain or awkwardness, I can tell you none of them hurt and the doctors are always very proffessional. Make sure if you would feel more comfortable with a female gyno you talk to your parents about this. The more comfortable you are with your gyno the more able he or she will be to diagnose any problems if there are any. |

| Fitness | How do I get better at running when I don't ENJOY it? Or do I give up? | May 07 2008 14:25 (UTC) |

Personally I hate just flat out running but I like interval training and I too have a dream of one day running a 5K (not sure I can handle a 10). So, since I know how badly I would love to run that 5K I am slowly working up to it. I enjoy walking and running when I am not winded and doubled over in pain ( I get really bad cramps in my abdomen) so if I work up to it by slowly increasing my pace and how long I run, I don't get winded right away and I really enjoy it. :) Hope this helps. |

I started showing with my first around 6 mos, this time I am at 21 weeks and I've been in maternity clothes since about 16 weeks. Just a heads up to everyone, something I wish somebody would have told me instead of assuming I already knew, You will probably get stretch marks and they don't go away, they fade but they never go away. I was 19 when my husband and I got pregnant with our first and I had only met one pregnant women before and it was for all of about 10 minutes, I had never been around babies before except to meet the one "pregnant women's" son. I babysat for her once and flipped out after her son choked a little on a cheerio. Needless to say I had no idea what I was doing. But back to the point, enjoy the baby belly but take care of it too, drink plenty of water and eat healthy so your body has plenty of nutrients to work with, you will be less likely to get stretch marks this way, also lotion your tummy, your , butt, your thighs, and your breasts. My 20 year old body looks like a map of the US with every lake, road, and river mapped out from my thighs to my breasts. And I have a "flap" a little uglier than the one that Adam Sandler has in the movie Click. So take care of your prego body, workout even if you are just walking around the block (don't let your heart rate get above 140, your baby starts losing oxygen) eat healthy and get lots of water. :) |

I met my husband in the military, unfortunately for medical reasons he had to get out so now he is the stay at home father of our 9 month old and I am a pregnant Senior Airman who as soon as I have this child I will have to deploy, so our roles are definitely reversed. It drives him crazy because we are stationed in Italy so he can't have a stay at home job here, he has to work on base or not at all. With a 3 person family and one more on the way he will have to get a job, I just don't make enough to support our family of four. Mu husband can definitely sympathize with you. He would love to hand our son off to me at the end of the day but I am so tired between the pregnancy and work that I am pretty much useless when I get home. |

Don't forget a women needs 1200 calories for all of her organs to function properly and that is just assuming that all of her calories are going toward her organ function, don't forget to add caories for the getting out of bed, getting dressed, walking around the office and if you are exercising don't forget to add calories for that too. If you go below 1200 calories your body may go into stravation mode and start saving everything you eat as fat. The other thing is you may lose you rperiod, not a healthy sign. If you do see weight gain and you caloric intake is hovering around 12-1400 consider upping it another 100 or 200 calories and you should see the weight start coming off again. If yo lose your period, see a doctor there could be other factors at work besides weight loss. |

| Weight Loss | Which is more important? Weight or size? | May 07 2008 07:58 (UTC) |

If you are worried about numbers affecting your health then the only number you should worry about is body fat percentage. Because muscle weighs more than fat you may be perfectly healthy at a BMI of 26 so long as your body fat percentage is in a healthy range. My freshman year I weighed 155 and wore size 9-11 jeans my senior year (after 4 years of swimming and working out and seeing the fat dissappear) I weighed 155 and wore size 5-7 jeans. Hope this healps. P.S. I would kill to be in size 4-6 now. :) |

I definitely see a difference overall, your arms look thinner and your face and neck, I think you look thinner overall. I know its not exactly measurable but it looks like you have lost some off your back too. (sorry I couldn't think of a good way to put it) Keep it up. :) |

| Health & Support | Ive lost some weight, AND MY PERIOD!? | May 06 2008 08:43 (UTC) |

If you lose your period you definitely need to see a doctor. There are many reasons a women might lose her period. A full grown women who does nothing but has a working body needs 1200 calories for her body to function properly, if her caloric intake dips below that the first thing to go is her period because although it is a sign of a normal healthy body function it is not a necessity. And like it said in an earlier post, if a women can't even get enough calories to support her own organ function how can she be expected to support the growth of a new human. During pregnancy if you are at a healthy weight when you start you are supposed to add 300 calories a day and you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds through out the pregnancy (25 lbs of that will be baby the other 10 is stored for all the calories you will burn breast feeding). If you are underweight or even just on the light side your doctor will probably recommend a little more weight gain to ensure a healthy pregnancy. It's understandable that the period is one of the first things to go. Another reason for a loss of period might be rapid weight loss, again your body thinks there is lack of an energy source (food or fat) so it is trying to store energy by cutting off your period for the same reasons listed above. My period has never been regular, I started when I was 12 I was never underweight or even on the light side but during soccer season and swim season I would lose it from being so active. But by the time I was 15, although I still wasn't regular, I at least got it every month and didn't lose it again until I got pregnant. Even during basic military training when I dropped 15 lbs in about 3 weeks because I was practically starving myself (not the military's fault) I still had a period. Please see a doctor if you haven't already, there are lots of other reasons you may have lost your period and some of them can be serious. It's always better to be safe than sorry. |

Try swimming!!! It is a great workout that doesn't feel like a workout and you can't tell if your sweating or not. Just make sure to get plenty of fluids because like I said you can't tell your sweating but you are. If you are worried about getting in a bathing suit uhhh... I got over it I know you can do it. :) |

| Young Calorie Counters | Do i need to lose weight? (the ultimate question) | May 05 2008 14:41 (UTC) |

there is such thing as over exercising so be careful. And a good judge of if your are overweight or underweight is to find your Body Mass Index (BMI) and your body fat percentage. Usually a local gym can help you find your body fat percentage and you can calculate your BMI on line, google BMI calculator. I went on and checked it your BMI is 19.7. As you can see your are right in the healthy range. :) Underweight >18.5 Healthy 18.5-24.9 Overweight 25-29.9 Obese 30< |

I know it is a diet book but I've been on just about all of them and this one is the healthiest most realistic things I've seen. Bill Phillips Body for Life recipe book has great recipes, educates about good (realistic) portion sizes, and the recipes are all easy to make and balanced. You can also check out bodyforlife.com. I use the program on calorie count plus but I use the recipes and lots of suggestions from bodyforlife.com |

I agree with armandleg, your weight loss might have stalled because your body was trying to adjust to all of a sudden having enough food. Your body was still in starvation mode. If you slowly increase your caloric intake you may plateau for a few weeks, you may even gain a pound or two but after 1,2 or 3 weeks the weight should start coming off again. You'll be healthier for it all around. |

| Weight Loss | how to get rid of fat | May 05 2008 14:11 (UTC) |

First I would go to a local gym and find out your body fat percentage, make sure you ask them what is considered healthy, low, high for your age group. And if you have stopped doing cardio all together, you do need some in there and a great way is swimming ir cycling. Swimming takes all pressure off your joints and it is a full body workout beacause you have resistance from every angle. If you aren't a great swimmer just try running from one side to the other or grab a kick board and flutter kick from one side to the other. I was a swimmer in high school, it helped keep me in great shape. |

I would have loved to have a flat tummy but it never happened for me in the past when I was in shape, but I wasn't overweight by any means, I just had a small pooch. But I found I really didn't mind the pooch, the only reason it bothered me is because none of my friends had one. I found clothes and bathing suits that made my pooch look just as flattering as their perfectly flat tummies. I knew I was in good shape, my friends knew I was in good shape, the guys I hung out with knew I was in good shape, it was just my own self image getting to me. Of course you can continue to work toward your goal, I am not telling you not to, I am just asking that you love your body the way it is and with whatever changes may come your way. Enjoy your workouts and enjoy food, enjoy your friends. It doesn't hurt to have pizza every once in awhile. Just remember to pay attention to portion sizes. Have a slice once a week, just hit the gym for an extra 20 minutes that day. I allow myself small splurges throughout the week, like a hershey kiss or one big splurge once a week like a bowl of ice cream. I was still losing the weight. (I am pregnant now so I am no longer losing weight but I am having a very healthy pregnancy eating this way) |

| Weight Loss | Not even a single pound !!! | May 05 2008 13:25 (UTC) |

Oh! Another thing, weight isn't the only thing you should be watching. When I was in High School, my freshman year I weighed 155 lbs, I am 5'6" and I was in size 9 or 11 jeans. After I joined the military I was in a lot better shape but I was still 5'6" and 155 lbs the difference was in my pant size. I was fitting into size 5's and 7's. Pay attention to your body fat percentage (you can usually get this measured at your local gyms or they even have scales now that can measure it) and use a tape measure to measure your waist, hips, butt, the places where you really feel like you were seeing results that week and more than likely even if your weight didn't fluctuate your measurements may have. Although without a high enough caloric intake you may be losing muscle mass. Also not a good thing. Body fat percentage is the best measurement I think. |

Part of the reason is below 1200 calories your body goes into starvation mode, it thinks there is a food shortage and if it doesn't store fat you'll have nothing for energy. Plus by skipping a meal, your metabolism slows down, again your body thinks there is a food and therefore energy shortage. Your mind knows there isn't a shortage but it is one of those involuntary things programmed into your body. Keep your calorie intake up, get plenty of protein so you feel full at all of your meals, and make sure you don't wait so long between meals that you binge by the time a meal roles around. Healthy snacks in between meals aren't a bad thing in fact they help keep your metabolism going. An apple and some string cheese, 1 cup of cottage cheese mixed with your favorite yogurt, a protein bar... And protein bars are great because you can find one with a low calorie count, high protein (thus the name) and a lot of them come in flavors like cookie dough, peanut butter crunch (tastes like a butter finger) etc... and they will hold you over until you next meal. |
