Vegetarian Can I be vegetarian? Nov 05 2009

I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fake meat, beans or tofu very often but I have a healthy diet. You could use soy milk in place of cows milk, to start off with, or cook tofu (soy bean curd) how you would chicken (bake/fry - look up some recipes on the net). Meat alternatives are handy but not necessary. If you want to become vege then youd need to do a bit of research into what you would actually eat and where you would get your nutrients from, seeing as you don't like a few vegetarian staples.

I never used to like vegetables that much but I've slowly begun to appreciate them and now I love broccoli for example, which I used to hate :) just make slow changes, try to introduce more veges and soy/seitan/quinoa/lentils/endless others in recipes and I'm sure you'll be able to do it.

It hasn't made a difference really. The reason I gained weight though was because of poor eating habits and lack of exercise. I do think though that if I hadn't become vege that I would weigh more.

The movie Zeitgeist starts off with a pretty interesting and explanatory piece about religion(s), and how they all seem to have originated from astrology and studies of the zodiac, -> worshipping the sun.

I still have my once a week treat... and that helps me... rather than having it all the time....

When you have that one piece of chocolate, do you think of what you have to do to work it off as in exercise....

I do when I have a wee treat...lol.

One day at a time..... one step after another step.....

"I am on a mission and I will achieve it...."

See if I only had a once a week treat I would probably go overboard because of not being able to have it all week. I find having something small, once a day stops me from craving it too badly.

Nah I don't really worry about that.. I just make sure to fit it into my calories and make sure I eat healthier throughout the day if my treat is particularly sugary or fatty.

Fitness Does HIIT help with endurance? Can I do both endurance and HIIT training? Nov 05 2009

I used to not be able to run for longer than 5 minutes.  I got up to 45 minutes pretty quickly.  I will share with you how I did it.

First I got on the treadmill.  I set the time for 30 minutes and started running at 6.0.  I ran until I couldn't stand it anymore (about 5 minutes).  Then I walked until I felt I could run again.  I started running... etc... until the 30 minutes was up.

I would do this every other time I worked out.  The other days going back to the HIIT on the elliptical.  Very soon I realized my running spurts were getting longer and longer.  All of a sudden one day I did the whole 30 minutes.  The next time I did 45.

You just have to keep pushing yourself and you can do it.

Yeah see, that's me right now. To be honest I haven't actually tried running til I can't anymore, I just stop when it gets unpleasant and walk on an incline haha. I'll try what you did, because I want to be able to run for 30 mins, I think that's a good achievement. Just for any future times when I may be running around, I don't wanna be the one who gets tired quickly and has to slow down and walk. I plan on doing HIIT with outside sprints so if I make that 20 mins or so it might be easier to run for that long at a constant pace in the future.

1. However, the funny thing is that ever since I started adding in cardio on Tues/Thurs in between lifting/HIIT days, my HIIT workouts have been improving. So endurance work, may have a positive effect on HIIT. Or it could just be pure coincidence and my body is getting in better shape HIIT wise.

2. M/W/F - Lift and do HIIT afterward.

3. By constantly varying my HR, my body will have harder time adapting which is what I want.

1. Wouldn't doing HIIT regularly make future HIIT sessions easier? I guess endurance training and HIIT would have a positive effect on eachother, both improving your fitness really.

2. You can do HIIT after lifting?! I did some weight training today - weights machines, free weights, lunges, a bit of ab work - trying to target everything, and afterwards I was seriously pooped, there's no way I could've done HIIT. Maybe that's because I'm not THAT fit..?

3. So it's better to vary your heart rate during cardio? I always thought you were supposed to keep it raised over a certain level for it to be effective. How much do you vary it?

Hey well done on your blog, I think it's great! where in NZ do you live btw? I'm in wellington :)

Day Ninetytwo: - Two months 30 days

Thank you....  glad there is someone else out there reading it... lol. Good to see another kiwi.  I'm up in AK

By keeping the blog, it is keeping me on track... luckily for me the plateau only lasted 3 weeks... but I have since discovered, that some can go throu it for months and not lose a ounce... so I had to up the ante.. to get it moving again...  and off I went again...

But I haven't been tempted by even drinking coke cola or eating pies etc since I gave them up 92 days ago. Is it willpower or not.... yes and no... the thought of eating them or even wanting to have them doesn't even cross my mind now....

I also enjoy walking my local streets to, now that the warmer weather is about... seeing and getting ideas for the garden... just need to get myself a MP3 player to have something to listen too.

Hope my blog is helping you to achieve your goal too.

One day at a time..... one step after another step.....

Yep! It seems like you have such structure and determination, it's so good. Ah yeh the dreaded pie.. that's cool how you haven't been tempted. I'm lucky in that I don't like pies/chips/soft drink really, my problem is more sweet things.. I generally eat a small bit of chocolate each day so I'm satisfied and don't crave it. I love the "one day at a time" bit! I tend to get impatient so you're good motivation :)

If you are only 18 and he is only 16, then neither one of you should have been drinking!

Not everyone lives in america. Here in NZ the drinking age is 18, and in Europe it's 16 for wine and beer.

I would try a berry flavoured green tea, that's what I drink and it tastes great. I have never tried a normal green tea so I wouldn't know if it tastes bad.

Weight Loss Is anyone out there 5.3 and trying to lose 30 pounds? Nov 02 2009
23:22 (UTC)

I'm about 5'4 and trying to go from 175 to 145.  I've only really just started.

If I can give you advice, it'd be to eat a few more calories.. 1200 is really too low.. and try to eat 5 small meals rather than 3. If you continue eating so few calories, your metabolism will slow down and it'll be harder to lose weight further along the line, and you'll just have to keep cutting down, etc.
