Bigsister - Congrats on your success and thanks -- I will try your approach, I have at least a dozen of pants that no longer fit.  But how did you keep the colds & fatigue away?

the tips do really work....and I was on the right track but then I caught a terrible cold - knocked me out for a week or two. so I gained almost everything I lost in 3 weeks.  So how do you keep the immune system strong? any suggestions? thanks

I thought I should share my motivational story....I started calorie counting approx. 1 month ago. I lost 5-6 pounds in 3 weeks--everything was going great! then I caught a very bad cold....took all of my energy & left me drained ...I started eating....eating...and not counting so that I could function normally -- well, I gained almost everything I lost in the first 3 weeks--now I'm over the cold & trying to get back to counting the calories...but really need whole lot of self discipline!  thanks for listening! ;-)

thanks for sharing your "being patient" stories...it does give me courage to continue because it is so so easy to get discouraged and slip back into "mindless" eating mode...just eating stuff without even realizing that I was actually chewing or tasting!

I hope you dont mind asking but how long did it take for you to loose all the pounds? how much did you reduce your caloric intake? I have a problem with waiting...want to see quick results...but this is not a fast process :-(

Please disregard my last entry...I found another paragraph input by Eric explaining water could actually add up to 5 lbs of fluctuations...I guess I have to be patient which is one of my weakest virtues. thanks.

Thank you for the tips...the reason I am asking is that I'm a little disappointed with myself. After a week of maybe "false" excitement thinking the scale number was going down (I thought I lost 5 pounds, yesterday my weigth was almost went up to the original number as I started the calorie counting 6 days ago). I didn't increase my calorie intake but had increased the starches...I dont want to loose my motivation but it sure feels good to see a lower number every day? but what counts for the fluctuations, water??

I know exactly what you mean...I threw away all the chips (4 large bags) in the house and ...all the candy and cookies... it felt good. If it's not in the house...you cant eat it, right?
Weight Loss which makes you lose faster, diet or exercise? Feb 01 2006

I have a different experience. The past 3 months, I was exercising very intensely...running/walking 2-3 miles every other day and weigth training with normal caloric intake (which was over my recommded amount and I thought I needed to keep my energy level high). I did not loose a pound, in fact I gained 4-5 pounds and felt sluggish. Amazingly, since I started calorie counting, I already lost 4 pounds in 4 days...It is amazing--by the way I eliminated bread and sugar completely.
