My dirty little secret is the Lindt Cafe in Sydney. First time I walked through the door I just stood there and giggled hysterically for a good 5 mins.... then tried everything in the shop. They have these biscuits that are puffy, light textured little pieces of delectability from satans kitchen. Each one is an entire weeks caloric intake. But who gives a f**k!? I don't get to Sydney often but when I do I simply must go beserk. 2kg (4lb) blocks of excellence 70%cocoa chocolate, Ice cream made from the finest cream coaxed from the teat, hand sculpted chocolate morsels in every flavour with every type of sin added. heaven |

| Foods | Green Tea Survey! | Nov 17 2008 23:11 (UTC) |

I live in the middle of nowhere and have my green tea delivered once a month. I always buy Valley Green Tea, they have these awesome little pearls of green tea scented with jasmine flowers and I add that to my ordinary green tea. It's like tea with summery perfume, aahhhh..... Rose petals is something else I like to add. And like liliygirl1970 I have discovered the delights of Moroccan tea. I grow lots of herbs and I like Spearmint rather than peppermint with this tea - just get some leaves and pound them up at the bottom of your teapot, add the green tea and pour boiling water over. Sssoooo ggooooodd...... the spearmint is naturally sweeter than ordinary mint so I find I don't need to add sweetener. Think I'll go make a pot now..... |

| Weight Loss | I am so flippin tired of not knowing the truth about fat loss! | Nov 17 2008 23:03 (UTC) |

I'm not familiar with the specific diet you're following but the way to lose weight is simple and uncomplicated and it's working for me. Eat less. Move more. I don't count calories, but I do enter them on my page on this site at the end of each day. I find it interesting and the recipes area is great for storing my best recipes. Some days I eat more than other days but I generally make sure I move more. I am tracking my weight on the weight log and in the last 2.5 months I've lost 26 lbs. I attribute this loss to the types of food I stopped eating - not the caloric content. Good luck and maybe try varying the excercise you're doing. Your body can get used to it and the effect becomes diminished. Take a salsa dance class instead of the strength and aerobic training one day, weightlifting will build up muscle but if you want to tone yourself so you can see the muscles underneath you should try slow, controlled movement - you still sweat because it's hard to hold your body in awkward positions. Like a yoga class for body-sculpting (as opposed to a meditative class). Change up your excercise routine every few weeks - it's more interesting for you and it will keep your body guessing! Take care and try not to stress about it - hormones released when you are stressed inhibit oxygen absorbtion which prevents healthy system function and will generally age you.

If you DON'T like like the result ask yourself, "did I vote?" If you don't participate you shouldn't complain. If you voted for the other guy, comfort yourself knowing that you were active in the democratic process you hold so dear. I hope those who did choose to participate in democracy chose well. (There was a collective sigh of relief that echoed around the globe.) Time will tell. |

It's amazing what is actually ON the food database - or not as I've found. The food browser can tell you what's in battered king prawns (battered anything shouldn't be on the menu for dieters in the first place, but, heigh-ho) but BBQ'd food, or grilled food, isn't on there! The cooking options for meats aren't terribly healthy although they do have a roasted option for alot of things, but grilling things healthily or BBQing isn't there. As for the food options, if I have the nutritional info I just enter it myself but when I'm entering a recipe I have found that certain herbs and spices just aren't listed but dry ones are - I know they don't have many calories to speak of but the fact that processed foods are there and fresh ones aren't boggles me!!! We are meant to be changing our eating habits for the better here. As australians we do have a truly fantastic array of fresh everything to eat, and the availability is good too. Every supermarket stocks fresh food, we don't have to go to specialty shops for alot of things whereas you would in most other countries. There are some websites for nutritional info on foods, like the daily plate, and I just use that if I can't find it here. I don't think you're missing much by not partaking in triple processed, semi artificial food in a spray can. But as another eater, I do get your curiosity as to the foods we've never heard of over here. By the way, regarding aneets88 comments, I LOVE the aeroplane jelly diet ones. Go the lime or the cranberry. And pura tone milk is fat free and tastes alot better than creamers (my opinion only) - think the UHF single serves!Uurrgh. We also have philly 5% which tastes just like the original and isn't available over there. If there's something you can't find that you really want, post it or send me a message - I've spent ALOT (probably too much) of time scouring supermarket shelves for dietary options and I have some awesome, easy, tasty and quick recipies. I modify my favourite things and have cut the cals in half - like pizza (yes you can) pies, desserts (think berry cakey-tart things) and alot of Jamie Olivers stuff. Drop me a line!! |

| Motivation | breaking up is hard to do. is getting over it going to get easier? (I MUST stay motivated) | Oct 20 2008 07:12 (UTC) |

Oh sweetie!! Breaking up is the pits. At the beginning of the year I finally ended a relationship. We had been together for nine years. I missed my "20's". I had sold everything so that we could move interstate for him to study. Left with everything do clean up and sort out in the end. We were "over" years before I finally ended it. It was a truly toxic relationship. In the final year I gained 20 kilos which I've now half lost (woohoo!!) If I wasn't so far away from him I would have done the stupid thing and got back togather, but I'm extremely lucky. I moved to my parents farm and have just got my teaching licence after studying. I can finally afford semi-regular flying lessons - he was a money vacuum! It is hard, damn hard but ssssooooooooooo worth it. Yes, it does get easier. No lies. I promise. It takes a while though, and you really must remember, in your weaker moments, exactly why you broke up in the first place. The hardest thing, I found, was remembering what I used to do before him. How I filled my days. Getting your thought proccesses to be you focussed after a long time is the trick to putting it behind you. Don't worry - it'll come. Don't have regrets about the relationship either. That just puts down the person you are now - everything you do and have experienced is part of what makes up YOU right now. Oh yeah..... screw the "wait to date" bollocks!!! If you want to see someone, good. Do it! It doesn't have to be another 4 year stint, hell it could be 4 weeks, 4 days!!! But it's up to you. Manipulators eventually make you forget, or feel like you're being unfair about having your say, that's why it's so hard to end it and move on. But you do have your opinion. It's YOUR life to lead. No one has the right to interfere. Now go out there and live your life honey. No second guessing yourself. No limits. No regrets. Take Care and if you still need help hooking up your TV, DVD, Stereo or hooking them all together, send me a msg. Alanna |

| Weight Gain | Ick.. the Stomach Flu.. | Oct 14 2008 01:23 (UTC) |
|
| Sweet dry biscuits and sweet drinks like lemonade diluted 50:50 with water.
You need to keep your sugars and fluids up to prevent dehydration and headaches. They are easy to keep down (or in, if the flu is heading the other way) but remember to drink in sips, not gulps - it's easier on your stomach.
Stomach flu is always difficult, things either don't want to stay down or go down and through with frightening speed! A good perspective on your health is what you need to keep in view. There are times when the diet must go out the window, if you are unwell and can't eat you have to eat simple sugars and salts for your body to be able to function and fight bugs. If you have sworn off these things for your diet, allow yourself to be flexible. Some circumstances call for it and your general wellbeing is the most important thing.
Use real sugar not sweeteners, it's easier for your body to metabolise and although it is generally good to limit it, when you are unwell like this you do need to assist your body by giving it simple foods.
On the upside it'll probably have a great effect on the scales when you're better!! I hope you and your father get well soon. Alanna |

| Health & Support | ............Abortion...........? | Sep 21 2008 15:49 (UTC) |

My gosh!! It doesn't seem as though the question of an abortion is the real issue here. My very young dear, You need to seek help over this unbelievable paranoia that you have. That is what is driving you here. Pregnancy is not something you can be "ready" for but it's also not something that happens without dual input. An ejaculation is required a the right time in your cycle - when you're ovulating - and it must happen inside you. The fact that you were using a profilactic AND he didn't ejaculate inside you, yet you are still concerned, only leads to the conclusion that you are seriously paranoid or you don't really know how the whole thing works. In either case you should lay off the sex until you learn a bit more about it.There are infinite resources for you to consult on the web regarding this. I would however, suggest that if you think you are mature enough to have sex you act a bit more maturely about it. For the record I do not believe there is anything wrong with abortion, it can be positive choice in a young persons life. If you do find yourself in the situation of having to make that choice take your time. Abortions can be carried out legally up to 15 weeks. Never underestimate the strength your family can provide, regardless of your choice, and know that you will have to live with it. It doesn't have to be something that "haunts" you if you are comfortable with your decision. I know I seem harsh but there are millions of infants alive today who are born because the parents had no choice. If you live in a first world country you do have a choice and it is your responsibility, on a scale that is larger than your own life and world, to act responsibly about bringing a new life into everyone elses world. Make sure you do it for the right reasons and with support that will last the childs lifetime. Again, sorry for the harshness. This may or may not help but as it is on a public forum.. well.... that's my two cents worth.

Hi there Sublime, The first one is a Martial Arts information centre, different styles etc and has a school locator, but it's in the US so if you live there...Hurrah!! The second one is provided by the same provider as calorie count: About.com. It has free tutorials, another locator, different styles etc. This site seems to have more, the other one looks a bit WWF!! Follow the link from the home page thru browse topics Martial arts styles and you'll have a page with options for the best defensive styles or low impact styles. You'll find something. I'm from OZ so the reputable places I know of - my brother is accomplished in Kali and Escrima - won't help you much. Hope this helps.

Can anyone give me the brand name of a good bra? I'm an E - When I'm thinner a C or D depending on the time of the month (yes my boobs do swell a whole size in that phase of my cycle, though not so much since I found a fabulous contraceptive pill!) I wear a Triumph underwire sports bra - recommended by the Australian Institute of Sport, this is underneath a Berlei Tank style bra made of a kind of wet suit fabric. I was fitted for them both by a professional. The front of my chest, not so much my back and shoulders, but from underarms across the top of the boobs and up the sides of my neck. My fitness has improved since I started losing weight and if I don't keep up the pace I might regress. But I dread excercise because of the movement. Cardio and a strong sports bra are only causing greif - not that I plan to stop but short of using surgical strapping bandages/tape, I'm out of ideas. I've started taking ibuprofen before I excercise so that it doesn't hurt as much. Are there any brands in any country that anyone knows of to support and reduce the muscle soreness? I'm sure I'll lose alot of boob as the weight comes off but that won't happen without excercise. Catch 22.

| Recipes | thai curry: coconut milk substitutes? | Sep 02 2008 03:39 (UTC) |

I also love curries - I've been eating them since I was weaned. Use Light coconut milk / cream. In australia - where I am - they're much the same price as each other and the flavour is still rich. If you buy a full cream one and want to water it down might I suggest adding some Low- salt stock, ready made is best as cubes contain alot of sodium. If you're making a chicken curry use chicken stock, if it's a beef curry use beef, etc. I have some great curry recipes if you'd like them all under 400 calories per serving. Some are Indian, Indonesian, Thai, Burmese, Pakistani. I'm currently experimenting with Gulab Jamoon - and Indian desert flavoured with rosewater, as well as chapati and naan. Looking for the lowest kj flour that's available is the tricky bit. Enjoy, and never stop eating curries!

| Health & Support | Getting a Cold & need advice | Aug 27 2008 14:31 (UTC) |

honey, a cold has no cure. The problem itself cannot be soled until your body has purged it. What you CAN do is make yourself more comfortable. Ginger tea is ok but green tea is better. One of the very few "natural" or herbal remedies that has had double blind pharmaceutical trials is vitamin C. It boosts the level of white blood cells. White blood cells are what fights off infections. Be careful how much you take though, it can give you the runs if you have more than 2g per day and if you're on the pill this means decreased absorbtion. I find a nice liquorice and peppermint tea is fab. When you have a cold you can still taste it!! You can try a horseradish & garlic compound, echinacea, or cats claw, but some of these things have contraindications if you're athsmatic. Stick to warm socks and soothing teas and a bit of days of our lives and you'll be right in no time!! |

| Weight Loss | 29 years old, new to program..HELP PLEASE | Aug 27 2008 06:09 (UTC) |

Hey there kjames43, I don't have any advice other than to log on often and listen to the advice that regulars on this site offer. Not everything works for everybody but there will always be someone who has great ideas, tips or advice when you need it. Any cries for help on a bad day don't go unheeded either. This really is a fantasic resource. I have personally become addicted to the recipe analyzer. Things I've been cooking that I thought were reasonable.... well, turned out to be not so good!! Spend a bit of time finding your way around the site and all the great things it offers. You meet some pretty awesome people too who are doing the same thing. Good luck and I'll catch you again another day!!

| Weight Loss | Lost 93, on my way to 110 lost...Left over flab question! | Aug 27 2008 04:08 (UTC) |

Hi there, I'm not from the states I'm from oz. I know that here you can make enquiries with the governing body, in this case it would be the Australian Medical Association, as to whether a particular surgeon has any serious pending complaints or legal action against them. You could start with the Society for aesthetic plastic surgery, the American society of plastic surgery, The Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, etc etc. Google it. When in doubt, Google it! There are also a plethora of scar reduction treatments out there. I was in a car accident and my back was cut to ribbons years ago. 7 years after I started putting humble old Rose Hip oil on twice a day and after a year there's only one noticeable scar left (it's in a spot I couldn't reach!). I know that Ciba-Geigy also has fantastic treatments for very recent wounds, so post surgery would be ideal. The more you pay doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a better job. Make sure they have insurance and you'd be covered - admitting liability is a definite positive with surgery, it indicates they are confident in the experience and qualifications of their surgeons. Also an affiliation with a reputable society is also a good thing to look out for.Don't be afraid to ask every question that pops into your head, you want to be comfortable with your choice of surgeon. I'd also start using a good body moisturiser now, it'll help the elasticity and healing when you do decide to get it done. Congrats on your awesome effort!! Let the rest of us know upon whom you decide - I may take a trip to get mine done when I reach my goal!!! |

| Foods | Most full for fewest calories? | May 19 2008 07:23 (UTC) |

It sounds crappy - no pun intended - but sugar free metamucil. The fibre in it expands after you've drunk it, it actually starts to thicken in the glass, and definitely takes the edge off cravings. It is artificially sweetened so if you're allergic to those then it's no good, otherwise it's 20 calories per 250mL (2 spoonfuls of powder). But you do get a sweet drink fix. It also can help the ol' bowels - often if you're dieting that whole system can be neglected. we focus on what goes in and not what's best coming out. (bit crude I know, sorry). The usual source of fibre is bread which is often one of the first things to go during weight loss because of the number of calories. Plain, hot Earl Grey tea is also excellent. 2 cups, no milk. Add a sweetener (not sugar obviously) and a very thin slice of lemon. Very astringent, cleansing and yummy!!! |

How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
