I've recovered and am back on track.  Thanksgiving is going to be fun this year and I'm going to do my best to work off any extra on Friday.

Amycs22:  Emotional eating is one of my triggers too.  I was giving this some thought a while back and decided  to 'analyze' all the ways in my life I am "hungry". (I just might be a wee bit analytical by nature).  Here was my approach: Every time I 'feel hungry' I try to take a deep breath and ask myself if food is really what I want/need at the moment? I'm trying to look back to see the the ways my mind makes connections between hunger and emotions.  (I usually want to avoid/ignore the emotion and food is my great distractor.)  I have been surprised at the connections and discoveries I've made....It has been a little hard, but a good journey, finding 'me' again.

ikiteiru  LOL!  Well, it never hurt so bad I couldn't eat...I think a little pain when I started in on those cookies would have saved me some grief, but oh well...  You are right about hiking and walking.  It's been a bit cold, but I can dress for that if I just quit pouting around and get too it.  I have snowshoes too for that matter and we have snow.  Time to get out there!

I am doing ok so far on this diet. Was wondering what methods everyone is using, im trying the slimfast diet, working great so far. The holidays will be hard, focus of the family and friends part and not the food, is one trick ill be using.

Congrats on the loss!

I figured out the calories I need to loose weight on CC and I am tracking everything I eat on the food tracker, trying to get as close as possible to my daily goal.  I'm also tracking my exercise on the activity tracker.  I have tried to add at least one vegetable or salad a day and drink more water.

I did the SlimFast thing, homemade protein shakes, diet pills, special frozen meals and numerous other things and lost lots of weight, but in my case, wasn't ever able to keep it off.  Maybe if I'd have had something like CC to track maintenance calories when I hit my goal weight then I could have held on to the loss?  Hard to say...  This time around I have taken over a year and half to loose about 25 lbs but it seems like my head is in the game this time.  I feel like I'm changing the way I think about food almost more than the way I eat...

As you can see in my last post, I still have those bad days, but now I just pick myself up after a face plant, dust off and start again. (Which I learned how to do here on the blogs and posts....)

Don't know, different things work for different people.

Be gentle with yourself, you are worth it!

Welcome and Good Luck!!!!

I had a complete and total melt down this weekend and revisited some really bad ways to deal with stress from work....(I'm going back to climbing tonight no matter what hurts)

On the bright side this weekend, I bought jeans that are a size smaller than the ones I was wearing and they aren't even tight.

Lesson learned: Keep party food and other misc party junk food out of house until day of party.  Call friends and ask if they can store it and bring it by the day before or that day.  Or better yet, call friends instead of eating the entire can of cookies in 2 days!

Guys! It's T-day next week. Nibble....munch....snack.

I'm a little bit worried, but I've given myself permission to just enjoy the holiday and be diligent the rest of the week.  We'll see what happens.

The Holidays get me on every level, but I'm going to try to focus on being positive and having fun....

Last night I messed up my hand when I was climbing and I don't think I can climb for a few days without risking worse injury :(   Now what am I going to do?  This is the only thing that keeps me in the realm of sanity....  (Thank goodness I can still type)

I am down a few pounds! I have been walking almost daily for about an hour. I am already thinking about what I could take to our Thankgiving feast at my Grandma's that will be healthier. Any ideas? Also, what is "trend weight"?

Congrats! Keep up the healthy eating and exercise!!!

Someone always brings a veggie and dip tray of sorts to our family deals, but that's just one of our traditions....  Good for pre-feast snacking.

The Trend is found on your CC home page weight log.  If you record your weight on your home page when you enter the weight it links you out to a graph and weight info you've put in so far.  CC has set up a column that averages all the weight entries against time so you can track how you are doing over all.  It's a better way to get a realistic picture of what's really happening.

Normal weight fluctuations can be anywhere from 2-4 lbs at any given time.  There are many different things that influence that number.  Daily weighing is a quick glance and really not a very meaningful number.  The trend is a much better way to really judge the over all weight loss progress.  The idea here is to motivate and remind ourselves of the choices we have everyday, not to judge ourselves.

I use these weigh-ins as a way to keep me focused and mindful of my goal.  It's important to eat healthy, exercise but most of all be patient and go for a life style change instead of just 'being skinny'.  Like they say over and over on CC, 1 to 2 lbs a week is a reasonable, healthy amount of weight loss (take the average of the 3 weekly weigh-ins if you don't track on CC weight page to gauge) because the numbers game will break your heart.  (Not to mention destroy your motivation!)

It's not a race or contest!

Please be good to yourself! You are soooo worth it!!!!

Amycs22, glad you are feeling better!

I did a 2lb'r jump in a day a while back....I don't like when they hit, but I'm getting more comfortable with the fluctuations and think they are normal.  Not fun but just the way our bodies work.  You're doing great...

All right, sounds good. I weigh everyday but it does get discourging so I will go to three times a week, M, W, and F sounds good.

Start weight- 151

Current weight- 140

Goal- 130 by  Christmas Day

I gained about fifteen to eighteen pounds the first part of this year, after menopause began. I have lost eleven but need to lose ten more; it has taken me so long this time. The last ten pounds have been especially hard!!

I agree, it's hard to weigh everyday and not get discouraged.  In reading other posts out there, it's not uncommon to see anywhere from 1 to 4 lbs fluctuation in a day!

fadingbabe and lulubelle79 These might just be normal fluctuations in weight...

It WAS water weight and now the 'water' is gone....  Nice, but I still need to be better about drinking more water.  Should we restart the game of tag?

For me this is proving to be a great reminder to eat healthy and stay on track.

Here's my question:  What's with 160's?  I am and have been on the 160's plateau for quite a while.  While I FINALLY saw 159.8 lbs, seems like weight gravity and I weighed in this morning at 161.  I've been logging what I eat and staying on track at or below my calorie targets and exercising.

I finally decided it must be sunspots.  Nothing else to explain it.  It seems like I'm reading numerous posts from all different threads and lots of people about this weight plateau.

Is it my imagination or is this 'more common'?

Hooray for weekend warriors!  (Hooray for weekends. period.)

Speaking of restart, restart and starting again...Monday is the start of another week, hope everyone has a good one.

Today, I finally finished making and freezing homemade applesauce and last batch of apples is now in the slow cooker becoming apple butter, as I type.  Two cases of apples-what was I thinking??? (I started two weeks ago but only got a half case put away.  It had to wait until today to be finished.)  Why is it when snow flies I start cooking and storing things like the world is going to end?  Oh well, makes good gifts, so I can say I've started on my Christmas gifts!  HA!  Now that's bragging!

I also shoveled my entire drive today, so I got a full body workout, too boot AND stayed well within my calories today, under 1500 which is what is recommended.

Laundry can wait, I'm off to sit in front of my nice little wood stove with a hot cup of tea. Very, very nice when it's only 10 degrees.

Hey, I say whatever it takes, Dwgeo!  Clever solution on the late night grazing.  That schedule is considered the norm in Europe :)  Congrats on the running, that's great!

Last night after hitting the climbing gym (and the ER after a friends boy hit his head coming off the bouldering wall-he was fine btw) we went over to California Pizza Kitchen.  That was tough, the pizzas look sooooooo good.  I compromised and got the half serving of the Thai Crunch salad. (Still a whopping 731 calories, which I realized after I got home and looked it up, but I'd been running a deficit that day, so it panned out)  Other than being high calorie, it does have lots of cabbage, soy, roasted chicken.  It's the really good spicy peanut dressing that takes me out at the knees.

Anyway, I held my ground and didn't get pizza :)

Ok, I'm back in action. I was out of town/on the road from Friday morning - Monday night so all I ate for 4 days straight was fast food. UGH! I love fast food every so often but just the thought of it made me want to puke. I expect I'm going to see those results on the scale in the next few days, but I'll get back on track. I'm moving out of my condo this week, back into my parents house. Free rent, yay! It shouldn't be a difficult move since it's just a few miles away, but I am just such a HORRIBLE packer. When I moved out of my college house, I thought I had packed "most of my stuff" before my mom came to get me. She and my best friend end up packing the rest of it for me, which was way more than half of my sh**, while I carried everything back and forth to the uhaul. Ay yi yi! I have to be out Sunday night so I am trying to do a little bit at a time after work each day. Unfortunately that means no time for the gym! :( At least I won't be sitting still. Next week I want to be in the gym allllllll day long. Haha. We'll see about that.

How is everyone doing? Who's getting some exercise today?

Exercise?  I seem to be morphing into a slug....  ugh!  I've got to get moving!

How is everyone?  I'm still trying to get my weight moving in the right direction. It just won't move now!  I'm eating veggies and fruit and no fast food.  Why won't my weight move!!!  I'm keeping my calories at around 1300 and I'm really counting everything I eat.  I've been doing this for a while and I should be losing and I'm not.

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

It's tough!  I hit a plateau for 6 months, I'm still moving very, very slowly.  1400-1700 cals per day except when I had a few meltdowns.  Just hang in there!!!  It will be okay and you'll get there....
