Well, since moving into a new apartment and getting through a midterm, paper, and presentation due in the last two weeks, I haven't been keeping up with this as well as I wanted. But, it's 03 November so I wanted to post my progress: SW: 172.2 (01 October) CW: 167.4 (03 November) I was pretty close to meeting my goal! 4.8 lbs lost in October for a total of 40.6 lbs lost since starting this whole thing in February! I know the holidays are coming up but if we stick together we CAN still lose weight!! Who's up for another 5 lbs by December 1st? |

Well, I forgot to post on weigh-in day but here are my current stats: SW 178.2 CW: 172.2 Down 0.8 lbs again since last week and 6 lbs since Labor Day (and almost 36lbs since February)!!! I guess that means I met my goal of losing at least 5 lbs by 01 October!! Anyone up for another 5lb goal by November 1st? |

Welcome samiaz! Good luck to everyone in this new 5lb challenge. I changed information for our group to update our new goal and used my starting weight as the last day of our last goal--Labor Day. So, here's my first weigh in! SW: 178.2 CW: 176 Down 2.2 lbs since Monday which I'm SO relieved at. I'm pretty sure I packed on the extra 2 lbs from water retention from my TOM and now that it's over I'm back to "normal". Whatever it was, I'm happy to be back on track and am getting ready to go to the gym! Happy weigh ins to everyone! |

Well, I did not meet my Labor Day goal since I gained ~ 2 lbs since my last weigh in between my TOM and splurging Labor Day weekend. nancster--great job! I would definitely be up for losing AT LEAST 5 lbs by October 1st. Let's do it! |

Everyone did great! I went on vacation for a week so I did not count calories but I did watch a bit what I ate. Anyway, I'm the same weight as before I left so yay! johgar, 8lbs is awesome! I think we could set another date for another 10 lbs! Maybe labor day? Let me know! |

amberwolg--I think that a 4 lb weight fluctuation is normal and can be due to a number of different things--not just having a week that you eat more sweets than usual. I went up and down (two weeks ago) 6 lbs in one day! I think that getting back on track will not be as difficult as you think. Deprivation is definitely not the way for me to go... I've lost over 18 lbs since February and my diet has at least once a week contained Pizza, or Chipotle, or Potbelly's, or even alcohol! The key is mitigation by making sure you still stay at/just under your recommended calorie intake by eating less calories at your other meals for the day and still maintain a deficit of 500-1000 calories per day. Some days I haven't done this and I have still lost weight (I think because I started to go to the gym regularly). I say that you're doing great and you should be proud of what you have accomplished so far! I'm 5'5'', 23, ~190 lbs. I started at 208 at the end of February and this is the meal plan that I have been sticking to (and lost 18 lbs so far while on it!): Breakfast @ 9 am: Approximately 230-270 calories Quaker Lower Sugar or Weight Control Oatmeal (120-160 cals made with water) Banana (~110 cals) Lunch @ 11:30 am: Approximately 588 calories 8 ounces Dannon Light n Fit Yogurt (90 calories total) 100 calorie pack snack (Pringles, Chex mix, or popcorn) Baby Carrots (8-10 carrots is ~28 calories) Peanuts (1 serving=39 pieces=170 calories) SlimFast High Protein Peanut Granola Meal Bar (200 calories) Snack @ 3:00 pm: Approximately 187 calories Orange (~87 calories) Smart Pop 100 Calorie Popcorn Dinner @ 7 pm: Approximately 458 calories Organic Baby Spinach salad (2 cups ~ 20 calories) Balsalmic Vinaigrette dressing (2 Tbsp ~ 60 calories) Perdue Perfect Portions Boneless Chicken Breast (~ 140 calories) Whole Wheat Bread (2 slices ~ 138 calories) Country Crock (for the bread; 2 Tbsp ~ 100 calories) Total: Approximately 1503 calories. I have also begun regularly exercising so I have increased my daily calorie intake by adding a 100-200 calorie snack (like strawberries and whipped cream or an apple and peanut butter or chips and salsa) after dinner. I'm not a breakfast person at all so I keep my breakfasts to 200-250 calories, lunches to 500-600 calories, total daily snacks to 200 calories, and dinners to about 500 calories. I also have at least one day a week where I don't count calories. Hope it helps! |

How rude! Although I must say I've made the same mistake with a friend I hadn't seen for months who had already had her baby... it's very embarrassing for both parties! Great job on going for a run! I ended up not going to the gym Saturday or Sunday but I did play racquetball with the bf which was intense! My motivation comes from myself. I quit smoking cold turkey two years ago after having smoked all through college so I think that if I can do that, I can do this! Other than that, I would just like to be a healthier, better looking person, and I know that it's not going to happen on its own! Keep up the great work and try to remember that it's long-term lifestyle changes that you're making, and don't give up! |

My weekly routine is at least 4 days of cardio + weights per week. The past few weeks I've been able to do 5-6 days a week but I'm starting my summer semester of grad school classes so I'll probably have to stick to just 4 days a week to keep my sanity. My typical workout is: 25-30 minutes elliptical "aerobics" mode (varies speed, arms only, legs only, resistance, etc.); 25-30 minutes weight routine (see below); and then if I have the time/energy 15-25 minutes on the treadmill (speed from 3.0-4.5 and elevation from 1.0-3.5) or I'll do the "fat burn" mode on the recumbent bike (maintains your heart rate @ fat burning pace based on age). Then I gained it all back from going on vacation, getting sick and starting grad school. This year I've been willing to give it another shot and would definitely recommend it for people who have little/no experience with what kind of weight training exercises to do. |

Age: 23 Height: 5'5'' SW: 208 (jan) CW: 195 GW by July: 185 GW (total): 140 Strategy: I eat between 1500 and 1700 calories a day as well as do at least 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weights 6 days a week, although my doctor told me realistically that I only need to do 4 days a week. What are everyone's strategies? |
