Weight Gain pop Aug 08 2009

Maybe you could try some fruit and/or veggie juice?

Also, what I do is, for each serving of diet coke I drink, I make myself drink a serving of water.  So, if I go get a diet coke and drink it, the next thing I drink will be water.

I used to only drink diet coke, nothing else.  Bad for the kidneys!

I was thinking the juice for you, as it might help with the weight gain, and does provide a few nutrients as well.

Usually when someone is so in an ed if thery are not ready to see the light and change it can be hard for anyone else to make a difference. I too agree and like I stated in my previous reply there is a huge difference here since the approach was in a gym and usually people with a condition like colitis or my ex cancer would not be working out hard core at this weight. So this is a learning experience for you and in any regards whether it was right or wrong you did it in a nice fashion. That is the key. I had a lady yell at me the other day for parking in a handicap spot. Like really rude. Well she did not see my sticker and she just thought since I looked young and fine I was not supposed to be there. If she would of approached me in a nice way I would of not felt so bad but because she yelled and was rude it hit a sore spot. It is all in the tone one says things and you have a good heart so try to remind yourself that but also look at why you are letting this bother you so much. I see a pattern that you want to make sure you either look a certain way or do things in a certain way that is acceptable to others and can get approval but what about how you feel and think?

You see a pattern in Chrissy?  From her one post explaining how she felt concern for someone, you "see a pattern that you want to make sure you either look a certain way or do things in a certain way that is acceptable to others and can get approval but what about how you feel and think?"

Pattern -

"a combination of qualities, acts, tendencies, etc., forming a consistent or characteristic arrangement: the behavior patterns of teenagers." from dictionary.com

Chrissy tried to help.  She did not accuse, threaten, or berate.  She did not tell the girl that she is anoerexic, or has an ED.  If she is that thin, it is not safe to be working out for hours at the gym, regardless of WHY she is that thin.

It is our job to try to help others when we can.  That's one reason why the world is going to hell in a handbasket - nobody wants to help anyone, especially if it makes the helper uncomfortable in any way.

I think the world needs more people who get involved, instead of everybody "minding their own business".  Not wanting to get involved is often code for not wanting to help.

Get involved - we should all try to help those around us.  We are here to help each other in this world.

Whether she had an ED or not, whether she got mad or not, your heart was in the right place, and you were trying to help a fellow human being.

I agree.

I've read some downright mean things from people, sometimes when people were just innocently commenting on a food or snack they like.

Maybe you could go for a walk, or jog, or do some other exercise so that you are burning more calories - then you get to eat more!

I hate exercise, but it allows me to eat more food.

Your daily calorie deficit should not be more than 1000 calories.  So you should probably increase your calorie intake.  I personaly aim for about 750 daily deficit.

Health & Support saving calories = full/bloated/CONSTIPATED...I can't stop someone please help!! Mar 23 2009

I am a calorie saver too.  Like you, I'm always worried that I will be hungry in the evening, and won't have any calories left.  I don't think I will overeat (too scared too, then I might not stop), I just have this thing about going to bed hungry.  I will do it if I have to, but I hate it, so yeah, I will save like half of my day's calories (sometimes more) for dinner and after dinner snacking.

I too have constipation issues, but I always have, it's nothing new.  I find the best thing is to make sure to get plenty of water and exercise.  When I increase fiber, I get even more constipated.

Also, acidophillous (sp?) capsules help my stomach issues a lot.  It is the same thing as in yogurt, but in caplets or capsules.  Make sure you get as fresh as possible, and keep them in the fridge.

One more thing - it might sound weird, but if you just sit on the toilet for a few minutes at the same time every day, sometimes you can kind of trick your body into a little bit of "regularity".

I LOVE soup, eat it every day for lunch lol!

Right now I am stuck on the Progresso Light Santa Fe Chicken and the Beef Pot Roast.  I alternate between the two each day.

Soups I HATE are ones that are all veggies and nothing else!

Favorite all-time soup - it's a toss-up between homemade baked potato soup or french onion soup - both super good!!!

I don't have a solution for you, but wanted to say that I feel the same way - the descriptions of activity are very subjective, and I really don't know how to accurately gauge my activity level.

What I have been doing is keeping it on sedentary, then logging any exercise I do and increase my calorie intake accordingly.

I like soy milk, and almond milk, but none compare to cow milk.  They each have a taste all their own.

I guess I like almond milk the best (as far as milk substitutes go), though it is very thin and watery.

I usually have the almond milk in my cereal or oatmeal, but if I am just drinking a glass of milk, it has to be cow's milk.

Weight Loss The day before weigh-in, what do you do? Mar 05 2009

Ummm...don't you want the number on the scale to be whatever your weight actually is?

If you do something special to try to make it less the day you weigh, it is only going to be back to "normal" thereafter.

Why not just try your best each day, and watch the scale naturally go down?

Original Post by kaufmkk:

Does anyone out there cook anymore or even know how to use a stove?

And whatever happened to the art of sandwich making?

For supper last night, I had:

3 oz pork loin fixed in a grill pan
fresh asparagus fixed in the same grill pan w/oilve oil and garlic
half a sweet potato fixed in the microwave
     1 sliced apple

Prep time:  less then 10 min
    Cook time:  approx 10 min

Quick, easy to count the calories (325), filling, nutritious, and yummy!

I like the occasional frozen dinner myself (yep.... LC Butternut Squash Ravioli rocks!), but let's get back to the basics!  If we can find 1 to 2 hours to watch TV every night, then surely we can find 15-20 minutes to prepare a meal.

**This mild rant is directed at people who say they WANT to eat healthy, but resort to highly processed frozen dinners.**  Those people who are just looking for convenience, please ignore me.  Most people do!  Foot in mouth

There are several comments I could make in regards to that, one is that is great that you are able to do that, I'm happy for you.

Do you have the same meal every night?  The meal you stated was a 20 minute meal, are all of your meals that quick?

Also, if you cook, then you have to find time to clean the kitchen.  And shop.

I commute to work, 1-2 hours each way.  My day begins at 5:00 a.m., I leave the house by 6:30, and I don't get home until 8:00 p.m.  I go to bed at 10:00 p.m.

That leaves me two hours in the evening to cook, eat, clean, take care of my pets, do laundry or any other chores I have, and relax before going to bed.

It is much easier to fly through the grocery store to the frozen dinners, throw some in your cart, go run through the produce, and run home.

It takes 6-8 minutes for most frozen dinners, and all you have to wash is a fork, lol!

Plus, they taste good.

AND, regarding health - they are much, much, much healthier than what I would have gotten before - drive thru - Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc.

Probably the same for many others on here also.  Much healthier than what they were eating before.

So, in that respect, they are "healthy".  Laughing

P.S. - I, personally, would never eat asparagus or sweet potato - yuck!

I have them for dinner every night.  I love them, they taste good, low in calories and fat, and are quick and easy.  I don't have time to cook "real" food when I get home.  Plus, I can know exactly how many calories I am getting, which is VERY important to me.  I don't have to worry if my three ounces of chicken has a little fat on it or not, etc.

I don't watch sodium at all.  I add salt to lean cuisines, lol.  I have spoken to my doctor about sodium, and she said since my blood pressure is low, and I am healthy, I don't need to worry about it.  I LOVE salt, lol.

Fitness Body fat percentage & heart rate monitors? Mar 01 2009

Thanks for all the info!  I took tater's suggestion and got the Omron Fat Loss Monitor from Academy yesterday.

While there, I was looking at all of the different heat rate monitors.  I was originally looking at the Polar brand, and then saw the MioMotiva.

Has anyone had any experience with this heart rate monitor?

Thanks!

At 320 calories, I would use it as a meal bar instead of a snack bar.  I always keep some sort of meal bar handy for the times that I can't eat my regular food so I am not tempted to get fast food.

At least you are getting better nutrition and lower fat than if you had a drive-thru meal.

Weight Loss I give up! Mar 01 2009

Give it more time.  It's been two days - those two pounds could be water, poop, who knows what.

My weight does that always - one day it is down, then for the next two or three it's up again, then it suddenly goes down.

Try weiging only once a week.  I know it's hard, but it helps mentally!

Just keep doing all of the right things, in a few days you will see the weight going down again.

You aren't a failure!  At least you are trying to do something good for yourself.  I agree with jesse - just keep at it.  When I first started going to the gym, I couldn't do the elliptical for more than 3 minutes.  Seriously.  Now, I'm up to 15 minutes, lol! No, I'm not able to go for hours like some can, but I just keep trying, and my stamina is increasing.  Yours will too.

You go girl!

Jesse -

I'm with you!  I LOVE jerky, tastes great, low cal, takes a while to eat.

I also love quick, easy, low cal things like splenda, diet sodas, meal bars, etc.

I know that is really looked down on here, but that's what I like, and believe me, I am eating, much, much healthier now than I used to.

Lots of people in these forums would be appalled to know that I eat a Lean Cuisine for dinner EVERY NIGHT!  Heaven forbid!  LOL.

I also eat fresh fruit, veggies, etc.

But I am gone from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day, and I don't have the luxury or energy to shop and cook for "food that is good for you".

I just felt for you, cause you said your bubble was burst - I feel like that on these forums a lot too, so I am very careful of what I post, lol.

I LOVE 100 calorie packs too.  ROFL

Take Care!
