good old california - used to live there for a while so i m going to see friends all over, hence staying with them hence cooking/eating with them. so i got some control over what and how much i eat for sure and in my usual day to day life i have not cut out anything either so i m hoping that i m in a good routine that will carry me over. toally positive about it.

Thank you. I was curious to get the perspective of a health care professional. There are so many posts on CC and the last one I read happen to talk about how cardio burns fat and muscle and to not loose muscle added weight trainings supports more fat loss. But just abs might not do the job as they are small muscle group in comparison. I didnt know weight training was not recommended for young teens, didnt even think about that. so maybe something like a gymnastics class or swimming woudl be beneficial for someone young? learn something new every day

katie002: high intense cardio is a good one for health and burning calories. but in order to burn more fat than muscle mass you also want to do weight training. |

| Foods | Does unsalted butter keep? | Apr 01 2009 23:56 (UTC) |
|
unsalted butter keeps for weeks. it is fat and fat is a natural preservative. well, strictly speaking butter is made from milk fat, mostly about 82% the rest is water, minerals etc. some people like to use margarine instead, which is not an animal product but careful, some have hidden fat and therefore LDL cholesterol. As always, everything in moderations. PS: i had never even seen salted butter until i moved to north america so this was such a strange question to read... or the amount people use to put on absolutely everything including pancakes and muffins. weird. sorry. |

leesab1: just doing crunches will not help you loose fat on your stomach. what will help is toning muscles all over the body- it speeds up the metabolism and aids fat loss. I urge both of you to read this threat if you are seriously interested in fat loss. it si a little logner but it tells you all you need to nkow. no BS. http://caloriecount.about.com/must-read-anyon e-trying-lose-fat-ft134311#8 emotional eating obvisouly might add some other things that need to be tackles: i know. |

| Weight Loss | Just curious | Mar 30 2009 20:51 (UTC) |

when your body gets rid of extra pounds, the calories - exercise & BMR - you burn will be less. it will get harder to maintain a huge difference ad you get closer to a regular weight and loss often slows down as the body tries to hold on to extra food. at some point you will go to maintance, aiming for intake around your burn to stay steady some days less cals and some days more but evens out over a week or so. does that answer the question? |

| Weight Loss | Overeating when I'm sad? Advice? | Mar 26 2009 19:06 (UTC) |

Hi there, i dont have depressions but i am an emotional eater too. carving food makes somewhat sense because your body will release endorphines after eating which make you feel better. a basic step to try and feel better without eating is to get those endophines from something else: exercise. someone else posted the following 'food for mood': it is hard to tackle depression and weight loss together. maybe talking to a doc or cousellor would be good but i dont know your life circumstances. |

Hi JTH, thank you for the reply. Knowing someone listens is very helpful. I had a look at your profile and saw that you are fairly new so i just wanted to welcome you to CC. It is so nice to get answers and give answers to people on here, very encouraging. It is journey and you can do it! One step at a time. Mini goals and rewards are a great idea. Looking at other peoples before/after pics is a good motivation and soon your own pics/measurements/weight. Stay away from the supplements though. Any questions, feel free to ask |

please consult your doctor about it and be honest about your eating habits. candy bars make your blood sugar go very high and then shoot back down but sugar cravings can also be a sign of diabetes. |

what you do sounds great. well done ! the interval training will help, definatly. sometimes it can be beneficial for your metabolism to have as many calories as you burn, for example you say you burn 2100 without exercise so on a day off you would eat 2100. but honestly, just keep up the good work, the healthy eating and you will be just fine. if you happen to be someone who gets very upset up the numbers on the scale i suggest to take measurements. sometimes those tell much more. and i m sure you know everything is a combination: hormonal levels, salt and sugar intake, water retention, etc etc

| Fitness | Drumming and Cardio question.... | Mar 23 2009 22:01 (UTC) |
2 |
if you have fun and dont get very tired with how you go about things you can keep doing what you do. make sure you get enough calories in - drumming is a lot of work - i drum too. if you are worried about it maybe you can get a heart rate monitor and check what you burn. OR drop the exercise on the days you drum? it all depends on how much time you want to spent exercising, your current fitness level, your overall goal ie do you want to sustain it, your age and health status. |

keep doing what you are doing, eventually it will change. switching up the exercise is good, i dont know what you do so cant recommend anything(maybe: HIIT or indurance, swimming, running, dance class, big hike etc etc) to kick start the metabolism again. how much are you eating and burning? have you had any days on which you ate cals at maintenance level? that helps. |

| Young Calorie Counters | Don't know what to do? | Mar 22 2009 16:33 (UTC) |

i dont know what you look like or any other history but at 5'6'' with 115lbs you must be pretty slim. also you are at the very low end of BMI. is it worth it and healthy for you to be that low? your body may not want to be that low. i suggest weights and toning; switching up exercise and type of food to keep the body challenged. are you fairly healthy? you may want to address that. |

| Weight Loss | I say you should not be taking Vitamins or Supplements! | Mar 21 2009 08:48 (UTC) |

i agree with the vitamine C BUT everyone needs to take age and life circumstances into account. many people take minerals which a different issues especially for vegetarians/vegans. ask your doctor or nutritionist. |

| Weight Loss | do you think it's ok...? | Mar 20 2009 22:54 (UTC) |

i can relate to what you say but i do think its stress and distraction more than anything. also, be careful not to get into a habit. my job is much like that all teh time, i do research and project work and sometimes work 30 hours a week and others i do 80 and have deadlines right left and centre. by all means, if you are hungry, eat! i d suggest a closer look too though. |

here is another receipe: Take 2 - 3 teaspoons raw oats (not the pre-cooked type) and crush into smaller bits, Mix with pure honey and 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar add basil or tea tree oil. After washing, drying gently by patting with a towel, apply this sticky mixture in gentle circular movements. Avoid the eye area and simialar . Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes and wash off with lots of tepid water. ...and if you dont use the oil, you can eat it after. talk about recycling, hahah..... pamper yourself if you like that kinda stuff and then enjoy youself on the beach. i second bairn's comment too |

i think using a (facial) scrub makes then seem less prominent. btw the best homemade one is salt and milk. moisturize well and then try and be proud and convidencet about who your are and all your achievements in life. convidence and a smile are attractive |

yes dont give up. every morning you get a clearn start. embrace it as a chance not a big challenge. oh and ps: drink a big class of water, if you can, 10 minutes before you, this may help stopping to overeat in 1 session |
