| Pregnancy & Parenting | Is there anyone that was on the ring and now trying to get pregnant? | Aug 23 2008 18:05 (UTC) |

i am currently on the nuva ring birth control as well. i love it. anyways i havent tried to get pregnant yet after the ring (next year maybe) but in my personal experience and many others i have know who have discontinued birth control, got pregnant w/in that month or the next. (pretty much imediately) i was on the patch at the time and decided to get pregnant-after 3 wks to a month i felt pregnant and it turned out i was 2 weeks so it really only took 2 weeks to actually conceive. although there are probably a few factors that determine when/if the individual will get pregnant. of course you still have to be ovulating for it too happen so you need to figure out when that is (7-10 days after your period ends, and sperm can live upto 4 days waiting for ovulation) so timing really matters. keep trying, when the timing is correct chances are real good, good luck on that, how exciting!!!

i just got back from a 3 day camping trip. i did pretty good (at least i maintained current wt.) i brought chicken breast/salmon/turkey hotdogs/portabello mushrooms to grill. whole wheat bread-fiber one cereal & non fat soy milk. also lots of fruits & veggies. i still had a few smores. (w/ extra dark chocolate-a tiny bit better as far as calories and anti-oxidants) low fat graham crackers and mini marshmellows i had about 2 light beers per day. over all, i would say when shopping for the food, keep your diet in mind as you normally would. find a way to exercise each day (swimming is great!) and splurge only on the beer and smores and you'll do fine. good luck!!!

| Foods | Subway Tuna eaters help!!!!!!! | Jun 29 2008 20:37 (UTC) |

i also used to ALWAYS order the tuna sub w/ salt n vinager chips (pre-diet days) it was light mayo back then tho. now, you cant even consider it as a healthy choice. it is actually one the higher calorie sandwiches they offer. it's the enemy! i just make my own and bring it to work. i only eat the subway club/wheat/no cheese/spinach & tons of veggies/mustard only. and only occasionally because the bread has way to many carbs in it (i dont like the wrap thing they offer, tastes like raw dough) it's messed up the united states promotes obesity so blatantly!!! europe has it right. you really cant eat out anywhere (very few choices) if you care about calories/low fat.

i wanted to say thank you for such valuable information, GI Jane. Really, i love these journals. i always find the knowlegable answers i am looking for. terri, me and you are almost exactly at the same place on our diet paths. (ive lost 18 lbs. 5'1'' 162.4 lbs. (goal 130 or so). good for you, keep it up, slow and steady works long term. i also strive for around 1500 mg of sodium, i heard somewhere thats about right. i sometimes go around 2300mg and get upset at my self. sodium is EVERYWHERE! and like GI said, the ONLY way to control the sodium is to avoid foods that have it-you dont have to put up with it, just pick a different brand or option that has less. i eat alot of tuna, (alot!) it has around 600mg for the whole can. thats my worst thing w/ sodium but i dont mind as it gives me 42 grams of protien w/ only 1.5 grams of fat. i do healthy choice frozens meals, and just watch the sodium in there, usually pick ones with around 300mg or so. good luck, and will power to all.

| Foods | Ramen noodles without seasoning? | Jun 22 2008 17:31 (UTC) |
|
i know you say you dont have much available right now, in that case do what you have to i guess. like they said the seasoning really only counts for the sodium part (which is a big part, since its really high) but the fat/calories will be the same. you can look at normal ramen noodles nutrition and then "add it" yourself but dont include the sodium-thats probably the only way to be very accurate. a suggestion, rice noodles are excellent. they sell them at whole foods type stores, they are pretty low in calories, fat, and carbs. i would say this is a better choice if you like noodles alot, or....whole wheat noodles?? |

I understand it's frustrating. But really, you said it yourself. Your not eating enough calories. I've had this experience in the past. if i ate less than 1200 i would not loss anything or even gain 1 lb. if i ate aroung 1400-1500 i would lose 1lb. (although you shouldn't really be weighing in daily) if your body tinks it's starving it will hold on to the food you do eat!! it wont be in burning fat mode. it's like it would hybernate. your plan of 1200-1400 is good. also all the sodium (like you said) is most likely helping you to retain most of the water you drink. it sounds like you know what the problem is. you need to be consistant, eat all your calories with the RIGHT foods (lower in sodium) do not go over (if at all possible). as long as you stick to it 97%, you will make your goal. good luck and most of all be healthy!!!! |

Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
