Weight Loss burning less calories now that I'm under 165 pounds Nov 18 2009

Have you experimented with eating the same number of calories but, more nutrient dense or filling foods? That may help you stay on the lower end of your comfortable range of calories. I try to fill up on homemade veggie soup between meals so I am not hungry between meals and keep my blood sugar very stable.

Merylwhite took the words right out of my mouth. People are so important and necessary to keep from isolating oneself.  Try maintaining friendships with a variety of ages too. Most of my really crucial friends when I had my issues were at least ten years older. Of course, young children offer a great perspective as well. But, personally, I found peers over rated compared to my older friends. At least during that difficult time when every choice i made was very crucial.

Only since you have run marathons before and not experienced this, have you started any new medications? If the rest day does not do the trick, some people find that CO-Q10 supplement helps muscles (especially if they are taking any statin drugs) But, rest is not to be overlooked either!

Certainly a loss of muscle/fitness can give you this feeling. Have you considered that maybe you just feel fatter because you are now used to this smaller size and are no longer feeling the difference between you- fatter and you- thinner? I always feel lean when I first lose weight until I get used to my new proportions.

Well, you must be at your goal weight then and are very blessed with a great metabolism. I am just curious about if she is following the suggestions of the site. So, that will be interesting to find out.

Also, healthisinplease, you said your legs have been cramping a lot and you have been fatigued. The leg cramps, for me, are always a sign that my thyroid is off. So, the suggestion you received about getting that checked is a good one.

No, I am not suggesting that an 18 year old girl eat 1400 calories a day. I am asking her what the Calorie Count site suggests for her.

1400 calories a day is far from starvation. I also have the life experience to trust what professional dietitians and doctors advise, and 1200-1400 calories a day is perfectly safe and acceptable lower limit of calories. If you do not think that the suggestions promoted by the calorie count staff are reasonable or safe then take it up with them and ask the staff dietitian. You sound young and sometimes young people base things strictly on their personal experience. That is why I ask what the calorie count site suggests as far as a calorie allowance.

What calorie allowance does Calorie Count suggest and have you tried that number? Our bodies do not always do the same math but, if you have not tried anything below 1600 and Calorie Count suggests 1400 then this may be the problem.

I have similar numbers as you do and 1600 would be the maximum number of calories I could get away with and still lose at a discernible rate. Really, 13-1400 is more like it for me if I want to see two pounds per week. What I found helped when I did weight watchers was that when I fit in all of the veggie servings per day that were required I always kept the calories down in my losing range easily and without hunger. So, filling up on spicy hot V-8 juice and salads and hot vegetables made it not nearly so difficult. Weight watchers has a great zero point vegetable soup that helps too in cold weather. Make your calories as nutrient dense as possible as well. In between meals I take spirilina capsules ( it is a seaweed that is nutrient dense and curbs the hunger and it is actually really good for most people and keeps the blood sugar stable)  All these things help to keep the calories down.

All of the suggestions and ideas are good that I am reading here. I guess if I were you I would have to at some point get a comprehensive evaluation. All our ideas might prick your intuition and give you something to try, but, the smart thing to do is to present this (and whatever other symptoms you may have that seem unrelated) to a professional health care provider of some sort. Of course, the one you choose will be important.

I agree with keldri in that it is sure serious enough to consider a drastic change in diet like eliminating sugar. Personally, I cannot sleep when I eat any sugar. It is not as bad when I do not use the bleached sugar which can cause racing thoughts in some people(the bleaching process). When I tried Ambien before it made me depressed afetr a couple weeks. You said in an earlier post that you did not want eliminating sugar(or that type of remedy) to take over your life, well, the lack of sleep certainly is already doing that! So, onward and upward. Try something new. If your doctor has no other suggestions for you then look to something natural.

If I were you I would find a competent acupuncturist. Not a chiropractor who took a weekend course but, someone who is licensed in acupuncture and has many years of experience. I have had some stunning results with a good acupuncturist, if you get a good one it can really help.

For those who want the fermentation and do not like the taste of this tea, Whole Foods also carries sauerkraut in the refrigeration section that has live cultures in it. Studies have shown this to be wonderful for you and it is pretty tasty depending on the brand. My favorite is "super sauerkraut salad".

They just look like little fish with their heads and tails cut off. They taste something like a richer version of tuna....but better. I eat mine out of the can. Sometimes with hot sauce and sometimes with plain yogurt.

Vitalchoice.com has the best sardines for sure. I have found the ones in tomato sauce are wonderful and you can always put some hot sauce on them if you want a kick. They seem high priced when you check out the website but, if you buy enough then you can get free shipping which makes it a good deal. The last time I dropped a good deal of weight was when I ate these for lunch every day with a vegetable and a dollop of plain yogurt. I like your lime idea...will try! Thanks!

twalker23 mentions a sometimes nice effect of being off caffeine....when you really need a pick me up it takes very little to give you that. my biggest motivator in staying away from caffeine is that my appatite is cut in half when i am not drinking coffee. the only times in my life i have been overweight is when i have been drinking coffee...when i go off...i lose big. some are just the opposite though. it seems that those who are sensitive to blood sugar fluctuations have the experience that i have and try to stay away from it.

the hair loss sounds like it predated the caffeine withdrawel....as far as the caffeine withdrawel goes it might take a couple weeks to level out. have you tried some dandelion tea? this seems to help me sleep and is cleansing. there is a website you may want to check out that is for a coffee substitute. it is called teecino cafe. google it. click on the info page about caffeine effects and withdrawel.

it sounds like you are on your way with increasing your activity. do not give up....you may find something you really enjoy! have you considered introducing a group walk with your friends instead of the food and wine? or, take a walk or bike ride and then have a nice meal with them. i have a group of friends who love to walk along the creek....we have done this three mile route for many years. take the lead in introducing something active and you may make this whole goal thing enjoyable as well as attainable.

how many grams of carbs are you allowed? the cherries and almonds do have some...good for you for your success so far. a really good low carb snack that i have relied on for breakfast often are the adkins advantage chocolate peanut butter bars. they only have two grams net carbs and they are very filling and high in fiber.

great idea about having a raw food day. thanks! i have also done a sort of cleanse by spending a few days eating the only two foods that i have been tested not to be allergic to. (dairy and citrus) it gives my body a break from the bloat that comes with eating "normally".

another very fast way to fix a low calorie snack is to just thaw out cooked frozen shrimp and make your own cocktail sauce for dipping. mix ketchup and horseradish in the jar to taste.

this is truly amazing....i use the already cooked shrimp that is frozen and it comes out great. it is VERY important to use fresh, not bottled, lime juice! the bottled kind is way too strong for this.i have tried it both ways and the fresh lime juice is important. this is from epicurious.com for "shrimp, tomato and olive cocktail".

Weight Loss ALWAYS hungry, what do I do? May 17 2008

i have the same problem and these are the things that help me. i once lost forty pounds simply by eliminating sugar and caffeine from my diet. caffeine, sugar and salt are huge appetite stimulants..there are new studies showing this. some good info is found at www.teecino.com. are you walking or working out? this also helps. are you on any medications? some of them will increase the appetite as well as large doses of vitamin B. a couple of suppliments that i have found helpful for blood sugar and therefore my appetite are l-glutamine and chromium picolinate as well as spirilina capsules. do some research and visit your local helath food store. increasing fiber helps too....if i am starving and want a treat i have fiber one cereal with honey clusters. it contains sugar so i consider it a treat but, it has 13 grams of fiber! the fiber one with honey clusters is the only fiber one cereal that tastes good so watch which one you buy....i have been at this a long time so if i had to give my bottom line i would say try eliminating sugar and caffeine for a week or just cutting it in half....see what happens!

i agree with the last response....in fact, one of my favorite principles to follow in life is from 1 cor. 15:33...."bad associations spoil useful habits" unless you have a very strong leader personality, if you want your life to change your friends should as well...you are smart and mature for realizing your need to back off from them. your commitment to your health is commendable!
