Man, I love love love Korean food. I'm mostly maintaining my weight now, so I'm not as strict as I used to be but one thing you should be careful of is the sodium content in the food. Even the kimchi has TONS of sodium in it. Just be sure to drink lots of water. I do Jillians 30 Day Shred video as well as run. I just got back actually so other than walking around a lot haven't found my workout routine. Congrats wagu. Man, I wish I could be the kind of person that just drops weight without trying. Way to go! |

Hi! I'm in South Korea right now. I'm in Bundang, on the yellow line. When I moved to Korea I gained weight. Despite all the walking around, I was also drinking so much and eating tons and tons of rice. Last year though, I decided to get serious and I dropped a bunch of weight. It can be done, you just have to be careful. The good thing is that fruits and vegetables are cheap so eating healthy is easy! Let me know if you have any specific questions about losing weight or just general living in Korea. Good luck! |

Wow. I am a woman and I've gotten the same quesitons about my lifestyle. I travel, a lot. I actually haven't really had much of a permanent address for 4 years. When I do come home to visit, my great grandmother asks me, "How are you going to find a husband if you keep moving?". Really, I don't really want one. My friends don't understand it, because they're all getting married and buying houses, having babies, planning retirement. I'm 27! I figure, if that's something I eventually do want, it'll be there later. I think you'll find that you meet a lot of people whilst traveling. And you'll meet the kind of people you can relate to, and if you want, therefore a girl who shares your passion. Side note: culinary anthropologist = AWESOME. I studied anthro in university and along with travel is one of my favourite things as well. Good luck on the travels! |

Ugh, comments like "You'd be hot if you lost some weight" are what I used to hear as well. It really took the wind out of me. I had a situation that was almost exactly like the OP's. I was 160, 5 ft 4. The guy said he "overlooked" my weight because I was so nice and fun. Eventually, I caught him telling other people that if I just lost the weight I'd be the perfect girl for him. Guys like this aren't worth your time. If you think you need to lose weight, do it for you. Rubbing it in his face is a bonus. |

I agree with sarah. Before I lost weight, I thought I looked good! Now, I am very critical of myself. As women we sometimes think, we have to be perfect. Having such an accomplishment can maybe make us feel that we can do it. Think of how much you've done. You're way healthier than you were before. Maybe your mind just has to catch up with your body. |

I love, love, love Greece! One of my favourite places to travel. I agree with pgeorgian, Athens at the beginning and end is a good idea. I personally, would not skip Crete. I'm an archaeology buff, however, so to me it's madness to miss Knossos. I also loved the vibe of the island. I also spent time in Paros, Mykonos and Santorini (along with Crete). Santorini is a must. There's nothing to complain about there. I liked Mykonos and Paros was a more relaxed island. Be prepared to be offered lots of free wine/raki/ouzo when you're shopping local shops. That happened to me, at least. I'm so jealous. My boyfriend and I were just at a Greek restauarant last night (in Greektown, Toronto) and we were discussing going back there. Lucky you! |

Original Post by krrpt08: Hmm. I don't want to scare you, but awhile ago my credit card company called me telling me I had to cancel my credit card due to fraud. They said that my number had been compromised and I asked them how they knew. They said that the person/people had tried to use my credit card overseas to make a donation. I guess that's how some people do it. They make small donations to see if they can get away with it, and then go for something bigger. I'm Canadian, but it could still be a similar situation. |

Hi there, Just thought I'd bump this up for you a little bit. Though I personally am not dealing with depression, my father also deals with Bipolar Disorder and what you mentioned surrounding the eating/binging really hit home. I think it's a great idea for a group, and I would love to help offer any kind of support that I can! |

hey erin, I wish that I had some helpful words for you but I do know how you feel! My boyfriend of 2 years is a snorer as well. It totally sucks. I feel so bad nudging him in the night because, like you said, it's not his fault but it's SO frustrating when you're not getting your sleep. I'm nervous because right now we don't live together but are looking for an apartment together. His snoring is made worse when he's sick or has had a few to drink. A long time ago, I did have him 'trained' to not snore. It took a lot of soft nudges in the night that didn't really wake him, but stopped his snoring. After he went on vacation though, he came back in full force and he's been snoring ever since. I don't know what to say to you! I'm going to watch this thread to see if anyone has any suggestions. Good luck! I guess just try to go to sleep before him. Sometimes there's a position where they don't snore as much. I find when he spoons me, he's less likely to snore. Try that maybe? |

Glad to hear that everyone is motivated! I got on the scale yesterday and apparently eating lobster dripping with butter, scallops deep-fried in butter, drinking tons of local beer and doing no excercise DIDN'T cause any weight gain! wtf?! How did that happen? I got on the scale yesterday and I was the same when I left. I'm not complaining but do think I'm a little out of shape. I went for a run and today am so sore! I'm usually never sore from running. Ah well! jinderbitzen: of course you can join. I see no problems with that at all. The more the merrier! I'm the around the same height as you but my goal is a little higher than you. I am happy being anywhere in the 120's. I'm pretty much there and am mostly maintaining now though I wouldn't mind dropping a couple more. I like having some of my curves, and so does my boyfriend! I also started off bigger than you at around 162. Sounds like you excercise lots! If you gained most of your weight back quickly at Christmas I find that it usually comes off quickly with a little dedication. You may want to up your calories a bit. You sound a little active and 1200 is always the minimum that you should have, and most girls need more. I actually think that part of the reason why I didn't gain is that I was restricting too much before my trip. It's hard to get that into your head, though.

Hi nycgirl! Welcome back. Glad to hear you're back on the wagon. I've been MIA as well. I'm visiting with my boyfriend and his family on PEI and to welcome me they've been feeding me large amounts of lobster, potato salad and scallops! I think I've gained around 3 pounds as well but am heading to my natural habitat on Tuesday so I'm hoping to be back on the wagon there with you! Until then, I'm enjoying my vacation.

This video is tough and it really works. Just stick with it and you will see results. You should just switch levels when you're brave enough. If it's too hard, just go back down. I find there's a steep learning curve. Once you get into the swing of things it does get a lot easier, believe it or not! |

Hey ladies, Noone has written in this thread in a long time so I thought I'd write to bring it back and also to say that I reached my min-goal! I saw 129.9 on the scale today when I woke up. I'm pretty pumped especially since I've been partying so much lately, and eating lots since I got back to Canada around Christmas time. It feels good! How is everyone doing? |

Hey girls, Just checking in. I've been avoiding CC and the scale for the same reasons as before. cbridge, i really wish i had your problem! We have the same goals, too. I haven't been able to excercise all week due to plans and errands and it seems like every night someone wants to go grab food or drinks. It really doesn't help with the weigh-ins in the morning. I'm just going to try to do my best around christmas when I get home. Sigh. |

Hey ladies, cbridge- great job! you seem to be the only one among us who is getting closer to the goal. i myself have stopped trying, but am mostly just trying not to gain too much with all these festivities before i go home. way to go! vinaloo- do you know where you're going to travel? that's awesome news! congratulations! i did really great at running last week, but skipped saturday-monday. i just went out today because the weather was a little nicer. my goal is to keep up the excercise at least if i can't keep up the eating. i still have that chocolate cake in my fridge and have been having a piece each day. i feel bad throwing it out because my bf was so SWEET and because it was so expensive. i've given some of it away, though. friday night is my going away party too! man.. birthday parties, going away parties, coming home parties, christmas parties then new years parties! aish!! hey, at least i ran into a girl the other day and she said i looked thinner than the last time i saw her! you girls rock! keep it up! |

hey guys, just popping in for a few comments before i begin my birthday bonanza. last night my bf made me vietnamese food and got me a birthday cake made entirely of brownies! he also bought me a new 16G ipod nano. so though my tummy is a little sore my heart is full as well :) i don't even feel bad about it. nycgirl- sorry to hear you have the blues. do you maybe have SADD? perhaps getting outside and getting as much sun as you can will help. or eating foods high in vitamin D? i know you're not totally happy with your weight right now and that we all have different goals, but 105 is still low. a weight so many people would be happy to be. i weigh 25 pounds more than you! just go out and work out a little if you can. go for walks. incorporate some healthy foods with your unhealthy ones. if there is other stuff other than the weather that is causing the blues we are here for that too. don't worry, we're all here for you! cbridge- good for you on the spinning. i was going to work out today but am opting to not because i didn't get any sleep and haven't taken a day off of excercise in a couple of weeks. way to you you! oh, and chocolate covered raisins sound AWESOME |

congrats cbridge! any progress is progress.. and sometimes you just need to see ANYTHING lower.. even .1 pounds sometimes :) I've had quite the binge day. I had 2 lattes at starbucks before work. After work I had bibimbap (basically tons of rice and veggies) and then a BIG BAG of chips. The chips were almost 600 calories. I really don't know what got into me. It is TTOTM and my birthday is coming up. I'm also stressed about leaving Korea. In my mind I rationalized it that I won't be able to enjoy any of this stuff in two weeks so I should indulge now. That's true, and even after the food I do agree but now I'm left with a tummy ache. I guess I indulged too much. Perhaps I've been restricting too much? To top it all off, I couldn't go running today because of the icy rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be -8 and my boyfriend is cooking me sodium filled pho for my birthday. THEN Saturday we're going out for Bulgarian food and drinks with friends. I feel like I can't even try to make up for tonight. Sorry for the rant. I know that some things are more important than dieting, and I'm not really trying to lose much more I'm just having a hard time staying motivated. Should I just give up trying and go back at it when I'm in Canada in 3 weeks? |

i don't have a BSW but i have an undergrad in anthropology and did a post graduate diploma is social service work. UBC said i had everything i need so i'm just seeing if i get in. sucks that i don't find out until spring. i'm doing the 2 year program. not sure if i'm going to opt for the thesis yet or not. i'm actually torn between mental health and immigrants/refugees. my father has been in and out of hospitals so mental health is an important issue to me. i also loved working with newcomers. i may combine those two issues. eventually i would like to get into some private practice (when i'm older). what kind of research are you focusing on? |

Hey guys, I'm doing alright over here. I've managed to go running for the past 5 days and feel great because of it. I'm supplimenting it with level 3 of Jillian. It is my birthday on Saturday so I'm not going to even pretend I'm going to behave. I will eat every brownie I see and drink every long island ice tea in the room! vnaloo- glad you're finally getting over the sickness. 7 pounds does sound like a lot! i hope you weren't THAT sick. don't restrict to keep those pounds off, please take care of yourself! i say take a couple of days of rest and see how you feel after that. it will be better in the long run. cbridge - i eat around 1300-1600 on days when i'm not cheating (most weekends!). i am not a big meat eater (just chicken and fish) so i don't find it hard to stay within that range as a lot of veggies have just a few calories. do you like sweet potatoes? i find they help with my carb craving but are also really healthy. i also stopped trying to restrict carbs so much. i allow myself a sandwich everyday and the bread hasn't negatively affected anything. i think you just have to really plan your meals. i cook my meals a day in advance, and though i know not everyone has the time for it, i find that i'm less likely to cheat that way and go for what's easiest and usually less healthy. i'm glad people are still posting here! i was getting worried :) |

Hey! I just finished my applications for my MSW hopefully beginning in September 2009. I only had one year of field experience working at a center that specialized in aiding newcomers (immigrants and refugees) in Canada before moving to South Korea. My plan is to move back in a few weeks, get some work or volunteer and then begin the program.
Thanks! |

Yikes well I went out last night and I don't even want to think about my calorie intake. I did well and ran, and didn't end up gaining from Friday night but last night leaves me feeling nervous! Went to Indian Buffet with my boyfriend and though I didn't eat to the point of feel sick I still ate A LOT. Then we went out for drinks and I had vodka cranberries all night. It was all you can drink! I had to get my money's worth! Then we ate street food after including schwarmas. YUM! Needless to say I'm feeling quite sluggish today. I'm still going to go for a run and then some shopping. I'm also going to steer away from the hangover greasy food and eat veggies all day and whole grains. The good thing is, is that I went shopping yesterday and fit into some clothes that I totally didn't think that I would. I also got hit on a lot at the bar. It was kind of annoying but good for the ego. Boyfriend didn't like it that much, though! Warbler, I think you should totally up your calories or lower your excercise. After a few weeks of not losing anything but I knew I was eating great and excercising a lot, I decided to cut out running for a week and a few extra pounds just melted off with me doing NOTHING. I was loving it! It was the no excercise diet. I think I was burning too much and taking in too little. Give it a try, and even if you do gain, it won't be real weight because I'm sure you'll still have a deficit. Good luck! |

Hey all, How's everyone doing? Maybe noone is posting because of Thanksgiving in the States! Doing well over here, got m weight down yesterday but went out last night. I may be heading to a battle of the bands tonight with all you can drink liquor! I indulged in a piece of pizza yesterday (boo!) but have run twice this week and as soon as I drag myself out of bed will go again today. Is anyone any closer to their goal? Welcome cbridge! When you're young that's the best time to make the change. Being healthy is the best feeling ever. Good luck! |
