Young Calorie Counters Ideal Weight! Aug 26 2008

My mom's a nurse..she always said you start at five feet with 100 pounds and add five pounds for every inch. it makes sense to me and sounds about right.

really i think it's just where you're comfortable and where you're healthy. not by weight but if you've got good vitamin levels, iron levels, you're not tired, you're energetic, you're getting enough sleep, eating lots of fruit and veggies and good carbs, and exercising as often as you possibly can. and also where you feel good. =)

i think my ideal weight is somewhere around 118-125 [that's a big margin but any time i was in that weight range i felt good about myself and my body].

i'm at 145 right now, but i'm only planning on getting down to 130. I have a chest for the first time, YAY, and I've always had a butt and curvy legs [although they're picking up more tone now, and i barely have any cellulite].

i mostly want to get rid of a lot of the fat around my middle, i have like three or four inches worth from belly button-widest part of my hips that are extra.

so I'm gonna say my ideal weight is anywhere from 120-130. i'll always be short [5'4] and curvy. but i want to feel fit and healthy too, and cut out all the excess fats.

Young Calorie Counters Teens wanting to lose 25 to 35 lbs by Christmas Aug 26 2008

hey guys,

mind if i join in? I know I'm a little late, but I've got the same goal. =)

age: 16

current weight: 145

goal weight: 130

first goal: 140

i'm starting slow, i'm going by goals of five pounds. i originally started losing weight earlier this summer but i backslid bad after losing about five pounds. i was so annoyed with myself. i haven't been under 130 in almost a year, now, but i know if i let myself go on eating badly like this much longer i'm gonna be caught in a cycle.

also, i don't know if any of you happen to have this in common, but I have Crohn's disease. So far it hasn't given me any trouble, thank goodness.

I run two miles almost every day, but because my calories are usually way out of line i never lose weight [although i have gained more definition in other areas]. i'm taking up jump roping starting this week [burns 950 calories an hour, wow] and might throw in biking and stuff. mostly, besides just losing weight, i want to gain a lot of muscle tone and definition.

I'm hoping to reach 140 by early-mid september.

I have the same problem...for me it can be even worse, 'cause I'll sit and pull out handfuls instead of using a bowl, so I can't even measure how much i've eaten! >_<

I think I'm going to switch breakfast foods. I'm out of my favorite cereal now because I've been eating too much, so it might be a good time to experiment with fruit or something other than cereal for breakfast. it's just too tempting, ugh.

Health & Support Preparing for a colonoscopy - low residue diet May 30 2008

I'm sixteen and had a colonoscopy/endoscopy six months ago, when I was fifteen [so it may be a little different for me than it is for you, since i'm younger, but probably the basics are still there]

just a word of comfort: the prep is the worst part. drinking the nasty stuff, feeling like you cannot drink any more of it, wanting to spit it back up....it's bad. The drug they put you on is Versed, usually, which is just a drug that keeps you awake but makes you forget everything....I remember it being like a blur, a whirlwind around me, and then it was over. by the time i had my procedure i wasn't eating much anyway, my Crohn's disease was pretty bad and I was nauseous the whole time...I'd recommend starting the prep early, unless you already have really good bowel movements/your bowels generally behave well. ;) don't go contrary to the doctor, of course, but I recall having difficulty getting the initial bowel movement to come out.

by the time you stop having bowel movements it's basically water and it feels very weird, but at the end you will have nice pictures of your lovely colon [hopefully squeaky clean.] I named mine, since it's given me so much trouble.Laughing

his name is Eustace the colon, and he is behaving pretty well these days. You people probably think I'm crazy, naming my organs and stuff, but you know...what else can you do?

good luck with your procedure, I'm sure it will go well. :)

The Lounge dating a heavier girl/lighter guy May 30 2008

I'm a teenager, so guys are almost always gonna be lighter than me, unless they're football players...and i prefer the intellectual types, so they're usually lightweights. Wink

but i don't mind the weight difference, really. i mean, at my most self conscious, it makes me feel a little funny, and I prefer the medium guys as opposed to the super skinny ones, but i'm not too picky.

i'm more about looks than weight, necessarily. as far as height goes, tall guys make me feel short/cute [i'm 5'4. not exactly short, but not tall, and i have a lot of guy friends over 6'] and guys closer to my height are okay too. guys shorter than me make me feel tall, so i'm usually not as big a fan of it.

Weight Loss What kind of "eater" are you ? May 29 2008

Original Post by fyrfli:

i eat to enjoy, if it isnt very good i have no problem not eating much of it.... but if it is REALLY good i have a hard time telling myself to stop.... i have to remind myself that some things taste better the 2nd day (and that is what i normally order at a restaurant, foods that r better later)... Tho rich food, like ice cream i can only take in small doses, same with strong flavors like dark chocolate a tiny bar will last me 2 or 3 days (i take a tiny bit and let it melt mmm!).

this is me, pretty much.

I have no trouble not finishing things if I get bored with food. but some food it is impossible to truly get bored with....and I eat way too much.

I'm a weird eater, mostly, though. I eat pretty random stuff from day to day, hardly ever the same thing [except breakfast, which is always honey nut cheerios].

Young Calorie Counters How did YOU excercise today? May 29 2008

no dance class today, I went walking/jogging/sprinting today for two miles [I walk, jog, and sprint alternately. it's fun. people at the park look at me funny. :P] and had the warm up walk there and the cool down walk home.

On different days I dance to music, take a ballet class, do ab workouts, or jump rope and ride bike if it's getting late and I can't go run. try to mix it up. :)

Maintaining small frame, healthy weight...belly fat?? May 15 2008

thanks for the links and tips!

the diet link made a lot of sense to me and fits right in with what my doctor has said.

I've been meaning to talk to the doc about this particular problem..I will be seeing him sometime the end of this month, though, so I'll question him about it then.

I do exercise. I'm a dancer, and dance three-four times a week, and I run almost every day that I don't dance, for about an hour and a half.

I do ab workouts [not heavy intense workouts, just enough to feel the burn] every night. I have trouble focusing the work on my lower abs, which could be part of the problem.

Young Calorie Counters do your parents eat like you? May 14 2008

my parents eat okay. one thing I love about my parents is they taught me the importance of balanced meals: you have the starch, the veggies, and the meat. they all work together for you.

we never ate a lot of fast food..my mom likes some junk food [cookies, chips, etc.] and sometimes she eats low quality lunch meat :shudders: but other than that it's pretty good. our family's problem with keeping weight on is that we drink too much sweet tea [in the south, what can you do? sigh.] and generally need more work on portion control. my sisters and i weren't like obese kids though, so it wasn't too bad. we don't usually eat too much chocolate or sweet stuff, although with three daughters and no boys, the occasional late night pan of brownies was an occasional occurrence.
