Check out www.crossfit.com , it is a total body workout. There are videos to show you the excercises and the excercises allow you to improvise. Pretty much all you need is a couple wieghts and even just a broom stick.

good luck

I eat 3 regular meals a day plus a snack mid morning and mid afternoon. If I go for my run before supper I usually have a banana, or a peanut butter sandwich. After my run I will have a small snack ie. granola bar piece of fruit. My usual intake of calories usually ranges from 1800 to 2100. Also I drink about 2 to 3 750ml bottles of water per day.

I was told by a trainer, crunches will firm your stomach but only the muscles, you have to burn off any fat by doing cardio (ie: running (best way). cycling, etc.

I too am trying to get some abs and I can see and feel a difference in my stomach already from running 5km (3miles) every day.

Good luck

Fitness Training for Half Marathon; what food do I eat? Aug 08 2008

So far the training is going great, I am up to running between 6 and 8km at an easy pace (8.5km/h). I get the odd sore muscle mainly in my shins, but once I get going the soreness eases off. I think as long as I keep doing what an doing with stretches and warm-ups for the next 4 weeks I should be good to go for the big run.

Hey everyone, thanks for the continued advice. I started my training  yesterday on the treadmill at the gym (because of the humidity outside). I was able to go for 5.2km at 7.30min/km pace. I really surprised myself, I am not doing this race for competition I know I am not ready for that yet. I will most likley walk/run the race but if I can run it at an easy pace and finish great but I dont want to kill myself my job depends on my physical ability. Keep the support and adve coming

The reason I want to run Sept 21, is that it is the Army Run in Ottawa. My unit is paying for the personnel who would like to compete. However if I feel in about 4 weeks that I am unable to complete the 13.1, I will take my name from the Half Marathon and see if I can run in the 5k instead, it is not worth seriously injuring myself.  I start my training schedule today with a 3.25km easy run. Here we go. Keep the advice and the support coming I can use it. Thanks

Well I had a great vacation I loved the time away from home and work. I started off my vacation by running every couple days it was going great. It got very busy when it got closer to the wedding we went for. My running ceased for the rest of my vacation, I drank more beer than I should of that 4 days. But the good news is that I walked A LOT when we were in Toronto for 3 days. I was so tried when we got back to the Hotel after sightseeing I didnt got up to the fitness room like I should of. Now I am back to my starting weight on this site of 225lbs, so now I am back home and back to work it is time to crack down and actually lose this weight once and for all.

Well I weighed myself this morning and I am down 1 more pound. My vacation starts tomorrow and we head on the road tomorrow night. I am really looking forward to this, I want to surprise myself and drop atleast 5 pounds in the next 2 weeks.

I am fighting really bad chin splints right now, but I keep pushing through until I finish my run.

I agree with everyone, Reese Pieces are so very unhealthy, CC should recommend a Dark Chocolate bar such as Hershey Dark Almond.  I notice that too that it make recommendations totally out to lunch sometimes.

Fitness Morning run... motivation?! Jun 03 2008

Hi there, I too have started running in the morning. I do find it harder to do in the morning since my body is still in sleep mode. Some mornings I am up as soon as the alarm goes off other times I stay in bed for an extra half hour, but I do get up and put my clothes on, drink a glass of water I always start my run off with atleast a 2-3min walk to get my body in the mode. Right now I am fighting some bad shin splints, but I am still getting out there and going even if it takes me longer. My motivation for doing this is that I have the rest of the time when I get home after work to do whatever I want. Also I feel that much better afterwards and the shower feels that much more refreshing. If you have anymore running questions feel free to ask, I have books on running.

Fitness Running Question May 29 2008

I am a beginner runner as well, and you have to remember one big thing; learn to walk before you run. Take atleast 6 weeks and WALK. After 6-8 weeks do this :

Week 1: Walk 2min Run 2min - 5 times

Week 2: Walk 2min Run 3min-  5 times

Week 3: Walk 1min Run 4min-  5 times

Week 4: Walk 1min Run 5min-  5 times

Week 5: Walk 1min Run 6min-  5times

Week 6: Walk 2min Run 10min- 2times

after 6 weeks you should be able to run about 10mins straight no problems once you are comfortable doing 10 min increase your time by aleast 2 min (remember to walk for atleast 1 min in between.

I found a couple websites that help www.runnersworld.com and www.runningroom.com .

If you have a runningroom in your area go there, they are great for helping you get started.

I started doing the the 2 and 2 now I run for about 30min straight 4.5km or 3miles

Good Luck

Hey Congratulations on your decision to become healthier, I found a website that calculates your BMR http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators /basal/basal.html

Also I went and had a Body Composition done at my gym it told me my percentage of good and bad body fat, also it gives you a really good indication of what your goal weight should be. Good luck and stick with it.

I know that here at CFB Gagetown, any one who has a rec membership has access to this service. If your husband is Canadian Military than I would imagine he has a family package at the base fitness center. Otherwise I would call the fitness center at your husbands base.
