Weight Loss Does shoe size change with weight loss? Jul 27 2009

I lost between 1-1.5 shoe sizes in the 40+ lbs that I lost, but that could be because I had particularly chubby feet!  I wouldn't worry about it now, in 30 lbs, get yourself a new pair of shoes if they're too big - we all lose from different spots in different patterns, so you may lose a shoe size, you may not.

The Lounge may have swallowed tiny piece of glass. SUPER PARANOID! suggestions. Jun 19 2009

Well, I know that when dogs eat sharp things, I've been told to give them cotton balls soaked in beef broth.  The cotton gets trapped around the sharp object, and seems to pass without injury apparently... but then the cotton gets stuck in the dog's bum and his poop chases him and he gets scared...

I wouldn't recommend that in your situation.

All kidding aside - are you feeling any stomach pains, have you already gone to the washroom since you ingested the dip?  Any blood in your stool? Your best bet to be on the safe side would be to just toss the rest of the dip.  I can't imagine an eensie-weensie piece of glass would do much damage, but I'm not a doctor.  I'd say if you're seriously concerned, speak to a doctor (or if you're in Canada, call telehealth).

Weight Loss Dieting a blow to self-esteem? Anyone else experience this? Jun 12 2009

I do find my self esteem has plummeted since I've started losing weight.  I get a lot of compliments at work (especially recently all of a sudden - isn't that weird how that happens?) but don't like at ALL what I see in the mirror (espec. naked).

I think that part of it is because we're focusing on losing weight, we're also that much more focused on our bodies than we were before.  We're noticing pockets of flab here and there that we maybe overlooked before, or are more noticable now that other areas have shrunk.  We're focusing on the negative because that's what we want to remove, rather than the positives we were (sometimes desperately, in my case) focusing on in the past to make us feel better, or that people commented on because our bodies were not "complimentable" (not a word, I know) at the time.  "Oh, you have beautiful hair!"  "I love those shoes!" - so we focus on having great hair, and fab shoes because that is what people are noticing and pointing out.

Just my 2 cents I guess.

I can't remember what I paid at the store, but I'd make sure that what you're getting at GNC is just plain 'ol Soy Protein Powder, and not a shake mix, just containing soy protein.  I don't think the powder I got was overly expensive, but I'll price it the next time I'm out :)

I hug my dog, and take him for a nice long walk.  I remind myself that no matter how big I am, how many zits pop up that day, or what I ate, my dog adores me, and wants nothing more than to be WITH me, doing anything.  Making him happy, makes me happy, which makes me take care of myself :)

I'm not sure about whey protein, but I use soy protein powder (just plain) from the natural store nearby, and add it to my baking by replacing some of the flour with it.  Hikes up the protein quite nicely - I make banana muffins that are like 17g protein, which I don't think is bad for a muffin!

Weight Loss Almost at your goal? What do you see when you look in the mirror? May 03 2009

I've lost just over 40 lbs, and still see the same fat girl in the mirror that I saw at 203 lbs when I started on CC a year ago, and yet the same fat girl that hit 226 lbs after college... I know I'm smaller, i'm fitting into smaller sizes.  God forbid though that I have to see myself naked in a mirror *shudder*.  I hate the way I look, and I'm pretty convinced I won't be happy when I reach my (first) goal in 14 lbs... Too bad there isn't "reality therapy" for people who have lost a significant amount of weight!

Health & Support Anyone else have a goal weight that still leaves their BMI in the "overweight" category? Apr 26 2009

Hi "twin" lol.  Last year at this time, I was 203lbs... I'm just over 5'2, and my goal weight is also 150 lbs... at my doctor's recommendation.

She assured me that 150 is an acceptable weight for my build, and if I was capable, and comfortable losing more from there, that's good too.  Mind you, I have never had any kind of health problems associated with my weight (caught it in time I hope!)

I'm at 164 now... 14 lbs to go, and will re-evaluate when I get there.  I did hit 135 once in high school, but remember what a struggle it was to get there, and I was working out 21 or more hours a week because I was rowing!

Calorie Count Internet Keeps Hanging...but only on CC Apr 26 2009

I was having the same problem, but ONLY with a certain ad... I can't remember who it was for (great advertising...) only that it was red, and was listing names of companies this company has done something for.  EVERY TIME this ad came up, CC would freeze.  Took me 7 minutes to log an egg the other day.

Haven't seen the ad in a bit though, fingers crossed.

Edited April 28:  The ad is back... it's for SAPIENT, and actually makes my browser unresponsive while it's flipping through it's little commercial.

I went shopping after I'd lost abbout 30 lbs.  I got a new job where I needed to "look the part" so to speak, and my 5-7 sizes too big pants weren't cutting it any more ;)  I've gone from a 16/18 to a 12/11 depending on the clothing item, and dropped a size in my tops as well.

Stonemill sprouted 12 grain bread

Salmon and other fresh fish

Real  maple syrup

Organic milk

Organic yogurt

Tenderloin

Organic, 85% cocoa chocolate (the price keeps me from eating too much of it!)

Fresh veggies and fruit - never canned or frozen (only frozen berries if they're not in season)

Pure "just peanuts" organic PB

...slowly we're making our way towards a predominantly organic diet.  Will get easier with the farmer's coop this spring and summer!

Trade ya!  my 87lb German Shepherd also tries to do this...loves to lay on my back and sniff my hair as I'm doing planks and bridges (which, obviously, I can't do with him on me!).  He also thinks it's his duty to stand over me while I'm doing my core workout and stare me in the face.  Hard to do crunches when you're giggling.

I have a few pictures under my clear desk blotter... many people's desks are VERY cluttered, which I hate.  I like having a lot of space to spread my papers out... luckily, I have a lot of desk anyway, so it's not really an issue.

I'm sure I'll find something nifty to add some pizzaz!

Original Post by susyvr77:

HAHA! I sooo agree with this, I once read in a magazine (cant recall exactly which one) that eating food smothered in lemon would cut its calories in half. Its like society as a whole refuses to believe that losing weight is as simple as calories in/calories out.

...well what to do but keep hearing all the nonsensicle jibber jabber

... that would probably work because you'd be so disgusted at your soggy, lemon coated cheeseburger, you'd only get through half ;)

Fitness Anyone on their journey with out the use of a gym? Apr 03 2009
03:23 (UTC)
9

I've lost 36.5 lbs so far, and between 4-6 pant sizes, without touching a gym.  I have an eliptical, but didn't get that until January.  I've been doing "on-demand" body weight strength videos on cable (some use hand weights as well), I use my eliptical when the weather is poor, or I'm short on time.  Otherwise, I'm running (finally up to 4.5 km!) or biking outside... even just walking the dog burns a hefty amount of calories :)

It IS possible, and I've had better results WITHOUT the gym, than I did during my last attempt, where, like you, I threw money at them every month and got nothing out of it.

The Lounge Kids At The Gym Apr 02 2009

I'd quit the gym if it became that big an issue.  I would also read through your membership agreement (if you have one) and read anything in there about bringing "your own" children to the gym, and the "rules" for that.  I'd bet somewhere it's indicated they are not to be playing on the equipment.  If need be, you might be able to get out of your contract (again, if you have one) if they've broken their own agreement.

As someone who has worked in Child Welfare, I find it highly concerning that these kids are left to their own devices, around equipment that can be dangerous to ADULTS, let alone little ones who don't know to keep their fingers out of places, and not try and pick up 30lb weights etc...

Weight Loss Calorie burn for bike correct? Apr 02 2009
01:02 (UTC)

I can give you a good example of how far the machines can be off (especially if you can't enter your stats).  My eliptical, for a 5k program (which I do at resistances of 3/4/8/4/3 for 1000m each) says I burn close to 1500 calories.  In reality (or closer to, anyway) my HRM says I burned around 685.  Still nothing to sneeze at, but a HUGE difference.

If you can afford it, a HRM is a wonderful investment.  I've found mine to be a huge help.

Maintaining When do you consider your goal reached? Apr 01 2009
12:22 (UTC)
8

I consider the goal reached once I've reached it, and maintained it for at least a day or 2 throughout the course of that week.

I know my weight can fluctuate wildly over a few days, so if, for example my goal is 160 (which my next one is!)  Once I've had the scale tell me 160 more than once that week, I pretty well convince myself that the scale isn't lying, I'm not dehydrated, I've actually reached that weight :)

(but I still do a little dance when I see it the first time!)

I'm so proud of you (and I don't even know you!) for having such a great self image...I'm also a little jealous ;)

Even when I was younger, rowing for my highschool, and weighed 135 lbs (didn't get there healthily, mind you, but I had a LOT of muscle on my little 5'2 frame) I was convinced I was huge.  I look back at pictures and think "what was I thinking".  I look at my cellulite free thighs and sigh in envy.

I hope I can get where you are one day :)  I'm 5'2 and a 12-13 now (whoo!) down from a 16-18, but I'm not going to lie - I'd like to see maybe a size 10.
