People here give very inconsistent answers because they don't really know the science behind most of what they say. A good biochemistry book would suffice. |

Original Post by floggingsully: As much as I enjoy making fun of people in their worse hour, I'm assuming that sadafkhan14 actually needs help. sadafkhan14, I suggest you don't weight yourself for about two weeks, and cut down on your salt consumption. Also, switch to whole wheat rice and bread, and try drinking more water because like g.i. Jane says: a lot of that weight could be water retention. If you feel like binging, binge on fruits and vegetables, and then turn to fattening things, so that you eat less of that. Of course, you need to control any binging urges, but you might as well satiate your needs with the healthier things first. And, please, don't pay attention to comments like the one by floggingsully: some people become so pedantic and obnoxious when they learn to control their eating that they lose sight of what it is to be human. Don't fret, that weight can be lost; just don't become desperate and try to achieve the unachievable.
EDIT: I completely agree with the post below this one. Look, sadafkhan14, I went through a very similar situation about 5 years ago, and I convinced myself and that was not the time to worry about my weight. You can lose the weight any time; right now, worry about your feelings, worry about getting to a better place. That weight will come off once you feel happy and stable. If this is a very difficult moment for you, don't be hard on yourself. |

I wouldn't increase a lot, if I were you. One sure way to know if your metabolism is "slowed" (whatever simplistic meaning people give to that) is if you feel less energetic, more lethargic. If this is so, then you should eat more, but if you can still do your exercises and feel fine, you are eating enough and should only continue your diet until a change happens. Don't freak out and don't be discouraged. You're 36 years old, which could explain why your body takes longer to lose weight, since you metabolism does become slower with age. It all depends on your height too, as you can imagine, because 1750 Calories is NOT eating little at all, but again, height is a factor. And even though feeling cold could be a sign of slow metabolism, it could also be a sign, like you mentioned, of less insulation. I'm very small, and I'm able to lose 2-3 pounds per week, eating normally (just no sweets) which I would think would make me a person with "fast" metabolism. I'm always cold, but that's because I am small, and don't have much fat. |

Cuban food (fried pieces of pork, white rice and beans, all seasoned with mojito, which is this sauce usually made with garlic, onions, a lot of olive oil, and lime AND fried plantains). *sigh* I was raised on this stuff. Chocolate chip cookies. Moist chocolate cake. Ben and Jerry's Creme Brule ice cream. Chinese food: the unhealthier, the better. Pizza with LOTS of cheese.

:) I have a problem with not liking big butts... or maybe it's that I don't think a big butt looks good on me. Right now my butt is a bit too big. What I did to lose that weigh was to stop eating too much sugar. I love my coffee and milk in the mornings, with lots of sugar, after I stopped that, the weight went down. I just have it once a week, that's fine with me. I think it's the thin genes from my mom's side. It's strange to see a Cuban lady with such thin genes, but I was lucky to get them. |

I don't know how much experience you have only being 15, but anyway, I'll speak to you as I would speak to the 15-year-old me. He probably does like you because the "you might want to sit by me..." sounds as if he is making sure to persuade you in advance, so that it will turn out as he wants it to. Look, people are simple, the only thing that you MUST do is listen to them, look at how the talk, how the move, all of these details give you clues into their personalities. If you like his clues then perhaps you should give the relationship a shot. I don't know how far away he'll go to college, but if it's too far then it would be unrealistic to start the relationship now. Long-distance relationships usually only work when they've built their foundations at a short-distance level, and among older, more mature people. I'm not implying you're immature, but the way one thinks at 15 varies greatly from the way one thinks at 25 (or hopefully, it does... unless you're an incredibly-mature 15-year old). If his college is not far away, then you could talk to your mom, and reasonably explain to her that you like the boy and you would like to start going out with him from time to time. And by reasonably I mean no tantrums, no screaming: just imagine you're a grown-woman and you're talking to another grown-woman.

I'm sorry to say this, but 1 pound is ALWAYS 3500 calories. Just like 1 foot is 12 inches, it's that kind of conversion. This is NOT an average. The way your body breaks breaks down fat/ builds muscle is just an observation and an average, but 1 pound is always 1 pound and 3500kilocalories are ALWAYS 3500kilocalories: and they're both the same. |

I'm 4'11'' and 106lb. I've felt my best at 90. I don't know my measurements, I just know, I wear size 1. I'm 21, so I guess that because of my age - genes also help, I'm sure - I can lose weight very quickly: I went from 120 to 106 in three weeks, and that was eating normally; now I'm trying to lose those last 16 pounds. |

Original Post by mysticjbyrd: What do you mean by "placebo"? A placebo is a substance or activity given to a patient as medicine, but which in reality has no therapeutic advantage. It only works because the person thinks it will. I would imagine that if the British Medical Journal indicates that the pills do indeed help lose weight, they're not placebo. |

Original Post by roj47: Let's remember some people are not as knowledgeable about nutrition as Roj47 the Almighty, and they're not here to be judged. Mike, I think you should input your information on your Tools (it's one of the features here), they even test you to see what type of dieter you are. They will give you an estimate of how much you need to eat. Congratulations on the weight loss, but it will probably continue more effectively if you eat at least a bit more than 1500Cal (the site will probably recommend a lot more). Right now you have a depressed immune system. No one wants that. |

I completely understand. I'm a small person, and neither Old Navy nor the Gap have sizes small enough for me. I once went in there (I'm also a student, and I needed some new clothes) and NOTHING fit me. S was huge, size 0 was HUGE, XS was inexistent in a lot of outfits. I really don't understand those stores. I mean, I know Americans are big, but... I've lived in the U.S. almost my entire life, and I just can't (and for god's sake, WON"T) keep up. |

Original Post by petite_powerhouse: Well, the trainer does say some women prefer more muscle, thus should refer to other articles. No offense to anyone, but I think too much definition in women looks disgusting. I prefer the first picture of Britney, she looks more feminine. But then again, most of my friends think the second one is way better *shrug* while I think it's gross; to me, no muscles should show in the tummy. To each its own, as the author of the article puts it. |
