Pregnancy & Parenting Son starting to have potty accidents Mar 12 2009

He is most likely just feeling the anxiety of the arrival of a new baby just like you are.  Kids are keenly aware of changes in our behavior and emotions.

I wouln't worry too much about the school stuff right now.  If he is only three he has time to get ready for kindergarten.  Fine motor skills are hard for little kids.  Some things that might help are using shorter pencils and markers (crayola make ones called pip squeaks).  Also if you have chalk give him a tiny piece to use.  The smaller length "forces" them to use a better grip.  Give him scissors and tell him you need "Coupons" or something cut out.  If he thinks he is helping you he might be more motivated.  At his age it is most important that he views things as fun and play more than learning.  You don't want him to be frustrated by school at such an early age.

As far as pottying goes, you are right mistakes happen.  And they tend to happen much more often when something big is happening in a kids life (like a new sibling).  Try not to focus on the accidents (I know this is hard!) and make a big deal out of him using the potty.  Lots of praise when he uses the potty and be very neutral about the accidents, showing as little emotion either way as possible.  My oldest daughter had lots of "accidents", which i'm pretty sure were on purpose, after the arrival of her brother.  And she did it because it got a reaction out of me, but when i quit reacting she went back to using the bathroom like always.  Good luck with the baby and give yourself a break.  You have a lot on your plate right now.

Recipes Serving Sizes? Mar 04 2009

It depends on what you are making a serving of.  For example a serving of pasta is 1 cup, meat is generally 3-4 ounces, for soups or casseroles i usually say 1 cup is a serving.  Then you can add up how much volume (cups, ounces etc) of food you have and divide it into servings.  I find this really hard too but this method seems to work best for me.  Hope it helps.

Pregnancy & Parenting Blowing Toddlers nose..... help! Mar 03 2009

You can also try having her blow cotton balls around on the counter with her nose.  You can make a game out of it by trying to have her blow them into a cup or something.  Also you can put a small mirror under her nose and have her make it "steam up".  Just a couple ideas...

I'm in the same boat.  I'm 5'2" and 126 pounds with 23% body fat.  I want to tone up a lot and get down to 20% body fat.  I have been doing some strength training and have started to see my muscles get more toned.  But the progress is slow and painful.

Thanks for your replies.  Many people mention having the Polar F6, 4 or 11 models.  Do these only measure you calories burned during exercise or if you wear it all day will it give you the total calories you burn in a day?  Thanks

I could swing for hours.  And sometimes I do with my kids.  i sit and swing while I am watching them play outside.  I never really thought of it as burning calories, but I am constantly moving.

I am hoping to get one soon.  Me and the kids went today and looked but they were sold out everywhere.  Quick question for those who have it...Does it tell you how many calories you burn doing different activities or do you have to figure that our yourself?  Thanks
