This won't be pretty.

Last weigh in: 228

This week: 233.8

Gain: 5.8 lbs.

Well, I guess this is what happens when you revert to old habits for a month.  Hence why I am getting back on the wagon.  I'm actually down three pounds since I posted on here a few days ago, so I guess that's one spot of good news.

Listen up people, I am back.  I decided to hate diets for a month, and now I hate getting fatter.  I am going to lose 10% in one month!!! Ok, maybe not, but I am coming on strong, so just watch out!

P.S. Forgive me for being a no-show for so many weeks.

P.S.S. I looked at the spreadsheet and a lot of you are doing great!  Oakmommy, geez oh pete girl. You should have your own television show!

I didn't really try to stick with my weight loss routine this week.  Hence, the gain.  I thought it would be worse, so I guess that's one bright spot.

Not surprising considering I ate some huge meals and a lot of mini candy bars.  So much for thinking the Halloween candy wouldn't be a problem for me.

Congratulations to all who stuck with the Halloween Challenge the entire 12 weeks!

I can feel the plateau starting to become a downward hill.  Anyone worried about all the halloween candy?  I'm not too worried because most people don't give that great of stuff.  At least not the stuff I like (Reese's Peanut Butter Cups).  I'm not a candy kind of guy I guess.

I'm going to punch Ben and Jerry in the face today.  They did a sneak attack on me last night!  All jokes aside, despite my late night binge, the scale finally went down ... go figure!

This week was a wash, mostly because we were celebrating our baby boy's birthday all weekend long, which led to weird eating on my behalf.  No excuses though, I'll do better next week.  Also, I did not stick to my working out 3X week goal.  Again, I'll do better this week.

Sorry for the late weigh-in.  Government holiday and all.  Anyway:

This week: 228.6 lbs.

Mini Challenge: I had started doing the New Rules of Lifting workouts, which really kick your butt.  I completed the break-in phase of that and now I'm kind of doing a modified version of it.  My plan is to lift weights 3 times per week, doing a full-body workout each time.  I already feel and look a lot stronger.

So I guess I am the only male in here huh?  Ah well.

I really thought I'd have a much bigger loss than this.  On Saturday evening, I was down to 225 after working hard all day doing a yard sale (up and down the steps a million times).  Sunday I was pretty good.  I drank a ton of water though and I'm wondering if it's all still inside of me???

Went back to the gym yesterday after a couple of weeks away (sick), and now I'm all buff and of course the scale is going up again!!! I don't understand what's going on but I hope it's all a fluke.

Sorry about updating the spreadsheet late, but it was a holiday for us government workers.  It sounds like there are a lot of Canadians in this group what with all the turkey dinners over the weekend.

I just noticed that another 10% by Halloween veteran has started another challenge too.  Go to: http://caloriecount.about.com/percent-new-g42 2 to see how she took it to another level by creating a "group" here on CC.  It may not be a bad idea to go the same route.  I don't think the "group" feature existed when 10% by Halloween started.

Age: 27
Height: 6'0"
Current Weight: 228.6 lbs
Heaviest Weight: 260 lbs
Goal Weight: 190 lbs. long-term (205 for this challenge)

I'm losing weight simply because I think I should ... for all the normal reasons.  I also have my 10-year high school reunion next summer and don't want to be that guy .. you know, the jock that got really fat after high school.  I'm also losing because I think my bad habits were wearing off on my wife as she gained quite a bit of weight since meeting me and well, I'm the cook in our family, so I have to accept some of the blame.

I started to gain weight when I went to college.  I gained the freshman 15 and then the sophomore 15 and then I plateaud for a few years.  This was due mostly to the fact that I was no longer playing sports.  When I settled down and did the wife and kids thing, I slowly gained another 30 lbs. over time due mostly to huge portions, eating when I'm bored, and having little to no physical activity (I have a desk job).

That's when I started on CC at the beginning of this summer and the weight started dropping rapidly.  I'm now on a bit of a plateau, so the challenge really begins now.  I know I shouldn't have expected this to be easy.  If it were, it wouldn't be that great of an accomplishment.  So, I'm all in and glad to be aboard.

I doubt you'll have any trouble finding newbies who want to join the challenge in the weight loss forums.  If you remember, I planned to have registration for this one open for a week and it didn't even take 2 days to fill 'er up.

Oakmommy:

I am fully supportive of you heading up a 10% by Christmas challenge and will help you in any way that you might need/want.  I'll probably join the challenge as well to keep me on track for looking good at my high school reunion.

Monday weigh ins sounded like such a brilliant idea at first.  Now I hate myself for thinking about such a thing!

I have really been struggling lately with wanting to stay on a "diet."  I'm tired of Healthy Choice frozen meals for lunch, and I've long since given up on counting calories.  No surprise I've plateaud.

The weird thing is that I was doing so good, so you'd think that I would have all the motivation I would've needed to stay on track.  I think when you see a skinnier you in the mirror, you sometimes think you look good and think your dieting should be over, when in truth, you could look even better and even once you reach your goals, you still have to work to maintain.

Just needed to vent.  I'm certainly not giving up on myself or this group.  But hey, I got to be accountable to someone as far as the weight loss stuff goes.

Sorry guys, I was out of town on business yesterday.  I just updated the spreadsheet.  Some of you are really close to the 10% now!  Some of us need a little kick in the butt here at the halfway point (myself included).

Let today mark the grand revitalization of this group.

"One should eat to live, not live to eat." ~Cicero, Rhetoricorum LV

"The one way to get thin is to re-establish a purpose in life." ~Cyril Connolly, The Unquiet Grave

"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."     - James 1:12

"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"     - Matthew 25:21

The last one is something I'm trying harder to apply in many areas of my life, whether in my personal finances, fitness, and relationships with my wife and children.  I believe that if I can have the self-control to continue losing weight until I'm at a healthy weight, I will have proven myself able to handle bigger and better opportunities.

*** Week 6 Mini-Challenge ***

As we come up to the mid-point of our challenge, some of us are in dire need of motivation.  This week, share a quote, scripture, or saying that inspires or motivates you to continue losing weight.  We're on a difficult journey together, so hopefully a long list of motivating thoughts will be just what we need this week.

Did we have a mini challenge this week?

My apologies.  I had a very hectic work week and wasn't in front of my computer like I normally am.  There will be a mini-challenge coming later today and I will do a better job of keeping us talking.  Maybe I need a co-leader of this group.

I'm actually surprised I lost weight this week.  I was not in my normal routine at all since I was out-of-town on business almost every day of the week and ate out many, many times.  Anyway, this week I'm back into my normal routine, so I expect a bigger loss next week.

Jamm ... you're on a roll!  Keep up the good work.

nbkelly ... I definitely know how the work committments can get in the way of your goals.  They've been wreaking havoc for me for two weeks straight.

The spreadsheet is finally up-to-date.  If I missed anyone on it, please let me know.  This is a crazy week for me as I'm not at my desk at all this week, so I get online when I can.

The good news for me is that I've lost all that weight I gained the previous week.  Maybe it was a lot of water.

This week's loss/gain: +3 lbs.

Oops.  Not such a good week for me.  I decided that I was going to enjoy the PromiseKeepers Conference and focus on God instead of my diet for just one weekend (not that they need to be mutually exclusive but it sounded good in my mind).  Well that gave me license to eat like a little piggy and we see the results.

I'm not phased though.  I'm still pretty much on track to make this challenge's goal and I'm ready to get right back on the wagon. Hey, if nothing else, it made me human again in my wife's eyes.  By the way, thanks to everyone who gave me advice in this area.  It has helped a lot.
