Motivation Slowly Falling off the weightloss wagon!!! Help Oct 15 2009
05:34 (UTC)

The burn pile is a really good idea!  I need to start thinking of treats as just that - TREATS that you have just one of every once in a while, only if you burn it off.  Maybe then I will realize that the pumpkin pie or chocolate is not worth it.

Motivation HELP!!! I need to get back on track Oct 15 2009
05:32 (UTC)

I am your same height and weight, and I want to get back to my goal weight of about 145.  So we are on the same journey it seems!

I have tried tons of classes in the past and really liked pilates, hot yoga, kick boxing and indoor soccer.  I also just like going for a walk outside or riding a stationary bike indoors.  I am going to try to do more of the bike, walking, and adding in situps/pushups/weights at home.

For me the hard part will be getting my eating back on track.  I have fallen into some bad habits - snacking at night, eating in the afternoon when I am bored at work, drinking wine with my boyfriend on the couch.  All not good... all are contributing to my weight gain.

If you want to add me as a friend for some motivation, go ahead!  Good luck :)

Motivation Any one else been in a slump? Oct 15 2009
05:26 (UTC)

I have been in a huge slump too.... no motivation to work out or even do the exercises that I used to love to do.  I think part of it is the cold weather, part is just getting out of a routine.  I like the ideas here for motivation and I will have to give them a try.  I need to get back into shape, so thanks for sharing!

I yawn all the time too - even during cardio and kick boxing, but also hot yoga and pilates.  I have no idea why but I can't help it!  I try to hide it though so the instructor doesn't 'punish' me and work me harder.

The Lounge PETA's take on the beheading... Aug 08 2008

I live in Winnipeg, which is where Tim McLean is from and about 1hr away from where the tragedy occurred.  I think the PETA ad and its timing is incredibly insensitive to the family and friends of the victim.  The community where it happened and my city are devastated by this.  The issue here is not  if you eat meat, its that a young life was violently taken away, and his family has to now deal with that.

PETA is not the only incredibly stupid/insensitive group out there taking advantage of this situation.  There is a group from Westboro Baptist Church in the states, who actually are planning to PICKET the funeral of the victim tomorrow.  They claim Canada has brought this on ourselves because we allow gay marriage…

Weight Loss How long and how much? People on cc for greater than 60 days, please. Aug 06 2008

I have been here since Jan 2006.  Starting weight was 215 or so.  I am at 147ish today - loss of about 68 pounds.  I have been maintaining between 145 - 150 for over a year now.  I am 29 and 5'10".

This site is a great way to keep track/become aware of what you are eating, the quality of food you are eating, and how much you exercise.

Motivation How often do you weigh yourself? Jul 31 2008

I weigh myself mostly every day, first thing in the morning before eating or drinking.  I track it here every day too, but have gotten to the point where a blip on the scale doesnt affect my emotions.  When I first started losing weight (70+ pounds ago) I would freak out if the scale number went up even a tiny a bit.

I started at 215 in Jan 2006.  I got to my goal of 145 last July 2007, and have maintained that for over a year now (+/- about 5 pounds).  I am 5'10" and am 29 (for 2 more months!) and lost about 70 pounds in total.

Eating better, tracking calories, walking lots, exercising - bike, weights, pilates, boot camp.  I have bad days or weak moments, and sometimes get lazy with the exercise.  I think logging stuff here has made me be accountable and think twice before scarffing an entire bag of cookies.  :)

The thing that bothers me is when my not-so-healthy eating friends give ME a hard time for eating well - veggies, lean meats, smaller (or I should say realistic) portions, salad dressing on the side, etc.  But then they eat a big bag of chips for lunch.  Its sad that MY eating habits are seen as weird, and theirs are ok.
Weight Loss Eating Out SOS Jun 16 2008

Whoa, there is no way I could eat only 200 - 300 calories in a day even if it meant I could eat lots when going out.  Especially if I didnt go out to eat until 7pm!  Personally I can see scaling back the calories durnig the day to leave a little extra room for a dinner out...  but not that much! :)

Eating at restaurants still kinda stresses me out, but I try to make the best choices I can.  Salad with dressing on the side, skip the bread, ask for extra veggies no butter, and get grilled meat or fish.  If going out for drinks/snacks, maybe get a glass of wine and take your time enjoying it.  If someone mentions you are drinking slow, say how good it is and that you want to enjoy it.  :)  Offer to share an appetizer with someone if you are hungry.  And limit going out overall - better for your wallet too!
The Lounge Leasing vs. Buying? Jun 11 2008

I am leasing right now, and decided to go this way because the payments were slightly less and it made sense with my home business.  In my lease, there is actually allowances for scratches, dents, dings, etc. - I am allowed up to 5 per body panel.  As for mileage, I drive to work every day, go on one or two road trips a year (8 hour drives, camping trips, etc) and am still way under my allowances.

What people have said makes sense - you need to know what you will be doing for the next few years if you lease.  If something suddenly changes - your commute, your job, your paycheck - you can get stuck in a difficult situation.

Maintaining addicted to calorie counting? Jun 10 2008

Personally I dont think counting calories is wrong.  For me, its some of the negative feelings I get when I go over or eat something 'bad'.  I wish I could go without the guilt.

I agree though that calorie counting, along with exercise and weigh ins, is what helped me keep my weight constant for the past year and a half.  :)
Weight Loss What do you want to do when you get thinner that you can't do now? Jun 06 2008
14:49 (UTC)

I am maintaining at my goal weight, but some things I enjoy now include going shopping and being CHOOSY over what I buy - I only get things I love and look great.  When I was at 215, I would just get whatever fit.  I have tons of bikinis and actually am brave enough to wear them on the beach now.  I feel more confident with myself.

One word of advice though - the thoughts that when you get to a goal weight you will automatically be happier may be a bit misleading.  You may feel happy that you are at a healthy weight BUT if you have other issues (for me, I had relationship issues that made me unhappy) well those didnt go away with the weight loss.

I read She's Come Undone years ago, and didnt like it much at the time.  I lent it out and never got it back.  Then I picked up a copy years later at a used book sale and re-read it - loved it!

I also read I Know This Much is True and loved it but found it hard to get through due to the emotional content.  Plus I think I read it a month after my dad died (not best timing).

The Lovely Bones had my crying on the first page.  It gripped me from the start and I could not put it down.  I have leant it out many times and everyone loves it.

Right now I am reading a few books - Kite Runner, Memorykeepers Daughter, Eat Pray Love...  Has anyone read The Time Travellers Wife?  I liked that one too! :)
The Lounge dating a heavier girl/lighter guy May 30 2008

I dated someone in my early 20's who was shorter than me (and probably lighter) but there were many other issues there other than height/weight.  My last long relationship was with someone tall and therefore a bit heavier than me.

Since I am tall for a female (5'10") I generally like someone taller than me.  I just feel more comfortable, and I like that I can still wear heels.  But if I found someone wonderful who was a bit shorter then I dont think it would matter as much.  (I would like to think so, at least!) :)

Motivation getting to goal weight..... May 29 2008
19:25 (UTC)
Since you have met your goal to lose weight, you should set a new goal to be this weight in X months.  Then work towards that...

Also, maybe try switching up your workout routine - instead of the same cardio, find a new thing you enjoy like a fitness class or DVD.  Now that its nice out, go for walks/jogs, swims, or bike rides.  For me, finding something new to keep me active has motivated me to maintain.

My friend and I arrived in Paris really early in the morning after a long flight/no sleep.  We had good directions to on how to get on the train and metro.  But once I got off the metro, the directions didnt say which way to go to get to our hotel.  We were just standing on the street corner reading the map, and a French woman came up asking if she could help.  When I showed her where I wanted to go on the map, she said she would walk us there!  She walked us about 5 blocks out of her way just to make sure we got to the hotel!
