I like that test.  Puts me squarely on the Milton Friedman side of center - right on!

OP - the two-party system can be way to simplistic for many of us to fit neatly in one party or the other.  For example, there are many different kinds of Republicans (neocons, reagan republicans, ron paul republicans, religious right, etc.).  Much of the difference has to do with the values that this graph charts out.  Do you value individual liberty more than strong central authority?  If so, you're closer to a Ron Paul republican.  If not, you're closer to religious right or neocon.  Do you believe in taxing the public to achieve social or military aims?  If yes, you're probably a neocon.  If not, you're probably a Reagan republican or a Ron Paul republican.  There are all kinds of ways of dividing people up based on different values.

If the graph puts you close to Thatcher, read up on some of her views and see how close they are to yours.  Might give you a starting point.

lysistrata, thank you thank you thank you. This was exactly what I was looking for. Also, thank you for the link, when I get a moment I will research some more. Reading up on Thatcher I do see why the political compass landed me there. I like this woman. lol.

Okay, enough about politics. Thank you lysistrata, I got what I was looking for.

The red dot was pretty much in the upper right hand corner. But I'm not really getting any clear answers here. The page basically told me I was somewhat near some "famous" people that I don't really know anything about because I don't really know anything about politics to begin with.

I'm looking for something that says "hey, you picked these answers so you fall somewhere near this category." Plain and straightforward. What if I don't agree 100% with one party?

Oh and P.S. I really don't need any snide remarks like "Or how about learning about politics." I'm trying. Thanks for the support.

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly, this is what I got:

Economic Left/Right: 3.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 7.54

Now what does this mean?! The explanation is confusing to me.

I did the political compass survey. It told me I was a social libertarian. That's not even remotely close to being true. There must have been some mistake. I took it again, and it gave me the same answer. I researched the ideals of the social libertarian and I can say, with 100% confidence that I don't believe in any of those things. Honestly. I don't swing that way.

Does anyone have any other political surveys they can reccomend? This one really didn't work for me. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to the questions?

My BMI is normal. It is on the higher end of normal, but normal nonetheless.

I have been doing these exercises for two weeks and I do them 6 days per week. Once a day, for about 20 to 30 minutes.

I haven't seen any change so far, but I haven't been doing it long enough to see any change anyway.

Personally I think homecoming really has nothing to do with it. Society puts so much pressure on school dances when they are really not that important, especially to dudes.

He going with Talia to homecoming a. becuase they are the same age, and b. because he knows her better (he most likely knows her better because they are the same age).

He probably wants to get to know you better. The last thing you want to do is put yourself and your emotions on the line by assuming that he likes you because he wants to hang out. Don't do that to yourself. Take it slow. Hang out with him, don't think about homecoming and take it one step at a time.

Guys think:

Oh, she's bringing up a problem.  Well, if she's talking about it, it must be bugging her.  So, let's fix the problem so it doesn't bug her anymore, because just talking about it while doing nothing about it isn't going to solve anything, because she'll just bring it up again tomorrow, because she hasn't done anything to fix the problem and, for some reason, she gets annoyed when I try to fix it for her.  Having something to complain/whine/kvetch about must be an integral part of the feminine psyche, since she doesn't want to do anything about what she's complaining about, she just wants to complain, and if I fix the problem, I take that away from her.  But, she really tugs at my heartstrings when she complains and I want to help her fix the problem, but that only causes her to say something like: "You're not listening to me" or "You don't care."

Screw it, dude.  Let's go bowling.

I've never heard truer words. lol. That is definately how he feels. Except maybe rock climbing instead of bowling, lmao.

In response to some posts that say that I care more, or I do more, or that he is lazy or selfish:

This could never be further from the truth.

He does things for me. Acts. He fixed the sink, put down new tile in the bathroom, fixed the light over the sink, fixed the downstairs toilet, drives and hour to see me multiple times per week, etc etc etc, he supports me endlessly through his acts. He also compromises for me, intensely. I have had his best friend and his mother both tell me that they have never seen him talk as much as he does as when he is with me. He tells me time and time again that he has never talked to another human being as much as he has with me. Another compromise? My favorite food is sushi, it makes him violently ill, but you know what? For a while he was sucking it up and going until I found out he was throwing up, and thats when I told him he was being rediculous and we didn't have to get sushi every time we go out just because it's my favorite. He loves me very, very much, this I know for sure.

gi-jane - Your love language is most obviously not acts. And thats perfectly fine. But understand that yes, we can hire people to cook and clean for us, and no, it doesn't mean they love us, but at the same time we know that because they are not doing those acts for us with love in their hearts. The key isn't the act itself, but the motivation behind it. I cook and clean for him because I love to, because he loves it and I love his love. And of course I like food and a clean house. lol. I don't believe that he is my boyfriend when it is convienent, he bends over backwards for me, and I, at times, have a hard time realizing that because I would much prefer him to just tell me he loves me. I would think it would be so much easier, but apparently not for him.

hotfuss - I think you are on the right track. He really loves it when I write him letters. Even though I think it's completely unecessary, he has put every letter I've ever written him on the fridge. Anything I doodle on a napkin, he keeps. lol. Yet he needs to learn to have the patience to sit and listen when I have something to say.

Okay, I think I've taken a lot from this thread. Thank you everyone for your help. : )

Absolutely fabulous!

Shopping for jeans for a pear can be more debilitating than bathing suit shopping, I know it's either nowhere near up the thighs or an 8 inch gap at the waist in the back -- super attractive. Mine lone pair are Old Navy and getting too big to wear -- never tried Jeanstar -- maybe with enough affirmation training and desensitization I can try some of those on one day ;-)

And great to be going into the Fall and Winter with the new attitude. As long as you can get to the gym in the hurricane then you're set!

lmao yes! Or even work out at home! Surprised

You can usually find Jeanstar jeans for under $20 @ Marshalls. : D

Do you do indoor or outdoor?  I'm afraid of heights.  So can I be nosy since we are the same height?  What do you weigh and what size jeans do you wear?  I'm a pear too

 Sure no problem!

I do both indoor and outdoor climbing!! I started with indoor, which is smart because indoor climbing is used to train for outdoor climbing. I climb indoor in the winter and when it's raining and outdoor during the rest of the year. I'm afraid of heights as well. Actually, now that you mention it, I don't think I know many climbers who aren't afraid of heights. I guess it's what gives you that adrenaline rush to give it everything you've got.

Presently I weight 129lbs, when I have my period I bloat to about 132. Ideally, I want to be 116, but I'll settle for 126.

I wear a size 4 petite jeans. But the size really isn't the important part, it's the brand. Because I'm a pear, certain jeans won't fit, no matter what the size. Some will be fine with a belt. Others fit like a charm. I have 36 inch hips. My favorite jeans are Old Navy and Jeanstar. I swear by Jeanstar jeans. I will never be able to wear JCrew or American Eagle jeans (which makes me sad, those are my favorite stores :( ) because of the cut. It's just not going to work. lol.

Waist is 22 inches, bust is 32. My thighs are 20 inches and my calves are 15. My ankles are 9 inches. I keep saying I have kankles, because boots never fit me, but this past week I went to try on some boots and voila!!! They fit!!!  I was so happy I thought I would cry. : )

how did you keep your motivation? i was 182 and got down to 161, then, unfortunately, went back up to about 167 is where i seem to staying around. so, as you can see, ive lost mine, what are you doing in order to keep your motivation up? especially in the fall and Winter months?

Well, it's really hard, I'll give you that. Thats what I struggle with the most. I just kept reminding myself that I was doing this for me, so that I could be proud of who I have become. (I am!)

But as a very important side note, I 've realized that fall and winter is when I would fall off the wagon before, and I wanted to let you know that I realized what I have to do in order to stop myself from doing so. All you have to do is tell yourself that fall and winter is no different from any other season. Sometimes I'll be driving and see joggers in all sorts of stormy weather. Yes, I think they are crazy, but it got me thinking. They jog, no matter what. So I can keep up a healthy lifestyle no matter what. Especially if I'm inside a gym, or just watching what I eat. It shouldn't matter if it's snowing, sleeting, or even a hurricane outside. lol

I'm 5'1. I'm very much a pear shape.

It took me a year to loose the weight.

My secret? Rock climbing. I'm obsessed. It's my life and I have no idea where I would be without it. When I started I would go maybe 2 or 3 times per week. I used to jog a little on the treadmil, but it was painful (not literally, just figuratively) so I stopped after a couple months. I tried sticking to a mostly vegetarian diet, but I didn't really stick with that either.

So, over the course of a year I tried a few different things, but I'll never stop climbing. Never. I found my passion, and that's all I had to do.

p.s. I expected some disagreements to break out over a topic on punk rock. its only natural. ; )

I gotta agree, eve 6 is alternative rock to me, and sublime is a reggae/punk/ska sort of thing. HOWEVER, a real tie-breaker is looking up how iTunes classifies it. Thats how my friends and I settle those sort of arguments.

GREAT thread guys. Thanks for responding!

oh and p.p.s. my boyfriend backed out of the agreement, he doesn't want to listen to punk, no ifs ands or buts, but he doesn't  mind if I play it around the house, its just not his thing. : / whatevs.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! Overall, you guys are suggesting mainstream punk bands that I would listen to. My favs? Dead Kennedys and Bad Religion, just to name two.

Someone suggested to list what he likes to listen to, cause it might help, and I think thats a really good idea.

He loves:

Lamb of God

Metallica

I Set My Friends on Fire

The Devil Wears Prada

this band called "I Wrestled a Bear Once" (idk)

Linkin Park

As an aside, and I know it should probably be a new topic, but if you know of any underground punk bands in your area, PLZ let me know about them! THNX!

I'm sorry but 1) the calculator on the link is based rediculously high and 2) I'm not starving myself. If I'm hungry, I eat healthy food. 3) If I seriously, ate over 2000 calories a day, I would be overweight. Believe me, I've tried it. I was overweight eating the amount of calories the guidelines recommend.

I don't know if everyone else wants to trust a site, or their body. But I think I'm going to trust my body.

I got an e-mail that my original post (saying I ate 1250 cals per day) was revoked because it showed signs of an eating disorder. But reading the post by lynnlette, it seems that girls under 20 should eat a base of 1500 cals per day. And I'm 20, so how is 1250 cals per day an eating disorder? Also, my doctor told me that my diet was healthy and correct, so excuse my french but wtf is wrong with this picture?

Health & Support weight spike Nov 22 2008
14:41 (UTC)

I was aware that weight can fluctuate 5lbs at any given time. However, I went from 136 to 140, and now I've been at 140 for about a week now. I like to check my weight frequently, not because I'm obsessive, but because I like to see what affects my weight. Like if I drink a large glass of water, I'll step on the scale afterwards to see the difference. I think it's interesting, I'm not being obsessive. Thus I posted this, because there was no major difference in my diet that would make my weight spike like that. I'm def confused. I eat between 1300-1350 cals per day. On days when I rock climb, I eat more. I also found, through much trial and error, that if I don't check the scale at least 3 days per week, my weight loss efforts go to pot, really. I know this from experience. So what about the sudden jump in weight? It's been a week, and nothing's changed.

Anyhoo, if your going to be in CT I'd suggest visiting New England states, only cause it will be a whole lot less money spent on travelling. The trip to D.C. is quite long and back up to Ohio would be too. Are you driving??

New Haven is kind of icky, so be careful.

NY has NYC if you want to check that out.

RI has Newport, tourists LOVE it.
