monkfish, thanks for the perspective :-) - I was about to post my own stats (but the whole conversion from the metric and kilo to the american just seemed too much of a hassle :-))

I didn't drink Friday or Saturday at all - but Sunday I had three large beers.... my cousin arrived from abroad...and I must confess that I had a small beer with her for lunch today - we're vacationing ( I guess that's a bad excuse) - but will try to do better for the rest of the week....

Weight Loss What are some healthy changes that you've made in how you eat? Jul 18 2009

I've made it a point to eat around 300grams of veggies with dinner - this way i feel full and i avoid the rice/potato/bread trap that i usually find myself falling into. (and i avoid feeling that i don't get anything to eat - the whole down sizing part is really hard for me!)

i don't buy or have sweets/salty snacks at home anymore, whereas before i would always have some "for guests", that would magically disappear on those long evenings infront of the tv...without guests!

i drink a pot full of green tea, black tea or white tea for an evening treat (and ned to pee about a million times before bed, but i find it cozy...the drinking of tea, not the peeing, obviously :-))

i eat before i get really really hungry - this way i avoid just tossing random stuff down my throat at a really fast pace.

i have carrot sticks and cucumber sticks in the fridge at all times and make a dip of onion soup mix and low fat yoghurt when i really need to treat myself.

but having said all this, i will still eat whatever i want once in a while - i'm a sucker for a medium rare peppersteak with a beer or sushi...arraaraaraaa (mouthwateringlikehomersimpson) :-)

I read somewhere that drinking too much water can rinse important minerals out of your body - the "8 glasses a day" rule has been tossed to the wind by some, who claim that you need to drink when you're thirsty no more. Of course some people have a hard time knowing whether they're thirsty or hungry and therefore eat more than they drink - in this case I guess it's about being re-acquanted with your body's needs somehow.

Weight Loss Size 8-10.... not normal? :( Jul 17 2009

Original Post by darkylinky:

on someone who's under 5'3 or 5'4? yeah size is kinda fat. on someone whos 5'10, no that is not fat.

actually according to bmi, it's still considered normal.

as for the whole european thing - come on, that's bs - the europeans (of which i'm one) aren't all size 0 no matter what anyone writes.

i'm more concerned with the fact that it got to you so much - as others have pointed out: it's someone's opinion, why choose to focus on that one negative instead of the gazillion or so out there who think a size 8 is gr8 ;-)?

i just did four days without alcohol and right now i would kill for a glass of redwine, but will resist because i know one glass turns into quite a few....

so yes: i think this challenge will be good for me - but we're talking weekdays only, right?

watergirl: I'm a runner, not a swimmer, but you're right, something is definitely off, because it certainly didn't take me three minutes to swim 25 meters.

The all or nothing mentality is so me - I go all in and if I miss out on a day of excercise, I stop for more than a month and eat whatever I want (or don't want, but that doesn't stop me from eating it!). I've not been very good at looking at the big picture, seeing that it is a lifelong commitment and that days "off" aren't the switch that turns everything else off - unfortunately this has meant that all the weight I lost last year is back again - so I'm starting over, trying to take myself more seriously this time...

Well done for you to stop the bad cycle before you're back to square one - and I think it's great that your family and fiancé support you:-)

Ladies,

I think that sounds like a great idea Smader - i vote for "the final weightloss" -since this is what it's supposed to end up being, right ;-)?

And the idea to post weight on first page - i like it. Let me know if you need for me to do it as well, since i don't mind.

Hasta, south beach - i have the book, but actually never tried it, is it hard? when are you planning on starting? I'll be interested in following your progress.

Smader: an eight mega program - is it a specific program, or is it just logging every little thing?

I'm really motivated to start again, although i must admit that i already "spent" an off day yesterday by drinking beer with a few friends...

can't wait to see you in our new thread...

#4: that was really an inspirational read for me. i also have a tendency to overeat when i reach a good weight (which is about 2 lbs before i reach my goal), resulting in a weight increase over a few weeks- reading your words made it clear for me, that yes, of course we're not all the same, and while it works for some to eat all day and then restrict themselves at night, that doesn't work for me - and that's okay!!! Funny how that never occurred to me. This just means that i have to work with what works for me...

So thank you freshbakedpi for the motivation :-)

Dear Hasta and Smader - I hope you both had a great Christmas. I've thought about our little group here on and off for the past few months, but have fallen completely off the horse. I do want to get back on, though, and am right now making a bucket list for all the things I want to accomplish for 2009, one of them is reaching my ultimate weight goal and checking in on this site every day to log calories and get my excercising back on track.

I hope you both have a wonderful new year's eve tomorrow, and may 2009 bring you what you need.

(will post weight on friday!)

ciao ladies.

Ladies,

Have been away from here for quite a while - but I see the same applies to the rest of you...perhaps the challenge was too much, smader? :-D

I'm up for a challenge - so if it's okay, today is monday and my goal for this week is:

to eat healthy snacks at night when my daughter gets back (when she isn't here, I smoke, which wards off any desire to eat, but I never smoke with her in the house, and that triggers a desire for craptacular foods! perhaps my real challenge over time should be to quit smoking!)

and another thing: not to cancel my work outs as I have been doing for the past three weeks....

that ought to be enough for one week, right?!

aha, longhorns....mmm, right...yes, number one...ahaaa :-)

My scale is so unpredictable as well, and i think it's funny how i tend to accept the high number as the right one, instead of trusting the lower weight... but i guess it's easier to focus on the negative and tell myself i'm being realistic...basically i just think scales are a thing invented by someone really really mean...I'm almost addicted to mine these days (having christmas in jerusalem as a goal for wanting to look wawaweewa!!)

hasta, what's up with calling the routine lame? at least you aren't topping 140... and living without alcohol sounds to me like something that, at least for me, would require a great deal of stamina ;-)

see you on friday - 'til then, have a great few days

hahaha Smader - you can always count on husbands for reality checks.... but - what is also part of reality, is that you really lost a lot of weight - so a big congratulations is in order...well done :-)

Back to the future - i love that movie!

my weigh in is a day late - was superbusy yesterday, but nothing much to report - still at 127.2 (which actually might be a bit up?)

still no report from Hasta? hopefully she's busy celebrating a good week.

have a great one, ladies

Hasta, that's amazing - congratulations :-)

Smader, I don't know if I'll actually venture into one of those spinning classes again, but seeing how you're both spinning and running, I guess there really isn't a legitimate excuse for me not to.

Funny how that magic number was magical - FOR A DAY! then the devil hit me, and I started eating junk as if it were the last junk food on the planet - and since it was fall break and i had my daughter with me, i couldn't excercise  - so (drumroll, here is my excuse:) I didn't weigh in on Friday Embarassed...have signed up for excercise classes all week (twice on wednesday), so I'll weigh in again on friday..promise :-)

Ladies..I cheated a bit this morning and went on the scale again -mostly to see if I was up much after my Friday night out...and ..with the end of my period, I'm actually down to 125.7!!!! This is an almost magical feeling and it motivated me to go to the gym to work out (did spinning for the first time, and OMG - thought I would fall off the bike - with my feet still in the clamps - and die...) so...what I wanted to say, is that I'm back in the game again, and have decided to give myself little goals along the way - next goal is 123.5... And judging from Smader and Hasta, you are also doing well - so glad to hear that :-)

Hello ladies,

It's time for the weekly weigh in again - I'm down to 127.2. My chart is beginning to look a lot like the mouth of a crocodile with all the ups and downs of this weight loss...

renekane, I hope you find the holy grail when it comes to the alternative to comfortfood - and when you do, please do share :-)

Balehead; although you and your family are ill ( I hope you all feel better soon), I would love to see you active in this group still - not for you to loose weight, but for us to have your company...

Have a nice weekend all (I'm actually going out for drinks and dancing tonight....yeahhh!)
