I love anything that resembles Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. ^_^

As far as cookies, muffins, cakes, brownies, ect., I highly reccommend "The Joy of Vegan Baking" cookbook. It's excellent. :D

Vegetarian Veg*ns, do you consider yourself 'picky'? Aug 09 2008

Kind of. Generally, I'll eat anything vegan that is healthy. But I have a tendency to be really weird about food. I'm a health nut and try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, ect. I'm very particular of what I allow inside of my body. So, yes, I probably am a little picky. :p

I'd like to join your support group. I'm 17 years old and 5'10 and a half and weigh 165 pounds. Techically, I'm not overweight, but I fear I will be if I keep eating as much as I have been these last few days. I'm much more consistant with exercising. Everyday, I do 30-60 minutes of cardio as well as 80 reps of weight training. I need to develop specific goals for my eating habits as they have gotten out of control lately. However, my issue is that I can't be too strict because I don't want to fall back into anorexia. I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible. So sometimes I eat too much in order to rebel against my mind. However, if I continue to do so, I will get fat someday. And I can't let myself become overweight again.

Any suggestions for a healthy eating plan would be fantastic. Note: I am vegan. :)

When I first started going to the gym, I think I had the opposite problem. My mentality was "Oh, I was so good today, I went to the gym so I can have that extra treat".

That's my problem! How did you solve it?

Young Calorie Counters At what time did you start to notice your weight? Aug 07 2008

There is a big, long history to my weight obssession and it started in 5th grade. I was slightly overweight and my peers either treated me like crap, ignored me or made fun of me. Ever since then I've had this consuming fear of becoming overweight, to the point where I've done drastic things in order to prevent it from happening. This has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I starved myself before I knew what anorexia was; for the longest time I thought I was a freak because everyone else seemed to eat much more than me. I'm better now and at a healthy weight, but it has gotten pretty bad in the past (I once lost 60 in a little over 3 months and became 20 pounds underweight for my height). I've also had a problem with compulsive exercise, which is something that seems to be getting worse. I'm working on developing a healthier mindset and being less obssessive about food, weight, and control.

I know what you mean. There was once a time when I lost a significant amount of weight within a short period of time and everything felt different. I don't really like the attention either. It can be awkward, especially when your motives aren't purely based on appearance.

But, back on topic. Don't worry too much about it. You can always exercise and burn those extra calories. :)

Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in the "good foods, bad foods" mentality. I have a mental list of foods I love, but am not allowed to eat. I've tried breaking them, but each time I try, I give myself hell for it. I have the inability not to feel guilty after eating something. Anything, actually, even if it's healthy. And if it's an unhealthy food and I cross that line, it will bother me for the next few days. "I shouldn't have eaten that..." etc.

I wish I had as healthy of an attitude towards food as you guys do. Y'all are much more logical than I am. :/

Vegetarian Veg*ns, where do you get your protein? Aug 04 2008

Oh, I see. Thanks. ^_^

At first I thought people were censoring the word "vegan." I was like "What? Why would they do that?" :p

It seems like it would make more sense to put an apostrophe there instead (like veg'n) because that's normally what you use to leave part of a word out, but oh well.

Vegetarian Question about veganism Aug 04 2008
10:30 (UTC)
3

Personally, I am vegan because I'm againt animal cruelty and animal suffering. However, I do not look down on others who eat meat. By avoiding animal by-products, I feel I am living what I call a "cruelty free lifestyle." Not to say that omnivores are cruel. I believe a matter like this is a personal choice. In my expirence, I've never been able to look at a plate of food without wondering where it came from. I suppose veganism was inevitable with me. :p

The best suggestion I can offer is to research and make an educated decision based on that research. Whether you choose veganism or not is up to you. It is a personal choice.
