Pregnancy & Parenting Abs after C-section...will I ever see them again? Jul 04 2008

Wow yinfern....you look great! And after three c-sections? I've only had one so I guess there is hope after all. Right now I seem to be losing weight every where except for my belly area. I am already back to pre-pregnancy but the weight has been completely redistributed.

I'm curious as to what shape you were in before your children, how long it took you to get back in shape and how long you waited before beginning ab exercises again. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Pregnancy & Parenting Headache for a month now!!!! HELP!!! Jun 30 2008

I had bad sinuses when I was pregnant, sneezing and blowing my nose every morning for like an hour. As soon as I had my son it went away. As far as the headaches go you may want to think about dehydration. Are you getting enough water? I was getting headaches early on in my pregnancy and my midwife told me to drink more water (8-12 glasses a day)..and it worked. I know thats hard when you're pregnant because of the peeing thing, but you get used to it.

I've been told that sometimes a headache is your body simply telling you when something isn't right with your digestive system (dehydration, constipation, hunger, upset stomach). It could be that once you take care of that problem it will go away. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that ray of hope! I was beginning to wonder.

Like you said campbellssoup, I did just have my son so I probably am seeing swelling and not so much fat....in fact there are patches of skin in that area that are still numb!

And thanks for the tips personaltraining. I will be trying some of them.

I tried to do pilates after three weeks and realized I was no where near ready. My midwife gave me the go ahead to do ab work again at six weeks postpartum. I have been doing pilates and tae bo (the tae bo ab dvd is incredible). I also take the stairs in my building at least twice a day (16 flights) while tightening my abs (which I do when I walk around as well). I am sure to see results soon. I'm certainly feeling it right now!

Pregnancy & Parenting Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms! Jun 06 2008

I'm so glad to have found this group! I'm one month postpartum and a breastfeeding mom. Well actually at the moment I'm a breastpumping mom. My son is in NICU as he was born early. Breast feeding was hard (emotionally) for me with my daughter so I gave up early. Seven years later I'm trying it again. I know I will be successful this time.

I'm back on CC after nearly a year and hoping to finally reach my goal weight.

My stats

28 yrs old, 5'4"

start weight: 160

goal weight: 135

I'm concerned about the whole losing weight while breastfeeding thing. I've heard you are not supposed to diet. Is that true? I noticed a lot of you said that you lost weight simply by counting calories. What's the average intake for a breastfeeding mom? I'm guessing 1800-2000. When I was pregnant I simply ate when I was hungry.

I'm still trying to get used to the idea that I'm not pregnant anymore. I'm still eating like I'm 7 months pregnant. Even when I'm not hungry! So that will be a challenge.

I look forward to checking in with you.

It could be Hyperhidrosis. Check out this thread from a little while ago. I have the same thing. It appeared out of no where about 5-6 years ago. Hope this helps a bit.

That sounds like me.

The thing is if you're hungry its better to eat than not. Otherwise you'll end up binging.

I eat things like;

baked beans, corn kernels (plain or fried-with less than a 1/4 teaspoon of oil and your favorite spices), strawberries, grapes, and low calorie bread like dempter's body wise or weight watchers.

Those things have a really good calorie to grams ratio. For example 85 grams of corn have only 70 calories. So your eating more for less calories. I've found that this really helps for me. When I log my food I always pay attention to the calorie to grams ratio.

Also, I drink a litre of water with every meal and tea. Another thing is to try to keep yourself busy. This month I've been packing so I've been working constantly and I don't even think about being hungry. Many days I've had my 3 meals and have had to have a really big snack at nice to make up my 1200 for the day.

I'm certainly no expert, still learning but I've found this helps for me. Hope this is helpful for you.

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself...[ thanks for the invite ejoy;) ]

My stats

Female/27/5'4"/142

First Goal: 135

Goal: (if the first isn't sufficient) 125-130

I started my weight loss journey about six years ago, after I had my daughter and saw a pic of myself and realized that I no longer looked the same. It's taken me that long to get to where I am now. Most of what has changed is the way I think about everything. My motive is to stay healthy and stay active. There is no quick fix! Not to say I don't want to lose weight though...cause I definitely do! My biggest issue (really my main concern) is my belly. That after baby belly can be so unattractive and it never seems to quit!

I've lost about 20 lbs over my career as a dieter (this is from yo-yoing between 5-10 lbs for every effort I would put in). More recently (this year) I have been able to lose weight and actually keep it off.

I started off the year at 152, so since February (when the real effort started again) I've lost the first ten. I was stuck at 140 for the month of June and I have to say I got a little lazy and went back up the scale. I'm back on track now.

Up until June I was mainly just counting calories and excercising.

I would eat about 1200-1500 calories a day and burn about 600 at the gym ( I did mostly cardio and little weight training).

Now I'm not just concentrating on caloric intake but fat and sugar intake as well. I eat 1200 calories a day, hardly any sugar and 20 grams or 30% of fat a day. It's already made a huge difference. I started losing weight again immediately.

My excercise regimine has also changed. I'm moving in about 3 wks so I've sold my gym membership and have gone back to tae bo boot camp for now.

My biggest worry right now is losing focus during my move. It's funny how a change in your schedule can throw you off, but I'm going to try really hard to stay on track.

Wish me luck! and Good luck to all of you. I look forward  to seeing you around this thread.

yes tae bo bootcamp is a great workout! I agree with everyone. I've been using it for years.

manda...As far as the bands go, take your time getting there. I lost weight and toned up not using the bands. In fact, the original tae bo had no bands and was still very effective. Once you get used to the bands and try it without it though it really does feel like your not doing anything. I now use the elite bands with weights inside them and the original bands do nothing for me.

Thanks for the link subwaybusker I was actually looking for something like that.

Whishful, I know that's definitely a bonus for me. I'm always noticed that I gain muscle quickly especially in my legs and arms. I wish I could lose fat just as quickly though!

I used one for the first 2 1/2 months. It does seem to make you sweat a lot more in that area, but seriously it worked better as a support than as extra weight loss. It helped me to keep my stomach tight as I worked out and supported my back when lifting weights. I didn't notice a difference really as far as size and weight was concerned, but then again I didn't take pictures or measure I only weighed myself. My stomach area is a lot smaller now, but that could just be due to hard work. I can't say for sure.

I would suggest crunches and situps. Or good ab-routine on tape. This will at least tightent the muscles. Otherwise increase your cardio work-out, your waist will decrease with time. There is really no way to spot train. Fat will only leave when its ready. Unfortunately for most people the waistline is the last place to change. I have the same problem. It just takes discipline. Stick with it and you'll eventually see what you've been waiting for.
Fitness Jogging In Place May 19 2007
14:47 (UTC)
I would say that the difference is that outside there is resistance (hills), which equals more muscles worked and the treadmill keeps a certain pace, which means more calories burned.

While you're jogging on the spot you are forced to keep a pace by yourself and there is no resistance. If you are using a heart rate monitor it might be better because you can keep you heart rate at a certain level. You can also try jogging up the stairs in your house or apartment building.

Otherwise the best thing to do is use a treadmill or jog around the block. It's just a better workout and easier to monitor.

Good luck
Fitness elliptical and building leg muscle May 19 2007
14:37 (UTC)
I can't say for sure but in my opinion the eliptical does build muscle. I too have mostly muscle in my legs and butt. I use it everyday, because I want more defined thigh muscles. I also use resistance.

I guess how much muscle you build depends on how much resistance you are using. Either way the movements are all in the legs (mostly thighs). So you will find that your thighs and glutes are tighter and possibly even bigger especially if they are already muscular. It works for building muscle for me. If you don't want muscle but you like the workout maybe use less resistance or stick with the treadmill. If you're running on the treadmill though, you will also build more leg muscle (that works for me as well).

I'm speaking only from my experience and everyone is different.

I hope this helps.

I would monitor it by how you feel. If you aren't as tired as you used to, you should step it up a bit.

You could even monitor it by heartrate. If you are having trouble keeping your heartrate up it means your body needs to work harder. If you're not at the gym then try to invest in a heart rate monitor.

When it comes to resistance training, you should again monitor it by how hard it is. Usually by the end of a set the area you are working on will feel very warm, you might even feel a burn. If that feeling starts to go away then you need to increase resistance.

Timewise it usually takes about 4-6 weeks (thats how long it took for me anyway).

I'm not an expert but I hope this helps.

I'm glad you could benefit Irwiggins. There are so many people that have it and don't know what to do. It is a medical condition. The dermatologist mentioned that there are a lot of people who think it is something they shouldn't be bothering the doctor with. But while it's not life threatening it is hard to live with.

If you haven't already you should check out www.sweatmanagement.ca.

Good luck!

So I went to the dermatologist yesterday and was diagnosed with hyperhydrosis. They don't know what causes it, apparently it's some kind of mystery thing. He prescribed Botox. Still iffy about whether or not I'll go through with it but he says the results are usually very good. It's an expensive procedure though but not considered cosmetic so a good medical plan will cover it.

Compliment's Chocolate Ice Cream. Only 110 calories for 1/2 a cup. I have like 2 cups...lol. Sooo good. Hit's that chocolate fix. I'd eat it everyday if it wasn't for the fat content. Every week is better than not at all.

Same here sahrens. It really takes a toll on my fashion sense. I used to love to experiment with colours but now I have to stick to dark colours and white. I've heard that hyperhydrosis is genetic so that may have something to do with it.

I think I'll have some tests done. It might be a good idea to get a second opinion. I'm going to see a dermatologist next week as well. He specializes in the underarm area. I don't really want to be injected with anything...but I might just consider it. I'm still looking for a doctor that specializes in generalized hyperhydrosis. One step at a time...thanks for the advice :)

I'm a single mom as well. I go to the gym when my daughters in school, but on her days off I do Tae Bo Boot Camp. It's a great mix of cardio and resistance training. I actually think it's better than a gym workout.

I experienced the 'sag' after giving birth 5 years ago. At the gym I have been doing pectorial flies (55lbs) and chest presses (45lbs). I do them on the stationary weights. I also do push ups. Not only have these exercises given me a great upper body, but its actually the cheapest way to get a breast lift. The muscles underneath grow and make your chest appear more perky.

Hope this helps.
Weight Loss Those of you looking to lose only 10 lbs or less... May 01 2007

Hi,

I'm also trying to lose the last 10lbs. I'm 27 at 145 and I'm 5'4. I'm confused about caloric intake. Right now I'm eating 1200 per day and I work out 5 days a week (cardio and weights). My weight loss has been very slow from the beginning (about 0.5 lbs a week).

I started in February at 152lbs. At first I wasn't really counting calories, only working out and eating a vegetarian diet. Since then I have taken my eating habits more seriously. However I haven't seen any changes in inches, especially around my waist (where pretty much all of my fat is stored).

Is it possible that my intake is too low? That I may have entered starvation mode? I've heard that the range is 1200-1800 but I'm not sure where I fit in that range.

Any ideas?
