I have had a field day finding substitutes for the foods I once loved like a nice juicy cheeseburger and fries. So now I make portabella mushroom burgers on the grill with some cheese and sweet potato fries YUMMM! I do not feel disgusting when I finish and im guilt free considering there is about 20-30 calories in a mushroom cap vs 300 in just the beef i had been consuming. I never realized how few calories there are in veggies. One zucchini is 30 calories! Last night for dinner my husband and I ate grilled zucchini and stuffed mushroom caps for dinner and it was only 300 calories and we were completely stuffed. Mushrooms are a great way to get that fulfilling meaty feeling. I have not really ventured into eating boca burgers or any of the morning star foods, mainly because ive been on a veggie kick lately. And am trying to stay away from processed foods as much as possible. The internet is such a great resource for vegetarian recipes. Do any of you get pressure or rediculed by family and friends for not eating meat?? I have had family members expect me to eat meat because i recently converted so what would be the big deal. And how do you deal with gatherings where a meal is served? Do you ask for a vegetarian option or just bring your own?? |

| I never ever eat a large meal before i go work out, ill eat a banana or apple or energy bar to hold me over. if i eat a lot before working out i end up feeling like im going to puke while during my cardio and its enough to make me stop. its kind of like no swimming for on hour after you eat. and usually i save my largest meal for after im done working out because im typically pretty hungry by then. unless of course i work out later at night... | |||

| YES ooooner explained things the way i wanted it to come out. I
just feel that people should live up to their potential with stuff like
that. Building muscle and seeing the results on your body and stack of weights you are able to increase towards is very gratifying, and boosts your confidence. I do 150-190lbs for legs and 120-150 for arms/shoulders, except curls i do 80lbs. on the seated back extension i max the machine at 285lb. i find it entertaining the looks some men give when they watch you set your weight sometimes. and its an even better feeling having to watch them readjust the weight lower than what you had it. Am i bragging?? maybe a little :) but i think i have that right when ive worked my butt off to be able to do that much, i dont see many other women doing it. Muscle looks a lot better than jiggly fat, and burns more calories as well!! |

| Fitness | Is it Cheating? (Couch to 5k) | Jan 15 2008 23:20 (UTC) |

| its not cheating! it even says in the plan that it is OK to repeat weeks, they just say not to skip ahead. its much better to complete the entire session and build your stamina than to quit because the program seems too tough, you did more than A LOT of people would do...and you kept up with it even when it felt really hard instead of bogging out of it and never doing it again. so keep going!!!! You have to build endurance and that takes everyone a different amount of time, so keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!! | |||

| patches i agree!! and its awesome checking yourself out and seeing definition that wasnt there before its very gratifying as well. A woman is not going to get manly bulging muscles unless she takes supplements...a woman does not have the testosterone to do so on her own! I also find it interesting that people who are trying to lose weight dont clue in to the strength training aspect. cardio burns calories now, while building muscle continues to burn through out the day after you are done working out. both are important! too many women feel that the weight room is a mans world...how are you going to show off those hot abs...if you dont really have any to show off?? again those "pink" dumbells more than likely arent going to do the trick. | |||

| I agree with mike, the gym is scary as hell when you first start.
but then you start seeing familiar faces every day you get to know some
of the staff and by being there you also gain the self confidence from
working out. which busts your ego a little and you are more
comfortable in that environment. I dont look at myself or other
heavy people there and think, ugh go home. i think thats awesome
that we are actually there doing something about the problem. and
rain or snow it will still be open!! but if the gym isnt for you, there are many things you can do outside, hike, jog, walk, the possibilities are endless if youre willing to put up with the weather!! and like ainedb said throw in strength training, burns more calories than fat and boosts your metabolism...and also helps the self confidence when you can see parts of your body bulking up or tightening!! |

| My goal? So i can do my job with ease...and lifting 20lbs at the
gym is not going to get me that. i work in an er and transporting
patients, trying to hold people down, doing chest compressions, moving
400lb people and not hurting my back ect is why i am trying to build
more muscle. And i personally find muscle to be sexy on
people. granted there comes a certain point in my opinion when it
stops looking sexy as veg also said manly bulging muscles.... I agree people have to start somewhere when it comes to strength training, as veg said. but at the end of the day if you are strength training and that is all you do EVERYTIME you do your routine...what is the point? If you can walk in and do 20lbs 10 times with ease and are looking to tone...the 20lbs probably isnt going to do much for you. just my thoughts on it.... |

| I think definition on men and women is attractive. a woman doesnt have to have manly muscles to have definition. I think a woman can still very much keep her feminine figure while still maintaining strong arms and legs. I personally think that women and men both who have a body of a prepuberty teen is rather unattractive. i guess i dont find stick arms and legs to be attractive... | |||

| rosamor, a lot of gyms have dip stations, and you can do your dips, chin ups and pull ups. we have an assisted dip station which i love! its one of the things that i make sure i do 100% of the time, and with the assistance from it you can build yourself up to where you dont need it anymore. I have yet to see a woman hop on there and go about it unassisted...but then again there are only a handful of women there that i have seen actually strength train in the first place. | |||

| i agree the dips and pushups will do TONS for your arms! i do dips at the gym and i can tell a huge difference!! working some strength training into your plan is a really good way to tone up and tighten some of those areas. i would have to disagree with cmama, by doing a low gi diet. the idea of you working to lose weight is to keep it off, and diets dont do that!! also if you lose weight crazy fast but dont do anything to tone those muscles you will still have flabby arms! | |||

| I too got through day one, it was actually much easier than I had
thought it would be...but i also have been doing a similar routine the
past few weeks. i also read the part where it said to NOT jump
forward so i will continue this week. i look forward the the
challenge next week and just hope this week gives me more
endurance. I thought it was a great way to get your running in
though, i didnt feel super tired at the end. i did 40 minutes of
it to make sure i got all my cardio for the day. i walked 3.5mph
and ran 5.5mph which felt good. i feel better full out running
but get tired SOOO fast that i cant do it that long. so the 5.5
is a good start i think. lilreenz, i think your speed is fine...it says to do what works best for you. if thats what youre comfortable doing you can always try to increase your over all time later!! i just want to get the endurance down at the pace im ok going at without being completely beat up and then slowly try to increase at the end. GOOD JOB TO US!!! |

| I AM WITH YOU GUYS!! I have actually started running the past two
weeks to train for UW BADGERS CRAZY LEGS race which is a 8k run.
I have until the end of April to train so thats my plan. I looked
at the site and it looks perfect for me! Right now I cant really
run longer than 3 minutes at 5.0 mph so i warm up with that and then i
keep increasing my speed as i go. so after the three minutes, i
rest for two minutes then i run at 6.0 for a minute and once i get up
to 7.5-8.0mph i only do 30 seconds. i rest about a minute or two
in between. keeps my heart pumping thats forsure. at least
with this plan its more structured!! So consider me in as
well! I must say, it is a pretty awesome feeling to have never ran more than a mile before to want to actually do it. and know that you can do it. great feeling!! |

| Congrats slainna that is AWESOME!! i am very proud of myself, i did not gain anything over the thanksgiving week/weekend. and it was torture, everyone at work was bringing in goodies and what not. i choose to ate fresh fruit over indulging on sweets and i felt much better about myself at the end of the day! I even lost a pound last week. I read an article that said between thanksgiving and the new year the average person gains 5-10lbs. that scared me...A LOT!! I kept my caloric intake in check. That is a lot of weight through the years if one does not lose it after the new year. |

| Congrats molly!! losing 50lbs is HUGE!! you should be extremely
proud of yourself. The day i lose 50lbs will be a very tearful
day, because i have not weighed 230lbs in probably seven to eight
years! Not since high school. Pat 15lbs is also huge, and we just have to keep plugging away, we WILL get there. for me, i have noticed a BIG difference in the way my body looks already, and others notice too which is nice! I went to lane bryant today and can officially say I am out of the 22/24 size. everything looked like a tent, and i loved every bit of it!! GO US!! |

| Hurray down 4.4 inches!! and the greatest thing is that I can NOW
fit into a coat i bought last winter but bought it two sizes smaller
thinking I would one day fit into it...it was a $90.00 coat for
$10.00. at the very least i thought i could sell it on ebay and
it FITS!!! I want to run and scream and shout!! And...i hurt my back on sunday, i think i was trying to lift too much at the gym. So i took the week off to let it heal and i still lost!! I have started counting my calories and using the food log on here which is SOOO nice. And yeah the calories burned vs what is taken in that is calculated on there shows the same results on the scale as well! |

| Weight Loss | How Often Should One Weigh Themselves? | Nov 12 2007 00:33 (UTC) |

| I used to weigh myself EVERY morning, which was great when i was losing 5lbs a week! I liked to see that consistant decrease, and then i stopped losing 5lbs a week and it was driving me nuts to not see the decrease. So i switched to every monday, first thing in the morning. I feel much less obsessive than i did before! and its much more fun to see 2-3lbs off than .5-1lb at a crack!!! | |||

| when i get hit my mini goal im going to get into a fitness class. And have thought about yoga...and the more i hear about it making bedroom life more fun, the more fun it sounds to try it!! I am the other way around, i have much more energy, he has more energy and we desire each other much more. That in itself it a huge motivation. And I agree, having good sex is important in a relationship as much as some like to deny it. Good sex = feeling sexy = good sex in my opinion. one big circle! | |||

| I too am starving in a couple hours after i eat breakfast. I try to eat oatmeal for breakfast, that holds me over MUCH longer. But I also think that because im so hungry, my metabolism is just working more because it has something to work with! I also am now a snacker! I eat 4-6 times a day but little meals. maybe a can of soup and then ill have a snack bag of grapes, and then a granola bar, and so on. I only lost two pounds last week which was REALLY discouraging for me! And i know two pounds is what i should be losing and im happy for that, but the way my clothes fit now I thought it would have be a little more. And then I had my fiance remeasure me. I measured myself the first time...and when he did it, he got larger measurements then i did 3 weeks ago, again frustrating!! But i also think we each were measuring a little different. But my clothes fit great, and cant wait to lose about another 5-10lbs so i can finally be a size smaller!! which is very exciting! Like my fiance said, two pounds a week...104lbs a year, 104lbs lost vs 104lbs gained. cant really complain! Kudos to everyone else who lost this week too. it is HARD but the support from everyone helps SOOO much! | |||

| I absolutely love this site! I feel so at home here, and its nice to listen to people with serious weight issues who are actually working to become healthier/thinner. It has been 6 weeks since my fiance and I started working out at the gym and eating healthy. And we can see such a difference in our bodies already. I started at 289lb and my goal is 140lb. I know it will take awhile, but thats ok. I would rather do this the healthy way. I have lost 20lbs and he has lost 25lbs. I have visible muscle in my arms and legs!! And my back role is getting smaller and smaller! I go to the gym 6-7 days a week. I generally don't like to skip a work out, i feel guilty. Tonight was a true test of our will power. We didnt feel like cooking and said lets order something. We looked at a few pizza menus at home and both said god no...we will feel SOOO crappy from the grease, and even more crappy knowing we just consumed 1000+ calories in one setting. So we made chicken wraps out of the fridge and felt great after. I love working out because it reflects my eating habits. I watch a lot closer what i put in my mouth, because if I were to chow a bag of chips...that workout earlier would be for nothing! I wish i could see what I would actually look like at 140lbs heck even 200lbs! Its been A LONG time since ive even weighed 200lbs. I hope others arent offended that i am gleaming, but this is the first time that I have ever stayed committed this long to a weight loss program. Everything else i have tried has been crash diets that yeah I would lose a lot, but really quickly and always gained that and more back. So thank you for listening. I look forward to hearing the rest of your stories, and to listen be it a good day or a bad day. | |||

| I have not had any issues with the candy. but at the same time if i feel like eating chocolate i will have a piece of dark chocolate and move on. I have learned that if i am craving something to have just a little bit and it is usually enough to allow the craving to pass. there is a difference between indulging on a mini snickers and indulging on a whole bag of mini snickers. | |||

| the thing that has urked the crap out of me the most the past couple of
weeks are people who machine hop! when im doing circuit training
and going at a good pace and then someone jumps on the next flipping
machine im going on is sooooo rude and annoying. and those who
sit down on a machine and do 50-100 of each exercise, when there is a
line behind them. do your 10-15 get up go to the next machine in
order and then another 10-15. if you want to do that many you
need to come back to the machine in my opinion instead of making
everyone else wait. it annoys me that they have a 30 min limit at
a time for some of the cardio but dont post any rules on the circuit
trainging machines. I understand there may be certain machines
you want to use for your strength traning but have respect for those
who are actually doing the entire thing and dont jump in front of
them. I know feel better! |
