New month, new stats!  Not anything drastic, just steady as she goes  Considering I moved out of state last month, started a new job, and have done NO exercising, I"m impressed with losing the additional inch around my waist and hip!  I stayed at 142 for the longest time...3 weeks!  Most who do fast5 say that it's common to plateau at 3 months.  I'm still on schedule with losing one pound a week.  Sure love the way I look, and I haven't said that in years!

What I found is that I seemingly ate alot the first week.  That changed dramatically, and I quit craving foods and I quit binge eating.  It's been two months now, and I stopped counting calories two weeks ago because it was too time consuming.  I just don't need to anymore.  This way of eating is so natural, I don't even think about it.   When my eating window arrives, I eat what I want when I'm hungry and I don't when I'm not.  It's that simple.

What sucks is practically none of my clothes fit now, and I have to buy new sizes or have the things I want to keep altered.  Here are my latest stats:

BEFORE      AFT ER

155 lbs        142 lbs

waist 36"     35"

hip 42"           39"

thigh 23"      22" Smile

arm 12       1 1.5

What is so remarkable about these numbers is that while it is a gradual weight loss, I have dropped two, almost three sizes in clothing (from size 12 to 8, sometimes 6.)

Something else worth noting, I quit riding my bike about 3 weeks ago.  That was something I was doing regularly, and I intend to begin again before I post my next stats.  I wanted to mention it, however, because exercise is NOT required to acheive these results.

Sorry that I don't have a calorie average to report, but like I said, I quit counting weeks ago.  I still think about what I'm eating, ofcourse.  Now I just make better food choices, and that includes the occassional splurge!

No worry.  During the adjustment phase, which is three weeks, I tweaked my eating and the 5 hour window to suit my schedule.  Now it feels so normal, I don't even think about it.  It's like my body has been rebooted somehow.

Currently, what I do is eat beginning at 3pm or 4 pm.  The longer I wait, the longer the window stays open (but I don't continually eat for 5 hours.)  Usually, I start with a salad and some vegetables/fruits, being sure to include protein.  I eat until I'm full, and after a couple of hours, I usually have a snack; popcorn or yogurt with blueberries, ground flax and wheat germ.

On occassion (socially) I dine out.  Example:  today, I had two slices of pizza and 4 meatballs in maranara sauce (4pm)  FULL!  I ate two dolmas at 6pm.  I rode my bike for an hour (7:00 - 8:00) and when I got home, I had yogurt with blueberries, ground flax and wheat germ.  FULL!  No more eating until tomorrow....beginning around 3 or 4.

My choices today did not include very many vegetables, but was high in carbs, so tomorrow I will eat plenty vegetables, protein and low carb.

To answer your question, I don't really think about whether or not I have eaten two 800 calorie meals.  Perhaps it is more like eating 3 meals in that time slot.  It's more accurate, I think, to say I eat one meal a day (late afternoon) that is anywhere between 1200-2000 calories, depending what I'm doing and where I am.  I hope that makes sense.

You can do it lots of different ways!  It really makes me realize when I am actually hungry and when I am not.  I am so intune to what my body is saying now.  I LOVE how I no longer crave food all day long.

I think it's important to let you know that I didn't loose any weight the first six or seven days.  It was very frustrating!  Then, only a pound or two...

My first week, I ate some nutritionally horrendous things when my window opened.....a plate of curly fries, a hot dog, a bag of M &M's while I was attending a bluegrass festival.

The second week, I still remember eating at my favorite meat + 3 restaurant:  hamburger steak, fried okra, pinto beans and cornbread and a slice of homemade chocolate cake (no lie.)  I didn't continue to eat that way every day, of course.

Two weeks ago, I visited my Mom.  I knew when I told her that I wasn't going to eat until after 3:30, she was going to flip out, cuz she's a mom.  However, once the window opened, I ate a handful of potato chips, and then consumed the dinner she prepared:  roasted chicken, peppridge farm stuffing/dressing, and fried summer squash.  That seemed to ease her mind, and I tried to explain to her that it's kinda like eating one big meal a day.

Finally, (while I'm offering you a sampling of my occassional splurges) on my return roadtrip from my mom's, I ate some leftover stuffing I packed for the drive, sliced canteloup, and one large butterscotch dipped ice cream cone from Dairy Queen.

Those are my decadent deviations. IMPORTANT --> The other meals I've had are rather normal, consisiting of MOSTLY fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) occassional pasta, several dolmas, a bag or two of microwave popcorn, a piece of 99% dark chocolate here and there....nearly no meat except to season vegetables.

Thank you so much!  You just made my day.  I really needed to hear how the criticism is annoying.   Tongue out

I am beyond happy with finally finding something that works, and if it wasn't for Calorie Count, I would never have discovered this option.  I just want to give back to the community.  This plan is not for everyone, but by grannies, it's working for me.

I love Calorie Count, and it has been a vital tool for me in conjunction with my new eating pattern.

How did you do your math?  I came up with 1680 calories average.  I am monitoring my food analysis and nutritional count meticulously.  I invite you to review it.   I also keep a journal.  I can add you as a buddy and you can read it.  Regarding fatty food cravings, these have been totally eliminated for me.  Formerly, it was a problem I experienced.

I haven't experienced faint, disorientation, headaches.....nothing of the sort!

I am not promoting this.  I am simply revealing my experience for those who are interested.

I am through the 3-week adjustment phase and sailing along into my first
month this week. I have adhered to not breaking the fast until 19
hours have passed, while tweaking my window to better suit me
personally or as my schedule required. I have kept a food log, but I
wouldn't say I've made an effort to restrict my calories. The most
amazing thing to me is I didn't have to. I have become remarkably
aware when I'm hungry, and when I'm not. I still eat too much after
I'm full, so that's something I'm still working on. But the true
magic for me has been that the cravings are gone. I no longer graze
all day long and through the late night. It's so bizare to go into a
convenient store and walk the candy aisles and think to myself, "What
do I want?" Then I realize, I don't want any! And I walk away
with ease.

Don't get me wrong, when I'm hungy, I'm really hungry! But that
really makes the food I choose to eat worthwhile.

I don't exercise much, and I'm certainly no athlete. But I ride my
bike around leisurely nearly everyday for an hour. I estimate I
probably burn no more than 300 calories. I stretch and do light
weights to keep my arms toned. That's about it.

I've lost eight pounds, but as others have said, it really is in the
inches. I know this from the clothes I can wear now, and seeing my
hip bones for the first time in years. I'm logging my inches and
weight on the 19th of each month (because I started on June 19.)
I'll post my stats in my next progress report.

I'm exercising, too!  Once my dinner has settled, I ride my bike for an hour.  I rarely have an appetite afterwards.  Yesterday, I was having a hard time waiting for the window to open, so I did yoga (which shouldn't be done after eating, anyway.)  After running through my routine, my window had been open for thirty minutes!  The food was delicious:  fruit, salad, high fiber cereal, followed by vegetables, organic pasta...amounting to about 1200 calories!

Late night snacking?  Eliminated!! Smile

I really don't see it as a diet, but a change in when I eat.  Like I said, I'm one of those people who finds it nearly impossible to stop eating AT NIGHT.  My breakfast used to be about 500 healthy calories, lunch about 400, and dinner about 500.  What killed me was the snacking, especially at night (popcorn, fruit, raw vegetables, a cocktail, etc.)  By the time my day was over, I was averaging 2500-3200 calories.

At first, I thought I would try fasting every other day, and when I was searching for that topic, I learned about the fast-5.

So this is working for me.  It is NOT a fast weight loss plan, either.   I find when I wake up, I'm not at all hungry.  After sleeping 7-8 hours of the 19 hours...only 11 to go without eating.  I feel some hunger around 2ish....but then there is only 3 hours left until brake~fast.

I've been on it for a week, and I've met my goal -- to cut out 1000 extra calories that I was formerly eating ABOVE what I need to be consuming to lose weight.

I find it very, very easy to go all day without eating, and it's getting easier.  I don't "binge", when its time to eat, but I do enjoy quality nutritional foods when the window opens.  After fasting all day, my stomach fills up quickly at around 400-500 calories, and then I can't eat another morsel!  A couple of hours later, I eat another 400-500 calories.  Then it's time to go to bed, on a full stomach, which isn't comfortable, so now I realize that I will have to make adjustments to accomodate the 1200-1500 calories that I normally need.  The calorie counting is the diet.

Tomorrow I'm beginning my second week, and I'm going to make the following adjustments.  Tonight, I will quite eating at 9 PM.  Tomorrow, I will brake~fast at 4 PM.   (It doesn't matter when you brake~fast as long as the fast is for 19 consecutive hours.)   Gra dually, I want the window to grow smaller for me, so that I no longer continue to eat late the evening.  Then I hope to reasonably control eating 1200-1500 calories and stopping until the next day.  I will not likely ever eat breakfast regularly again since I've been forcing myself to do so all this time (over a year) anyway.

Oh no, spirochete.  It sounds like your sister really had anorexia.  That is not what this is at all.  If you read the little book, it warns about this and advises you to seek professional help in the event this occurs.

I sincerely hope your sister had a healthy recovery.

I received this great post from the support group I belong to.  It's a keeper, so I'm including it here with my originating thread.  Maybe someday, someone like me will do a search regarding this eating style at this terrific calorie counting site.  Then maybe I'll have a support forum here.

Hello Elvis -   Welcome!  You've joined a growing phenomenon that is changing lives!  I've been doing FF for about 4 months now.  I absolutely LOVE it!   I LOVE that I can eat higher quality foods without guilt because I'm not eating them all day long!  For me, I've had to dwindle my window down a bit to see the progress I want to see.  And I'm saving so much money!   But the big thing that I have to keep reminding myself that's different with this WOE is that I don't have to give up things.  I don't have to give up chocolate that I love or creamer in my coffee.  I just have these in my window.    I also have realized that I CAN go a full 24hours and maybe longer without food.  I won't pass out or die like my psyche has lead me to believe all these years.  The fear of not having food is gone .  I'm not consumed by what time of day it is and 'is it almost lunch' or 'oh have to stop work so I can eat'.  It has been very enlightening and liberating!  Food no longer has control over ME!   And when that chocolate treat or ice cream or yummy muffin peaks into my life outside of my window I DON"T CAVE!  I'm able to laugh it off and say 'I'll just eat it in my window'.   It's been a challenge for me to push my window further and further back.  I have enjoyed this.  LIke i said, I'm saving some bucks here and with these gas prices, I'm cutting it everywhere I can.   Good luck stay on the plan, remember you don't need to shorten your window to see results.  Eat what you want and enjoy!  I think the loss you'll see, knowing what you've eaten will be motivation enough.  But we're all here for you anyway! karen

Today is day 6 for me.  I've lost a pound.  It really isn't a diet so much as an eating style.  I am adapting this style ALONG WITH CALORIE COUNTING.  I need to stay between 12-1500 calories, and I was having no success with eating two meals that I particularly didn't care for -- breakfast and lunch.  That was an addtional 500-700 calories that I have to do without.

This is a very adaptable plan as long as you fast for 19 hours.  Some use a different window than I do, but I find limiting my eating only between 5-10 PM works for me.  That is my problem time.

Thanks!  I've been on it for a week now.  It's not so bad, and it really addresses my problem -- eating about 1000 calories too many, specifically at night.

I'm really glad you posted this.  I downloaded the pdf file from the website, and I've decided to give it a try.  It might work for me because I eat great through the day, but I have such a problem with eating at night.

I am 5'3 and 1/2, weigh 165 pounds (though I purposely set my scale to read 5-7 lbs heavy.)  I have been monitoring my food intake meticulously for almost 30 days.  I eat all the right foods, but I eat 1000 calories too many.

I hope this works for me.  I'm 49 years old, and I'm starting to have knee issues.  They make noise and when they do, I get the same feeling some people get when they hear fingernails scraping against a chalkboard.

I'm going to start my log today.  If you want to be my friend and see what happens, I'll add you.  Thanks again!
