Sorry to get political, but that is why you guys in the US need universal healthcare! In Canada, we don't even think twice about going to the doctor...I can't imagine having to hold off on seeing a doctor for what you're going through! Universal healthcare isn't socialist; it's a right that everyone should have! |

I'm not counting calories anymore because a few months ago, I got obsessive about it but I do keep my own food diary and check the calorie count for foods I'm unfamiliar with. Here's a description of my day, I think it probably adds up to 1500-1700 cals.
11:00 AM small bowl of cheerios with 2% milk, scrambled eggs with onions and peas (cooked with cooking spray), 1 orange
1:00 PM grande coffee with sugar free caramel and half and half
3:00 PM Earls' Sante Fe Blackened Chicken salad (dried dates, corn, black beans, lots of mixed greens, grilled blackened chicken, a light vinaigrette, a few bites of avocado), diet coke, 2 piece of pita bread and a bit of spinach dip
7:00 PM 2 pieces of pita bread and a bit of spinach dip, baby carrots and spinach dip
9:00 PM red beet soup, 1 chicken drumstick (boiled in the borscht)
10:30 PM 4 squares of Dove dark chocolate |

First of all, I LOVE THIS POST! I think about this often, about how my eating habits would be if I were living on my own instead of with my SO. He's super lean and can eat anything. He used to be a competitive mountain biker and snowboarder, so he is super athletic and therefore really, really supportive of my fitness goals. But, he's lacking in the nutrition and diet side, he'd rather me pig out of chips, candy, etc with him than cook a healthy dinner! So I'm trying to eat better despite it all.... it would be nice if he were more into healthy eating, but I love him lots nonetheless. |

"interesting indeed... an article in Runner's World saying to run more " Haha, I know what you mean. Just to make it clear though, the intention of this post is to start a discussion; I neither agree or disagree with the article. For me, a combination of cardio (be it cycling, running, whatever), strength training and yoga seems to be best. I try to strive for balance, never one thing over another. |

| Weight Loss | I was nervous about weighing myself and today I did.... | Feb 26 2009 07:02 (UTC) |

Thanks for your post guys... tealparadise, thanks for your kind words! And you are absolutely correct, it's a lifestyle I'm living not a diet. I am stronger, more energetic and alert. But...the scale-episode seriously threw me in a mood! melissaann, I have been tracking measurements and after writing my post, I measured myself again and lost 0.5 inches on my waist and thigh circumference so that's a little pick me up. I hope the scale catches up soon! figurethefat, you're right, I should run more but because I just started a running program, I am working at increasing my mileage 10% per week to avoid injury. On top of running, I also walk a minimum of 6K, 5 days per week, to and from work. I also snowboard, mountain bike and cycle on the road a few times per week. I'm really active, but there's definitely room to grow there as well. I think I might need to reevaluate my food intake... My typical day: Mornings: eggs scrambled with onions and zucchini, cooked on a non-stick pan with cooking spray and an apple or orange. a large coffee with sugar-free caramel and a dash of half and half. Snack: Diet coke. Or 4-5 raw almonds. Lunch: Soup (chicken, red beet, or tomato) and almonds. (Something quick and low in calories) Snack: snap peas or baby carrots. Dinner: Roasted broccolli (delicious! a drizzle of olive oil, sprinkle of salt and stick it in the oven for 10-15mins...mmm), grilled chicken breasts. Or other times, I have sushi; like a salmon sashimi salad or something. Before bed: I get way too hungry before bed if I don't eat something so I usually have a piece of fruit, or a small portion of yogourt (sugar-free, fat-free). Sometimes I'll have a sugar-free, small fudgesicle (it keeps my sweet tooth at bay and is only 40 calories!!) When I'm out with friends though, I stick to my eating plan but the wine totally throws off my diet! I usually have 2-3 glasses...YIKES! I'm guessing that's where my calories are going??

Wow, what great responses everybody! Thank you for your responses! After I wrote my question, I went out and did my run, while keeping in mind that reading the replies to this post will be my reward for when I finish :) I had a great time, ran down to the beach, found an interesting trail and no stiches! Although, I did stop a few times and took it a little slower than yesterday. kaila_a, your story sounds similar to mine. I'm 5'3, have always been around 120-125lbs and now have gained 15-20 pounds since college. Hopefully, running will do for me what it has done for you! mkculs, that's a great tip! I'm gonna make use of it on my run tomorrow; thanks!
If any more people have tips or motivational stories, I'd love to hear them too! |

I get nothing done at all! I love to ground myself when I have alone time. Usually, I'll draw a bath, have some wine, play/write music. Or, I get really dorky and rent Star Trek movies :P |

I over indulged too. But I had a great Thanksgiving weekend and I'm happy to be getting back into my routine! Glad I wasn't not the only one who fell off the wagon for a little bit; I was feeling kind of guilty! :) |

I'm in!
Name: Rebecca Age: 22 I want to get back into shape, look better and feel better. Also, I want to build strength and endurance for the snowboard season! I got to my weight now by not watching what I eat, and not caring enough for my body. I'm a bit of a yo-yo dieter with a defeatist attitude. My goal is to become more active and athletic, eat fresh foods and stay positive! |

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
