i agree with the yoga suggestions.  its basically just a nice long stretching session, but boy is it a great weight loss workout! i think youll get what youre looking for out of it. rent a dvd from the library, no gym membership required!

Fitness Walk or Run for fitness? Apr 29 2009
16:46 (UTC)

i know what you mean about the weight falling off when you run--i was hardcore distance running a couple years ago and the weight did come off quicker, but i guess i was just hoping a nice, hard walk would do the trick too. maybe someone will have an encouraging powerwalking weightloss story to encourage us!

ive done the building-up-mileage thing in the past when i trained for a 1/2 marathon 2 years back, and i also just ramped up my standard 5k to 10k for a run in early April. but honestly, im just looking to maintain a 5k now, not increase. so is running the better maintenance sport, or is fast walking?

man, our vending machine is the saaaame story. i pretty much never succomb except on the rarest of occasions (we're talkin 3 times in 2008), but today I was so close! I'm really happy I didn't, and I have to say knowing I was on this site kind of helped! It's a good motivator, isn't it?

aw kindal, i know how this one goes. i ate a movie-sized bag of m&m peanuts the other day--2000 cals. what the hell was i thinking...

you 'fessed up, you came clean, now forgive youreself and move on. no point dwelling on it. That won't burn the cals off.

wake up today with a new attitude and a fresh start. eat your veggies, drink your water and go for a fantastic, long, sweaty workout.

way to go being honest! i really appreciate you posting, it lets me know im not alone in my mistakes! good luck today. :)

Fitness When do I start to see results from running? Feb 10 2009

Original Post by wesmckean:

Your body will also retain water to help repair muscle.  Don't be surprised if your wieght fluctuates 3-4 pounds between days.  it took almost 2-3 months before I saw any appreciable weight loss.  I plateued in the 200-205 range (from 235), then I plateaued again at 190-195, and now at 180-185...  Running is a great way to lose weight and stay balanced, but you have to dedicate yourself to your nutrition to make it happen.

Yep, same for me. It took 2 months or so before I started to see results, then I'd periodically plateau for awhile. Stick with it, eat your veggies and you will definitely see results!

Foods Should You Watch Your Sodium Intake? Feb 10 2009

I actually just did a bit of research on this to see if thats the case. It turns out that standard table salt (NaCl as we all learned in chem class...or Bill Nye, haha) is the primary ingredient in ocean salinity, meaning seasalt is basically the same as table salt.

Is this true though? Has anyone heard anything different?

Weight Loss 7 day cabbage soup diet... should i dare? Feb 10 2009

this is gross but i might as well say it:

cabbage soup for a week? get ready to toot! horrible, stinky, lose-your-friends kinda toots. I'm just sayin.

crash diets dont work, so just focus on exercising 5-6 days a week and doing your calorie deficit! it worked for so many men and women on this site, it will work for you. calorie deficit is science. cabbage diet is nonsense. farty nonsense!

HOWEVER, good luck in whatever you choose to do! :)

He said that becuase he knew it would hurt your feelings the way you hurt his feelings. Two wrongs don't make a right but that's how it goes nowadays :[

Hey, you don't like him at all so why should his opinion matter anyways? Just remember you didn't want a relationship with him anyways so it's better off with him disliking you as much as you dislike him.

YES YES YES!! Absolutely, he was just trying to hurt you back. What it actually means is that he wanted you to like him and it hurt that you don't!  Could this toolbag actually like you??? If so, he has a long way to go on social skills, but in the meantime don't worry about him, you hurt him plenty by what you said at the party, he just wanted you to like him so bad and it didn't work! Score one for you.

PS: your pics are incredible--40lbs!! That's insane! Keep it up you look absolutely fantastic. :)

Lovely, I have to say this: your bf's statment is really jerky. He's just NOT right!! Girls can look good in lots of sizes. If Beyonce was a size 0 would guys still think she was just as hot? Guys say they want skinny, but at the end of the day its big boobs, a nice booty and great hips that get them going, isn't it?

And so, yet again, we prove that men know nothing in matters of fashion. Laughing

Don't let him get you down. You need SUPPORT to get to the healthy weight you want. Don't listen to nay sayers, Lovely! Dress to the 9's, look gorgeous and prove him WRONG!

I'm training for a triathlon in June and I love Nike+!  I almost never ran before I got it (I've been a swimmer my whole life and could never run to save my life!)  Now I run all the time.  It's my main exercise in the winter (I should be swimming on my masters team but I hate getting out of the water in winter and going outside to have my hair freeze!)

I've never friend requested anybody on Nike+.  How does it work?

Anyway, I'm now training for the run (5k) but I want to get up to a 10k and even longer.  I would love to do Escape from Alcatraz one day (San Francisco) and that run is much longer.

All I know is that it's totally worth it!  You can't swim everywhere, and you can't take your bike with you everywhere, but you can run anywhere!

very cool good luck with your training!! ill keep you posted on how my runs are going. let me know if you do push for that 10k!

Hey,

I'm not doing a 10k, but I am doing a Half Marathon in late March. I'm currently following a marathon training schedule (but just the first 9 weeks.) This week is 3 miles, 4 miles, 3 miles, 7 miles.

I did my first 5 miler a few weeks ago and, like txmom04 said, it felt amazing. I wish I could do it all the time but I know if I increase my weekly mileage by more than 10%/week, then I am highly susceptible to an overuse injury (this goes for everyone.)

I had a similar training regimen when I ran my half for Team in Training. Good luck on your race! Half the distance, double the heart! :)

oh my gosh, sweetie this has to stop! i want to show you some of the things you wrote up there, because maybe it's different from this side of the page:

  1.  I wish that I could go days without eating.
  2.  I feel disgusted with myself and ashamed to be in public.
  3.  I want to slap myself as scream: "JUST BE NORMAL, YOU MORON!
  4. DON'T **** EAT IT, YOU FAT IDIOT!!!

Honey, your problem is not in the fridge. At the risk of pulling an Oprah, I'm going to say this right now: you need to apologize to yourself for being so mean! Would you ever say those things to someone else? If you said those things above to me, I would cry. And then I'd punch you. Because that is horrible and unexcusable.

I'm so, so glad you posted here for help, because it shows you want to get better! You made a mistake, you were FAR too hard on yourself. It's time to say I'm sorry to the girl you have been hurting so much, dust yourself off, pick yourself back up and eat MODERATELY, exercise MODERATELY. It sounds like you already know this. Way to go! You can do this!

And now most importantly: POST AGAIN! Please don't leave us hanging, because we really do care and we want to know that you are getting better!

I'm so sorry you're feeling so low. I really, really hope you give yourself a break soon. :)

You must try the new Odwalla bars they are yuuum. Also a huge fan of Clif and Luna.

I love the bars for that mini-meal between work/gym and home at the end of the day. Also makes for a smaller dinner.

Not that I think that artificial anything is healthy, but I can't stand artificial sweeteners.  packaged products are always way too sweet - sickening actually.  Those "lite" yogurts are disgusting.  "Diet" juices sweetened with Splenda have an everlasting aftertaste that just won't quit.  I can't believe anybody can stand anything things that sweet.

I prefer to limit my sugar rather than make things sweeter with junk.

HEAR HEAR! The fake sugary, sucralose taste is so sooty and lab-created. And it gives me a headache to boot! No thanks! When my diet coke friends espouse the joys of their favorite soda, I just can't seem to agree. Why wouldn't you take a nice apple juice or green tea over the chem-runoff taste of fake sugar drinks?

And fake sugar in my baked goods? Boy, you have GOT to be kidding me...
