Okay, I'm WAY behind on reading posts with NO time to catch up. But I have to ask. Who's having a baby and when is it due? I want to play. Wink But can I ask questions first?

Just a real quick note here. I'm off to deliver a baby today. Yeah!

Bonnie - The agave nectar is liquid about the consistancy of syrup. And it works great as a pancake syrup, too. But remember it is a natural sugar and does have calories. 60 per tablespoon. But it is much better than anything processed. My daughter cooks with it too.

Send me happy birth day thoughts for today. Talk to you all later.

Chris - Yes my dinner was great as Bonnie said. But I really did eat too much. I would have done better but Larry ordered the Formaggio in Carrozza as an appetizer and I pigged out. I also had a glass of wine, some vegetable soup and their special which was Ravioli alla Vodka. It was all excellent.

I'm using the NM site but you are all right that the database is lacking. But the neat thing is when ever anyone adds something to it, then it shows up for everyone. I like that feature. I also like the fact that when I go way over on one day it adjusts what I need to do for the next few days to make up. Of course that means I still have to log everything. And logging everything from last night wasn't easy. I had to estimate on several things. But I managed.

Where is Robbie's flan recipe? I missed that and I LOVE flan.

Oh, I shouldn't be talking about food. Embarassed Today has been a bit more tough because I'm trying to go really light to make up for yesterday.

Have any of you heard of Agave Nectar? My daughter told me about it and it's really good. It is sugar but it metabolizes much slower. So supposedly even diabetics can have it. I'm going to try it out on my husband. But I mixed a small amount in some Greek yogart today and it was wonderful. It totally satisfied my hunger cravings, was only 140 calories and 15 grams of protien too! It was also my first time to try the Greek yogart. I bought the kind with 0% fat. It was very good and it is very high in protien which is why I tried it.

just4menow - Don't worry if you can't do as much exercise as you would like. Just keep moving. That is key. I am always inspired when I see stories about handicapped athletes. So if they can do what they do, I'm sure you can find ways to burn calories and build muscle. You will just have to be more creative than most of us. Have you considered weight lifting?

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Welcome Just4menow! I hope you will stick around because this is a very encouraging group of ladies. We all come from differing backgrounds and places. But we are friends who support one another.

My name is Beth. I've reached my weight loss goal (using CC) and am now maintaining and trying to push myself to become even stronger. I live in South Texas and I'm a midwife. That explains my screen name. Smile And I'm 54 with 3 grown children and 12 grandchildren. I can relate you being motivated to be there for the grandkids. That's one of my own biggest motivators. It was a trip to the ER with heart problems that got my attention about 2 years ago. But I changed my lifestyle, lost 55 lbs and it is SO worth it!

Start chatting and let us get to know you. We'd love to support you and be there for you.

I figured I better log in today because tomorrow will be crazy. Tomorrow is our anniversary... 36 years! Yahoo! Laughing But silly me, scheduled prentals all day long! So we will end up celebrating on Wednesday instead. We will probably go to our favorite Italian restaurant.

I've been eating with a small deficit for about a week now. I didn't tell Larry because he will worry about me loosing more weight. But I really want to get rid of the fat in my thighs. I know I have some loose skin but it's more than that. The working out has really helped. I just need to keep it up and increase. I tried increasing my weights at Body Pump class on Saturday but couldn't finish my set. So I had to go back to what I have been using. But I'm getting close. I can tell. Maybe I can increase next week.

I'm really making good use of the NuriMirror website. It's helping me get a lot more balanced in my eating. I've done well on calories but getting the best balance of fats, carbs and protein has been difficult for me. That and watching the sodium. The tools on the other site just show the progress during the day which really helps me know where to focus most.

Please forgive me for not posting privately to you all. My life has been so distracting lately. But you are each in my thoughts. Have a great week,

Beth

Ohio - OUCH!!!! Surprised I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse but that sounds painful. I don't have a clue what to do about the iodine. I hope the bleach helps.

BEB - Glad to hear that you and Rick are doing better.

Kathy - I missed the post about 44 miles. I'll have to go find that one. You must be really doing great.

ooops, I gotta go. I'll write more later.

I just found a really good website for logging. It's called NurtiMirror. I think it's much easier to use than CC. Now NutriMirror doesn't have as good of support and forums as CC but the tools are super good and user friendly. Check it out. I think I'm going to log my food and exercise using NM from now on. Is it terribly tacky to recommend another site on this one Embarassed ? Don't worry, I won't leave CC. I still love my friends and this forum here.

Hey everyone,

I only have a minute to say "hi" because I have 3 interviews starting in 15 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my scale down to 148.2 this morning. But I also skipped my Friday morning jog/walk. I was just too beat from not getting enough sleep the night before. It's overcast here today. So I'm hoping the weather holds long enough for me to get a walk in this afternoon after my interviews.

My meeting with the congressman went well. Not much to report but we were received well and I *think* we made a positive impression.

I just read everyone's posts and I'm sorry I don't have time to comment individually but I do have to say real quickly to Robbie that you look lovely in your new pic.

Have a great day. I'll check back later today or this weekend.

Good morning ladies!

I'm off to a positive start this morning. The scale said 149.6 Yahoooo! Laughing I guess Snow was right. That "fresh" weight is easier to loose. It's probably easier to gain back too. So I'm being extra diligent about logging for a while. I just finished "wogging" - jogged for 22 minutes and walked for 25. I did my 3 miles around the park. It was windy. It sure was hard running into the wind and uphill. I almost quit but because I was counting I didn't let myself.

I have an appointment this afternoon with my congressman to talk to him about including midwives in the new health care reform. It's a critical time for CPMs. If we aren't on the government approved list by September then when 2015 rolls around we won't be able to get paid by any insurance companies or Medicaid. Currently, most private insurance companies pay me but Medicaid doesn't. So if things go our way, it will be much better for us. But if they don't ... well... I don't want to think about that. SurprisedSo it's off to do my part at lobbying. I'm taking a group of clients with me. Laughing

Helene - Drink lots and lots of water and make sure you are getting plenty of the healthy fats and oils in your diet or take supplements. Evening Primrose Oil is especially good for the skin. I moved from tropical south Texas to the west Texas Panhandle once and getting acclimated to the dryer climate was really hard. It was SO dry in west Texas that my hands and my lips bled the first year. Eventually I got used to it but it sure is different from the tropical climate I'm used to.

BEX - Why is that every neighborhood seems to have one of those snooty neighbors. In my neighborhood it's a woman who always calls the city every time anyone puts the wrong kind of trash out at the wrong time. An elderly woman next to me had to haul all her brush to her back yard for just a week because this other neighbor complained about her putting the brush out too early! Good grief, she's almost 80 years old! Give her some respect!

Bonnie - and for the neighbor with binoculars... I have a story. One of my very conservative clients told me they had a neighbor who kept looking in their windows with binoculars. So the husband mooned her one day! I about died when they told me this story because they are an ultra conservative family. But they had had enough. The neighbor stopped snooping too. Embarassed

Alice - I loved the pictures! The places you hike are so beautiful! I'm sure hiking is a wonderful exercise. The problem for me is that everything is so flat around here.

BEX - enjoy your trip! I'm sure it will be beautiful but I think I would freeze! I get cold in 50 degree weather!

Chris - I hope you survive today. I still have to figure out what to do about that non-profit we started. We literally haven't done anything with it. But I think I am supposed to file something to report it has no income. I'm not too worried but it is another thing to get done today.

Snow must be really busy with her new job. I hope we hear from her and I hope she is doing well. I got a private email from a really nice lady named Pam. I invited her to join us here. I hope she does.

Ya'll have a great day Wink,

~ Beth

Hi Girls,

Chris - Thanks for the compliments. I was nervous about posting a swim suit picture but then figured why not? After all, I do wear it out in public. Embarassed

Robbie - I love sweet pickles in my deviled eggs. Sweet pickles and mustard. And I am definitely Southern. But I have no clue if it is a southern thing.

Bonnie - Take care of yourself, girl! You and your sister are still in my prayers.

Helene - Why is it that parents (especially mothers) always seem to know how to "push our buttons"? I like the line from the sit com Mad About You... "It's because they are the ones who installed those buttons!" You are in a tough place when your mother wants to be so sad. I had a lot of that with my mom when she was alive. It wasn't always bad but there were times when she just drove me nuts. My mother also lost a son and that brother's birthday was the day before mine. I grew up with always knowing my mother would be down in the dumps the day before my birthday because she would morn for him. But she did manage to be fine by the next day. But it took me a long time (well into my adult years) to deal with my resentment and feelings about this. It sounds to me like you are dealing with your mother just fine. You can't control how she responds but you can control yourself and it sounds like you are doing just fine. [[HUGS]]

Bear - the Curves workout sounds great. So is it a class? How does that work with the machines?

BEB - I don't think "snapping" myself would do me any good. I'd probably just end up with blisters on my wrists from doing it so much Embarassed. But hey, if it's working for you, that's great. It reminds me of some movie I saw once where a guy shocked himself for something. I can't remember the details but I remember it being funny.

BEX - You're going to the Artic?!!!  Did I miss an earlier post about this? Wow, that's sounds like an adventure.

Well, greetings to everyone else that I didn't mention by name today. I'm working today but have a rather long lunch. This morning my weight was back down to 150.2. I'm eating on a deficit again for a while anyway because my weight was creeping back up.

Tomorrow is the 15th and I just realized that my husband and I started a non-profit this year that we've done nothing with. It has no income or expenses but I just realized that I still need to file something with the IRS for it. What a drag! Now, I've got to figure out how to do that before tomorrow. There just aren't enough hours in the days!

Blessings everyone,

Beth

Hi everyone,

Wow, I've read everyone's posts for two days in a row now. Smile I'm improving.

Well, I weighed in today and was up like I suspected. 151.8. Hopefully, it will be back down by tomorrow morning. I'm thinking it was just the sodium in the Chinese food the night before.

My body pump class was this morning and it was another great workout. I recently increased my weights again. 8 kil for the large muscle groups and 6 kil for the small muscle groups. I think that's about 17.6 lbs for large muscle groups and 13.2 lbs for the small ones. I only use 2 1/2 kil for lunges though. And that's a big improvement for me because I couldn't do lunges at all when I first started the class. I've only recently added the weights and I still don't always use them. These long legs of mine are not easy to do lunges with. I'm getting much better with squats though and I do use 8 kil when I do squats. I decided today that I need to do a little extra work on my left arm though because I can clearly tell it's not getting as good a workout. I think my right side is carrying most of the load even though we always use both sides with the bar bell.

I still don't color my hair. I'm too lazy and I've come to like my gray. It works for me, I think. But some of you guys look really great with the youthful color in your hair. I do have to brag. Yesterday for the first time in many years someone told me that I look younger than my age. I was so shocked. No one has told me that in a very long time. I know it's because I've lost weight and am working out. It has made a huge difference. I still have the gray hair and wrinkles but otherwise things are improving. Yeah!

Robbie - I think that is so cool that you are taking Tae Kwon Do with Chris. It think it's important to find ways to make the "exercise" fun or we won't be as likely to keep doing it.

Chris - I have to agree with everyone else. You are VERY photogenic! That's a great picture of you. You look really young and lovely.

BEB - Hang in there with Kyle. It's nice that you can still find ways to enjoy him even though he challenges you so much. Teenagers can really wear you down. Where do they find the energy?!

Ohio - I really enjoyed reading about your "walk". Everything is so flat around here. I envy your adventures in the woods.

esseyf - I admire you for doing so much on the elliptical. For some reason I can't stand it. It just wears me out, especially in my knees. I prefer the bicycle so I can sit. Maybe that's why I usually gain weight in my butt first. Embarassed

Everyone - Have a wonderful Easter or Passover if you celebrate either or both.  Actually, when was/is Passover this year?

If "wogging" is a combination of walking and jogging, I guess that's what I'm going now Laughing. I didn't know it had a name! Smile Thanks for the explanation.

I am able to jog 20 minutes and walk 30 when I go out now. I forgot to weigh in this morning. I'll post tomorrow morning's weight. But I'm not looking forward to it. I just ate stir fry with lots of soy sauce and that means lots of salt. Undecided

PS Congratulations Bonnie for 123! Way to go!!!Laughing

Hello Girls,

Lilpeggey, Kathy, & esseyf - No, I'm not new to the forum. Wink I just haven't been here in so long, I'm probably new to you guys. Happy Birthday to Kathy and welcome to all of you. It is nice to see that our 50's group is growing and going strong. I've missed you all. And believe it or not, I just finished reading page 179 forward. I don't think I started back far enough to get completely caught up though but I did read what I could today.

Bonnie- I am sorry to hear your sister is still struggling with her health. I will keep her in my prayers. I didn't read back far enough to get the diagnosis. Has been one given?

Alice - Sorry to hear about your encounter with the cactus. Have you tried Ikthamal? I'm not sure I'm spelling that correctly but it's a black tarry goop that is great at drawing out things. My husband got cactus between his toes once and it worked great.

Definitions please - Several of your posts have used two words I'm not familiar with ... "woggling" and "fartleking". I think I figured out "fartleking" from context. Is it the short spurts of exercise that gets your heart rate up to a certain level? But "woggling" has me stumped. Please explain. Embarassed

Helene - It's nice to see that you are moved and settled into your new country and home. Your life is so interesting! Dummy is adorable. He reminds me of a dog my sister once had. But believe it or not his mom was full blood dachshund! No one would have ever believed it except that she saw him born. So you never know what these "mutts" have in them. Smile

Summer has arrived in South Texas! We do have spring but it's too brief. This month we've had a few more "spring" days than usual. But today it's hot and the a/c is on in the house. My garden flowers are beautiful, the grass is growing and I'm wishing I had time to go swimming but I don't.

I can't believe what a difference a year has made in my life. A year ago, I weighed 204 lbs and was terribly worried about my health. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart palpitations and chest pains frequently. I had 0 energy for anything. A trip to the ER was my wake up call to change my life or risk loosing it before I was ready. I choose to change, no matter how hard it would be. I am SO glad I made that decision.

It's been hard work but rewarding, too. Today I weigh 150 and am on the lower end of my BMI because I'm 6' tall. I have been successfully maintaining my weight for several months now. My heart is strong, my blood pressure is low, and so is my cholesterol. Not only that but I'm growing stronger all the time because I've taught myself to LOVE exercise. I have muscles that I NEVER had before, not even when I was a teen.  I would have never guessed that I would be someone who loves exercise like I do now. I've learned to appreciate the journey and not just focus on my goal. Goals are great but I think we need to feel good about our efforts and the rewards we get along the way.

On a personal note: We are still waiting on word about my daughter-in-law's case. I learned that the district judges have no time limit on making a decision about the appeal. That really scares me because either way they decide on this case will probably hurt them politically. So I am afraid they just won't decide. That just sure doesn't seem just to me. I would rather them decide against her and let the case move on up to the next level of appeal than for it to be stuck indefinitely in the lower court.

But life goes on. My son and grandchildren are doing amazingly well and for that matter, so is Hannah under the circumstances. He makes the 6 hour trip up to see her every weekend and the children go once a month. Please keep them all in your prayers. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, please see www.freehannah.com for more details.

The baby business is really booming. That's why I haven't posted as much. This summer will be very busy all summer long. We had two lovely births just this past week. But I will try to stay in touch. I love reading about how each of you are doing. You all inspire me.

God Bless and have a wonderful Easter weekend,

Beth

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to check in briefly to say I'm going out of town and won't be able to be on CC until middle of next week. I'm going to a childbirth conference in Fort Worth, TX. I leave Thursday morning but will need to spend tomorrow getting ready to go. So I don't think I'll have much time on the computer but maybe I can squeeze in a little time if I'm lucky.

I'm still maintaining at 150 and have keep up with my exercise classes 3x a week. Hopefully when I get back I'll be able to bump that up a bit.

Be good while I'm away Wink,

Beth

Good morning girls! Well I see we have some early birds on here. I drug myself out of bed a few minutes ago (8am) and decided it's time for me to get back to walking in the mornings. No more excuses! It's warm enough.

Phox - Your hair cut is cute! I like it. It's a cute style on you. I let my brown grow out and am enjoying the salt and pepper now. (Well, mostly salt.) The in between stage is the pits but after its grown out it's SO easy to care for. Sometimes I use shampoo that makes the gray shine better. But when I see women with long beautiful gray hair I just love the look.

Well, I'm off to walk. Have a good one.

Alice - Those pictures are awesome. But that "elephant ear" pass looks really seriously frightful! Surprised Do you have a safety harness on when doing that kind of climb????

BEX - Shag rugs? Cool! If you're "being good" that's good news. Smile It doesn't always have to be "new or exciting" to be good. Smile Who's getting eye surgery? Sorry, but I don't always follow the abbreviations very well. Who is "DS"? Hope it goes well for them.

Hi everyone, I thought I would check in with you guys real quick. I was out of town all day today.

Bonnie - I'm sorry to hear that your sister is having such a hard time. I am still keeping her in my prayers. Take care of yourself, too. I bet your  headaches are at least partly stress related. It's got to be stressful for you right now.

Phox - So you got your hair cut? Are you going to post a picture for us? I can't wait to see it. Smile

Sinabear - It's good that you are staying so busy. Best of luck finding the best job. What kind of on-line class are you taking?

Chris - I have a HRM but it's broke. I need to get it sent in for repair or replaced but I haven't gotten around to it. I used it when I first started exercising and I loved it.

Since I spent most of my day driving today, it was not as good a day as I would have liked as far as burning calories goes. Also had a business lunch at this fabulous place called The Blue Onion. The food is fabulous and then we were there almost 2 hours because of our meeting. So I ate way too much. I had pita bread with hummus, roasted garlic and artichoke dip and then had a pesto pizza with roasted vegetables. All great food but probably high calories, especially as much as I ate! LOL Sealed

So tomorrow I better burn off some of those extra calories! I'll probably go for a long walk or spend an hour at the Y, not sure which yet. I need to do some sewing to get ready for a conference I'm attending next week. But that probably doesn't burn many calories.

I'll check in tomorrow. Have a great day,

Beth

Bonnie - My goodness! That sounds like it hurt! I'm glad you are okay. Guess the good golfing weather has returned! LOL, it's nice to hear you are back at it. Just watch out for flying golf clubs, okay.

[Edit: I missed that your sister was in ICU. I'll be praying for her. So sorry to hear that.]

Sinabear - no tatoos on me but two of my children have them. I love art but just can't picture wearing it permenantly on my body. I like change too much for that.

Just finished watching the movie Fireproof. It sure was good.

And I ate too much pie Embarassed. So tomorrow has to be a really good workout day for me.

Hi everyone! I kept reloading page 159 and wondering where everyone was. LOL. Silly me, I didn't realize I was just reloading the page and my post just happened to be the last one on that page. Meanwhile you guys were busy chatting on page 160! LOL Laughing

Welcome Karen! It sure is nice to have a newcomer to our little group. It sounds like you have had an awesome start even before joining CC. It will be fun to see you go through the rest of your journey, that is if you stay around with us. I hope you do.

BEX - that's good information about soy. I think a little in moderation is fine but it really isn't healthy to eat so much of it. I use rice milk because I seem to be less tolerant of cow's milk and I love the rice milk taste. As for hot flashes, I am mostly past them. But I found the progesterone creams did help some.

Chris - You crack me up! Pizza and a six pack! hmmm, well confession time for me too... My grandson went home with his mother for the night. So I decided Larry and I needed an evening of doing what WE wanted to do without thinking about the 12 year old. So I just got back from the store, rented a movie and I bought a sugar free cherry pie. Surprised At least it's sugar free but it still has 300 calories per slice and their definition of a slice is much smaller than mine. Cry But I'm going to eat some anyway. I probably should eat an apple instead but not tonight. But I think I can still keep my calories for the day in range. That is one thing nice about being on a maintenance. It does allow you a bit more calories for the day.

And tomorrow we are supposed to have sunshine and weather back up in the 70's! Yipeeee!!!! Cool I will burn off those calories working outside!

See you all later,

Beth

Happy Sunday,

BEX - Happy Anniversary with CC! I was just realizing that it will be a year for me in May. In many ways it doesn't seem that long. But I'm so glad I've stayed on here. And I'm glad you and others have been here too. It's just nice to have the support and accountability.

One - It is nice to hear from you again and it will be great having you back on a regular basis. That's good you had a such a good workout. I took off just a month and was surprised how much momentium I lost during that short time. But the good news is that we can always come back. I've just learned to have some epsom salts ready for the sore muscles! Surprised

Well they served BBQ at our church this morning. Oh it was SO good. But I'll have to eat light tonight to make up for it. It's still raining here but the sun is supposed to be back tomorrow. Laughing

Hey Renee! Welcome back! We have missed you. That's awesome that you lost the weight you did even if you did put a little back on. You'll have it back off in no time, I'm sure.

I've lost my weight and am now trying to tone up and get some muscle. LOL, I've never had muscle in my life and so I start now after I'm 54! Well, why not?! Right? I sure feel better anyway.

Good morning everyone,

It's a wet dreary cold morning here. It was so hard to get out of bed today. But I managed. Zachary and I went to my body pump class. Larry stayed in because of a killer headache.

My muscles are screaming at me today. I haven't quite gotten up to my goal of daily exercise yet but I still did more this week than I've done in a while. Monday and Wednesday I took a step class and yesterday I went to the Y and rode the bike and did a small amount of weights. Then this morning was the body pump class.  My muscles didn't quite give out but they sure are burning.

Ohio - Congratulations on your weight being down again. Only 1.2 lbs from your lowest weight? That's good! You'll be there before you know it and then go on to set a new record. Spring is just around the corner and that will most certainly help us all get moving more to drop those pesky pounds.

BEB - Glad you are feeling better today. Do you ever test your blood sugar?  I live with a diabetic and I know that rapid blood sugar changes can really effect our moods, too. Please don't take offense at me asking. I'm just concerned.

Today we go to a grandson's birthday party. He just turned 3. That should be fun.  But I'm getting an urge to start sewing. I promised myself new clothes after I lost weight but I haven't started sewing yet.

Have a great weekend and I hope at least some of you are enjoying some sunshine. We'll be overcast until Monday.

Peg - I agree with you about praying for that family. I will remember them too. How hard to face a sick child at such a young age!  Chris you husband is a blessing.

Peg - Did you say a whole herd of miniature ponies? Wow, that's got to be cute! My daughter-in-law raises miniature everything... horses, goats, chickens (they lay the tiniest eggs) and a miniature dashound.  I don't know why but she just has a thing for small creatures. Smile

Chris I checked out that website and it has my range much wider than CC. According to them I could get as low as 140. I don't have any goal to go that low but it sure made me feel better about wanting to be as low as 145.

I'm trying out a new recipe tonight for a vegetable stir fry. If it's good, I'll post it.  Have a blessed evening everyone,

Beth

BEB - I only wish you the best. What the others have said expresses much of my own thoughts, too.  I just want you to know that we all only want the best for you. You will always be welcome back should you decide to return. God bless!

Helen - You are such the encourager! You have a gift for focusing on the positive and then being able to communicate your lovely thoughts. Bless you and thank you. Smile

BEB - I wish I could join in the music game. But sadly I'm always at a loss for thinking of anyone. It's really sad because Larry really knows and loves music. Often when people ask me about a song he is singing and say "Who sings that?" I just laugh and tell them "Larry does." I can't even remember who the original artists are for more than half his songs even though I hear them all the time. But I do love music! Just bad with names. Embarassed

I didn't meant to bring up anything controversial when I mentioned Facebook. I was just trying to share a cute video of my granddaughter dancing. My daughter posted it last night and she is so cute. I just wish I had her energy.

You ladies have a great day,

Beth

BEB - That's interesting. I've never had a problem. Nor have I heard any complaints about viruses on Facebook.

Are any of you on Facebook? If so, take a look at my granddaughter in this video.

Wish I had her energy.

Chris - Ol gray mare? LOL.  My mom used to sing that. Sadly I understand more why now. Wink

Phox -  I love the dance picture. You look like you're having fun. Our dance class got cancelled until after tax season. Then we are going to start up again. Larry has been enjoying going and I love it. Our little group decided we are going to take a different approach next time. We are going to meet at our church building and use DVDs and only work on one dance at a time starting with the waltz. Each time we come, we will each bring $5. When we get $100 we will find a private instructor who will come once a month to give us private lessons on what we want. We'll keep meeting once a week but only have the instructor once a month. I think this plan will work much better than what we were doing.

I loved the puppet rock band! That is awesome! My husband heard the music and came in to see it too. He agreed. Are the guys actually singing or is everything recorded?

I have been SO lazy today! Larry says I need to learn to take some down time but it's so hard for me. I really want to get things done all the time.

Snow - Good for you being back down in weight. Are you walking again?
