Weight Loss Need easy snack about 200 calories Aug 04 2008

We have a fridge at work, so I usually bring fat free cottage cheese, 1 serving (1/2 cup i think) 80 calories along with 1 medium size banana 100 cal.  It's very filling for me.  At times, I have also brought a bag of the 100 calorie popcorn.

Weight Loss When did you start noticing a change? Aug 02 2008

This may sound rediculous and excessive, but it really helped me.  When I take my measurements, these are the ones I do:     Neck, around bust, below bust, phiance began measuring around each breast LOL, small of waist, lower waist, hips, thighs, around kneecap, larger part of calves, ankles, and around bicep area.

When I first started loosing, we couldn't find where the loss was till I started this.  Then it gave me the incentive to continue exercising.  Many mornings, I didn't feel like doing it, but when I found that inch... I was quick to get out walking, haha

Weight Loss Need some input : Jul 29 2008
22:08 (UTC)

Just thought I would ask.  I live in Alabama and although it's not as hot here as other places, I constantly see women walking in tank tops and capri work out pants.  They looked miserable.  I usually wear shorts/t-shirt... but after seeing them, thought maybe there was something I didn't know.  I tried the pants thing and was excruciatingly hot.  Figured if there was something I didn't know, I would continue, but since it doesn't make a difference... The cooler the better!

Thanks for the replies.

Weight Loss Curious how you log "bites" and going out to eat... Jul 20 2008

I usually enter in decimal form.. 1 bite of a cookie .25-.35... other than that, about the same thing as susiecue above.  Usually try to enter a bit more than what I may have had just to be sure.  Always best to enter more rather than less.

Weight Loss cal count w/o exercise? Jul 20 2008
20:33 (UTC)

Your right... I do miss the walking, so I did it this w/end.  Just during the week am too exhausted to do it when I get home.  This w/end was a bit of recovery for me too, getting this job I worked muscles this week I didn't even know I had, LOL... I went from a sit on my butt job, to a very physical one, so I'm hoping this will also help with the weight loss.  So far am lovin it!

Thx for answering my question.

Foods peanut butter jelly sandwich? Jul 08 2008

I'm a sucker for peanut butter.  I can eat it on almost anything.  I watch my cal count closely during the day so that I can average in 1 tablespoon during the day for snack,  then I get another one later at night.  I just use regular peter pan creamy.  I don't exceed my cc for the day and I still get to have something I really enjoy.  Been doing this since I began my weight loss and I'm still losing.

Weight Loss Help! is CC right or is the label right? Jul 08 2008

If CC shows more cals than what is listed on an item and I have nutritional value of what I ate, I usually add it to list, tag it and add it for my day.

Not sure if that's right, but that's what I do, I go by the label myself.

thank you for the response.  So I guess even though my Cholesterol intake was bad yesterday... my overall cal intake was 1193 out of 1250 for the day... then according to your logic I did okay.  Thanks for the reassurance, I wasn't sure how that fit into everything.

Much appreciated.

Weight Loss Can a dietician help? Jul 08 2008

well, like I said when I called the hospital here, they were more than happy to offer the help.  They didn't charge me then, but that was also about 3 years ago.  Worth checking into, just call and ask them.  I wouldn't pay if I didn't have to.

You can contact your local hospital and ask for the lead dietician on the floor.  Years back the one here helped me with my daughter and made out a dietary plan for her at no charge, just took them about a week, then they went over it with me when I went to pick it up.

I have plenty up top myself, and when I walk I usually wear 2 sport bra's, a work out top and a tank top.  I found that even with a good support bra it just wasn't enough to hold me.

My sister gave me a good bra that is specifically for running, when I tried it on, it glues your chest down, reminds me of a girdle but for the top portion of you.  extremely tight though.  Guaranteed you won't be effected by the gravity with that on.  I haven't graduated to running yet so it sitting in the dresser for future use.  Think she said she ordered it online, you can search running bra's... but at the same time she paid about $70 for it, you practically have to buckle yourself into it.

Weight Loss Am I doing this all wrong? Jul 04 2008

I rechecked my heart rate this morning after, can't remember what it was now, but it was elevated quite a bit.  I increased my walk time over the past 2 weeks, I've lost 20 lbs since may 12th, so I'm assuming I'm doing right, I just wanted to make sure :)  Would love to eventually be able to start running, but arthritis in my hip prevents that, so I guess walking is better than nothing.  I log everything that I eat, most days I show 1000 cal deficit, but was still unsure on the calorie/burn thing and how it worked.

This post was too funny. LOL.... Found it coincidental too b/c the other night my phiance commented he thought it was time for some newbies too, right before he started playing slingshot with em' across the room.  Only lost 20 lbs to this point but what a difference.

It's hard for me to go ahead and start buying clothes that actually fit though b/c I haven't reached my goal yet, everytime I put on my saggy stuff it encourages me that I don't want to get big again.

So for now, guess I'll hang on to the droopy drawers a lil longer LOL  Although I have been eyeing a cute red/black lil lacey bra and undie combo and phiance b-day is next week, so who knows.Wink

I usually find I have a lot of catching up to do in the evening/night time for my calorie intake.  just not much time to eat at work... Therfore when I get home at 7pm... I'm usually eating all the way up till bedtime... lost 16 lbs so far... so from my experience I don't find that it makes a difference as long as u don't go over your limit for the day.

Weight Loss The "Skinny B**** " Jun 22 2008

I can somewhat relate to what your going through, only I am the mom!.. For the past few years my daughter, 16yrs now, was on me about my weight, my daughter was a lil over at one time too and lost her weight when she got older.  I finally decided to take the first step this past May began exercising/dieting etc...

So I go have lunch with her one day and we're sitting there, her with her cheeseburger.... me with my salad.. when my daughter tells me "Momma your losing a lot of weight, this isn't right" I questioned her and she tells me "A mother is not suppose to be smaller than her daughter"  I could not believe those words, I couldn't even give a reply.  I felt as though all my efforts to that point had been crushed, I am not smaller than her yet, but I will be eventually, as of now we wear the same size.  I felt like just because she isn't showing any iniative to lose weight or for her tone up... its no reason to take it out on me.

So even though the situation is a bit reversed I know where your coming from. Don't lose heart, be happy you've come a long way.

Weight Loss Too much Sodium? Jun 22 2008
04:48 (UTC)
2

I have a very difficult time with my sodium also.  I don't add salt to my food, it's just from what I eat... Seems to come from my fat free Turkey sandwich meat, my cereal, rice cakes, etc...  I walk uphill anywhere from 1-2 hours a day every day.  I have found I crave  salt more than sugar.  My sugar intake is excellent.... fresh veggies are hard for me to do, my family won't eat them, they only like the can stuff so if i eat that, I rinse mine under water before heating. My BP is good... so on a day when I know my salt consumption is bad I follow with a diuretic and just try to do better the next day.

To a point I can understand your resentment.  I was at work last week, everyone new I've been on a diet since May.  It was someone's b-rthday and they got a huge cake of which I refused to allow myself to participate in.  Everyone received their plate and there was about 4 people around me, holding there cake in front of my face, taunting me... "oh so good", u know you want some"... blah blah blah.   Luckily I always go to work prepared, I always keep something on me that's not too bad... so while they riduculed and taunted, there I sat.... Everyone got a huge laugh at my expense ,when I pulled a ziploc of caramel rice cakes out my purse.  but that's ok... while they may gain another 10lbs on the hips.... I got up the next morning for my weigh in.. ...resulting another pound lost.

Some things.... don't let it get to you... learn to brush it off.  Someone is always gonna be around the corner waiting to sabotage you.  It's just another day, laugh it off and move on.  :)

I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 20... am 36 now. Since I began my weight loss I have found my trigger foods to be any type of citrus fruit... oranges etc... white flour such as white bread, pasta, rice.  No spicey foods... I omitted  things like spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce before I started my diet... I can have dairy if I get the fat free milk... not 1 or 2%... but fat free only.  Seems the more fiber I can include in my diet, the less bothersome the IBS is.  Dr.'s do say... excuse the verbage, if u have the runs increase the fiber to firm things up, then if constipated increase the fiber and it suppose to reverse the effect of whichever your suffering from.

Hope this helps... it also helps to keep a diary of what you eat and when you go to the restroom... note consistency...and then you know don't go back to that item.

g'luck and I hope it gets better for you.

Foods fruits and sugar: Jun 21 2008

no, no medical reason really.... just always assumed that sugars were bad even if from fruit.  I do have IBS, so most citrus type fruit  I can't eat... so far am doing okay adding more fruit to my diet and adjusting how I eat... triggers seem to be apple, oranges so far.  It's amazing though, since changing my eating habits and removing things like white bread, pasta and and rice, my health has taken a total turn around, and I don't have anymore major IBS symptoms.

For anyone else with IBS.. my sister spoke with her dr. and my sis advised me to remove those things from my diet, something about the white flour is a trigger for it, just a suggestion , it worked wonders for us so far.

But back to topic.... so sugar is okay even if from fruit? I shouldn't worry about sugar consumption in a particular fruit?

Thanks for the links, they were very helpful.  My eat meter says I need 1350 per day, so far today am just under 900 cal. My Burn Meter for the day is 2080. No exercise today, it was my rest day.   Guess I'll go raid the fridge and see what I can dig up before my night ends.

Appreciate the help, thank you
