so how has everyone's week been going? Mine has been so busy but I have been pretty good. Gave into some lemon scones though :) I have found that if I just eat a salad for lunch I am able to meet my calorie goals a lot easier. |

I too am going to try to make it this winter instead of my dreaded elliptical. My problem is I have no shoulder to run on because it is knee high with plowed snow, plus I don't want anyone to slide of the road and hit me since I run on a main road. My other problem is traction. I am so afraid of falling!! So yeah you crazy winter runners any suggestions? I know you are out there I see you! |

well I did it!! I took off and did my 5k route with the dog. It felt great!! i thought to myself I wouldn't be able to move but so far it's 24 hours later and I can still walk normal :) I will go out again tomorrow morning too. Wow the energy. I just get bored running I reach my goal and then don't know what to do. I can't work on my time i am very slow and I just have a good slow speed that works for me. And now it's not light out until 8:00am so i can't go in the morning unless it's on the weekend. I guess I will have to bit the bullet and start using my elliptical during the week. Are you following a weight lifting plan? |

Just thought you early birds might enjoy a laugh. I haven't been running much but yesterday it was raining so I didn't have my phone just my dog toby. I get to the end of the road just about to turn into my develpoment and notice one of my neighbors cows was out. I thought to myself no big deal, we will just "sneak" around it. WRONG! I was about 25 yards away and he started snorting and bucking! I froze cause at this time I realize it is a bull! Toby and I cut across their yard to see if they are home. Mind you there are not many houses around or many people home at 9:00am I finally get my neighbor to the door as he charges us. We had to jump into her house full of mud. I felt so bad. I look back and laugh now that I am home safe. So watch out for the cows they are worse than the stray dogs! :) |

Oh and to not starve myself with 1200 calories a day. ugh. Feel free to add me to your buddy list so you can read my rants in my journals hehe |

It sounds like a good program, the only thing I have read is you should do weight lifting before cardio not after. That way your muscles are not fatigued and you can lift more weight. About feeling sick I used to get that way. Now I wake up have a cup of coffee and a piece of fruit, If i am really hungry I will have pb with it. By doing your weight lifting first you should not become so dizzy. Maybe start with your strongest muscle group first and let your body wake up a little bit. If you are working out at home just take brakes if you have to and eat a few bites. |

I love my Nike IMARA, it calculates calories burned based on height and weight. You do have to wear the strap. You get use to it. The ones without a strap are crap. I use mine for running so those are out. You have to hold 2 fingers on a sensor on the watch to take your pulse. Well i am pretty sure I would fall on my face doing this :) Plus how accurate can that be only a few seconds? Mine was $45 on ebay and love love love it. |

Well I love lifting weights. I hate it when I am not strong enough to do a task. I groom dogs and I hate being dependent on someone else to lift the big fattys into the tub. I just like being independent i guess :) Plus I can continue to lift inside when there is a foot of snow outside. I can not run 3 miles on a treadmill, 2 is pushing the boredom factor. I just went and bought a weight set and I am so excited I know everyone is different but how many times do you think I can look to increase my weight during this program? Do I just increase when it's not so difficult? |

Melkor, This program needs to have a warning stating you won't be able to walk the next day!!! :) Holy crap, I did work out A this morning and I am already sore. I love it. This is great. Thanks so much for the info Melkor, your the best. I do have a question for you though. I know you are not a fan of long distance running but I would like to continue to run my 3 miles. Should I do this on one of my days off? Or is that to much you think. rnjt if you want to go through this tortures program together get me updated |

Actually the opposite is true for me. I thought this was true but then I realized it was my bad posture sitting at the computer longer on this damn website! lol I have bad lower back pain had to have MRI done and nothing. Running actually helps stretch my lower back out. Try doing some yoga moves too that has really helped me |

Melkor just posted an awesome link and this is what I am starting. It has videos to show you how to do the moves. I love this. I'm sure I won't be able to walk tomorrow though :) anyway here is the link to the site and program. That's the other thing if you need structure this has it. They give you a schedule for each week. If you want a weight lifting buddy feel free to add me so we can complain about our sore muscles.

I do 5k about 4-5x week. Haven't lost anything. Actually just got on the scales and gained 2 lbs in the last couple of days. I am really trying to find the motivation to lift weights more. I love doing HIIT I believe I am going to start cutting down to only doing long runs a couple times a week and doing weight lifting and HIIT more. I think you are doing great. And if you do cut those few dam calories out it will help If you want a fellow HIIT friend feel free to add me. |

I have a stretching question. The tendon that runs down your ankle bone on the outside is really tight. This morning I notice it really throwing my stride off. Can I stretch this or just ice it? I am sure it's from wearing flip flops all day long. |

It has been so humid my last good run was sunday. So today I actually got up the energy to run when I got home from work!! I did HIIT this morning so it was kinda hard on the legs. I hope I sleep better tonight. I find it much easier to just roll out of bed before the thought of hitting the snooze can even hit me. Put your alarm on the opposite side of the room. Once your up your up you won't go back to bed. But lately I have been so tired in the morning I just can't do it. |

I run with my dog every time. I only have 1 route I can do that doesn't have dogs running out to us. It sucks but that's what I have to do. I do always carry an extra leash with me that works like a choke collar in case I come across a stray dog. And yes I do alot because I live in the country. It has saved me alot. I know how to handle dogs though, I train and groom dogs for a living. I would always carry pepper spray. A dog in "fight Mode" will not stop at anything, you can not piss him off anymore but you really shouldn't get in the middle unless you know what you are doing. I found this on a website, it says it better than I can explain. Safest way I know to break up a fight is to grab the most aggressive dog by the hind legs and pick its rear up like you are holding a wheel barrow. Then you back up pulling the dog with you. Since the dog is now supporting itself on two feet only, it is not likely to want to continue fighting, and it is very difficult for it to turn on you. Don't worry about what your dog is doing he will come back, get the aggressor under control until the owner comes. |

Great time lozzle! don't worry about finishing the program early. I am still trying to find my next goal. About pace. Make sure you are not over extending your stride. when your foot hits make sure it is directly under your knee. Don't let your foot hit way out in front of you, it will cause injury. Read the first few pages of this forum. It has great running advice and tip |
