My weekend was good...yesterday I went on a 14 mile ride....tomorrow I'm planning the same, but hopefully a bit faster.

 

^i think that answers your question a bit.  I have done two triathlons (one last summer and one this)...so there's the swimming, the cycling and the running...except i hate running.  i hope as i lose weight running will get easier.  i really like cycling and am trying to get into it more full force, since swimming requires more planning and effort than cycling (needing a pool and all....)  i also do yoga and pilates here and there.

i don't really count this as an exercise activity, i hardly have time to do it anymore, but i love dancing.  a bit of a passion of mine.

my weight this morning was 139.6 ---not so bad considering last sunday i was at 143.4---i think that south beach helps me get rid of the first few pounds (more than likely water weight) really quickly, which gives me motivation to continue.  it is TTOM, so i might even drop a bit more at the end of the week when that is all over with.

at the end of this week i'm going home to panama to visit my parents for a week.  thank goodness it coincides with the end of the restrictive phase of south beach.  my parents are aware of my diet tho and promise to be supportive (usually trips home are centrally themed around me getting to eat all the food unavailable in the states).  i'll try to load up mostly on fruits and veggies.  *here's hoping*

i save my daily glass of milk for the evening....so after dinner when i get the munchies later...i have my glass of milk with one tablespoon of my ghiradelli hot cocoa mix---even tho i don't heat it up--it only adds 40 calories (the serving size of the cocoa is 3tbsps with what i'm assuming is more milk, bc 1tbsp makes a standard glass of skim milk chocolatey enough.) that or i have a glass of water with lemon which cuts my appetite.

i used to really like catching a glimpse of myself in a store window when standing with a bunch of people like "whose that skinny girl with--oh, that's me!" haha

 

i say used to because i've gained 12lbs back (which is why i'm back here!!).

 

it's always the little things that make us happy :)

I hope you had a good day! I actually left for work (nannying in the summer) at 7:30 so I didn't read your post until now.  I hope your new job is fabulous and that you were able to stick to your diet.


I had a very reasonable day--yogurt with sliced up mango in it for breakfast, a big bowl of leftover lentil soup (that i made and ate for dinner last night) for lunch, and a few slices of a chicken breast for pre-dinner (i had it already made in the fridge for my salads but i got home late... and was too starving to wait until my boyfriend finished cooking dinner...) my real dinner is going to be fish and veggies. Oh and I snacked on some almonds during the day.

August 21st: 140.8 - yay, started south beach this week and have gotten a great kick start to my diet.  plus i don't feel deprived at all, i've been eating a lot of vegetables and legumes :)

August 28th: 139.6 -i'm close to having lost 4 lbs...but tomorrow I head to my parents' house in panama (omg such amazing food down there) for a week.  fingers crossed!

I am starting in a few weeks towards my PhD in Anthropology (socio-cultural).  I'm attending the University of Pennsylvania ( so I live in Philadelphia).  I just moved here 2 months ago after my undergrad graduation from Notre Dame, so I'm getting used to the big city, but I like it so far.  I'm excited for classes to start so I can begin meeting new people.  So far it's mostly just hanging out with my bf with whom I live (also a PhD student--molecular biology).

Since I hit puberty (before then I was rail thin) the lowest I've been is 130ish....I've been hovering closer to 137-143 with stints at 156 and 150 (the highest peaks after two different dieting attempts). 

Right now I'm on South Beach to kick start my weight loss: early wins = greater motivation.  But I'm allowing myself less than one serving of fruit a day (even though the diet eliminates fruit for the first two weeks).  I've had success with it before--but this time instead of relying solely on the diet I'm exercising a lot.  After the first two weeks of "restriction" (no bread, pasta, potatoes...very little fruit).  I'm just going to start calorie counting with a small amount of whole grains.  When I lost close to 15 lbs last summer that was from training I did for a triathlon.  At the end of the summer (triathlon day) i was at 137 but kept losing during the semester until i hit 129 at xmas.

2nd semester senior year did me no good :( lots of partying, not so much exercising...and here I am again at 143.

What about you?

Hi, courtnayc and I are starting a group for motivation (we just decided today) we're both looking to lose 20 lbs...does a friday weigh-in work for you instead?  if not, monday works too--i weigh myself everyday, so i can post it to the group on any day (for my own purposes, though, i've just been recording the friday weigh-in).  what do you think?

Do you have a scale at home?  I have one at home that i use everyday, but i only "count" it on friday mornings.  I am trying to lose the weight for new years (20 weeks from now...) but I'll settle for being close :)

I have knee problems too...I went to see a sports medicine doctor, who told me that to help relieve the pain from my knees i should really work hard on strengthening the muscle surrounding them.  That meant squats, lunges, leg press, etc.  maybe that'll help.

I've started brushing my teeth shortly after dinner--instead of waiting until my bedtime routine (usually 5-6 hrs later: i.e. eat dinner 6/7 go to bed around midnight).  I don't want to eat after I've already made my teeth and mouth feel fresh and clean!

school does get in the way!!  it's really hard to schedule in exercising.  last night i went on a half hour run, though, and it felt good.  tomorrow morning i'm doing a turkey trot-type 5K run, so hopefully that'll balance out the rest of the day's festivities.  i just weighed myself out of the shower  (4:18 in the afternoon, so hopefully i weighed less this morning!!) and it read 132.8!! i'm so excited, i've seriously been watching what i eat bc i haven't been exercising except for football (my dorm team won the championship! we got to play it in the stadium...check out pics on facebook).

right now i'm finishing up applications for graduate school....PhD in anthropology....it's stressful, but i'm almost done with all the apps.

hey everyone,

 

i just spent like 45 min reading everyone's posts since the last time i posted.  you all are doing amazing!!! :) i on the other hand, have not been exercising at all.  but i have been watching what i eat.  so, i am now down to 133.3lbs, which i am really happy with.

 

i want to get down to my final goal of 129lbs by the time christmas rolls around, but that might be hard.  i'm trying to start running again, but it's hard when it is 20 degrees outside and snowing.  plus treadmills hurt my knees, so that's not pleasant either.

Where's maddie?  I bet she is busy now that her internship is over with.  hopefully she will still weigh in this week!

 

You have no idea how busy i've been.  i'm the advertising manager at the newspaper and i have a COMPLETELY new staff (bc the last manager hired all her senior friends that graduated)....so in addition to my 18 credits, i've been spending like 5 hrs a day at work. :( today was the first semi-normal day, except my car wouldn't start and it was cold and rainy.


my last "weigh in" was at 137.4  which really makes me happy because i haven't been able to focus on exercising since i've been so busy. PLUS with all of us girls in this house there are ALWAY cookies and sweets...


sigh.  i miss talking to you all...i promise to post more often again now that my life is somewhat back to normalcy.


edit: just looked back and 137.4 puts me at having lost 7 lbs since this thread started.  i hope to get back on the exercise wagon QUICKLY.  by october 17 (my trip to panama) i hope to be another 7lbs down.  I hope i can do it :)

haha i just had fun people (other interns, mostly) but the job part was awful, i never had anything to do. ever.  i was so bored counting the clock.  i am now going to proceed to take 3 hours to clean out my desk.

yeah, i think i'll love grad school. so i'm studying for the GRE now my bf (a bio major) is taking it on Sept. 2 and I'll probably take it around mid-september.  we'll see.  i have enjoyed undergrad...i'm getting a dual degree in the four years, so my BA in anthro and my BBA in Management-Entrepreneurship...taking 18 creds this fall and 12 in the spring.

and I am the advertising manager of the student daily paper.  but no classes on fridays :-D haha. i'm really excited. yay senior year!

laaaaast day!!!! i got a nice email from one of my supervisors...but i don't think anyone else will care.

today is payday but they didn't give me my $500 for my august housing stipend!!! i have to go bi*** because that's a lot of money for me (i.e. my RENT). ughhh so annoying.

but my car is packed up and i am leaving for south bend STRAIGHT from my exit interview...i should be in my bed with my boy toy asleep by 8, haha i'm exhausted, and driving 3 hrs won't help.

hahaha--you should tell rob that thing about waiting until you're comfortable at 30-60 min before interval training.

well when you do tough intervals, your workout can be shorter....so like you can do a 20-25 min interval session that kicks your ass....but it's only 25 min, so you can survive it (i guess that's the mentality)

 

i am so freaking nervous about my triathlon...i haven't been able to train all week bc of being sick.  the race is a week from saturday. i'm flipping out.  i'm pretty sure i'll finish alright, but i want to do well, and i'll feel like such an idiot dring transitions and stuff bc i'll have no idea what i'm doing :(

when is your race again?  rob (the bf) has recently started to try to convince me to do Notre Dame's "Holy Half Marathon" which is in April sometime...maybe I will. Where I'm at now I think I could feasibly run 7 miles (5 is the most i've done), so if I keep it up, maybe I can.

how often are you running?  are you doing any interval training?  my bf is the marathoner so he has been helping TONS with my training--he makes me do hill charges and interval stuff, and i always feel like throwing up after and killing him...but then the next time i just do a time/distance run (like saying i'm going to do 3 miles regardless of time or saying i'll run 55 min non stop regardless of distance) i feel 100% better...bc it's built up my muscles as well as my breathing.

haha i never trust him that it'll work, but then he's always right.

I'm 5'2" and right now i'm weighing in at 140...i'm in a size six, but yesterday i went to gap and was able to button up a size 4 stretchy khaki pant...so i bought them (on sale, 18 bucks).  i don't look very good in them yet, but in another 8 lbs or so they should be alright. 

size 4 jeans are far from fitting, but i bought a pair of them as goal jeans.

also, most places i shop have short/ankle sizes (try old navy...)

yeah...it was just that i was starving...and it the plates of food were around...so i ate 3 potato skins, 2 chipotle wings, a handful and a half of curly fries and like 3 onion rings....

not too awful, right?

gooood morning :)

so yesterday i was good all day....but then we had an intern send off thingy at a duckpin...guess what was for dinner...

potato skins with chili and cheese,

seasoned curly fries,

onion rings,

wings

and i ate too much. :(

BUT, i kept enough room in my daily calories that if i ate like 1000cals, i would still be at maintenance (and i really don't think i ate that much)

welcome!  yeah, i understand the idea of smaller goals...

i want to ultimately be in between 125-129 (haha, want to stay under 130), but as of this morning i am 140.6 and it's my goal to get to 135/6 by the end of august (as school is starting)

i like this thread--everyone is really encouraging and we'll randomly talk about things going on in our lives :) glad to have you aboard!
