Good point, gj-jane you don't have to starve yourself in order to lose weight. That is actually counterproductive. A lot of people fall into that habit. Some diets such as the Cabbage Soup Diet restrict your calories to way below that. (sometimes even under 600 calories a day) I highly recommend that you check out my blog under my profile for more information on popular fad diets. |

I would have to say that drinking water is one of the most important things you can do to speed up your metabolism. However, there are a couple more tips that should help speed up your metabolism to aid you in losing weight. I would recommend that you incorporate 30 min of aerobic exercise into you daily routine. This keeps your metabolism elevated even prior to exercise. If you can exercise in the morning and at night, its a double whammy. Strength training helps tremendously. It takes calories the more muscle you have. You energy is important to maintaining a health BMR (basal metabolic rate) Don't avoid meals, this is the worst! Eat small portions throughout the day. Like 4-6 meals a day. SMALL DONT SKIP BREAKFAST EVER, the best thing you can do to aid weight loss is eating a breakfast. Your mother was right all along, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Thats all I got for right now, hope it helps

Hello, I would highly recommend that you stay clear of fad dieting, such as the South Beach Diet. I know it appears to work but realistically it doesn't work. One of the main problems I see with them is they provide a sense of false hope. I know there are 3 phases to the South Beach Diet, but many people have been reported to gain the weight back after they have gone onto the final stage. I actually run a blog on it under my profile about fad diets and why they are bad. These diets simply do not work.

ok here is my two cents or maybe one cent.
You must know that temptation will bug you too. There are going to be days when you want to stuff your face. BUT DON"T. There also going to be days that you don't feel like doing any exercise but force yourself to do it.
Don't be foolish and start popping dieting pills. I believe that they are all garbage and I wouldn't waste one more penny on them. Just remember to stay positive and you can do it! |

thank you and i am not advocating that you should lose 20 pounds a week. I am hear just to help educate I am not trying to get you to lose 20 pounds a week. Unless you are pro boxer or something that is not realistic at all.

Maybe it was a little unclear. I am not claiming that you will lose 20 pounds each and every week. I certainly do agree that this would be impossible and certainly not healthy by any means. You can condition your body to lose 20 pounds a week (for maybe one week). Not each and every week but some week you might spike out at 15-20 pounds. Again that is just a good week if you can lose 15-20 pounds but don't expect those kind of results on a weekly basis. Our bodies are like machines and if they machine is oiled right it can be a fat burning machine.
2000-2500 calories a day is just a broad range that I got off reading though some articles at WebMd and About. Give of take 100 or so calories each way. I apologize for not listing my sources as I am not a proffesional write I just do it as a side hobby and health is very important to me. I enjoyed reading through you comments! talk to you later |

yes it's very important to have 2,000- 2,500 calories a day. Temporarily you can adjust that number to below that simply shock your system into losing weight. Some feel irritable and fatigued with this. I have some more articles I has written to back up that information more. It's very important to remember that under the 2,000 calories a day is to be temporary, certaily not long term.
