| Weight Loss | Good Scales, anyone? | May 08 2006 15:45 (UTC) |
|
| the one i have just measures to the half pound which suits me fine. i stepped on a jenny craig scale which supposed to measure you body fat percentage too...but i dont believe in it. how can you do that with bare feet? i am very muscular, like i have been asked if i ever thought about competing..and it said my body fat percentage was obese..yet i cant pinch any fat on the side of stomach..i still have some in the front on stomach yet..from pregnancy. the gal who was doing the weigh in laughed when it showed my BMI was obese, so did the rest of the room. so maybe for some people those BMI scales are good..but not for me. the half pound round off is fine for me. i think if it weighed any more accurate i would became a scale freak worried about gaining an ounce...and elated at losing an ounce...and COME ON!! GET REAL!

| hi jellyfish.
try some nuts and seeds..those should be great for you. try adding in more fruit, they have more calories than veggies. i also suggest you very slowly increase your calories..dont jump up to 1800 overnight..you will gain weight, which you might need, but too much will throw you mentally. a little at a time. are you also raw? meaning do you eat anything cooked? or processed? if you dont, than you are also raw. if you arent raw, than try some soups too. and if possible, add some crackers to your soup. some vegans eat bread/crackers, some don't. are you a big water drinker? if so, try to add some juice or teas. they have calories. good luck. you might also want to try this other website and forum. there are alot of vegan/raw recipes and advice on what to eat, when, how much how often. the atmosphere is usually very supportive and loving. i have never before come across such a energetic and loving forum like this. good luck jellyfish!! hugs, lynette http://www.rawfood.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimate bb.cgi |

| most of the vegans and raws i have talked to comment how flat their tummy got while eating that way. but it isnt for everyone. you cant target specific areas unfortunately. but for some reason..being raw/vegan seems to work well for flattening the tummy. it does take some time though. good luck! | |||

isnt just amazing how all the pieces fall together eating raw/vegetarian?? i watch and read these threads being posted..all the troubles and i think its interesting because you dont have any of those problems being a vegan/raw. isnt that interesting? and its amazing how the sizes just drop! i couldnt believe i went from a size 22 to a 14. maybe you can send me your old clothes? haha. so glad things are going well for you! so any changes in spiritual energy too? hugs, lynette |

| Chris, don't fret about being 100% raw..heavens, most everyone on the forum isnt 100%. I find some do 100% in short spurts. Just try and stay away from the high processed foods, you know? I am finding that when I eat something cooked, its usually soup of some kind, or cooked veggies....like zucchini, potato, etc. i think just trying to eliminate the processed stuff is a good step.
and yes i have read about the animals sending their hormone levels sky high when being butchered. i guess before i had never stopped to think about it. i think i lived in la-la land where i thought the animals were killed humanely..isnt that an oxymoron? i dont know..like they were put to sleep or injected with something so no pain...a bunch of bull i know. the one under cover video i watched showed how the most humane slaughter house puts the animal into that metal box and flips him to his side. once upside down, the guy cut his throat open and lets him bleed out, all the while the cow is mooing away trying to get upright again. they flip the cow over, his esophogus and everything just dangling (how does he make noise i dont know) and he flops around bleeding everywhere while anothe machine picks him up by the feet and he goes down the butcher line alive as the butcher starts cutting away at him..while he is alive. i just cant do meat anymore knowing that. so anyways..off my soapbox..its a recent soapbox of mine..im sorry. i dont mean to go on about it..but there arent alot of people who will listen because they want to continue to eat meat. at least here you dont have to read it. anyways, hugs, lynette |

| no..you dont cook in it. thus far i am using it on my skin and hair. i also add it to my fruit juices and teas. it is big for vegans/raw foodists. i had leveled off for awhile and now that i am taking a few tblsp a day i seem to be dropping again. interesting that this site gives it a D when it is used so much by vegans/raws. If you look it up online, it talks about the benefits.
but again, no, i don't cook with it. i dont cook for myself at all anymore, only for the family and then i use EVOO. anyone else using it besides me and the vegans/raws? |

| loved the joke about hitting my head!
i would like to go again, but just not sure when. frequenting 'john' isnt really an option on some of my schedule. it was great during spring break..but not sure now. i was talking to another lady today who told me when she cleaned her system out, it took her a month and she spent 6-8 times pooping a day...wow huh? hard to believe we have so much crap built up in there. another guy on the other forum is doing a different cleanse and he is getting rid of the hard black tar stuff that gets stuck in there. yuck. so anyways, great to hear from you! hugs, lynette |

| Chris, another alternative to the milk of mag is a lax tea. they work pretty well too.
glad you are reading the raw site as a guest. its quite active and helpful. if you notice we have started a weight loss thread on it. only a few people are participating because vegans/vegetarians aren't fat. so its us newbies and all of us who have joined have been losing the weight successfully. we are going through our fast spurts and slow spells too. i have leveled off for awhile...which is always frustrating..but i am not that concerned. i know body is just adjusting to the new lifestyle. i really dont miss meat that much. especially after watching the slaughter houses. i dont want any animals to die for my benefit. granted i know they are going to die anyways, but at least not for this body! i am having a hard time totally indulging into that concept because so many products have animal biproducts. one step at a time i guess. did you see that 100 years ago humans ate only a few pounds of cheese a year..and now humans eat pounds and pounds of it?! and someone posed the question why humans are getting taller/bigger, and girls are maturing younger because possibly of the hormones that are being eaten through the foods consumed. interesting huh? of course each to his own and all is entitled to their own opinions. i have found it interesting how many guests are now viewing that website...its like the numbers jumped overnight after posted it here. i wonder how many read it out of curiousity? anyways, hugs, lynette |

| So awesome to meet you Chris! I havent found alot of raw or vegan/vegetarians on here.
I understand trying it and then going off and then gaining again. This type of eating is TRULY a mind set one. I could have NEVER EVER done this if I wasn't forced to. I loved cooked food...I think I still do..my body doesn't though. I occasionally try something cooked, but the more time that goes, the less it tempts me. In the beginning it was the sweet, really really bad stuff that tempted me..like pizza, enchiladas, chocolate cake, ice cream, things like that. Now if I want cooked, I want soup, mushrooms, or chinese. I think you should keep one thing right now. So if it is bread/wheat, then be it. I really don't miss the meat/dairy. I think because after I watched this documentary called Earthlings, it hit me hard. It showed me the slaughter houses, supposedly the most humane one in the country. If you value life at all, any life, your heart will just sink to watch how they treat these animals and kill them. How they butcher them before they are even dead..its just horrible. The whole documentary is 1:35 long, I only made it through 23 minutes of it. If you visit the site, than go to Vegan support link and its called Earthlings..by member TH11 something. But anyways, yes I try and juice, but I find that its not every single day..as much as I would like to do so. I am still transitioning too. In fact I don't even do recipes yet. I am still working on eating things as they come/grown. The MC really shouldn't be done for weight loss, its really for detox on your digestive system. If you weren't running to the bathroom, I wonder how much of the SWF you were retaining then. The butt-pee isn't my fav but at least I could see the crud coming out. Like I mentioned in one on my earlier posts, it's like our body stores up on poo for poo-emergencies. Yuck. Hunny, hi..nice to hear from you again! Yea, this way of eatting isn't for everyone. Especially if its going to kill you...lol. Thanks so much for the support. I have found that I don't broadcast my lifestyle anymore, people really get defensive. It's not like I am trying to change them, THEY are the ones ASKING ME what I am doing to lose the weight so quickly. When I tell them, they get so defensive, asking about protien and caloric intake. So I often avoid the topic. IAH, that is great you can get your meat from the farmer. i think if i ever ate meat again, i would do it that way. no more meat from crazy-mart. no way. I cant support that anymore. i have issues when my hub brings home meat. not sure how i am going to handle him going hunting this year....that will be an issue i am sure. he will go, i wont not allow him. but i will have personal issues with it. and yes..wheatgrass is potent! in all ways. I do straight shots too. why prolong the taste!!??? i found the more i do it the more tolerable it is. but its worth 25 lbs or something like that of veggies. so in 2 oz..i get my shot of veggies for the day/week! haha..i know it doesnt work that way...but you get the idea. So nice to hear the support and feel the love! Keep it up all...so will I. One day at a time..on this journey of ultimate health! Hugs, lynette |

| visited dr. h today. he is sending me into the lab for blood tests..to make sure things are ok. he made fun of my clothes though. they are hanging on me, my belt is wrapped and tucked in behind me..on my back. my waistbands are all rolled up too. he told me to get to goodwill..which i replied that i will. i just dont want to go buy a bunch of things that wont fit me two months later--you know? he was amazed how much my tummy has flattened and is encouraging the healthier lifestyle. he said he saw something on wheatgrass in the paper today...i told him i had just tried it. i have done 2 shots, 2 oz each. he wanted to ensure that i was eating the nuts and seeds needed for the protien and other minerals/nutrients that i am not getting since i am no longer eating meat. he checked for sagging skin, which i dont have any yet. i asked what the next few months should be like and he said everyone is different, just listen to my body. i might see more numbers go away or more inches. so i guess we will have to wait and see what happens huh?
so there is my update! if you would like, i will let you know what my blood labs say. |

| haha..if you didnt catch day 4..i had to stop. you cant leave the bathroom, you have to stay near by. and i didnt realize that. the one day i had to drive an hour to drop off my daughter..well i am glad i took a change of clothes. when i went to pick her up, i had a 3 hr drive to make to get her. so i had to wean myself off so i didnt have to sit in poo. otherwise it went fine.
thinking of doing a juice fast next time around. it feels good to fast and to clean out the system. too much isnt a good thing though. i meet up with my dr tomorrow so we will see how i am doing according to him. my numbers have kinda leveled out..though i am still losing inches. when i started my adventure in mid feb..late march..my waist was 44 inches and i was a size 22..2x. i just bought myself some capris size 12-14 the other day and my waist measured today was 35 inches. so i am doing good. and in the past two months i have had two cycles..and each time they only last three days. talk about great! having lighter shorter periods is awesome! i am learning to like all kinds of veggies and fruits that i snubbed earlier. so thats how things are going. life has also gotten really busy, why i havent been on alot lately. i have been on the other forum reading, learning, and participating there too. hope all is well and thanks for checking in! hugs, lynette |

| I totally understant str! I was the SAME WAY! I was hitting the gym and doing my cardio and weight training, taking classes, monitoring my calories from Aug to Feb. I just was not losing and I know I wasn't losing inches because everything fit the same. I even consulted a couple different trainers to analyze my diet and work-out routine. But nothing! What else did I have to do to lose a pound?? I was told to be patient, I was gainging muscle..but where? Yea I was able to lift more and run more, but I wanted my numbers to drop..dont you think 7 months was enough time to wait to lose at least a couple of pounds?? I had tried diets (atkins and whatever) before that and was determined that exercise and calorie counting was the key. So what the heck!! Now what?? So I understand completely..ultimately! | |||
| Weight Loss | Starvation mode | Apr 04 2006 04:02 (UTC) |

| yes its great that you are losing weight!!...HOWEVER, at that low of numbers you are slowing your metabolism down big time. so once you get to your goal weight and if you try and eat a meal, you will gain weight because your meal will then have the same number of calories that you used to eat in a single day. at this rate, you will hit your goal quickly, but then continue to lose weight, making you boney gross thin and no longer attractive. after you get to that point, you will find it really hard to gain weight to look healthy again. since you are so obsessed with the scale and the numbers, that i fear you wont be able to fix it until you have reached your ideal weight and wont want to fix it until you are underweight. i would suggest increasing your diet by a 100 cals a day at first. that is one extra fruit a day. but for once, i agree with others, get some medical help. this is a mental problem, just like eatting while overweight has its mental problems too. best of luck to you | |||

| are you looking for permission to eat more?
I think your 1200 limit is a little low--have some fruit or a salad later..that way your calories COUNT and it digests very quickly. If you feed your body what it truly craves, i.e. healthy stuff, you will find that your hunger diminishes quite a bit. otherwise your hunger/cravings keep going until you eat what you need. |

| Since sugar is an addiction, I try and stay away from it all together on a daily basis. There is organic sugar in its in its true form... I couldn't find the article that I have read about sugar..but it said something about the white sugar we buy in the store isn't all that great for us and there is real sugar out there. But even with that being said, I don't do the artificial stuff--splenda, equal... If I am going to eat something sweet, I try to do chocolate, a little bit of chocolate is good for you anyways. Still trying to research which choc is the best. But if you are going to eat something sweet, eat something sweet as a treat! | |||

| Well no hunger yet, maybe my bad day was day 2. I think that had alot to do with that I didn't drink enough lemonade though. I really don't won't to go out too much because my tongue looks so bad, at least I don't smell yet. I am meeting a friend at McD's so the kids can play and we can yak. I am hopeful the smell doesnt make me sick or make me crave it. I think I would rather feel sick. Better get going!

| Cheatin we are on the same page..
Let me explain this, starving is a disaster inflicted upon the hungry occasionally self-inflicted by the mentally disturbed or those found in third world countries. Starvation occurs when the body is deprived of food and its vital nutrients needed in order to survive. Almost all Americans will survive for a couple of weeks at least without any food, it just isnt fun or if you are fasting, then you are at least doing it for health reasons and paying careful attention to your body. After a couple of weeks with no food, depending your weight, the body will start to consume itself. When people fast for religious reason or health reasons, your body uses it's reserves for nutrition. Starvation is basically on the brink of death. I hope you aren't dying.... Finewine, I would say that your calorie intake at 1200-1300 is low, you aren't going to starve to death-literally. You do run the risk of having a low caloric intake of trying to starve yourself by cutting your calories too low for too long and then bingeing, which isn't good. But you are not going to starve providing you havent been this low for too long. If you aren't HUNGRY HUNGRY at 1200-1300 then I wouldn't panic, pay attention to what your body is telling you. But understand that by putting your calories that low you are slowing your metabolism down, so if you do decide to increase your calories later, like after you hit your goal, you will gain weight quickly. Analyze how your body feels, how hungry you really are, your amount of output vs input and listen to your body. We all hit plateaus. Sometimes its a wait it out to let your body realize that "no..you aren't starving, this is just your new intake, so go right on ahead" or you can change what your are doing, switch classes from kickboxing to yoga or vice versa, or change to more weights or increase your calories. it has also been recommended that you change your calories frequently, so take in 1200 one day and then up it to 1400 the next. staying too low for too long will put you in starvation mode--but that would mean below 1600 calories for 24 weeks or more. If you are at that point, than yea, increase your calories! even i with the low calories i am consuming on my MC/fast, i don't dare stay on it too long because i don't want to slow my metablism that low, and my lemonade and tea is giving me about 1000 cals a day, and I AM FASTING. I don't think you intend to be fasting do you? are you doing your cardio after weight training? doing cardio after weight training burns more calories. "As general information, you'll be interested to know that, according to the National Research Council, the average woman (5'4", medium frame, not too thin, not too fat) who does not exercise needs 1,600-2,400 calories a day to maintain body weight. The average man requires 2,300-3000 calories a day to do the same." http://jaoii.lunarpages.com/starve.html |

| starvation doesnt kick in until like after 30-40 days without food or water. so don't worry about starvation.
exercise can build that muscle, and we all know muscle weighs more than fat. it could be that your body has acustomed itself to your new way of eating and has leveled off, meaning it has learned to accomodate for the way you are eating. so you can change it up a little. change your exercise regime and change your eatting a little. or keep it up and your body will continue to lose after a short time period. GOOD LUCK! |

| One idea is to order the chkn fajitas. have only one fajita, be careful how much sour cream and cheese you add, but a sprinkle should be ok. drink alot of water and you should be fine! don't eat the beans or rice, or if you do- Follow the french rule--three bites and then fork/spoon down. Enjoy! I would also recommend NOT bringing home the leftovers, many do this. If you eat out, EAT OUT and enjoy the experience, but when you leave, its over, done, ka-put. Don't bring it home with you. Just wait until the next outting, heaven knows it won't the last OUT TO EAT event in your life. Treat it like a special event like it should be.

| Weight Loss | Juicing and its' benefits | Mar 31 2006 18:22 (UTC) |

| I must add Craig, that too much juicing is also bad. One cup of carrot juice is equivalent to 4 cups of raw carrots. If you overload your body with so much nutrients, than your body has to work overtime to expell the extra nutrients. Since it is such a potent cup of nutrients, sip it, don't chug it. Store bought juice is lacking nutrients. For one, chemicals are added to add color and to preserve it and two, because it is heated, anything heated kills enzymes--and in fruit or vegetable juice, you want to drink those enzymes. Unfortunately, those enzymes go bad after a few hours, much less have a shelf life, hence why companies have to heat it, to kill them. So you are wasting your time drinking shelf drinks, there is little nutrition left in the juice.
Hope this answers your question. Lynette |
