Health & Support desperate.. Sep 23 2008

Have you ever noticed how shame keeps us from getting the help that we need. For instance an alcoholic may not reach out because they are ashame or even  a student who is having trouble with school may not ask for help because they are ashamed. Sometime it feels like shame itself is actually part of the problem. You can't change what has happened, you can only effect what will happen today and tomorrow. My suggestion would be to let go of shame and guilt and get the help and support you need and deserve. If your Doctor isn't understanding you, replace her, remember she's only human and may not understand your situation. Plenty of people take care of there appearence when there depressed that's only one small simptom. Reach out to people who will support you, I know that can be difficult, but it's important.

My biggest simpton for when I'm getting really depressed is that I take several baths throughout the day, pretty silly huh?

My hope is that you take care of yourself today. For years a Friend of mine has given me the same advise, now even when she's not hear I say it to myself when I'm giving myself aa hard time, " be gentle with yourself".

There is a slight increase in your metabolism 3 to 4 days before your Menes starts accounting for aprox. 100 to 200 calories. I had heard that years ago and I just did some research on line.

It's also easy to become dehydrated during our period and getting enough fluids is important.

Fitness Low/High Impact Aerobics: Confused! Sep 12 2008

Hi,

I was wondering the same thing. I taught aerobics for about 10 years, way back when :-). Now I take a West African dance class on average twice a week, it's a lot tougher then any aerobics class I ever was able to teach, I think one big reason is they don't follow the same rules of health and safety that I had to follow in a gym, it's much more fun :-) But I can never figure out how to record my calories, so I looked on line and found this sight www.triathlontrainingblog.com ; using your heart rate to calculate calories burned, I don't know how accurate it is, but I thought it might help.

Foods What is one food you know you probably eat too much of, but can't/won't stop? Aug 28 2008

Soft serve ice cream, I can go all day eating healthy, in fact my ex-husband didn't want to have lunch with me the other day, he said our diets were to different now. Guess he tought I'd give him tofu and steamed greens :-) he could use some. But at the end of the day I always get a craving for a chocolate vanila cone with rainbow sprinkles !

I have only one child, so this may be easier said then done :-) but when he was an infant I used to use him in my work out. He was like one of those earth balls, I could lift him up in front of me and work out my shoulders, I would do squats holding him close to me and just generally try to figure out how to incorporate him into healthy movements, so I could get a little exercise and he would be happy and occupied at the same time, he loved it. Also I got a baby back pack and took him hiking, we went up four mountains that summer, I know that's easier with one child, but I think walking is one of the best exercises and you can do it with lots of kids around. I've also taken kids to the play ground and played on the jungle gym with them, it's fun and great exercise.

I know your busy, I hope that helps.

I agreee with everyone here on seeing a Doctor. I used to teach aerobics, I started getting pain in my knee and kept going for months and ended up with an injury that lasted 5 years, I had pain every day for years. I'ts hard to take time off or to see a doctor when know we may not want to hear what they have to say, but knowledge is power. They may tell you something that makes all the difference, my Doctor said to do wieght training, it helped a lot.

The other down side of staying active through an injury is that as we warm up our bodies, the pain starts to go away, so then we push harder because we feel better and end up doing more damage.

I hope you feel better soon.

i really like Tofu, but lately I've been eating more Tempey. It may be a bit of an aquired taste :-) it's fermented soy bean and less processed then Tofu, also much ligher in protien. For me the fermention of the beans seems to make them easier to digest, I don't know if that would help for you, but it might be worth a try.

imtkain, I just wrote down the shake recipe, it sounds great, I'm going to try it with my next dance class, Thanks

I bought got EAS chocolate from Costco in a 6# bag for $35.00, it seemed cheaper there. I was a little concerned I wouldn't like also and I'd be stuck with a bunch of protien mix. It's actually tasty.

The other night night I really wanted a bowl of ice cream but I also wanted to stay healthy, so what I did was put a glass in the freezer so it got cold then mixed 1/2 C low fat vanilla yogurt, 1cup of cherries and 1 serving of chocolate protien mix in my food processer. I put it all in the cold glass and every 10 min. or so mixed it up until it was almost a sort of  ice cream.
