| Weight Loss | I lost 8 lbs the first week but stuck to the rules - is that bad? | Jan 14 2009 01:38 (UTC) |

my deficit is actually been consistently about 700. so im eating enough, i never feel hungry, i think it might just be how my body works. but i have nothing to compare it to because i have never stuck with a good plan before, but i have big time goals now so im sticking to it. im only 5 foot 141 lbs so im not huge and i only have 21 more pounds to go and i will be happy. i started at around like 155. i feel really good though. should i just ride it out like you said? maybe my body is in shock with not seeing burgers and pizza all the time. lol |

3 is way more than 1% but i mean im doing everything right, im certainly not going to stop working out or start eating a big mac to stay on the 2 pound a week goal. maybe its just how my metabolism works? but should i ask a doctor or go with it? |

diet plan...hahahaa. i have learned not to plan anything ahead of time. lol. with twokids, two jobs and an unemployed bf, im lucky to plan shower time, ahha. but what i do plan is what not to eat. I am a conveinence eater. so i dont measure food and i dont plan out calories. what i usually do is see where my activities the following day are going to lead me. will i be home? work? in the car? so basically what i do is eat what i know. I only eat things that i know what the calories are and then i know where im at for day. so breakfast always gets me. i eat a egg and cheese sandwich on an english muffin, but its before i go to gym so i know i work most of it off. thats about 300 right there, but so good, then lunch is usually noodles with diced tomatoes and oil or i will have a sandwich or something and a humungous bowl of carrots. i love carrots and maybe some spinach - thats a fav too. then dinner i have same but opposite what i had for lunch. my snack at work ( i work 5-12midnight) is always waflles (2) with peanut butter. its good and i eat that rigth at 8 so the rest of the night im good and i wont find myself at snack bar. I eat only 1050 daily. that is 7 calories for every pound that you weigh which is what the personal trainer at the gym put me at. and honestly i dont feel deprived at all. i work out like crazy for the hour in the monring and as a busy mom i burn crazy calories with daily housework. its all about keep moving. dont sit and watch tv. watch tv while laying on the floor doing hip raises. just keep moving. my kids love to dance so right after nap every day i put the kid music station on tv and we have a "dance Party" for 20 minutes. kills their energy and i get to act silly and lose weight while enjoying time with kids. I think i do pretty good with calorie burn. There is ALWAYS time for dance party with kids. we all say we dont have time to work out but i find it takes more energy making a plan sitting at table than it does to just fly by seat of pants and have fun. get active. its not about the treadmill and going to the gym - just keep moving, if we burn calories sleeping, can you imagine what we burn running around like a nuts case mother of a 5 and 3 year old all day. exactly. |

So i read all the blogs from the beginning, and I will admit, Im laughing, because that was me. I was the one crying busy all the time, single mom of a 5 and 3 year old. One of which feels the need to get involved in every possible activity and take up even more time that i dont have. I work nights from 5 to midnight and that means that i am up at 7 am every morning and go to bed at 130 in the morning. nuts, i know. My only saving grace is that my bf is there at night so i dont pay a daycare person (saves me from getting a second job to take up more time i dont have - theres a pattern starting here) so everyone puts there schedule on here, so hold on to your chairs. haha - and keep in mind, this is only for mon wed fri 7 am - wake up to my son pounding on his door becuase he cant get out (haha we put a safety handle cause the kid will tear the house apart, guaranteed) 730 am - make breakfast for son, and attempt to get dressed and put on a little makeup(haha) and try to wake daughter up 745 - finally wake daughter up and get her dressed for school. we leave at 8 so thats real fun 8 - wake bf up (not working - whole other blog, lol) and leave with daughter , leaving son at home with daddy 830 drop daughter off at pre-k. go to dunkin donuts - of course 9 home and pick up son and all the laundry and go to laundromat ( my family acquires a lot of laundry and i find it cheaper and quicker to do it at laundromat every other day). 930-1030 - do laundry while wrestling to keep a 3 year old boy at ease so not to embarrass myself at laundromat (theres 3 days of a workout there lol) 11 - put all laundry away for about 15 minutes and then start lunch for son. 1145 hes done eating and now its nap time. put him to bed and do dishes, clean bathroom, make all beds and just do basically everything in the house that i cant do with him running around - yea, i kow what your thinking "where is unemployed bf", hes on internet "looking for a job" bull - i know. like i said, its a whole different blog. at about 130 son gets up and him and i go to target - i can always find something i need there. but we walk for about 30 minutes, does that count? 215 leave to get daughter at school for 230 300 im home, I take a shower, ahhhh alone time, then leave for work at 4 and get home at 1245 am. onto the next day. but i will tell you, i learned real quick. now when i drop my daughter at school, instead of going home to do all the stupid housework, i stop at my work which is 3 minutes away and go to their gym. im there till about 10 which is one hour and then i go home. so it cuts out some housework time and target time, but you know what, the dishes will always be dirty, the laundry will never be done, and my son will never stop being a menace, but the one thing i can change is that i will not die FAT! and p.s - once bf goes back to work (which god help me is soon) then my aunt already said i can drop my son off there (lives on my street) on way to bring daughter to school and she will watch him till 1030 when i get home, for only 25 a week. so i still will not have a good excuse to not go to gym. Its about doing what you have to do , not doing what you want to do. I hate the gym, i hate eating healthy and i hate breakiing a sweat. but i love beaches and i love "nighttime activities" and i love going out on a fri night and having a few beers. so if i means i suffer all week for only 5 hours all week so i can be confident, and proud of what i look like, thats not really such a sacrifice now is it? |

hey everyone. I am 5'0 and right now about 150. I am 26 and a nother of a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy. when i was 9 months preg with daughter i weighed 110...nice! when i gave birth ileft the hospital in size 3 and weighing about 95 lbs. wonderful. son was different story. i weighed about 175 at 9 months and when left hospital about 160 and since then (two years ago) i am only down to about 150. disgusting. it will not go away. i gained in stomach thighs arms and even my ankles. i hate it. its depressing. i literally have pictures of my self at 22 all around my house with a label saying "look how good this is and YOU HAD A BABY TWO MONTHS BEFORE THIS PHOTO" so thats my :motivation: so to speak. I need to lose weight big time, but i need to lose quick because im losing all grasp of me and i hate it. im seriously sometimes at the point wherer im like, i dont even care if im fat forever but then i see people that have kids my own kids age and im like, oh my goodness i need to get back to it. i need motivation big time. someone tell me a guideline, like give me a challenge, dont suggest, say, Jesi - lose 2 pounds this week, or got to the gym on mon wed fri. I think i just need to be talked to like a 5 year old because apparently i am not very good at self motivation |

I knwo you dont know me from a hole in the wall, but i have been in your exact situation. the only difference is that i wasnt breastfeeding (she would literally puke after and it would hit a wall across room) but i will tell you one thing! schedule!!! when i had my daughter i was literally 21 and single, her dad was 3 hours away and we werent together (he actualy had another gf at this point) so it was all me. I went back to work at 6 days old and she was with a family friend. I needed her on a schedule for our lives to work. Babies are the absolute smartest creatures on earth. they know what we need and with repetiiton they are willing to give it to us. i would put my daughter down consistently after a bottle (well 20 min later to digest ) at like 9 every night, no matter if she was tired or not, she needed to learn that this is bed time and this is where we sleep (which was emotionally hard on me cause all i wanted to do was hold her). then she would wake up around 3 am and usually i would just put my hand on her belly or back and just say something softly to her, just so she heard my voice (up until 6 months thoguh it was hunger and thats fine, she would get a bottle, go to bed then i would do this) but after 6 months, i knew it was just fussiness. after about 9 months of this, she was going to bed at night at 9 and not waking up till about 7 or 8. yeah tell me how awesome that is. Now get this, the doctor told me i was wrong in doing this because a baby needs to eat every 2 hours, the man wanted me to wake her up every 2 hours at night to feed!!!! are you kidding! i was working full time, doing mom full time by myself, did you really think i was going to do that! pssh no....and she turned out perfectly fine, i even did this with my son when i had him too and he was same way but he likes to sleep more, so he was actually 4 months sleeping 9 hour nights, ( wish he would do that now, but 2.5 year olds are earlier risers, LOL) moral of story, YOUR the mother, you know your child better than anyone, and the best thing you could do for yourself and that child is to teach them that life has schedules and consistency is everything, if you used to go for walks at night at 6 pm then now you pack stroller and go for walks at 6pm. it will make your life so much easier if you guys "jive" so to speak. they are born with no time management skills, you need to instill them, and believe me, she will appreciate it because she will get to know that 9 is bed time, 6 pm is walk with mom time, it shows her consistency and children thrive for normalcy. my daughter is 5 now and at 9 every night she will say to me ok mom ill see you in morning, and goes to bed by herself and in the monring, she stays in her room until i go in thre at 700 to wake her up for school. my 2.5 year old son is same way (though he gets out of bed in morning and makes a racket with toys) There is a samying that having a baby changes everything and it does, but it does not make us incapable of still being a human and still being our own independent persons. a good mother cores from a good woman. and p.s. you made one freakin cute kid!!!! Good luck with everything and realize every move you make is just another thing that you are learning, mistakes are forgiven and that little girl will love you unconditionally! enjoy it, it doesnt last long - take it from a woman with a 5 year old! LOL |

Hey, I was waiting for one of these to open up.... My name is Jessica I am 26 (well in 12 days i will be) I am 150 lbs and have 2 kids. which i cant use as an excuse cause my daughter is 4.5 and my son is 2.5 so i have had plenty of time to take it off. I need motivation and challenges because i am very easily lazy. like i will make so many excuses to not work out, or justify mcdonalds and wendys by saying, its chicken, its fine. Lets work together and see where we end up. I want to be 20 pounds lighter by xmas for sure. |

I am in the same boat. i have no problem losing in my body, but my arms, it has gotten to the point that even though i have lost 15 lbs and can fit in nice clothes again, i find myself only buying 3/4 sleeves. i wanna wear a tank top again! i heard that reverse curls work with weight. but with kids ( i saw in a different forum you have twins) its not easy to find time to exercise. but i started doing while i was making dinner, LOL> i curl a family size can of veggies or spag sauce. LOL. it works though. and exercizes that you life over your head work real good too. |

I basically strategize in my head. Like I know if I have a big breakfast, everything else is little. Or if Im about to eat something, i just think of the ingredients. I probably go over some days but i know some days Im way under. And it seems to be working. I think i might go back though, cause im going back to gym this week and i really need to focus on that 1000 deficit. |

bet you all thought i went away huh? well i didnt. im still keeping chart. and so far, its pretty impressive. as i said before, this is wedding.christening.bday. shower season. but i am seriously amazed at myself. my goal for the last two weeks was not to "count' calories. i was going to see how good i could do on my own. when i tell you that i was at 139.8 on july 11. I weighed in today at 131 about even ( i broke my digital scale, tell me that wasnt a self esteem nightmare). I am at a total of 12 lbs ( not as good as chacha with 13) but when i had to start putting the belt on the next loop i actually started to cry, like all out, 5 year old, give me my damn lollipop cry. MY bf actually got scared, thought i was upset, and offered to buy me a new belt. funniest thing ever, but i was psyched. 2 more weeks to go. Talk to you all on the 1st! |

Im still here too! This has been crazy summer so far. I attended that shower for my cousins wedding, i was so good. I had ordered the chicken. I was so nervous that it would come drenched in butter and oils and gravy. i was so excited when it didnt, there was the chicken, stuffing under it, mashed potatoes on side, and also summer squash steamed on the side, and much to my pleasure, the butter was on side, gravy on side. I obv put some butter and gravy on the food, but i was able to say how much. Ive started to notice that saying no to bad food is not really that hard, or eating healthy-er is not all that hard. I stepped on scale today and I am down 9 lbs in the last 3 weeks, and that is truly JUST changing my diet to include more veggies and water and less boxed, canned, food. I have not done any exercise (at a gym) in over a month. The only activities i do is laundry and run around with kids, well and house work all day, every day. But can you all imagine how good i would do if i went to gym like i used to. Im going to go back though, I feel so much better when i go to the gym and on another note (little more personal - and prob boring to you all, but im psyched about it) : Bill moved in. Bill and I have very long history, we share a daughter, broke up, i got married, had another child, got divorced, back with bill (mouth full i know) but finally after 7 years of always talking about "what if this had happened" we are there. He officially moved all his stuff in this weekend, and though im not to happy that i had to get rid of my king bed and now sleep in a full, I am finally exactly in the relationship/life status that i have wanted for so long. I really think this will be great for my weight loss too because when im bummed out, i eat. when im bored, i eat. Now with him around all the time, im happy, we do things, we are always laughing, its wonderful! How is everyone else's summer going? |

Seriously ladies, finances are ruining my weight life. I am at the bank every lunch, it seems like, so now i keep trying to be good by getting salads or something. NOO not today, today i get a burger but i justified it by saying that i havent had one in a while. it was good, but now i feel like poo. i have no plans tomo so maybe gym day. Bill and I have decided to start bringing lunch so i know i wont be going to the cafe. So i will have no good excuse to not go to gym. we'll see. |

No! I definitely went to the bank. I know, its annoying, but my ex wont direct deposit child support because that would be easy for me, and god forbid he do anything easy for me. So every monday usually i have to go to bank, stinks. But whatever. I have been doing a lot of walking lately though. not like aggressive walking but walking none the less. I lost 4.2 last week, so Im on a roll.....at least for me. |

Hey, you guys are still there! I was starting to get worried that no one was going to post! Im impressed! so far, KLA is up with 7.8, chacha not far behind with 7, then loving with 5 and then I had a whopping 4.2 loss this week alone. Apparently, I didnt like losing so bad so I stepped it up a bit. paid off. So i am at 139.8. So nice to break thru the 140 point. and i cant even imagine how much better i would be doing if i actually worked out too. I really have just been eating better, and staying at 1250 every day, no matter if that means i just have a peanut butter jelly sandwich for summer. wedding/christening/shower season is starting tomorrow. lets see how controlled i am in all of that. this will be the true test!!! so i found a new trick, I bought a huge bag of the tootsie pops and it has helped me with the eating between meals things. I just pop one in everytime i decide i want something bad. LOL So where is everyone located? |

HAHA! I just wish I could motivate myself half as much! LOL. I actually have not even been logging my food, because I did it for about 3 weeks, so i know what I can eat and stay where I need to be. That is huge for me because i am very easily swayed by a good meal. Last night we went to Ruby Tuesday, and I knew i was having a few beers so I purposely only got mashed potatoes plain and some mozz and tomato salad. So i still stayed at a 800 deficit for yesterday. i never realized how easy it actually is to eat correctly. The workout thing is a WHOLE other story however. i try to work out. but next week is all back to normal now so I will be back at the gym everyday for 35 minutes at a time. and now that weather is so nice, i think i am going to TRY to get up at 530 and walk around the circle in neighborhood for 45 minutes. that will still give me plenty of time to get ready and I will keep telling myself that "no pain is no gain (or loss in this case. LOL)" On a more positive note, I am back to 143 which means i lost the pound that i gained last week. SO no loss, but at least ground zero is nice. Another positive note. The stats so far. Chacha - you are down 6.2!!!!! woot woot KLA - youre wrong, your actually down 5.2 according to the numbers you gave me....way to bust butt! Loving - youre at 3.5. seriously, you guys are wooping my butt. I am seriously gonna need to "step" it up this week! |

Yeah i hear that. we just got another remote and two wheels for mario kart. 40 for remote, 50 for game and like 15 for the extra wheel. Its nuts, it adds up. but my bday is Aug 22 so hopefully Bill will buy it for me. I really want it. Yeah i hear the couch to 5k is good, but i really HATE running. Plus I smoke ( i know its bad, but i have already given up coffee, sugar and alcohol) baby steps right? lol. I bought Bill tickets to a Red Sox game in Baltimore ( we live outside Boston ) on Aug 18th and i know im going to want to go out and eat and drink and just "vacation" so i wanna be able to get on right track now so i dont blow my "diet" out of water. we have a wedding shower june 28, wedding july 12th, christening the 13th, wedding aug 8th, 15th vacation the 18th gthru 20th then another wedding october 10th, so you can see the urgency in wanting to look in "shape" |

So at work is the only time i have. I might just have to start walking with kids at night. Leave one home with him and take one, then next night leave the other one out. That might work, wont be intense work out, but something at least |

Ok, so first off, I need to say im not a weirdo, with that being said though, i have spent the last 4 days reading everything in the last 34 pages. LOL. My name is Jessica and this is the first time in my life (26 years) that I have ever stuck to a "diet" - life change, as you will. I have 2 kids. A four year old girl, Kallieh and a 2 year old boy, Tai. i had Kallieh when I was 21 and I literally wore my normal jeans the entire pregnancy and left the hospital in them and they were big. I was a size 3 the moment I had her. Granted, i was also a single mom so for the first year I had no money so couldnt afford to eat. LOL. Then I met my (now ex) husband. and the man loved his 3 times a day meals. so we would always go out to eat, subs, pizza. i gained 30 lbs before even getting pregnant with my son. so then after my son, all the weight came off but body was never the same. I am 5'0 and 150 lbs. I was 105 when i met him so im looking at like a 45 lb loss. It is NOT easy. I start to lose but then it starts creeping back again. I have tried every diet pill, weight watchers, gym but never thought to change life style. I have now for 3 weeks and i will be honest, im not so impressed yet. I have only lost a pound. Not happy. And with kids at home, not easy to get to gym. We have a gym at work but I can only go at lunch and I find that I have errands to run (go to bank, target, forgot lunch). I have 1250 to eat every day and that is with burning about 1700 so at least i have a def.I want closer to 1000 def but cant find the time to get another 500 in there everyday. And p.s. i feel like I know all of you already, it was so much fun (and laughter) listening to all the stories. You are all workout horses! I love it. Love - How, with 3 kids, doyou EVER find the time to work out THAT much, your an angel. LOL |
