I had the RAI back in 2001 when I was only 21 years old. Since then, it has been hell with my weight and my mood. Both of them are continously on a roller coaster. I read a few years ago that Japan was testing a new method for hypothyroid patients, and it was successful so far; however, I have not been able to find anymore information about it. They transplanted live thyroid tissue to the forearm muscle in patients, and it started producing hormones. I feel like the US would never bring such technologies here because they'd lose so much money from freakin Synthroid. Have you found anything that works weight wise. I've been on this site for about a year, but I've slacked a lot since, so now I'm determined to stick with it this time. I just get frustrated because it always takes me so long to see results, and then I feel like I blink my eye and the weight comes right back! |

I think that is sooo true! I have been through so many endos and most of them are old as hell! I got this new one this past June, and when I described my symptoms, he didn't even hesitate to add cytomel. I go back next month for a follow up and blood work...the only thing I was skeptical of was the fact that my Synthroid was cut back from .125 to only .88. Is that standard? |

Frany, I am so glad for your post! I have been checking back since I posted. My doc told me to give the cytomel atleast 8 weeks...I was prescribed cytomel on the 4th of June and I go back for blood work in early August. So far, small, small weightloss, but on the + side, no more gaining! As for the Armour, so many people have sooooo many great things to say about it, but I tried it before, gained 17 pounds, and I felt absolutely horrible. Like you, I do not have any thyroid function at all, and I think that some things that work for some, do not work for us. The Armour is natural, so it is harder to control the actual dosage...each pill could be different. I even do horrible on the generic levy. I have been doing research, because no matter what, I do not feel like myself! I have read up on some research surgeries done in China that consists of transplanting thyroid tissue on your forearm muscle and it starts producing hormones! Most of the patients were able to discontinue use of their meds, and one was put back on her meds; however, I feel like even a little bit of natural hormone is better than none. I have also found a place called that specializes in biomedical hormones here in my hometown. It's expensive, but I plan on atleast going to the consultation because they do a full work-up on you. Most endos only test thyroid function, and so many other vital organs and glands are affected in our bodys from hypothyroidism. Anyways, please see if you can find out some more info about the research surgery because I have run into a wall! Take care and keep me posted! |

How did you two lose that much weight that fast? Please tell me!!! I feel like nothing i'm doing is working, and I'm hypothyroid, so that doesn't help. It's almost to the point where I want to just give up and seek counseling to learn to love me the way that I am...I feel that I am all out of options...I try to eat right, I work out like crazy, yet this freaking thyroid problem just will not allow my body to let go of the weight. I have friends that I persuade to work out with me and they lose weight while mine just lingers... |

For some reason, the link did not pull up, but I have a flabby stomach. Mine came after I had my two kids, but I have friends that have kids, and their stomachs don't look like mine! I always had a nice looking stomach until now, and it drives me insane!!! Have you found any suggestions. I just ordered Barry's Bootcamp, and I'm starting it tommorrow...hopefully it works! I'm not too big, but I'm bigger than I was. I was about a 4 to 6 before I had my kids, and now I'm a 10. Everyone always tells me that I don't need to lose weight and I don't look bad, but they just piss me off because I know where I want to be to be happy!! |
