Original Post by chelslaw1984: An "8" on the treadmill is the same as 8 mph. That is already very fast for most people -- it's great for HIIT training, but sure hard to sustain! Most treadmills do go up to 10mph, though, so if you want to up your HIIT training there will still be room to do so. Good luck in your search! |

I really love this recipe here:
1. Toss red onion and balsamic vinegar in small bowl. Let stand 10 minutes.
2. Pierce spaghetti squash in several places with
sharp knife. Microwave 7 minutes on high power. Turn, and microwave 7
to 9 minutes more, or until squash gives slightly when 3. Whisk parsley, olive oil, garlic, brown sugar, orange zest, and salt into balsamic vinegar mixture. 4. Halve squash lengthwise carefully (it will give off steam), and remove seeds. Scrape flesh with fork into large bowl. Combine with parsley mixture and chopped pistachios. Season with salt and pepper. This is just the base...feel free to add cherry tomatoes, yellow peppers, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, etc... I always do! This serves 4 and is about 200 calories per serving. |

Hey! Just to start off, I generally don't post on CC anymore and haven't used the site to count calories for about three months... but when I happened to read your post it really stood out to me because it reminded me of the exact same issues I had over the summer. I lost a lot of weight this summer, generally in a "healthy" but obsessive manner. I always ate the required 1,500 calories, but I thought about food nonstop. I looked at food blogs, I read labels, I surfed the CC forums, and I planned out my meals. When I went out with friends I thought so much about food and what I "could" eat...it began to control my time and really ended up making me unhappy. When I would let go and eat like the rest of my friends, afterwards I would feel disgusting and overweight. My problem was finding a healthy medium. In the end, the only way I could solve this issue was ending my use of CC. I know that it's a great tool for thousands of people, but the calorie counting just got too obsessive for me. Now I haven't counted for three months and have built a really healthy relationship with food...I eat when I'm hungry whatever I want and am not afraid of a small amount of sweets. And the best thing is, I only gained 4 pounds (which I probably needed) and now I'm at a steady weight. Sometimes I still have negative food thoughts, but I just remind myself to listen to my body. I don't eat for others, but I do eat for myself, and I recognize that sometimes I DO want something sweet. My point is this: You'll feel a lot happier if you stop thinking about food constantly and just enjoy your time. A small piece of cake will not hurt. Even a big piece won't, as long as you don't make it a habit. Good luck! |

Hey guys! Wow, it's been a while... I've stopped counting calories and am now eating what feels like a healthy and good amount, and it's great because I haven't gained any weight and am happily maintaining =) Anyway, I thought I'd post today, just to check in and say hi! Breakfast: Lemon yogurt with one sliced banana and granola. Sliced peach and apple. Lunch: Large salad with yellow bell pepper, tomatoes, and carrot. Small quesadilla with cheese, oregano, hot pepper, and tomato. Snack: Two taralli al peperoncino (amazing spicy round Italian crackers) and a cookie. Dinner: Farro salad with roasted vegetables (zucchini, red pepper, asparagus, onion) and a pesto sauce. Topped with pecorino cheese. Dessert: Cookies. Anyway, I moved with my family to Italy for 4 months (to Bologna!) and the food here is incredible and I'm just working on proportion sizes and such. Hopefully I'll post again soon. Bye! |

I agree that a scale is best. That said, let's say you go out to dinner and want to log what you've eaten once you get home. The best way is to visualize food amounts in terms of objects you are already familiar with i.e. a deck of cards, a floppy disk, dominos. This way you can approximate how many ounces or grams you ate. Here is one website that I found helpful, here is another. Hope that helps! |

Breakfast: A smoothie made with 1 frozen peach, 1 plum, and a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Half a cup of Special K cereal. Lunch: An egg-white omelette with cherry tomatoes and cilantro. Sliced cucumber and coleslaw on the side. Chickpeas. Snacks: 1 small brownie, coleslaw, and cantaloupe. Dinner: Vegetable risotto with asparagus and mushroom. Coleslaw and corn on the cob. Small bowl of pinto beans and cherry tomatoes. Later tonight: I'm not sure yet, but I need to eat something pretty caloric because I'm low today. Ugh. My stomach kinda hurts though =( Maybe some peanut butter, idk. |

Breakfast: A smoothie made with a peach, a banana, and almond milk. Lunch: Rice cake topped with hummus and sprouts. A big bowl of cabbage sauteed with jalapeno peppers, onion, and spices. Snack: Pita bread and guacamole. Later in the day I snacked on some of a luna bar and about a cup of blueberries. Dinner: Wagon wheel pasta topped with spicy tomato sauce. Baked zucchini and squash, sprinkled with parmesan cheese and pepper. Coleslaw with carrots. Dessert: I had friends over... so I ended up eating a HUGE amount of dessert. But that's life, and I enjoyed it! I had a huge slice of whole wheat banana bread, as well as two brownies. |

Breakfast: Special K Protein Plus cereal with almond milk and blueberries... it's kind of getting old, but cereal is the easiest breakfast :/ Lunch: Egg white omelette made with mushrooms, tomatoes, and sprouts. Served on toast with a wedge of laughing cow cheese. Snack: Chocolate Pecan Pie Luna Bar Dinner: Green pepper stuffed with brown rice, beans, eggplant, carrot, and tomato. Corn on the cob. Dessert: Whole wheat banana bread with dried cranberries. On a side note, I was wondering what Ezekiel bread is... does it taste good? Thanks! |

| The grade system can be really unreliable, but even so I might suggest Special K Protein Plus cereal. It gets a grade of A and is like 100 calories for 3/4 cup. It also has 10g protein, and tastes really good! I started off eating the original stuff, but then tried the protein plus and never went back because it's way more filling. | |||
| Young Calorie Counters | At what time did you start to notice your weight? | Aug 12 2008 14:54 (UTC) |

I first added the word "fat" to my vocabulary when I was 10. I was living in Italy at the time, and the kids were much meaner there than at the school in NY I had come from. One boy called me fat all the time. Then, when I was 12, I went back to visit the school, and another boy said, in Italian, "Oh, I see the elephant has decided to visit!" They thought I couldn't understand, but I did. I wasn't even an overweight kid, I was just a lot more muscular than the other Italian girls at my school. I didn't start trying to do anything about my weight until this year though, when I realized I had gained a lot. At 5'9" and 155 pounds, I decided to get back to my regular weight a year ago, which had been 130. I'm there and super happy now... so HAH! I still want to go back to Italy, find those boys, and kick them in the balls. =) |

Breakfast: Protein Plus Special K cereal with almond milk and fresh blueberries. Lunch: Greek salad topped with roasted red peppers, tomato, cucumber, and feta cheese. Balsamic vinaigrette. Snack: The most amazing "banana ice cream" thing. I went to this ice cream place in Princeton, NJ, and they make this thing where they freeze ripe bananas and then put them through a juice strainer... and it makes this incredible ice-creamy banana dessert. They don't add any sugar or anything, it's just banana, and it tastes like ice cream/ custard/ pudding. Haha, I think I scared the people working at the place because I wouldn't stop asking questions about how to make it. Supposedly it should work at home! =) Snack 2: One or two pretzels and diet coke. Dinner: Home-made "ratatouille stew" with eggplant, zucchini, mushroom, pepper, and tomato sauce. Brown rice served on the side. |

Aww I love my back dimples! I've had them as long as I can remember, and all the women in my family have them. My mom always told me that when I got older I'd see why they are so awesome... and now I know why. Guys LOVE them! Really, all of my guy friends or boy friends have thought they are adorable and sexy. Haha, I think it's pretty cool =) But I think mine stayed the same size even though I lost weight... hmm. |

If I log your information under "light activity", then you burn 4,100 daily. For a loss of 1 lb a week, eat 3600. For a loss of 2 lbs a week, you can eat 3,100. Eating 3,100 creates a deficit of 1000 calories. Do not exceed this. Good luck!

Hi Mike. So it's great that you've realized you need to get yourself out of starvation mode. I quickly calculated your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). BMR is the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day, as if you were in a coma. It is important to never eat under your BMR, because this number is what your body needs for all of it's organs to function properly. Your BMR is 3016. So you should not be eating under that amount. You can then use the tools on CC to figure out how much you burn when you include all of your daily activities. Judging from the exercise you do, I would put your activity level at either "sedentary" or "light". Overall, you should probably be eating around 3600 calories a day. I hope this helped. Good luck! |

starcrossedlovex: I agree that this is getting a little out of hand, but I still don't think the forum should be deleted because regardless of the ridiculous teens who post 400-calorie days, I still find that many of the posts give me awesome meal plans and ideas for my own diet. And I think that all of us can tell who isn't eating enough...when I see someone who is unhealthy, I think to myself, "Well, thank God I'm not slowly killing myself! Yay for me, and the fact that I eat over 1,500 calories every day". I just ignore those posts and go back to reading what people who actually EAT have posted. Anyway, just my two-cents... =) Breakfast: Special K Protein Plus cereal with almond milk and blueberries. A large peach. Snack: Cherry tomatoes and cucumber. Lunch: Tofu shirataki noodles mixed with laughing cow cheese, parmesan cheese, and cherry tomatoes. Snack: Sliced apple topped with sugar and cinnamon, baked. Dinner: Burrito filled with rice, spicy beans, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, salsa, jalapenos, cucumber, and guacamole. Yum! Dessert: Blueberry-peach crumble, warm from the oven, topped with vanilla frozen yogurt. |

when_i_fly_and_look_down: I think what you eat is really inspiring! It always looks like you get enough calories, and not only that, but it seems like your meals are all really varied and inventive. =) Don't worry, your posts are NOT like those others that have been circulating on this forum. What I ate today: Breakfast: Big bowl of Special K Protein Plus Cereal with almond milk and fresh blueberries. A plum on the side. Snack: Peanut Butter Cookie Luna Bar (first time trying this flavor... not the best, sadly) Lunch: Avocado, cucumber, tomato, and green pepper salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Toast with homemade "peanut butter and jelly hummus". Sounds strange, but it's really yummy. Dinner: Gemelli pasta with spicy jalapeno tomato sauce. Zucchini rounds baked with parmesan cheese and lots of pepper. Dessert: Half a banana topped with PBJ hummus. Yum. |

i actually thought it was pretty fun. My favorite flavors are strawberry and green apple. Peach is pretty good too, but I'd stay away from coconut. It made me feel sick. Hookah is not something I'd do very often...maybe once a year, but it is fun. Makes me drink a TON of water though! |
