They do offer some sugar free syrups but I'm not sure if they offer them with Frappuccinos.  And I don't think 120 calories is too bad for a snack.  If it is that big a craving, and its not like you have it every day, then treat yourself a bit.

Foods Dangers of diet soda Aug 13 2008

As with anything, I think one can safely consume diet soda as long as it is in moderation.  Now, there are people who drink 2 or 3 cans every day.  These are the people who might see some of the side-effects associated with the artificial sweetners.  Also, someone who drinks 2-3 cans of soda is obviously not hydrating themselves properly with good old H20 because they use up so much of their liquid intake on soda.  But for the person who likes a can of soda every few days, I would have to assume that it is ok to reach for a can of diet.  As I said, in moderation, most things aren't really bad for you.  I used to drink lots of diet soda but I find that water is far better for hydration and for cleaning out your system.  I drink soda so rarely that it becomes a treat.  So based on that, I allow my treat to at least be a regular can of soda.  Oh the wonderful taste of sugar and corn syrup :)

26 lbs is definitely WAY to much to lose in one month.  There is absolutely no way to drop 26 lbs of fat in that time span.  Don't rush to do it.  It is a slow and sready process, but I'm sure you can reach that goal in a healthy manner over a longer period of time.

Yeah, a ten minute mile sounds about average because I think most people consider a 6.0 pace to be just average running.  Not too slow, and not too fast.  So a 10 min average sounds about right.

My friend was highly overweight and had a similar loss of 10 lbs in the first 2 weeks.  He was around 300 lbs so changing a diet that drastically at such a high weight can induce alot of initial weight loss that obviously slows down pretty fast.

Weight Loss Whats Better Byciling or walking/jogging Aug 08 2008

Well, there are a few factors to consider.  If you rank them just by calories burned, then jogging is usually the most, biking second, and walking third.  However, jogging can put a bit of a strain on the knees and joints, especially if you are overweight.  So a low-impact bike ride might be the best choice in such a case.  However, any of these activities can be used for weight loss and exercise so go for whichever you like the most.

I'be been a Costco member as long as I can remember.  Obviously the best benefit is that you get a bulk size for a cheap price.  You will pay far less than if you bought it per individual unit in a grocery store.  Plus, they always have items that I have never seen or tasted before in other stores.  The Costco I go to always has people preparing little samples of new items for people to taste.

It's impressive how people can get angry over 20 calories. :)

Its actually sort of depressing.  Its one thing to take calorie counting seriously.  Its another thing to take it overboard.  This would be taking it overboard.  If anything, its the added sugar that is by far the worse addition to the yogurt, not the 20 calories.

Pretty much anything with turkey is perfect for me.  You would be amazed how many items can be substituted with turkey.  I have turkey burgers, turkey sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, etc.  And to be honest, I like the turkey versions of all these items better than the meat ones.  Heck, they even make turkey bacon.  It is soooo much more lean yet has a great taste.

Make a habit out of going to the gym on campus.  Most schools have great gym facilities that are free to students.  Take advantage of that and try not to make up excuses like most kids will.  Also, don't let stress and frustration make you turn to eating.  This is a VERY common problem in college.  Kids are stressed and they turn to eating as a distraction to give them some sort of temporary satisfaction.  Try not to do this.  Finally, your dining halls will have healthy as well as many unhealthy choices.  Find out what is available at each one and how you can make smart but tasty chocies.

As long as you aren't working the same muscle group on consecutive days that I'm pretty sure that you are fine.  By the way, it is great that you are doing such a varied and strong workout routine.  Make sure you give your body at least 1 day a week of complete rest so you can completely recover.

I can understand one burning 1000 just by living, over the course of the day. But she said she had burned that by 10 AM. That is what is confusing me. One does not burn that much that early without a TON of activity. I would need to run all out for an hour straight to burn that.

An average human being burns roughly 100 calories per hour just by living. It's not impossible to have burned 1000 calories by 10am just by sitting around the house. The burn meter on CC restarts at midnight. Also, some of us don't keep our activity level on sedentary and add in exercise to the burn meter--I find my number crunches are more accurate if I keep things on light activity and don't add activity in.

So it is quite possible that she had a 700 calorie deficit at 10am this morning. However, that'll probably change as she continues to eat and exercise throughout the day. =)

You are right.  I forgot to consider all the calories burned just by living, even sleeping.  I always feel so sluggish from about 7-10 that I assume there is no way a calorie is leaving my body :)

Fitness All about the stomach Aug 08 2008

Sorry to say, but 600 crunches a day is pretty much pointless.  Crunches only target one small area of the abs.  Also, the sheer number of reps that you do will certainly make it so your muscles will stop responding to that exercise VERY quickly.  You need to vary it up with exercises that target all parts of the abs.

And rememeber, it isn't about quantity of the exercise as much as it is quality.  Are you sure you are doing every single one of those crunches in perfect form?  I highly doubt that someone would even have time to do that many crunches in good form because a good crunch is slow and smooth.

Yeah, I was so used to running and hard biking that I just inherently assumed that walking was just reserved for off-days.  But a brisk uphill walk can be quite the workout, especially since a walk will last much longer than a run.  Helps you burn calories while also giving your knees a bit of a rest from running.

Lol, don't worry about the profile.  Ok, it makes a bit more sense now.  Trust me, you did not have a 700 calorie deficit by 10 AM just from being around the house.  If you could, you could just sit around and lose weight without any exercise at all (lucky girl you would be).  I don't think theres anything too surprising about being hungry.  Some days, I just get hungrier faster for no reason.  Best thing you can do is listen to your body's requests when you get hungry instead of ignoring them.  You could essentially eat any sort of healthy snack that will stop your hunger, plus give you energy for your jog.  I like a slice of wheat bread with peanut butter and banana.  If not, any piece of fruit, some nuts, or anything else along those lines.

First of all, a 700 calorie deficit that early is very large and it isn't surprising at all that you were hunrgy. Second, you need more energy in your system before exercise, but I assume thats what the snack is for. By the way, how the heck did you manage to burn 1000 calories before you even exercised? Or is that an exaggeration? As for snack recommendations, eat something with protein or carbs to give you energy before your exercise. At the calorie deficit you had at that point, your body has absolutely no energy to draw off of.

My calories burned for the day just through living are roughly at 1000 right now, so I can see how her numbers aren't too far off.

If you're hungry, eat something! It means the body needs some more fuel. =) If you ate only 300 calories and it's been a while since you've eaten, no wonder you're hungry. A small snack will help prior to exercise. =)

That is a TERRIBLY unhealthy diet and philosophy on eating.  You should be eating at least 1200 calories a day, regardless of body size, gender, etc.  Second, you shoudln't wait until you are hungry to eat.  You should eat evenly spaced meals that don't get you time to ever get hungry in the first place.  This will keep your metabolism going and give your body the ability to burn the most fat and calories.  Seriously, you need to change that diet because it is horrible as is.

People like to think into things a bit too much.  If you do cardio, get your heartrate up, and sweat for awhile, along with eating a healthy diet that isn't high in calories, you will surely lose weight.  The reason one weight trains is because, as you lose fat, you may lose a bit of muscle as well.  Also, extra muscle speeds up metabolism and allows your body to naturally use more calories.  This can lead to greater fat loss.  So, if you want to lose weight, you should be doing cardio about 5 days a week, and definitely getting in an least 2 days of weights.  Finally, make sure you have one rest day in there to let your body recover.

They just released the improved version about a week ago so the purple ones are still good for about 3 weeks or so.  By the way, the newer version really does taste a bit better without the liquidy consistency and completely artificially sweet taste.  Just picked myself up a few from the deli round the corner.

No it isn't 8 oz.  The cup is still 6 oz, but they added 20 calories, and 4 grams of sugar.  They also took out any added Splenda.  They claim that the new recipe is better tasting, and more creamy.  Twenty extra calories is so insignificant that I'm sure anyone on here could safely fit this yogurt into their diet.  Given the nutrition of the yogurt, the extra few calories is worth it.  Not sure why everyone is making such a big deal over so small an amount.  Its not like they doubled the calories.

Just a temporary fluctuation from the drinking.  When you drink heavily before at night, it sits in your stomach.  Plus, alcohol makes your body retain lots of extra water (thats why you get so thirsty a few hours after drinking heavily).  The extra water weight will make the scale go up the next day.  Doesn't mean anything at all.

It is ADDED sugar that you should avoid in your diet.  The sugar in fruits, while you still count it, is thought of as something completely different because it is unrefined and natural, plus it comes along with tons of vitamins and nutrients.  Eat as much fruit as you like.

Yeah, I saw one of those arm-pedal machines in the gym.  With a high resistance, the guy on it seemed to be getting quite a workout.  If you want to stay at home, maybe just do some boxing-style tae-bo moves in your chair.  Just keep punching and moving around your upper body.  This has to get your heartbeat up at least a little bit.  I remember playing my friend's Nintendo Wii and one game has you doing a hammer swing sort of motion over and over hundreds of times.  I was totally getting out of breathe by the end.  Try that sort of move for awhile and see what you think.
