Health & Support weight gain...? Dec 10 2008

It depends on how much you have been eating but it is possible. If you constantly eat less than 1000 calories then your body will adjust to that number. If you then eat more you will gain weight until your body adjusts. It's not fair I know, but it is how it works. Currently I am doing a calorie shifting diet to keep this from happening. I vary my calorie intake every day so my body can't adjust to a set number.

On the bright side your body will also adjust if you start eating more. If you start eating 1,500 calories a day you may notice a weight gain of a few pounds but your body will adjust and you will be able to start losing again.

Hey everyone,

Tweetrita and Krenren did you guys reach your weekend goals....there are only a few days left until the 4th...keep going!

Personally, I had the worst weekend in terms of my diet...On sunday I had the shower for my brothers wedding. The weekend was filled with family, which was nice, but my family makes a lot of food. I loved eating it but I know I'm going to pay for it when i hop on the scale today. O well, a few more days to make up for it. If I lose the weight I probably put on this weekend i will officially be down 10 lbs since I joined this group. I think it will be very important for us all to keep motivating each other, especailly over the fourth of july break... I know I will have to keep reminding myself that just because I'm on vacation I can't go crazy...I'm not going to give up all I have worked for so far.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and those of you already on vacation, I hope you are enjoying it :)

Ha, it's my time of the month too. I was doing so well with my diet until it started...now i just want sweet things (and as cliche as it is, i need chocolate). I tried to avoid the sweets, but then i found cake in the fridge...uh oh...and i just tried  bite...which turned into half a piece...which late that turned turned into the rest of the piece. Oh well, to make up for satisfying my sweet tooth i'm keeping my regular calorie intake even lower. While I'm at work i'm sticking to salad, because i know once i get home I won't stop eating. Only 2 days left of this though.

O and I didn't know it could make you hold water weight. I was so bummed yesterday when I hadn't lost any weight for three days, but maybe that's why. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Welcome Keileen,

I have the same goal set as you do! I was doing a strict 1200 calorie diet because I was told that was the lowest I could take in and still be healthy. But I agree that if you pick the right foods it's almost hard to make 1200 calories. Good luck with your goal :)

Hey all,

I too went to the beach. Now i'm a redhead so I burn wicked easy. I used sunscreen but apparently I missed spots...and those spots are the only places that got sunburned, but they are spread over my body...so i'm basically a red and white dalmation right now...o well...

It was hard staying on track at the beach, I had icecream I'll admit it. I'm weighing in today. 7 lbs down so far and 5 to go before the 4th. I have been straying from my diet and I have a wedding shower this weekend so i'm sure i'll cheat a little there...but all other days i'm going to be strict with my diet, and exersice.

Today (to make up for this weekend)

B: Carrots

L: Salad

D: Salad

60 min eliptical; 30 min aerobics class.

Thanks for the advice, and it actually makes a lot of sense. I jsut started eating tomatoes  and I have always loved carrots, but I put both aside for the past week, and that's when the low energy has started. I'll turn back to those tonight :)

Hey Oink, one thing you might want to try is calorie shifting...sometimes called the zig zag diet. I just started it and I'm down 2 lbs in two days! I have read up on teh subject a lot lately, and finally decided to buy it after, what I call, a "crazy weekend."

I have been trying to eat about 1200 calories a day (the lowest you should take in). One weekend I went out to eat three times (father's day weekend) and I had chicken parm, speghetti, soft preztles, icecream, red meat, corn...basically whatever I wanted. I was wicked scared to step on the scale monday but I decided to do it any way. To my surprise I was down a pound!

The logic behind uping your calories is actually tricking your metabolism. When you eat the same amount of calories (regardless of how few) your metabolism will adjust. However, with this diet you change the number of calories you take in every day, and your metabolism doesn't know what to. You can try to set an average number of calories for the week and some days eat 200 less and others 200 more. There are online calculators you can use to help you, and some online programs as well.

I'll be honest, I just started and the biggest problem I have had is eating enough calories, especailly on those high days. But you really need to push yourself to take in enough otherwise you'll have the same problems. O and drink atleast 8 glasses of water a day.

Ok sorry for how long this post was, I just wanted to explain it the best I could. I hope I helped a little. If you need more info I'd suggest googling :)

Hey everyone,

Krenren77 - I used to be a camp counselor too! It is definately a workout in itself, and wicked exhausting. But in the end it's worth it. (I think I lost about 7 pounds that summer just from running around with the kids).

I have lost another 2 pounds so far, whoo-hoo :) That's a total of 7lbs in the past three weeks. I want to be down another 7 before the 4th...let's see what happens :)

A little bit more advice, texasspeech, I have read a couple articles that say you should try to have even calories before noon and after. But I'm like you and I ususally eat late. Right now I'm on a diet that has me eating 4 times a day. I'm a night snacker too so I shifted my meals and I don't eat until lunch time, then my four meals fit in fine. It's not the best way to do things but it's working.

However, your diet looks great! You should try to have atleast 2 and a half hours between meals so maybe push the dinner to 8:30. If you find you don't want to have a full dinner so late, you could switch the 6 :00 snack to a dinner and snack on fruit around 8:30. What ever works best for you. Keep it up!

Keep going every one!

I'm still doing pretty well on the diet. I had frozen yogurt for the first time ever last night...I loved it. Heck, I like it better than regular ice cream. The best part was it was only 80 calories for half a cup. I gave myself a cup and enjoyed. I'm trying not to weigh myself until tomorrow (i doubt that will happen)

If people are having weight loss success post it to keep us motivated :)

Hey all,

I'm glad to hear every one is doing so well. I just wanted to add to the weekend over eating problem. This weekend was nuts for me (with father's day and what not) I went out to eat 3 times! Now I'm a poor college student so i'm not wasting free food on a salad. I had lamb friday, chicken parm with speghetti saturday, and BBQ chicken and corn on the cob Sunday. I dreaded hopping on the scale Monday. When i got the courage to i found....down another pound! Just over the weekend!

The secret to my success was I planned for eating out. I knew I was goign to be having big dinners so I had just fruits and veggies all day (that let me snack a lot). When I had meals I tried to stay away from carbs. For my chicken parm night, I chopped my meal in half and put it on someone elses plate so I wouldn't be tempted. Now I would suggest doing this all the time (having a really large meal a day can actually make you store more fat) but it worked for me on a crazy weekend.

Desireesmom1027, Good luck with your final !

Good luck everybody, keep it up!

Weight Loss Zig Zaging Calories..works for me Jun 18 2008

Ok, I'm starting to think there is really something to this zigzagging. I have kept my calories low (trying to average 1200) but I have had trouble convincing myself that it's ok to eat more on my high days. However, this weekend I went out to eat 3 times. I'm a poor college student so I'm not wasting a free meal on salad. I had lamb one night, chicken parm (breaded) and with pasta, another, and then chicken BBQ with corn on the cob. I was freaked out that I was going to put a ton of weight back on. On friday I tried not to eat much before I went out, and then stayed away from the rice on my plate. Saturday I just let myself go, and tried not to think about it. But I did split my meal with my dad. Sunday, during the day I tried to fill myself up with veggies and then enjoyed dinner.

Yesterday I went to the gym, dreading hopping on the scale. In the end....I'm down another pound just over this crazy weekend. I can't believe it.

Thanks for the advice tweetrita!

I'm going to be trying the same thing. I haver read a couple of articles and they suggest doing the zig zag for two weeks and then keep a steady calorie intake. After a few days, if you still want to lose more weight you do it again. I plan on doing two rounds pretty close together and then taking some time off with a regular low cal. plan. I'll definately take your advice on switching up foods. That's my biggest problem (I always get stuck in routines with breakfast and lunch). I started an online program that will switch up the foods for me. I'll let you know how everything goes :)

Hey carolally,

I was in a rut before and i joined a gym that has lots of exercise group programs. The classes are wicked fun and they are different every time so the workout doesn't get boring. Plus I met a bunch of people and I meet up with them at classes. It's great to have friends at the gym because they'll get on you if you stop going.

Hey everyone,

I'm in the same boat. I'm 5'5" and i'm 160. My eventual goal is 130 but I want to lose as much by the 4th as possible because of bikinis and what not. I'm going to try a new diet called zig zagging. It involves changing your calorie intake to trick your metabolism so it's always running on high. I've heard good things about it, but i'm a skeptic so I'll document how I do on here. I'm going to start the diet tomorrow. Also I exercise 5 days a week for atleast an hour.

The diet claims almost 10lbs in two weeks so we will see what happens and I promise to be honest with results and activity. Let's see what happens

Hey amonaco

I have been thinking about zig zagging and i even tried to start it this week...My low days are around 1100 and my high days are 1300...i don't think theat is enough to count as a zig zag though and i'm worried about doing it wrong. I have heard about an online program and i think i'm going to try it. Did you use a program or did you do it on your own? Do you have any suggestions?
