lol... I still have some easter egg left over from this year!! I dunno, I love the taste but never seem to crave it. I'm pretty sure it's something other than self control at work there as leaving half a cookie, well that would be just impossible! |

Plain popcorn, or granola. I usually get about half a cup of granola and eat it bit by bit, this has lasted me the whole way through a film before (and at times I was putting bits in my mouth constantly because it was a scary film :P) |

I like to make chilli (vegetable, cos I'm vegetarian :P) then eat it with rice or tortillas. Alternatively I just take in a pot of houmous and some tasty bread/biscuits/whatever, and some carrot/celery/tomatoes/whatever, and sit at my desk dipping away at lunch time. |

| Recipes | Why dairy in a smoothie? | Jun 23 2008 15:59 (UTC) |

I don't really like smoothies with dairy in, my smoothie recipe = any fruit I can get my hands on, + whatever fruit juice is in the fridge, whack it all in the blender then drink! Basically just experiment until you hit upon something tasty. Some of my favourites are: banana, strawberry + apple juice orange, raspberry + orange juice strawberry, raspberry, blueberry + apple juice

200g cooked chickpeas Whizz it all up in a blender, adjust seasoning until it's how you like it! You can also add things like roasted red peppers, coriander and extra lemon etc for different flavours. |

I know you said no peanut butter, but... have you tried peanut butter balls? I made some over the weekend with peanut butter, raisins, oats, honey, some rice crispies I ground up and chucked in for no reason really... there are plenty of recipes on this site! Mine were about the size of a cherry tomato and around 80 kcal each. Got to warn you though, they are so small and tasty you'll need to have self control to not eat about 5 in one go :P |

I only sleep in on the weekends. On weekdays I am at work and I tend to snack a lot (like, breakfast at 7:15, tea and biscuit 10:15, lunch 12:15, snack 4pm, snack 5:30 when I get home, dinner 7-9pm, snack 9-10pm sometimes). Basically little and often. Maybe if I had a larger breakfast I wouldn't snack mid morning, but I can't really face lots of food that early. My 4pm snack is generally something leftover from lunch, e.g. I'll bring say a portion of curry + rice left over from yesterday's dinner, a piece of fruit, a cereal bar and a yogurt and save the cereal bar or yogurt to eat later in the afternoon. On weekends I get up at 10-11am and tend to have a larger breakfast and a later lunch, or no lunch but an afternoon tea type meal (yes I'm English |

Try doing something else to distract yourself. If you're getting enough food the rest of the time and have a balanced diet, you shouldn't be wanting foods because you need them, so you might be able to stop yourself from wanting to stuff yourself. Alternatively try eating things like fruit/veg, plain popcorn, etc, that are filling but don't have many calories in them, think of it as damage limitation! Sometimes I get in really nibbly moods where I just HAVE to be eating something constantly. I get myself about half a cup of granola and eat it bit by bit - last time I did this that half cup lasted the whole way through a film. Another thing I like is to have a cup of cocoa, for some reason this always makes me feel really full and it satisfies a sweet craving. I make it with 1 tbsp cocoa, 1 tsp sugar, a small bit of hot water and the rest with 1% fat milk so it doesn't really have that many calories in. Perhaps if you try this your body will go, "yay I am eating! yay I am full!" like mine does, and you won't have to go near the other foods you usually stuff yourself on. |

| Vegetarian | Teen Veg*ns: How did you tell your parents? | Jun 19 2008 13:41 (UTC) |

If it was me, I'd make sure you can make some meals for yourself, and be prepared to do it. Your parents might not mind but you could be making a lot of extra work for them if they always cook your dinner and suddenly they have to cook one thing for themselves and one for you. Likewise going to buy food with them/on your own will minimise the effort they have to put in. |
