You could even do a yummy blt..for even less calories...if you use your bread 70 cals bacon 60 cals lowfat hellmanns mayo 15 cals for TBSP... lettuce and tomato are about 15 cals..and so satisfying...you dont feel like your dieting at all!! As far as your plateau sometimes changing things up a bit boosts your weight loss into gear. Try cycling your calories and doing some different workouts..sounds like you have done great so far..keep up the great work!!

I have pepperidge farm whole grain flatbread. 100 cals.2 egg whites , 34 cals 3 pieces of  oscar mayer center cut bacon, 60 cals and only 5 grams fat(very lean& less fat and cals than turkey bacon and tastes so much better!) and a .5 ounce slice of american cheese, 50 cals..tallys up at 244 calories for a delicious sandwhich that takes me all the way to lunch!

Weight Loss Undoing hard work with slacking=very little loss, very little gain. A new yo-yo pattern Jun 30 2009

I put in your stats using cc's burn meter tool..It says light activity which basically is your everyday activities..walking around, laundry , housework or whatever job you have if its not all that physical..it says You burn 2020calories during a typical day. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and your average level of activity. That is the amount you burn every day just with your day to day light activities..now depending on your exercise each day you have to add that in..so lets say a typical workout you burn an additional 500 calories..you would then eat no less than 2020 calories that day to give you a deficit of 500..500x 7 days is 1 pound lost. If you want to aim for 2 pounds a week you need a deficit of 7000 calories per week which would be 1000 a day..I always have my activity level set at light activity and add my workouts in as I do them..it is easier to gauge. So my overall response to you would be if you are not exercising at all then eat no less than 1520 calories a day if you do exercise , depending on your workout of course eat no less than 2020 a day and you should see the weight starting to come off again and you should put an end to your yo-yo ing because you will be eating a satisfactory amount of food..remember to utilize the tools here at cc because as you lose you have to adjust your intake again to accommodate your new weight until you desire to go on maintenance. Best of luck to you..I hope this helped you a bit :0)

First I want to say congrats on taking the step towards weight loss and being here on CC has been great !! It sounds to me like your not eating enough when you are on track..I dont know what kind of exercise you do or how often but 1500-1600 seems very low with exercise..Can you tell us your stats? Is this what CC site is reccommending as intake? You may be gaining because your eating too low and your body is hoarding. On the days your eating upwards of 2500-3500 you say you dont lose or gain..my recommmendation would be to up your intake to somewhere in the middle but I could get more accurate if I knew your stats..maybe 2000- 2500 a day  closer to 2500 when when your exercising and closer to 2000 when you dont. Maybe if you eat somewhere in the middle you would be less likey to yo-yo and start shedding some more pounds. I tend to yo-yo as well and I find it harder when I restrict to low..so eating more balanced seems to help.

Although I agree with the other posts it isnt great to lose weight quickly but if you feel the absolute need..stay close to nature in food choices..lots of fruits veggies and whole grains..lots of water and jogging and or power walking mixed with a little circuit training should get you going pretty quick..and is also good to continue on with these things as well to be overall healthier..afterall isnt that the main objective along with feeling good comes looking good!! Best of luck to you!!

Motivation Got to that perfect weight, and then gained it all back and thensome? Jun 21 2009

Wow..so glad to have stumbled upon this post. I was doing great lost 20 pounds working out with a trainer came to cc everyday logged all my meals and my exercise diligently..I was in 7Th heaven..felt so good about myself in SO many ways! Then it started I was getting tired of weighing my food and counting every little calorie and little by little I let myself slip..I was always a thin person until I had my kids..I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce..so for me to have to watch and count and make this my lifestyle was very hard..I may even resent it a little. I often question thyroid or some other medical underlying issue..I guess maybe just to have something to blame..but all in all it is me. I over eat..I enjoy food and wine too for that matter..I don't want to feel like everything in my life is a chore especially my food and exercise. Well I now have gained back all my 20 pounds lost no additional thank goodness and I am back on track for the most part..slow start but a start none the less. I lost 3 pounds this week which I am sure is mostly water weight. I did go out to dinner with my husband last night and went a little overboard but I'm hoping the rest of my week acted as damage control. I sit here this morning knowing that I will continue back on my journey because I just dislike feeling like a failure. I dislike the way I feel when I go out and my clothes are not fitting correctly and I am self conscious. Those feelings are my motivator. I just need something to keep me going ..that extra push here and there because lets face it..losing weight is a job. It is nice to have people around that help you along and give you support. Thanks to cello for posting this and thanks to everyone at cc for all the support. I cant wait to hear more stories and more tips to get the weight off and keep it off for good!!

I am usually skeptical as well hence the post..I saw it on ebay for about $130.00 I would not spend $300 on it..no offense to anyone who did..I am just a bargain hunter..lol. I used a pilates chair at the gym and I absolutely loved the results I was getting with it..I was just curious as to the quality of this chair and the dvds..is it challenging? I was training for 6 months with a trainer and I would consider myself in pretty good shape and fairly strong..dont want a flimsy thing that will also hang out under my bed ..Thanks so much for all your input.

Well congratulations on taking a step in the right direction towards this site..it has helped me tremendously..I have done the same thing and let me tell you this ..get back on track right away!!!! Go back to the gym and tell yourself that you do not want to go back to your previous weight. Remember how it feels to have people look at you and you feel good about yourself. I go up and down with my weight so much since I have had my kids..I stay on track go to the gym..lose weight vow to never go back to my old ways and somehow I lose sight and start eating poorly again and skipping the workouts here and there ..and start gaining and its like oh its okay its just 5 pounds I can get that off no problem..then oooh its 7 pounds ahh i better slow down next thing you know you are where I am today and that is 16 pounds back from 20 I lost!!!! Please grab the reigns now and get control over yourself...nothing tastes as good as fit feels!!! I have to remember that myself as I remove my foot from my a**. Good luck to you!!

It is soooo nice to know I am not alone in this..I love this website for this. You can talk to your friends or your significant other but nobody gets it unless you go through it! Yesterday was a good day ended at 1020 calories for the day ..I know thats low(did not work out) and the damage I did over the weekend I could use a low day like that. I am going to the gym this morning for a group session..my gym stinks in the way of classes but I am going to find something because I do need to be with people and be made accountable or I just dont go..if I only have to answer to myself its not that bad. I love food and wine and I had it under control just like xxtccxx said I had no problems keeping my calories in check and not feeling ravonis but since I stopped counting I am just hungry all the time..strange how that works. I guess somewhere in your mind you let it happen??

I can stay on track all day and when I get stressed I binge eat..most of my calories I consume are at night..then I feel bad when I wake up and it becomes a vicious cycle. I have not been as diligent at the gym..I was going 5-6 days a week and had the support of a personal trainer..as I can longer afford to have a trainer..I lack the motivation to do it on my own..so most days I push it off til later but later never comes. I know in my mind that I need to control my eating and exercising but I just for some reason cannot keep it on an even keel....

Maintaining How often do you allow treats? Mar 03 2009

Hi first things first welcome to the site I am sure you will find it to be very helpful in so many ways like all of us do! As far as "treats" I allow myself one whenever I want..within reason of course. I add it into my calorie count..but like some others here I watch more closely during the week and allow a little more wiggle room for the weekends. I too am a chocoholic...so I find having some hershey kisses or m&ms around help..I measure them out into appropriate portion sizes in snack bags so when I want it..I know I wont go overboard if it is already premeasured. I also find so many of the fiber and cereal bars to be helpful...south beach has some new fiber bars that are just delicious..and special k has the bliss bars which are fruit and chocolate..very satisfying. Light ice cream..is also good if you measure it out. Baked chips or 100 calorie packs are great too.The key is moderation and you will be fine...and if you have to have that slice of pizza or burger ...be accountable..thats what matters!! Enjoy and good luck on your weight loss goal!!

Thanks everyone for your recommendations..I had one of the chicken potstickers..100 cals...dragonfire chicken(old standby) 500 and a glass of chardonnay..145=745 so although it was a high calorie count for dinner I managed to keep it under 800 which is what I had reserved..lets just hope the calorie estimates arent too far off!! Thanks again..and alos duke2143..coupon was so helpful!!!Thanks!!!

Thank you...yes I went to the website. I am thinking if the bruscetta chicken is still on the menu I may go for that for 500 cals..I always get the dragonfire chicken..I guess if all else fails I will go for the old standby. I hate that they dont give their nutritional info..even a round about estimate would be fine..I have seen that some of the burgers at those places are about 1500 cals by themselves..geesh thats bad ..who knows what else is hiding in their dishes. I also read somewhere that when you get beef or chicken at a restaurant they glaze it with BUTTER right before it comes out...that can add some mega calories!!

Thank you for all your replies..I have been on the diet rollar coaster ever since my first son was born 12 years ago! I cannot seem to keep my weight under control..I know some people will hate me for saying this but I never had to diet or exercise until I had children...now I look at chocolate and my thighs grow larger. I just wish there was an easier way..I plan out my meals at the beginning of each day but farther ahead than that would be difficult since I have three kids and the day seems to change as it goes on depending on thier activities. Once I get on a routine I tend to stick to it..I guess all in all it is about moderating what I eat and trying my best not to go overboard!

Thank you all for your replies...I replaced the batteries and weighed in again..and low and behold the problem was resolved and it showed the 6 pound gain..ugghh..I also did as another poster said and tested with free weights..I was hoping it was wrong. I also use measurements to gauge myself and I have also gained inches ..checked that yesterday. I have been slacking on my workouts and my cc-ing. I know if I get back to logging my meals I will get back on track ..it just becomes so obsessive that I need to take a break and enjoy life..but not 6 pounds worth...lol. My weekends are the hardest..all those football parties..I will be bringing those veggie platters with me this week and only one bottle of wine :0). I am also donating my childrens halloween candy..that isn't helping at all!! Thanks again everyone..I am still welcoming any ideas to get motivated..

Hi all, First thing I want to say is congrats to everyone here on their weight loss!! To the OP..2lbs is 2lbs...great job!! I myself starting my weight loss journey in April and ate somewhere around average 1500 cals a day..SW was 131 and now I am at 112..would like to get to 110 since I am 5'4 and small framed but I am plenty happy right now with 20 lbs gone!! YAY!! So what did I eat? I DID NOT RESTRICT!! I am a firm beleiver in moderation..I wanted pizza I had pizza..just if I knew ahead I was going to have it I ate lighter the rest of the day..if it was a spur of the moment I ate lighter the next day..I had no SET calorie intake per day it was more like a range..I use the analysis tool on cc quite a bit to average out my week..but a typical day averages at 1500 in the beginning and now lately I am struggling to keep it under 1800 to maintain. I did not stop eating at any peticular times of the day..in fact always had a late night snack and I also drank wine a few times a week with my dinner...like I said before everything in moderation..Losing weight doesn't have to be a complete lilfestyle change..if you like mcdonalds fries and chocolate..have them just work them into your cc for the day. One thing I will say is strength train...muscle burns more calories overall. Start slow and work your way up. I work out 5 days a week..3 days weights 2 days cardio...sometimes adding in some cardio on my weight days if I went a little overboard on my eating the day before to compensate. It worked for me and it can work for you..stay focused and stay within your range and you will lose! Best of luck to you!!

Weight Loss Success brings sabotage for me. Sep 30 2008

Hi all..I have to say that I too have struggled with this issue and still do to some degree..I have finally battled it through to lose 20 pounds with the help of a personal trainer..but I am sabotaging all my hard work right now by binging and just telling myself tomorrow is another day and I so far have managed to maintain my weight loss for about a month now without it going back up drastically. I think what it comes down to is somewhere in your head you are comfortable with the way you look at least enough to let the reigns go..with the mentality that you can do it tomorrow..I think the best way to handle it is to decide ..Am I comfortable with my weight as it is ..or should I really lose the weight once and for all?  I think once you commit to it you will lose it completely..but you have to fully commit. I don't know if this was much help to you..maybe take a picture of yourself and compare it to what you could look like..maybe that would help. Best of luck to you!

Hey Leiela, I just took a look at your photos and I think you look great!! I do actually see a dif in the pics from 114 to 118 and tbh I think you look better in the 118 shots..I have chatted with you before and we have had some similar issues..I have been on my own without a trainer for a while now and I am totally losing it...so my advice to you is ..you know the drill..stick with it and you will surely be looking fab by x-mas!! Hey I think you look great now....and you know that you will not let yourself go at this point after all your hard work..right??

*You have also inspired me to take some new photos of myself..I was updating them as I went along but have not taken any new in a while..I have gone from 131 to 112...my goal now is 110 but more over a toned buff body! Good Luck to you and feel free to drop me a message any time you need a kick!

It is so nice to know I am not alone....I know exactly what I am doing because it has been a vicious cycle for me too..the past 6 years I have battled with my weight. I was fortunate enough when I was younger to not have to watch what I ate and now in my mid thirties and three kids later that is just not the case. I did well today..went to the gym and ate well...tomorrow I will try to keep it up..I feel good today and I will carry that with me into tomorrow..one day at a time..right??

Hi Pam, Welcome to the sight and congrats on getting healthier. I am 36 mom of three boys 12,  8, 6 and my husband and my kids too want to eat out all the time! I have to say that I myself up my calories on weekends and allow for it by restricting my weekdays a bit more to compensate. Chinese food is almost a weekly occurance in my house so I eat it..I do get mine made special and most chinese food places should accomodate you. Try chicken and broccoli..no oil..no corn starch..or just get it steamed and put a little soy souce on yourself...cuts calories waaay down. Wonton soup isnt too bad either two wontons in about 1/2 cup broth is about 150 cals..I will eat the pizza too but I have salad for lunch and maybe an egg white omelet for breakfast..I am a true believer in everything in moderation. I also have steak every week with a nice glass of red wine and some potatoes...eating this foods and eating them in moderation I have lost 16 pounds since April..so it can be done..enjoy life and make your food choices something you can live with or you wont stick to it long. Feel free to add me and a buddy..it is great to have people you know are there to help

I am with you all here..what makes it worse for me is when I don't exercise I eat worse also..and more! I become more and more lazy and then I feel like crap... I know that this is going to sound absolutely crazy but I actually feel like I can feel the fat growing back on my thighs! I have been in a HUGE slump and I have vowed that tomorrow I am going to the gym no excuses..BTW  yesterday I burned my hand badly on the stove so today's excuse was I can't lift weights to day so I can't go....obviously I could have gone and just ran or done the elliptical but it was easier to wallow in self pity and stay home.Tomorrow is a new day..good luck to everyone!

I feel like I just wrote this post!! I actually did write a similar one in the motivation section. I have been out of control..I decided to go on maintenance last week for a short term to give myself a break , I can't stop eating and I also cannot get myself to the gym or to even workout ..a walk nothing! I ate sicilian pizza today for lunch and just had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner with a glass of wine..I feel like a bloated pig! Tomorrow I am going to the gym and I am eating better..I guess the only advice I can give to you and also myself is just carry this feeling into the next few days to push back to the right track. Good luck to you and to me :0)

Maintaining I just cannot bring myself to maintance?!??! Aug 17 2008
22:32 (UTC)

OKay so I brought myself to maintance this week and it wasnt hard being that I was approaching that time of the month :0)...this is what I took in this week average 1720 cals per day...I burn with light activity 1740 a day. Now I know I still could have bumped it up because I was exercising which adds about 300-500 a day depending this weeks exercise activities added up to 1580..I was lazy this week. Now I got on the scale this morning and I went from 115 up to 117...could this be the gastly water weight from ttotm OR is it actual weight gain??? I should have just stayed the same weight even with a very very slight deficit. I will have to keep you posted..you can bet I am just a BIT FRUSTRATED right now!!!! You can also bet this week I am going to go back to my weight loss intake of 1300 a day :0(

Yup..invest in a scale it will save you alot of guess work. Also there is a tool on CC used to convert grams to ounces or ounces to grams or what have you..It is under the foods tab..then click on unit converter. Also what proud2bme said those are general easy ways to measure out your foods if a scale is not an option. Good luck to you.
