I'm still 172 but my waist is getting smaller, so it's a good sign. I'll post a progress pic a little later. Good job breaking even in Hawaii st_rider! |

Original Post by queenmedia: EDIT: Tried the site out. I'm not a very big fan of these estimators but I put in my age of 23, waist size of 32 and todays weight to get an estimate of around 12%. This could be coincidental, but that's pretty much where I'm at right now. I'd use it more to measure progress than get definite body fat percentages though. If I have time today I'll use my at home caliper test to see how it stacks up.
Sure thing! I'll get back to you later in the day. Start Weight: 196.5 Today's Weight: 172.5 Goal Weight: 168 |

Original Post by erikaams5: Hi erikaams5 and welcome in! You sound like your well versed in bodybuilding in exercise so good luck in your goals! I only want to give you a friendly warning, just in case you don't know, even though I'm not all the well versed about female bodybuilding myself. Maintaining 13%-14% all year round can be very mentally and physically fatiguing. Many fitness models will maintain a slightly higher body fat percentage, maybe 1%-2% more, and diet down when needed. |

Original Post by st_rider: Haha maybe I should of stuck with 300. Your right about going too far. Some of those guys just have a different set of aesthetics. I think anywhere between 10%-12% will be fine by me! Anyways I believe in having concrete goals, so when should our next deadline be? I wanna challenge everyone here to lose 2% body fat every month until we reach our goal. So let's check in September 15th! queenmedia it's definitely possible to gain weight and LOSE body fat! Don't get discouraged! Consider switching to a different progress metric like a favorite pair of jeans or the painfully truthful measuring tape. dimitra Hi and welcome in! Joining a gym sounds like a good idea, but just don't overwork yourself the first couple weeks. Congrats on your current weight loss! |

Original Post by mortalmonkey: Here's what some people look like at different body fat percentages. It really varies, but the bottom line is abs and and a totally flat tummy. I think I've spent more time looking at pictures of others mens stomachs then I really feel comfortable with, BUT I feel motivated to try even harder! I don't want to finish this challenge feeling unhappy. Let's extend this challenge to even after the 15th! |

Another week has flown past guys! I managed to reach 175 on Friday but couldn't diet any more and ate maintenance all weekend to end up back at 178.5 this Monday. I don't know how much weight I'll need to lose to get to a body shape I'll be happy with, but it's a little disheartening to know how much more I may have to lose.

Being on a psmf diet myself I feel the pain. I spoon full of natty peanut butter is enough to help me get back to sleep. |

PSMF can be done without meat, but you'd be hard pressed to do it without dairy. One thing you might want to consider even though your not a fan of protein is that lower calories, increased cardio and insufficient protein is a recipe for muscle loss. Make sure you get enough protein to maintain what you have! |

I really hesitate to mention this, but a protein sparing modified fast or psmf could do just what your asking for, but it's not for beginners. There are many takes on this type of diet including Lyle McDonald's book or the velocity diet to name just two. If your interested I suggest researching it thoroughly before beginning. If you weigh 117 now getting below 115 in two weeks is no problem on this diet, but it is harsh. Realistically gaining any real tone or muscle in two weeks with a deficit is unlikely, but if you were to drop a couple percent of body fat you could show what you do have right now more effectively. |

Hit my first real stumbling block this week. I hit maintenance, but I wasn't really trying to hit maintenance, I just couldn't stay on the diet. Less than 5 pounds to go, but I was having a hard time staying motivated until I looked at some old fitness journals I wrote. I can't believe how long I've been trying to lose weight, 5 YEARS IN THE MAKING. This time I'm going all the way and I'm doing it for the fat kid who believed he kid do anything and didn't let anyone say otherwise.
Start weight: 196.5 Current weight: 183.5 at maintenance Goal weight: Sub 180 at maintenance |

| Fitness | Inconsiderate people at the gym | Jul 14 2008 22:02 (UTC) |

The general rule at the gym I go to is use the machine until your done your sets. This can take a while, but the person was there first and as long as they're only using that one machine I have no problem with that. If anybody really wants to use is right away they usually ask to work in, but asking how many sets they have left will guarantee you get the equipment after them. I believe the "circuit" people are far more annoying. They can monopolize several machines and due to the nature of circuit training they can do this for an hour! |

Goal Weight: 180 Interesting jump eh? I binged somewhat on the weekend, somewhere along 5000+ calories each day, but when you consider I burn a little under 4000 a day the result should be trivial, a pound gained at most. The interesting thing was how insatiable my appetite was when I do not take any protein shakes. I'm also hoping this binge will spur me slowing weight loss. This did get me to thinking however, the trend line might be my best friend. On Friday I weighed in at 182.5 but the trend line said 188. This is my weight on a calorie restricted diet where I'm undoubtedly carrying less water and undigested food in me than if I was at maintenance. So the goal may be to reach 175 on a diet and bounce back to 180 at maintenance due the extra water/food I'll consume and retain regularly. I'll be watching the trend line much more closely these coming weeks. Also, if anyone has any ideas about calorie cycling be sure to share! I'm thinking two days a week at maintenance as I'm certain my weight loss is slowing. |

| Weight Loss | if i'm lactose intolerant and i eat dairy do i absorb the calories? | Jul 14 2008 21:37 (UTC) |
8 |
If your lactose allergic and not intolerant I believe the bacteria in your intestines can be built up to break down the lactose. The mechanism involves lactase, I think, which your body can use to absorb lactose. So you will absorb some calories, I'm just not sure as to what percentage. I think the same bacteria is present in those who are lactose intolerant, which is a much more rare condition, but the symptoms are so severe it's not really worth building them up. |

I believe meeting your daily recommended dosage of potassium will help your body keep it's electrolyte balance and you'll urinate more of the sodium out. |

| Weight Loss | Proteine shakes... helps to lose weight? | Jul 10 2008 17:16 (UTC) |

Like many of the posters above has stated, protein powder does not have to be high in calories. If you buy a protein isolate you can usually get something around 35 grams of protein for a measily 150 calories! |

| Weight Loss | I'm totally confused, am I fat? | Jul 10 2008 04:58 (UTC) |

BMI is fairly useless, perhaps you should check your bodyfat percentage. Unless it's around 12% or lower you're bound to have some gut. |
