Have you been cleaning your washer every few months with the recommended cleaning discs?  You can buy them at department and grocery stores.

I know how frustrated you are!  I too stopped eating certain foods (carbs, refined sugars...) and it didn't really help.  The only thing that really helps is counting every calorie that goes into your mouth.  It doesn't matter what kind of calorie it is, of course healthier is better but to lose, calories are the most important.  I always planned what i was going to eat for the whole day every morning.  If I knew I would be working late, i incorporated fast food into my calories.  You can do it!  Enjoy your carbs, it's just another type of calorie and restricting foods you like is only going to increase your risk of failure.  It took me years to figure this out, hope it helps!!

We spend so much of our youth looking for "the one" that we sometimes overlook great mates because they didn't meet everything on our checklist.  I don't think you are ever too young to settle down.  Sometimes we meet the right guy early sometimes it takes us a little longer.  Just remember, there isn't one guy out there that is "the one".  There is a guy out there that is a great life mate though! Don't sell yourself short but don't expect perfection either.

Weight Loss When to stop losing weight, even though you haven't reached the ideal number.. Jul 23 2009

Hey guys~! I'm a new member posting for the first time!

I've been wondering..

Was there ever a point for anyone where friends and/or family have told you that you look great the way you are, even though you haven't exactly reached that ideal number on the scale? If so.. did you ever want to still lose weight regardless of what they said, or did you listen to your peers and began to maintain whatever weight you had?

As for myself.. I've been dieting for a little more than a year now. I was 5'5 and was about 180 pounds according to my scale at home. Now, I'm currently 5'5.5 and 120 pounds. However, my aim from the start was to get down to 115 pounds.. although people have been telling me to stop losing weight because they assume that there is nothing left to lose and that I'm fine the way I am.

I understand that it is only a five pound difference.. but I desperately want to reach that number, being the perfectionist that I am. Should I go through with that or do people have a good reason in telling me to stop?

Basically, are the opinions of others a good indication of knowing when to stop losing weight or is that something you should decide for yourself based on how you feel about your own body?

Thanks for your help~!

Congrats!  Going from 180 to 120 is a dramatic change and I am sure your friends and family are just concerned you might go overboard.  Is everybody telling you to stop or just a few people?  Ask somebody you trust and go 1 lb at a time.  Take a picture of yourself, it's really hard to tell what you look like by looking in the mirror.  I for one know I couldn't maintain a weight of 115 and 120 is more realistic for me but everybody's body is different.  I am in no way skinny, my husband would tell me if he thought i was.

Wow, I have a totally different point of view than most of you.  Whenever I visit any close friend or relative, I immediately start helping out.  If I see a full dishrack, I start putting away, or I'll fold laundy or whatever.  (I'm talking siblings, best friends, close cousins, and especially my mom's house.)  I'm comfortable doing that, and my siblings, best friends and  my mom all return the favour.

If I was home alone while a sibling I was visiting was at work, he or she would certainly come home to a clean kitchen, and I would have offered to make dinner and had a discussion about what was in the freezer, etc...  Also, when I leave, I strip the bed, put the sheets in the washer, and remake the bed with another set of sheets.

I wouldn't do this with non-family visits, nor would I expect it from non-family visitors.  But I would be surprised if my mom or my sister or brother didn't help out while they visited.  Actually, come to think of it, my little brother just left after staying at my place for 5 days, and he vacuumed my house! Nice!

Thanks Flybee, that's the way my sister and I are too.  I guess we are the minority though.

She has always been a stay at home mom, so it isn't a matter of her vacation.

Why does her being a stay at home mom mean that visiting you isn't a vacation?

Exactly what I was gonna say.  She is on VACATION. I vote for yes, you are being a spoiled brat.

If anything, I think your mom should be annoyed that the house wasn't clean when she got there.

Wait, how long does she visit for?  If it is an extended period, I could see wanting her to clean up after herself at the least...Kind of like having a roommate.  Still wouldn't expect her to clean the whole house or to start dinner.

Of course the house was clean when she got there, and i bought all of her favorite food and i cook her fabulous meals on the weekends.  I guess I just wanted somebody to be MY mom for a couple of weeks.

Did she volunteer to come help out, or to keep you company while your husband was away? She might have had a completely different two weeks in mind than what you expected.

Also, is your dad still around? Does she still take care of him? Not wanting to assume anything, but this might have been her attempt at a vacation from him, or to do some bonding with you, and didn't plan on it being a chore-filled trip.

She volunteered.  But maybe you are right, maybe she thought she would just keep me company.  By the look of all of the responses, I would guess that her idea is the same as most peoples, and that she shouldn't have to help out.

She and my dad haven't been together since I left home.

Do you ask your other guests to pitch in? Start the laundry, do the cooking, stuff like that?

Your mom raised you for however many years and now she's stopping by for a visit. Why should she need to help around the house? She did all that for you.

I should have clarified that my mom volunteered to come to help out while my husband is away for 15 days.   But anyways I guess you all answered my question.  I will be smarter next time and ensure that I don't have a houseguest in addition to two children under 5.  My bad, I guess I'm just tired and wanted a break.  Thanks for taking the time to set me straight.

but she just stays in the house and reads all day.  She has always been a stay at home mom, so it isn't a matter of her vacation.

for some reason, this part just irks me.

do you actually believe that as a stay at home mom, she just sat around and read all day while raising you?

What I meant by that is that she is a retired stay at home mom.  She hasn't had to look after anybody for 20 years.

I am 5'5" and 122 lbs and maintain on 1700-1800 with only a pound or two fluctuation either way.  I workout 4X a week for 45 - 60 mins (running and weight lifting).  I have lots of energy and have never felt better!  I was nervous about upping my calories too, just do it slowly and you'll be fine.

The exact same thing happened to me.  I was 4 pounds away from my goal and not budging.  I decided to just stay at that weight and maintain.  I ate maintenance calories for a couple of weeks and then lowered my calories again to 1200 and lost 3 pounds in 7 days.  Maybe you should just take a break for a while?

Health & Support I think I have IBS - what do I do? Apr 01 2009

I used live with three doctors and they explained to me that my IBS diagnosis meant that the doctors weren't clear on what was actually causing my problem.  They explained that IBS is usually a diagnosis you get AFTER the doctor has done tests and ruled out that something serious is wrong.  Don't self-diagnose yourself, there are an array of things that cause your symptoms that could be life threatening if not caught in time.  I fortunately had IBS (after many many tests) .  Once you are diagnosed with IBS, you will have to track everything you eat (which you are probably already doing since you are her eon CC), and a brief summary of your day (stressful, early morning, late night...).  You will then be able to determine what your triggers are and work with it.    If you look after yourself and pay attention to what your body doesn't like you will eventually heal your bowel.  I can eat practically anything now, although I still have the fear of a flare up.

Circuit training is great if you are self-disciplined and really push yourself.  Are you at Curves + or just Curves?  If you are at Curves be careful not to over estimate how many calories you are burning.  Check your heart rate often to make sure you are getting a good workout.
