Weight Loss Are any of you 5'4-5'6 and plateauing at ~130 pounds?? :D Apr 19 2009

If it's still open, I'd like to join. :)

I'm 5'5", currently 135, and haven't been under 130 for more than a day or two since I was in HS. My goal weight is 125.

I started losing weight last June(ish) and have lost almost 30 pounds, very very slowly, and only have ten more to go. Right now I am at the weight I have been for most of my teen/college years, with the exception of course of last year. Because of that, I've gotten comfortable here because all of my clothes fit again and so I've stalled for the past month or so. I should probably just lose the next ten just so I can get on with my life! :P

Everyone's bodies are different but I lost all of my weight on the top first because I'm pear shaped. I started noticing my legs, hips, etc. getting smaller after 10-15 pounds.

Weight Loss Eating WHATEVER You Want? Mar 18 2009

I don't follow any real workout regimen and basically stay active if possible (walking when I go places, etc.) and eat whatever I want. I have lost 25 pounds. I work at an ice cream place in the mornings and usually have some for breakfast. I wish that I ate healthier but it's not always an option and I don't have the money to buy really good stuff. So yeah, as long as I keep it around 1500 calories/day I lose weight. If you're gonna be working out you can probably eat a lot more!

That's really up to you. Do whatever makes you happy. I know I gained 30 pounds during a CC hiatus a couple of years ago and when I came back I just made a new account because I didn't want my old weights staring at me and discouraging me. :P

I can not read that book without crying and I have two girls.

We have had the same copy of the book since 1988.  It is well read.

My mom is exactly the same way. We ended up buying a new one because the old one had gotten so "well read" it was hard to read it anymore. :)

My elementary school always had weird stuff going on. I found hair in several pieces of meatloaf one day (I kept getting new ones). One time someone found rocks in her salad, and another found a spiderweb or something in her food. Kinda nasty.

I understand wanting to wait to start working out. I have done the same thing. I probably would have lost the weight faster if I had exercized the whole time but I have lost 25 pounds dieting and am gonna start working out now. Anyway, I lost my weight eating around 1500 calories a day for a long time. I weigh more than you do but my stats are sort of similar since I am taller (I'm 5'5" and 137) and eating around 1400-1500 has never really hurt my weight loss.

If you are looking for things to eat tonight, chicken is fairly low-calorie, as are vegetables and soup. Campbell's soup has a lot of sodium in it but I like it because a can of chicken noodle has 156 calories.

You also have to take into account other stuff like how long she's been wearing those pants. I was wearing 6's at 160 pounds but had owned those jeans for years and years and I think they stretched as I gained weight. I used to throw fits because I would go into a store and grab a pair of 6s but then they'd be too small. Now I can actually buy 6s again and I'm 140. I am pretty sure that no one loses 20 pounds and still wears the same size. :) So it really could have been any number of things that made her able to wear a 4 at 160....although that sounds kinda sketchy.

I think that drinking nothing but water definitely makes weight loss go a little faster. I'm happier having my soda too and letting the weight go a little bit slower. I have still lost over 20 pounds.

I stopped having regular periods when I was 18. I went to the doctor and she told me I didn't have anything wrong with me and just put me on birth control. I am still not convinced that everything is "normal" because if I don't keep taking the bc I quit having periods again and when I get back on it I'll have two in one month. So as long as I take it I'm good.

LOL, I do the same sorts of things. I haaaate going outside to go to the gym because it's so cold out and I also really hate having to shower and get ready again when I get home. Now I mostly just work out in the evenings so once I get back home I don't have to leave again (meaning I don't have to look cute or get cold again). But as far as pushing myself, it's such a good feeling when I get done! Plus I can log my elliptical workout as "vigorous" instead of "moderate." Heck yeah! I'm really bad about singing along to songs I like when I am in the gym...I have to make sure I'm not actually singing out loud, but it probably looks like I'm whispering to myself...because I am! :P

Health & Support Is there ever such a thing as to much water? Jan 06 2009

People used to tell me I was drinking too much when I'd have around 3 liters a day but it was what I felt I needed and I think my body would know better. The lady on the radio show did something insane like a couple gallons in an hour, which isn't usually a problem for most normal, intelligent people. So drink the water.

Weight Loss Can my medicine make me gain weight? Jan 06 2009

I honeslty don't know anything about Accutane, but I started on Prozac and BC at the same time and gained 30 pounds. My doctor told me that while medicine will not make you gain weight because weight gain is calories in vs calories out, meds can make you hungrier. I would not be surprised if there is something more to it (like water retention or something), but I definitely agree that something happened that I ate a lot. My weight gain was also mostly in my middle, which is odd because I have never had midsection problems and have always had a flat stomach. I guess you can only gain so much before the weight ends up there too though. I quit my Prozac in May because I didn't need it anymore and have lost 20 pounds (dieting of course, but that was next to impossible before). So you tell me. :)

You should probably ask your doctor. And keep a strict log of what you eat. If you notice yourself getting hungry, eat something low calorie but filling, but keep it tracked too.

Weight Loss Weight watchers or CC? Jan 06 2009

The idea of using the WW money to buy yourself something is a really good one. Maybe you could put the money aside each month (or week, I don't know exactly) and set mini-goals for yourself and when you reach those goals you can have XX amount of money to do something fun!

Anyway, the only problem my friends that have done WW ever had after quitting was that they didn't have that support they got from the meetings. I think you will find that pretty easily here. Over the summer I was a big fan of the message boards because they are constant reminders that there are a lot of people doing this together. Or you could join a challenge and that will be a great way to get the same kind of meeting as you did with WW (and still free!).

I think that CC is a much better choice than WW because of the money, but also because of the support you get and all the free tools and ways to determine what the best weight is for you. I'm sure I am biased towards CC because it's the only thing I've ever had to do for any serious weight loss (like over 10 pounds), but it has also worked great for me.

Interested in where everyone stands and where there goal is.

1.) Age? 20

2.) Height? 5'5"

3.) Weight? 145

4.) Goal Weight? 130, maybe 125

5.) What is Your daily/weekly exercise? none, other than I work with a verrry active 50-pound child, and have to chase and lift him frequently

6.) About How many calories do you eat a day? it depends. usually around 1300 but sometimes 1200 and sometimes 2000.

7.) What is the most you've lost in a single week? 3 or 4 pounds (when I first started losing- water weight)

8.) How much have you lost since you started losing? 17.5 pounds

9.) If you have any VERY useful tips on losing weight... not really I honestly eat whatever I want, even ice cream, but I measure it with a cup (ask me how my roommates reacted to that, haha) and make sure I take it into account and keep my weekly average around 1300/day....AND not stressing out about it because once I started calming down the weight came off faster.

Weight Loss "curvy" fit jeans - a form of vanity sizing? Dec 21 2008

Original Post by iitu82:

These jeans sound good... Do they also accommodate for heavier thighs? I have a small waist and bigger hips, thighs and calves.

(Biggest surprise when I lost weight was that my overall body shape didn't change and I still don't have lovely slender legs... My thighs are a lot more muscular now though so it's not all that bad.)

Don't think these are available in the UK yet either?

I don't know what all is available in the UK but if you guys get Silver jeans at all, try the Suki fit. Amazing for small waist with thick thighs and butt!

Health & Support How do you wean off of anti depressants? Dec 13 2008

You should definitely talk to a doctor. I was on Prozac and had similar symptoms when I just quit taking them altogether. After talking to my doctor she said that it was okay that I had quit taking them but not advisable to quit taking any medication without asking a doctor first. So if you are ready to quit taking antidepressants then you should make an appointment with your GP first.

I don't eat chicken wings, ribs, spaghetti or watermelon because they're all too messy.

I don't eat ribs or watermelon because they're both too nasty.

Wait...so I'm supposed to be eating no less than 1500 calories a day? Hmm...definitely was not aware of that. Am I really still growing? Because, um, that'd be awesome (as long as it's up and not out). I'm 20 (in like 2 days) and eating around 1300 every day. So is that bad?

If it makes you feel any better, I kind of know where you're coming from. My freshman year of college my best friend and I started out weighing the same, and I was petrified of gaining weight so I ate healthily and ran several miles every night. She just quit eating almost altogether (a banana and yogurt for dinner, a muffin for lunch, and that's about it). I lost about two pounds (until, of course, I gave up and starting eating whatever I wanted, but that's another story), and she has probably lost 15. Unfortunately she's incredibly unhealthy but we never see each other or talk anymore so it's not really my place to say anything.

I agree with charlie_r though, it will be hard for her to keep that up over the years. Just focus on YOU and what YOU need. Keep it up!
