| Foods | Anyone hear of Himalayan salt? | Aug 17 2009 08:23 (UTC) |

Well a year ago I bought Himalayan pink salt at giant eagle and thought it looked cool so I bought it. It's very flavorful and you don't have to use as much of it to season your food compared to table salt. I really like it so give it a try if you want to. Don't know anything about the nutritional benefits though. |

Hold on. You run 55 miles a week? The last thing you need to be worried about is eating too much. You're probably not eating enough and killing your insides. How much do you eat a day? |

Yeah, the truth is, is that it's really hard for me to follow this. Especially since I'm going to college now. I definitely cheated all day and now I'm thinking that this is too hard. I guess it might be better for me to gradually ease into it. But you know, life is too short and I love food so I don't know what to do. It does have benefits though and I do feel better when I do this. |

| Weight Loss | Going down a size without losing weight? | Aug 21 2008 23:45 (UTC) |

Exercising is the answer. You want to lose inches, not pounds. It will help you tone your stomach, butt and thighs. Weight really has nothing to do with how you look (unless it's extreme). I know a lot of people who are at a healthy/underweight but are "skinny fat". |

Well in response to your first statement, I have recently found out that I have a soy allergy, so there's a good reason why I cut that out of my diet. lol. And it is true that food allergies are rare (celiac disease only affects 1% of the US population) but I personally feel much better when I stick to this diet. I really only cheat when I fall below 3,000 calories. I make sure that I get in all of my daily nutritional needs and I have a lot more energy throughout the day now then I ever have. So yes you are right that this can be relaxed a little bit and there are a lot more foods that can be consumed. Although I don't necessarily agree with you on some of those examples you gave on those extreme diets where people were missing vital nutritional needs and still living long healthy lives. |

Intelligent and goal driven girls are a big turn on for me. Not a know-it-all type, but a girl who has a good head on her shoulders. I've just realized that every girl I've gone out with shares this same trait. One is planning on becoming a biomedical engineer, the other wants to become a doctor, etc... Oh, and I know this sounds shallow, but I can't lie and say that looks don't matter. They account for something, but I mean she doesn't have to look like a model or anything. Although the longer I know a girl, the more attractive she seems to get. (Wasn't I just a little horndog watching Elle Woods win her case in court in Legally Blonde) |

lol fishes. I knew there was something wrong in that sentence. I am trying to do this for health reasons. I started eating like this ever since my sister was diagnosed with celiac disease (which means she can't tolerate gluten which is found in wheat, barley, etc...). After doing some research I found out that a possible reason as to why there are so many people with gluten intolerances and other allergies like soy and lactose is because humans were never intended to consume it. Think about it, even though we enjoy lactose and get benefits from it like calcium, should we be consuming it? It's meant for baby cows, not humans. That's why I think so many people are lactose intolerant. So that's pretty much my reason for doing this crazy diet. lol. But anyway, thank you. I guess I'm holding on to oil and tea and keeping it in my diet. Now if only I could stay committed to this and not cheat all the time. |

| The Lounge | Has Anyone Seen Tropic Thunder? Is it really that bad that groups are protesting it? | Aug 21 2008 06:44 (UTC) |

As 4theloss already said, the movie wasn't trying to make fun of mentally disabled people, but rather, it was making fun of Ben Stiller who did a terrible job of portraying Simple Jack. The movie was great. You're not supposed to take it seriously. If you can't take a joke and start a war just because something isn't "politically incorrect", then don't watch it. No one's making those protesters watch it. "Don't judge me!" (Favorite quote from Jack Black in the movie) |

The answer is no, it's not always accurate. It is just an estimate of how much is in the box. You're usually eating more calories then boxes claim. I wouldn't worry too much about it because it's no use obsessing over every last calorie. Just log what it says on the box. Next time though, stick with Lean Cuisine. |

I just went to a hibachi grill for my birthday. The one I go to cooks the food with tons of butter and soy sauce, not oil. Although I guess that doesn't make it any better. You could ask the chef to not put it on, but it tastes so good. Just let yourself relax for one night and enjoy. |

| Weight Loss | 800 cals/day.... and... not hungry?? WHATS GOING ON? | Aug 08 2008 08:02 (UTC) |
15 |
Original Post by vandijb: Okay, let me try and explain why you're screwing up your body. Your vital organs (heart, lungs, brain, etc...) need at least 1200 calories a day in order to get enough nutrition. Most people need more, but that's the bare minimum. Any less, and the organs get nutrition by basically eating themselves. Also, you're metabolism starts slowing down because with such a low intake, your body thinks it's starving. So you might lose weight, but you're hurting yourself in the process. To make things worse, once you start eating a normal diet with your recommended calories, you will gain weight because your body has adapted to a lower intake. There are many people on this website who have gone through this, and it isn't something that you want to do. You can NOT live on that kind of a diet, even if your body is telling you that you are full. Oh, and always make sure to count everything that you eat. Regardless if it's fruit or vegetables. But make sure that you reach at least 1200 calories a day. |

| Weight Loss | 800 cals/day.... and... not hungry?? WHATS GOING ON? | Aug 07 2008 10:39 (UTC) |
26 |
Well you're definitely going to screw up your body if you only eat 800 calories a day. You might want to rethink the low intake and figure out a way to up your calories because not only are you not hurting your body, but you're slowing down your metabolism. Not feeling hungry is a sign that you're metabolism is slowing down, and you don't want that. It's only going to bite you back in the butt when you try and eat normal again. So start eating more even if you don't feel like it. 800 calories is not enough. |

| The Lounge | Are All Women Sexist? | Aug 03 2008 08:31 (UTC) |

I'm not a girl, but I don't think that most women are sexist. I'm sure even the most extreme sexist knows at least one man that she doesn't hate. Regardless of whether someone is male or female, everyone is there own unique person. Not every guy is a shallow pig. It's like me assuming that every women wants to be a stay-at-home mom who cleans and cooks all day. Sure there are some women who fit that stereotype, but I know a lot more who don't. |

| Weight Loss | Fast Metabolism | Jul 31 2008 08:26 (UTC) |
7 |
Well I actually am one of those people who have a ridiculously fast metabolism, and I can honestly say that I don't like it. I burn 3,000 calories in a day doing absolutely nothing. Add in daily activity and then I have some problems. Now maybe for a girl it would be all right, but as a guy I don't like being thin and scrawny. To be 6 foot and weigh 133 pounds even though I stuff my face all day isn't fun. I'm always hungry, and I'm tired of constantly feeling dependent on food. And as someone already mentioned, it's expensive to have a fast metabolism. I know my mom can't wait until I go back to college because I eat a month's worth of groceries in a couple of a days. But I understand why having a slower metabolism can be worse. My sister has celiac disease and as a result as an underactive thyroid. She gets very upset because even though she gains weight easy even though she eats a normal healthy diet. So I would say that the ideal metabolism is the one that is not too fast or slow. |

| Health & Support | bingeing on fruit | Jul 09 2008 01:23 (UTC) |
6 |
It depends on the type of fruit that you're eating. Binging on vegetables and fruit are definitely better than binging on junk food, but if you're consuming more calories than you need, you may eventually gain weight. Some fruits that you can consume that are low in calories are: strawberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, and grapes. There are probably more but I can't think of any right now. Just watch out because fruit is high in sugar. |

My sister has just been diagnosed with celiac disease (and now I have to get tested too since I show some symptoms So stick to Act II (except the extreme butter version) and Orville Redenbacher's popcorn. If you check their website they state that there is no trace of gluten in their products and no chance of cross-contamination. |

| Health & Support | Why is my body rejecting food?! | Jul 02 2008 02:52 (UTC) |

Well if you're eating only 1,000 calories a day, you're metabolism is definitely slowing down making you feel more nauseous when you eat. That's why you feel full even though you haven't eaten enough. Doing this will only bite you in the butt later when you try to maintain. Oh and I don't know why your food is smelling bad. |
