Original Post by lynners:

I seriously day dream about stuffing my face with 5 cheeseburgers. Thankfully there are no cheeseburgers within reach.

Hahahaha!  Oh, lynners, I'm right there with you.  I dream of Sonic chili-cheese coneys in my SLEEP.  Oh, how I miss their fatty, meaty, cheesy, salty wonderfulness.  Good luck with that 11-hour day.

It sounds like everyone is doing much better than they had anticipated, so congratulations, ladies!

linz, despite the Bamboozlement Factor of scales in general, you're doing great.  And there's nothing like the affirmation of getting comments.  I think sometimes it's easy to get so bogged down in making the next goal that we don't realize, "Hey, I really AM looking thinner!"  Stay strong and positive!

mrsmao, will you come be my personal trainer?  OK, OK, I'll settle for the inspiration you give me on here.  Way to go!

And now for the not-so-pleasant but totally expected weigh-in....

Wrong direction!  I smell a rat!  MUTINY ON BOARD!!!  Oh, wait... I'm the rat.  In dire need of an exercise wheel, obviously.  I must commandeer this body for its well-being!  Ahoy!

Well, excuse the language, but I have managed to make a big ole clusterf*ck of bad decisions.  This past week has been one big downward spiral, and I'm back up 1.4 pounds.  Gah.  I have managed to erase my entire October weight loss.  Oops.

Hope everyone is doing better than I am (melting dryers aside, mrsmao - good lord, that is horrible).  Talk to y'all tomorrow!

Um. Hi. Sooo. I'm a little tipsy. D*mn my boyfriend's gallery openings! Scrumptioius catered food and wine/champagne galore.

hobbes and luvmynova, welcome! From my experience, support is the best medicine when you're fighting this battle, so I'm here for ya! And luvmynova, wow. It's just good to have you with us here on earth, and I wish you the best as you start this journey with us.

linz
, CONGRATULATIONS on your success this week! These depressing weight fluctuation flukes happen to all of us, but it looks like you've got it beat and are headed right in the direction of that "bikini bod". Believe me, I fight with depression and self-esteem every day, and I know how all-consuming that can be, but you are making such great choices in your life, even if the scales don't always show it. And the scales will eventually be forced to listen to your roar for fitness and healthy weight!

Well, Aunt Flo popped into town with no invitation or warning today, so I hope some of my miniscule loss is due to that. Might have helped if I hadn't scarfed down 2 glasses of wine, a glass of champagne, and numerous tasty catered treats tonight, but I am DETERMINED to be back on track tomorrow. Got a fridge full of good-for-me stuff and no junk food in the house, so fingers crossed.

oceangirl, great to hear from you, and a whole pound is a victory! I know it's tough when you don't have control over your dietary options, but way to go with keeping your head in the game. And it sounds like you're really having a unique adventure, so make the most of it while making the best choices you can.

lynners, you have really made leaps and bounds since we started this group. Keep it up! Can you believe you are so very close to 160? You rock!

I believe we can do it. No, I KNOW we can do it. Keep the faith, ladies (or at least learn from my booboos tonight). Props to mrsmao and Nanette, two of our our biggest losers! We gotta keep on keepin on, and I'm going to try to do my part to stay in touch more.

Love and peace,
Becky

Good job so far, ladies!

Last week:  175.0

This week:  174.6

Well, I kept my mini-goal in mind all week and managed to stay focused.  Even with a dinner out this weekend, I averaged 1,576 calories a day for the week.  And I actually saw the 173s two times!  So I'm not too discouraged by the little bitty loss this week.

I am finally coming to terms with the fact that I am going to have break down and (*siiiiiiiiiigh*) exercise.  I have only lost 1.4 pounds this month, and that's really bugging me.  Of course, I sabotaged myself mid-month, but still.  I really really really really REALLY hate exercise.  (Insert a lot of kicking and screaming here.)

I would LOVE to see 170 before the big 5-day, eat-all-you-want family vacation at the end of November.

And now for a mini-rant/whine:  Sometimes I get so ticked off that I let myself get into this shape.  I mean, losing 20 pounds has been so hard, and I have 40+ left to go!  Another 20 to go before I'm even in the "overweight" range!  The boyfriend dragged me to the mall Saturday night because he needed to buy a new pair of shoes, and good lord the mall makes me want to never eat again.  Mannequins that make Callista Flockhart look fat.  Who on earth is buying and fitting into these clothes?  14-year-olds?  And Victoria's Secret... how depressing.  I don't think anyone over a size 4 has a shot of finding anything in Victoria's Secret, and I will never ever be a size 4.  Right now I'd be happy with a regular size 16 that fit my bootie.

I too would like to finish on a happy note, but bah humbug.  Being fat SUCKS.  That's my motivation right now.

mrsmao, you absolutely amaze me.  Surprised  10 pounds a month!  Over 30 pounds total!!!  Pizza schmizza, you're doing something right!  I admire the way you stay totally focused, and there's a lesson for me right there.  I tend to sabotage myself once or twice and downward spiral from there.

Here are my stats:

Jun 13 - SW 195

Jul 23 - 185.2
Jul 30 - 184.8
Aug 6 - 184.6
Aug 13 - 180.6
Aug 20 - 182.6
Aug 27 - 179.6
Sep 3 - 179.4
Sep 10 - 178.4
Sep 17 - 177.8
Sep 24 - 177.0
Oct 1 - 176.8
Oct 8 - 175.8
Oct 15 - 175.2
Oct 22 - 175.0 (Cue the song "I believe in miracles...")

So I lost 10 pounds my first month, and I've been fighting with the next 10 pounds for 3 months.  Grr.  Total loss of 20 since June.

Great idea about the mini challenges, Nanette.  So... my mini-goal is to STAY FOCUSED this week.  If I break down and have a slice of pizza, I'll stop there.  I will not say, "Well, I've already blown it," and then eat the ice cream and drink the two beers on top of it all.  If I have to eat out, then I'll do it wisely and try to work it into my daily intake.  I've got to get my head in the game!  99% of this war is mental.  (And a bit of exercise would not kill me, either.)  I want to see 174 next week, darnit!

Good luck everyone to come.  Let's hang in there, girls!

linz78, we must be on the same trainwreck.  Cry

I apologize to the group for my horribly pessimistic weigh-in post.

Congrats to all who showed a loss last week (woot, woot, mrsmao!), and congrats to EVERYONE who's still here and posting.  Like v_avila said, that's a good sign.

I am sheepishly and defeatedly crawling back to CC after one of the worst food weekends in near history.  Oh, I was bad.  Bad, bad, bad.  I went out to eat FOUR times.  Pizza.  Rich, salty, oily gourmet food.  Big greasy spoon breakfast.  Deli wrap (which wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't added a whole bowl of little pasta salads and a piece of chocolate mousse pie - am I crazy?!).  GAH.  The "event" gods were conspiring against me!  And I was embracing them in a most hedonistic way!

So.  I gained back a pound.  I guess I'm pretty lucky it was just a pound, actually.  It felt like about 10 pounds after all that oil and sodium.  MUST REGAIN CONTROL (and drink lots and lots of water).

lynners, I wish you the best of luck with the license situation.  And student loans are not like high-interest credit card debt (if Canadian student loans are like American ones).  Like mrsmao said, you'll be amazed at how quickly the next 10 years will fly by.

Pretty disappointed considering I saw the 174s three times in the past week.  Guess it will be yet another 2-3 weeks of hem-hawing around a single number.  Joy almighty.  Certainties: The sun will rise, I'll get bills I can barely pay, I'll fight with every mitochondrial spark of my being to not drink half a bottle of Irish whiskey, and I will stay. the. same. f*ck*ng. weight. for. two. f*ck*ng. weeks.

Sorry.  I'm just.... ... way too depressed today to be posting.  Frown

Lynners, you do NOT sound immature and pathetic, and I am here to support you.

I'm 32, and I am an alcoholic.  My boyfriend is the only one who knows.  (Well, you all know now.)  It was really out of control before I started CC.  6-8 beers a night was the norm.  It's probably why I'm in this shape to begin with because I've never had a big addiction to food.  I didn't start putting on weight until I started drinking, around age 20 I guess.  And yes, after some binge drinking, I can scarf down huge amounts of junk food like it's nothing.  I've been doing much better since I started CC and decided to get healthier, but I still have slip-ups.

You're 21, and it's not unusual for your age... to have nights when you go out drinking with friends.  It sounds like you have it under control right now, so I wouldn't beat myself up about it.  Personally, I went from drinking with friends a few nights a week to drinking with friends 4 or 5 nights a week.  Then, having a stressful job, I would buy a 6-pack on the way home and drink alone to unwind and get away from it all.  If you're predisposed to alcoholism, things can go downhill so quickly.  It's a daily battle for me.  I think you'll be fine, but keep this in mind.

Yay!  Finally!!!  I didn't think I'd EVER see the 175s!  I'd kind of been on a plateau of my own evil doing, but I managed to get with the program this week.

My scale needs a battery, so I hope this isn't a fluke.  This weekend, it would give me about 3 different numbers and then read something that looked like "baee", and let me tell you, it is not a good feeling when you think your scale is making digital sheep noises at you hahaha.  (Of course, I finally realized it was saying "batt" for battery.)

jesusgirl, good to hear from you, and I'm sending you lots of good stair vibes!

linz, you said it perfectly when you said "battling".

This is war!  Those "slow" weeks can be almost worse than maintaining, especially when you're working so hard GRRR.  But we've got to keep looking at the big picture.  I had no idea this process would be so agonizingly slow, but we can do it, and the weight will stay OFF.  That's what my boyfriend says when I complain about being bad and shooting up a pound: "Don't worry, baby, you lost the battle, but you'll win the war."  *insert battle roar here!*

OK, it's a teeny tiny loss, but my "trend" line has been stuck in the 177 range for 10 days now.  How annoying, and it's all my fault.

To my willpower:
O willpower, where art thou?  I shall find thee and make thee mine!  In the meantime, please resolutely place yourself in front of the Nutella jar and the boyfriend's very tasty imported ale.

Way to go, ladies, especially mrsmao reaching the 25 lb mark, yay!  Good luck to those to follow, and happy hump day.

What's with this week?  I've not done my best, either.  OK, big understatement.  I've consumed over 2,000 calories all week long and simply cannot seem to get with the program, grr!  By some miracle of nature, I haven't gained, but I'm certainly not expecting a loss.  It's almost TTOM, and I guess I've kind of mentally used that as an excuse to eat or drink anything I want.  Bad thinking!  It's not just about weight loss... I feel so much better when I'm eating healthy!

Sounds like everyone is having a rough time this week with temptations, sickness, stress... yikes!  Halizabeth, my thoughts are with you and your mother.  I need to remember your mantra: "just keep on keeping on!"

Shock and confusion.  I was HORRIBLE this week.  Must have had a loss coming or something, which I didn't manage to entirely erase with all my wicked and wenchy behavior.  I will not, however, let this lack of digital punishment give me permission to be wicked and wenchy in the future.  I. Will. Be. Good. Yo ho.  8 pounds in two months.  Not too shabby.

chantale and mrsmao, your numbers are dropping like crazy, congratulations!!!

linz, that's always a bummer, but I'm sure it's just a temporary thing.  You've been doing great.  I'm sorry to hear you're feeling down.  You know, that might even have something to do with it.  When I get down or stressed out, the scales show it.  Remind your "confidence" of how far you've already come.  Check out page 15... you've lost 3 pounds this month!  I'm sending you lots of positive 160s vibes.

lynners, WAY TO GO on boot-kicking those 170s into submission!

Good luck to those to follow!

STOP THE WAGON!!!

Please?  I need to hop back on.  My habits have been ABYSMAL this week.  Look at this calorie count!...

9/17 - 1415
9/18 - 1730
9/19 - 2089
9/20 - 2323
9/21 - 1745
9/22 - 2207

And no exercise, of course.  GRRR!  OK, I'll admit it.  I have been on an all-out beer binge since Friday.  I'm so embarrassed.  It's been awful.  I wouldn't even dream of telling how many I drank during the day on Saturday.  I probably would have had a healthy 1500 cal intake every day without the beer.  I just went crazy!  At least I avoided fast food, which would have been a staple in the past during/after a beer binge.

Enough whining.  I MUST do better!  Gah, one day at a time.  Mini-goal for today: no beer!  Must go to the grocery store!  I do not have so much as one little baby carrot in the house!  (And I'm out of coffee.  Serious situation.)

And enough about me....

Way to go, v_avila!  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you've broken 160 for good!

holsfisher, that's terrible news about the ulcer and hospital stay.  Sounds like your boyfriend is a good nurse (and chef).  You just take care of that stomach, first and foremost, and do what you need to heal.  It's great to hear from you!

lynners, in my experience (this past bomb of a week aside, of course), going up 100-300 calories a day for even one week can jolt the metabolism in a good way.  I might gain a temporary pound, but then I'll lose 2 or 3.  Changing things up a bit can never hurt, especially if you're finding that you're hungrier than usual.

~~~*sends everyone good vibes for tomorrow*~~~
    A pound!  A whole pound!  *skips like a silly person*  I knew that 178.0 yesterday was too good to be true, but still safely out of the 180s!
    loosingit:  That's some mega commitment and hard work to lose all those inches since March.  Congrats!  The tacos actually were made with lean turkey, but it was his "snack" (grrrr, men), and I'd already eaten my allotment for the day.  And ohhh, cheese.  You are talking my language.  I could sit down and eat half a pound if I let myself (and used to).  But you're right... it's an extra-special treat when you think of it as a seasoning.
    oceangirl:  That excursion sounds way exciting!  I'm sure you'll be burning a lot of what you're eating.  I'm in awe of anyone who even attempts the 5K challenge.  Keep up the good work!
    lynners:  Those "tens" are so *$#&*@ hard to break.   But you can, you can, you can!
    Haha, I'm biting my nails, too!
    I just sat here and watched my dear boyfriend eat 2 homemade tacos and drink one of my most beloved beers.  Cry  But I managed to safely watch from the sidelines, so yay.
    jesusgirl, thank you so much for the pep talk earlier this week.  You're right... We're made the way we are, and the whole point is to get our bodies into the shape they're MEANT to be, not the shape that mall retailers think is cool.  When I finally fit into those petite regular size 16 pants, I'll hem those babies with a cackle of glee!
    Way to go, lynners, on prepping ahead and getting some MUCH needed rest!
    Just had to have a moment of glory here.  *drumroll*  I weighed 178 this morning!!!  I have lost 17 pounds since I began!  *bounces around the room*  Maybe I have broken 180 for good!  (It only took 3 freakin' weeks!)
    That said... lynners, am I reading this correctly?  You worked over 14 hours yesterday?!  I can't imagine trying to log or having to plan meals/snacks with that kind of schedule.  Not to mention the amount of energy your body needs to sustain itself over such a long period, whether you're sitting at a desk or running around a warehouse.  Maybe you can try to fix at least one healthy snack (I LOVE peanut butter & banana sandwiches... they keep all day outside a fridge, fit in a purse, and really fill you up).  And carry a mini-notebook to write down what you eat if you have a moment.  Sometimes just seeing it on paper helps.  I'm sending you lots of good vibes, my friend.  Hang in there!
    halizabeth, I HATE those "scale" moments!  But way to go on getting fitter and losing inches.  Sounds like you're doing great, no matter what your scale is telling you!
    halizabeth and loosingit, YAY for recipes!!!  Thank you for posting these.  Both sound really yummy and great ideas for when I want something quick and nutritious.  I am adding them to my little food notebook!  I seem to have the creativity of a thumbtack when it comes to cooking.
    And jesusgirl, woooohoooo for reaching that milestone!
    To follow suit, here are my current measurements:
    Bust:  41.5" (the boobies, they're shrinking! Cry)
    Underbust:  36"
    Waist:  36"
    Hips:  46"  (that butt ain't goin' nowhere)
    Thigh:  27" (nor are the thighs)
    Calf:  15.5"
    Measurements are cool.  This is about 2 inches of progress all around since I first took measurements in early July.  For some reason, that's even more encouraging than numbers on the scale, yeah?  Man, my hips/butt/thighs are stubborn, though.
    Sooo.  I went to the mall yesterday because I absolutely cannot wear my plus-size 18 dress pants anymore.  I've been putting this trip off in hopes of moving down to a regular 16 petite, but those are still a bit too snug.  I did find a pair of plus-size 14 petites that fit well.  I'm finally into regular sized XL/16 tops, but as I mentioned, the butt has its own zip code.
    I HATE THE MALL!!!  Hate, hate, hate it!  Everytime I go there I am reminded that I will never, ever be able to dress in the fashionable clothes on the mannequins - no matter how thin I get - because I'm so short and... well, not a stick.  I must resign myself to always hemming pants, shirtsleeves, and shirttails, not wearing the cool knee-length cardigan sweaters because they make me look like I'm carrying a small child on my lower back, etc.
    My boyfriend says that this is how the mall "gets you."  It shows you window after window of tiny mannequins wearing clothes that were never meant to fit anyone but models, and then BAM, it hits you with the food court to soften the emotional blow.  He's so right.  After walking around for about an hour getting more and more depressed about my body shape, the smell of Sbarro's fresh-baked pizza wafting into the corridor almost broke me down.  But I prevailed.  Go me.
    Just had to rant a bit.  Embarassed  Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
    Oh heck yeah, I'll take that anyday after the way I ate this past weekend.  Also, it's my TOM, so I'm surprised the scales didn't read a gazillion point trillion this morning.
    ocean_girl and chantale, we are kindred spirits!  I am so bad at sticking with exercise.  I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't exercised in a month.  A whole month!  I'm going to try to work out at least ONCE this week.  We can do it!  Congrat on your loss, chantale.  You're so close!
    triciae, you are a woman of few words ;D, but I just gotta take a moment and congratulate you.  You always come in posting a loss, even if it's just a half a pound.  Way to stay commited!
    linz, keep it up and you'll be smokin' on holiday in July!
    holsfisher, your post had me noding.  One of my biggest hurdles to eating right is staying on top of the grocery situation, finding the energy to cook, preparing ahead.  Gah.  It takes a lot of work to eat healthy.  But my skin has cleared up, too.  I think I especially noticed it in the past few weeks because my pre-TOM breakout was miniscule compared to normal.  All those healthy choices are worth it in more way than one!
    My current mini-goal is to stay OUT of boyfriend's ice cream!  I broke down and had a bowl with a biscotti last night, and it put me at maintenance for the day, urgh.  Must. Stop. With the bedtime snacks. :/
    Motivation Just looking for a little personal support Sep 02 2008
    04:09 (UTC)
    Hi, Manda.  I'm not a binger, but I often see a support group on here...
    Support for Bingers
    You might want to check them out.
    Also, even though I'm not an all-out binger, I totally understand the fear of "getting back on track tomorrow".  I understand the fear of erasing all the hard work I put into my eating habits.  But change can happen!  Just make sure that tomorrow brings some sustainable choices.  If you like sugary foods and pasta, work them into your calorie intake at smaller portions to prevent all-out binging.
    And now for the something supportive:  You CAN beat this.  You are stronger than you may think, and you have it in your own control to make choices that heal instead of hurt. I'd urge you to look at the group - if it's closed, then just taking a look at what others are going through might help.
    I'm sending lots of healthy wishes your way.
    Foods What foods do you enjoy that are high in protein? Sep 02 2008
    Don't underestimate the abundance of protein in dairy!  Plain nonfat yogurt, fat free milk, lowfat or nonfat cottage cheese, reduced fat sour cream as a condiment or in place of mayonnaise....
    Don't know if you eat dairy, but it's made all the difference for me.  It seems like if I try to get both my protein and calcium up together, it's a bit easier to lose.
    I also religiously check labels.  For the low cal "filler" foods I eat (oatmeal bars, the occasional biscotti, etc.), I compare brands and make sure I'm getting a nutritional bang for my buck.  Some carb snacks are pretty high in protein and fiber... you just have to look for them.  Kashi Go Lean cereal is pretty tasty and full of protein.
    Weight Loss ive gained? Sep 02 2008
    Wow, 73 minutes!  That's bound to give your muscles a jolt, and they have to recover, from what I understand, from adding back the glycogen and water.
    Every time I exercise I see a gain.  I don't worry about it because I know I've done something good for myself, it's my muscles adjusting, and it will all balance out.  Don't forget that body measurements are just as good (or better) than scales when it comes to keeping with an exercise routine!
    Foods What the #%&@, Fiber One? Sep 02 2008
    Extra protein!  Tongue out
    Boxes, bags, and cans are staples for us insanely busy people, so we're bound to run across these heart-stopping, gag-inducing moments eventually.  But!  Maybe the 'good' side is this means more Fiber One bars for you?
    You could always look at it like this... at least sticking to healthy snacks and home-prepared meals eliminates a pretty large percentage of the unnameable stuff you'd be getting in Taco Bell food!
    I might go for another box and check the batch numbering, though....
    Good to hear from you, jesusgirl!  Sounds like you've had quite a lifestyle adjustment and those are never easy (especially when lots of studying is involved), but you're hanging in there, good for you!
    And good luck with your second week of law school!
    Weight Loss What's the proper carb / protien / fat ratio? Sep 02 2008
    Hi!  Welcome, and congrats on your loss so far!
    I try to follow the 50-25-25 rule.  50% carbs, 25% protein, 25% healthy fats.  I'm 5'1", and I've gone from 195 to 180 in 11 weeks, slowly but steadily.
    Just a thought... If you're a man, you might want to consider upping your calorie intake a bit (unless you're being monitored by a doctor).  1500 is the lowest 'safety' intake for a man, and it seems kind of low for a 5'11" man with a regular exercise routine, but I'm no expert.  Use this site to check the "burn meter" for your height/weight/activity level and aim for a 500-700 calorie deficit.  (For example, if you burn an estimated 2500 calories a day, you'd want to eat at least 1800.)  You want to make sure you're getting the nourishment you need!
    Best wishes, and keep up the good work!  Smile
    I eat the frozen entrees from time to time, and I really like the 50 cal string cheese, but I haven't tried much else.
    After doing some label shopping, it seemed to me like WW was basically just selling their name.  There's some stuff out there that's surprisingly low cal if you look for it.  You mentioned bread.  I eat Nature's Own Whole Grain bread, and it's sugar free and only 50 calories for a nice normal-sized slice.  But yeah, the entrees are great if I'm exhausted, and I imagine the desserts are pretty tasty and effective at teaching portion control.
    Happy Labor Day!  (to Canadians as well Wink)
    It sounds like we're all facing temptations but managing to keep our heads in the game.  I'm glad you had such a good weekend, Lynners!  Sounds like you burned a lot of what you ate/drank.  Yum, BBQ and beer.
    Halizabeth and Nanette, y'all seriously make me want a piece of cake, haha!  Way to go you two, adding exercise to cover it or picking up yummy alternatives.  With or without the ice cream cake, I hope you enjoy the birthday celebrations this month, Nanette.
    Welcome, ocean girl, and way to go on your success so far!  Your goal of 20lbs by mid-December sounds entirely doable.  I've lost 15 since mid-June, and I'm hoping for a loss of 18 more by the end of the year.  We just have to stay dedicated and work hard!
    And... alas... THE MOVE IS OVER!  Finished!  Finito!  I feel like a great weight has been lifted.
    I don't know how it's possible to eat like I've eaten and maintain, but I was at 180 this morning.  My metabolism might have been lagging a bit.  I think the extreme hunger meant that I was on the edge of a loss, which I guess I've undone by eating more, but I feel much better now and ready to tackle the next few pounds.  Even though I've gone over on calories, I've been careful to log every bite and not eat out.  And I must have burned half of what I ate yesterday with all the scrubbing, mopping, moving, lifting, vacuuming, etc. - about 6 hours total.  Now if I can get through my approaching TOM without doing some serious damage to my boyfriend's tub of Cookies n Cream Ice Cream, I'll be doing good!
