I would be willing to bet that it's nothing but water weight. If you say you've been faithfully working out and counting your calories there should be no reason for you to have gained 3 pounds. How often are you weighing yourself and at what time of day? Regardless of the answers to this, I would recommend weighing yourself in the morning after using the restroom if possible, and maybe set one specific day a week to weigh in. That will give you some sort of consistency in your weigh-ins. Also, if you've been working out 6 days a week 2 times a day I would not hesitate to say that those 3 pounds might very well be muscle. Frustrating I know! But muscle should always be welcomed over fat :) Hang in there! If it's really getting to you try zig-zagging your calories and see if that helps at all. Good luck! |

Original Post by freakybunny: Wow that woman sounds like a real bitch. People like that are just insecure with themselves and use insults as a way to hide it. I was at a friend's party, not a bar..but I guess the environment was similar! Hah. I've been told that I'm intimidating, though I can't understand how. I'm very friendly and you really have to give me a reason to dislike you...meaning that this guy genuinely is ANNOYING. I did the only thing I knew to get the point across, and only after he insisted on asking. |

Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice. Especially to t5jules and marinehead--you guys gave me some really great insight. I've never had high self-esteem whatsoever, so to let a weight comment bring me down is totally within my personality. I hate it! But a trend that I'm seeing not only here, but coming from my friends and family is that I need to be more positive and focus on my good qualities rather than dwell on my imperfections. I've also had this problem for the majority of my life. So, not only will I continue to work on reaching my goal weights, but I will also work on loving who I am right now rather than loving only the thought of what I could be once I lose all the weight. All of you are great support and finding this website was such a blessing. Good luck on your weight loss journeys and if I can ever return the favor of advice, motivation or just support in general please don't hesitate to message me! |

| Weight Loss | Fat at 113, really? | Jan 15 2009 21:19 (UTC) |

Height: 5'9" SW: 246
GW: 150
I selected my goal weight because never in my life have I been completely happy with my body. I've always been about 20-25 pounds heavier than I wanted to be. When I shot up to 246 and an unhealthy BMI I knew it was time for a drastic change, and I knew that if I was going to make a change I should go all the way with it, not settle, but shoot for what I really wanted. 150 is a healthy weight and BMI for my height, and I know that when I reach this I will want to show off my body, not hide it. And I will be healthier. |

You gave me some support so I'm gonna do the same thing for you--don't worry about it!! We both know it's not actual fat it's just hard to get our minds to believe that :P I think part of my problem is I haven't been drinking as much water in the past week as I usually do so I'm probably dehydrated. And you said it yourself you know it's cause you're PMSing! Just try to focus on your weight going back down in a few days cause it will :) |

Normally I wouldn't be so uptight about it but I lose about 5 pounds each month so I'm supposed to be at 218 by Nov. 6th. To go from 219 and be ONE POUND away to fluctuating between 222 and 220 is just killing me especially knowing I have like a week left!
I will take GI-Jane's advice though and I'll update with results next Sunday! Hopefully they're what I want to see :/ |

| Motivation | Lost 17 pounds but can't see results! :( | Sep 04 2008 20:24 (UTC) |

Yeah when I first started I was told to measure myself and I did, but I haven't measured since and I can't find my first measurements! :( I was BARELY squeezing into a size 16 (I was most likely an 18 but I refused to buy a bigger pair of jeans because I felt like I would be allowing myself to get bigger. Needless to say that's when I started my diet :P. I can now almost comfortably fit into the size 16's but I still don't like the way jeans look on me cause my thighs are so big I feel like they look weird. So I've been wearing black slacks all summer in lieu of jeans. I'm trying so hard to remember what my starting measurements were. :( |

There have actually been studies that show that the "zig-zag" method as you call it can be quite effective :) I mix it up and sometimes I eat about 1800 calories a day and then the next day 1300. It seems to work so I continue to do it! |

Number 11 definitely hits home! I'd never had that problem before til like the last year. I went to Six Flags Spring break of this year and nearly suffocated myself to ride the Judge Roy Scream. Then to make things worse, when I went to push the bar down to release it so I could get out I almost couldn't because there was barely any room between the bar and my stomach! Argh!!! I never want to go through that again, ever! |

I never ever ever weigh myself while I'm on my period and I try not to right before. Water weight is a bitch! One thing I hate is the PMS cravings--that in itself makes me feel like a cow. But since I started my diet it seems like my weigh-in after my period always brings about a 1 pound loss--surprisingly! I know I'm about to start, cause I've been having the cheese and chocolate cravings all week! Let's keep our fingers crossed that the pattern that has developed follows through this month! |

Ihilani, Everyone has days that they cheat and they feel like they've ruined their whole diet by messing up one day, but it's not true!! If you have one of those days, just tell yourself you will be good tomorrow and continue on. "Starting over" just discourages you more! You can't think that one day of being a little bad erases those 10 that you worked hard at! I've had TONS of those days since I started my diet, but when I do, I just think to myself that I HAVE to stick to it the next day and maybe burn a few more calories than usual if I'm really feeling guilty about it. That's pretty much how the entire past week has been for me! I've gone over my points limit almost every day, choosing foods that aren't necessarily the best choices (I'm doing weight watchers)! I know most of it is because I'm about to start my period, so I don't let it get me down much, and I've burned about 2 times as many calories as I normally do every day this week so that I can feel a little better about it. Don't start over, keep going strong and appreciate the work you've already put into it! |

Original Post by agentkate: Kate that's exactly why hypnosis has been so successful for me! The difference between this time and all the other attempts is that I feel more comfortable with myself. Although I hate that I am overweight, I put some make up on, do my hair, and dress my best and most days I look in the mirror and think to myself "Damn, I look good," despite knowing that I am overweight. Hypnosis brings an entirely new mindset into the equation and boosts your confidence! Ultimately, you have to learn to accept yourself as you are before you can make any huge changes, otherwise your patience will run out soon. You always have to remember that you ARE working at it--even if you're not losing weight as fast as you'd like to, remember that you will get there! That in itself should be motivation :) |

Yes, I have done hypnosis twice (not two times altogether, 2 different time periods). The first time, I didn't follow through with the minimal expectations which was my shortcoming. I honestly think the attention from the weight loss got to my head last time so I reverted back to my old bad habits. I would definitely recommend hypnosis for weight loss. In order for it to work, however, you have to have an open mind; in other words, you can't say to yourself "this isn't going to work," or it won't. All that hypnosis accomplishes is opening up your subconscious to take in suggestions, like eating healthier, etc. and gives you a new positive mindset that makes it a lot easier to stay motivated. I know that my confidence has gone way up each time I've done it. I'm sure different hypnotists have different prices but if you need an idea, mine was about 600 dollars for 6 sessions, which is usually an ideal number of sessions. Remember, it doesn't work for everyone, but if you have an open mind you have a much better chance of it working for you :) Hope that helps! |

Well, not eating isn't the answer hun! It makes you retain water and slows your weight loss down. You should try asking your parents for a weekly grocery allowance or set aside a certain amount of money every week to go get some entrees that aren't fried..boca burgers and morningstar corndogs are delish! :] And they only have 100-150 calories in them. I'm assuming your school has veggies or some type of salad so if that's the case just heat yourself up a veggie burger (which tastes just like a hamburger in my opinion!) and grab a salad :D And if you do eat something you feel guilty about tell yourself that you have to work it off and workout for like at least 10 minutes or something. That way, if you don't want to workout then you will resist the food :) |

Well I'll definitely do it with you! The first time I saw the scale hit 200 I almost died cause I told myself I'd never get that big, then somehow I blew up to 246 and I'm trying to get myself healthy again. If you ever need some motivation let me know! :) |
